Long time watcher, first time commenting.
You probably could make a starter kit out of your old gear and have some kind of giveaway to people who love hiking but don't really have the budget to upgrade gear or even get a starter set up.. Especially now in today's economy. Just an idea, a good way for you to clean out and hook up a subscriber!
    Keep up the good work!

@@MegaMastiffman I just think a wole complete set of used but good equipment based on Dans experience and usage would be a really cool "fan" giveaway. I'm sure he has a twitter or IG he could promote via UA-cam and vice versa.. it would be a win win for everyone and especially one lucky hiker!

If you lets say have two identical gas canister, one is empty and one is full. Then you put the empty one in a bucket of water at home and measure it (standing straight up) and mark it at the waterline. Then you mark the full one at the same place, that way you’re able to see how much gas you have left off the new one at any time when you’re out hiking. Presume you’re near water of course. That’ll tells you if you have a nought gas for dinner or only boiling water for a Mountain House bag! Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴

Just discovered your channel about a week ago. I love it. Your grandpa's lighter got me. My grandfather also died about 9 month before I was born and the only things of his I have are an old "U.S." Army pin and one of his Zippo lighters with his name and address eched into it. Thanks for all the great tips and gear recommendations.

I started storing my gear like this but realized I was rummaging through the same old stuff looking for the same items I took the last trip. So I now just store everything out of my pack in one tote and everything from my wife’s pack in another tote. All of the old gear is stored together in a large tote. Cut the area in half that my gear was taking up. Your gear closet looks great Dan, thanks for the video.

Minus the camera stuff, I have the same basic drawers and labels. I used to use the laundry bags for my quilts, but now I use those cheap collapsible cloth laundy bins. The individual bags just take too much space. I also clip their stuff sacks on the hanging loop or cinch cord so they stay with the bag/quilt. I use those hooks you have your packs on to hang up and air out the down after trips before it goes back in the laundry bins for storage. Great video!

Top tip for gas transplants. Is put the canister you want to “empty” in the freezer so it turns to liquid. Then when you marry the two canisters via the transplant tool have the cold canister on top and the liquid will run into the lower canister. If you don’t do this they are pressurised and equalise at 50% ish. It’s safe and effective to transplant fuel.

THank you for the video, Dan.
It really helps to have ideas on how to organize gear.
I just started watching your channel and I see you got some hikes up to 3 days, but I would like to now if you use to stay longer than that.
I would also like ot know how you pack all camping and camera gear in these situations. It would be a nice video to watch :-)
I have camped in easier sitautions, up to 3 days, but I'm looking forward to really hiking and camping for longer an be able to take some landscape pictures. These would be longer hikes and probably around 3-6 days. But I'm having a really hard time to figure out how to pack camera and camping gear. Also looking for a better backpack. This hyperlite you've been talking about seems to match quite well.

It's hilarious the questions on THE BINS THE BINS THE DRAWERS?? They're just bins....from wherever. You mean they're not special issue "YT influencer bins"? Actually, the first video I watched of yours Dan was the first video you did on your storage. I had been struggling with that for a bit...knew I had "some good gear" but not where I could find it very quickly. I used some bins I had...bought some more...and even labeled them. Now I'm organized. Congrats on your "meteoric rise"....but your content is spot on. Thx!!

Have you checked out REI's gear trade-in yet? If any of your gear was sold by them in last 7 years or so and it's in decent condition, they'll buy it back. You just have to pay $6 for the shipping and they'll send you a nice gift card. It's a lot easier than selling gear in my opinion.

Great video, thanks for sharing your gear. I am curious about backpacks. I have watched several videos of peeps recommending their favs, researched and worn a few. I've yet to find 'the one'. My last pack (osprey) I tried to use on a 1000km trek in Japan ended up being returned. In your opinion what is a great women's pack? I live in Eastern Canada and our products here are not nearly as available or have the quality that you are able to access in the US. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated. Cheers

    • @DanBecker
      @DanBecker  Рік тому

Pretty simple actually… Just put the empty can on the side that has the empty looking circle marking and the full can on the other side. Just make sure that the can you are filling Has been put in the freezer for about 10 minutes to make sure that the gas transfers easier. The button on the side of it just releases a little pressure if you need it.

Fortunate to have an oversized pantry. One side is household food and supplies - opposite side is all backing gear. From the Dollar Tree I bought those fabric/cardboard cubes - buck a piece. Each is labeled such as water supplies, cook stuff, rain gear, gloves/mittens, foot Gear, hats, storage bags, bandanas/towels, first aid supplies, maps. Etc. keeps stuff neat, organized and at least thrown into a container with similar items.

I understand that such a shocking idea could be akin to enduring the physical pain and psychological injury of pureeing your Johnson in the blender , but we can give you a few days grace in which to adjust before you start working on a video of it, but you can leave out the blender footage.

I have seen you geek out on gear before. But there were moments in this video where you geeked out and I felt like you totally forgot you were doing a video.

That is a serious, bordering on ridiculous amount of gear, Dan. Must take you a week to plan, find and load gear for a trip. Nice problem to have I guess.
