When I first started doing my hair in vintage styles I couldn't roll a victory roll for toffee. It was VERY frustrating because the V roll is so intrinsic to many vintage hair dos. As with many things I learnt that there is not just one way to roll but a whole plethora of ways to get your hair into a way that looks pretty much authentic.
Still today, after many years of doing my hair this way I sometimes cant get it right the first time and need to employ a different technique to get the look that I want. I've worked out that I usually roll 1 of 6 different ways and I have filmed them today for you just in case you haven't seen some of them before.
Hair isn't the most important thing in the world but, sometimes knowing you have a super cool 'do' can make you smile and that can only be a good thing right?
Welcome to Vintagious, here, in my own litttle corner of UA-cam I will show you how to create beautiful hairstyles from all eras. Sure, my main focus is on simple vintage hairstyling but I also love easy modern styles.
I don't have a favourite era, it changes all the time. One day it'll be Edwardian hairstyles that I'm all over, the next, pinup girl hair, the next I'll be all about Greek Goddesses and their crazy Barnets! I just love it all!
I do hope that you enjoy my videos and that you can learn something from them, even just a tiny bit - and even if you learn nothing I hope that they make you smile.

I was watching you yesterday and I found that if you use a cool curl iron, victory rolls are so easy. if you have layers you can do it with damp hair or with style products. my hair tends to stick to my fingers when I try to roll by hand. the barrel of the iron will influence the size of your rolls. hope this is helpful to others

Thank you so SO much for this video! I've wanted victory rolls since I was a little girl, but I've never been able to get them looking anything like a swirl.
Your techniques have made them very 'do-able,' and not absolutely terrifying. I'm glad that you gave a few options because I just could NOT get the loop and tuck to work for me, and that seems to be the popular way.
Once again, thank you again for this very easy to understand, helpful video.

My hair is extremely curly and frizzy and all I can seem to do with it is stick curl creme in it and let it get on with it. I hate my hair :(

    • @chloe--1374
      @chloe--1374 7 років тому +15

You can maybe take your hair the further you can reach, roll what's left around your finger then you pull the hair around your finger in one curl
Then roll all the way to your head as it's shown in the video
You might want to use only one finger when you roll it around, or it might turn into a really big roll
Sorry if it's not really clear, it's a bit hard to describe

My grandmother told me she used to use the small V8 or pineapple juice cans to create hers. I bought some to try it out this weekend before finding your video, might have to try both out this weekend! ~Maggie

I have lots of 1930's 40's Ideal Deanna Durbin and Judy Garland dolls and when I have a new doll I always ensure that the hair is washed and styled into the Victory roll hair style if I have a larger doll (25") I will use my fingers or a small barrel hot iron if it is a smaller doll (14"-18") I use a pencil to style my rolls :) great video :)

I'll bet there are ladies out there still, that can show us how they did it...after all, they did it every day...you know, they had to have some tricks that we haven't thought of, in order to achieve those victory rolls. I'm glad you did this and recorded it and put it on YT though...I was just thinking, while watching you, about those ladies that are still alive from that era!!😊

    • @FitfullyVintage

Yes, I wonder if they would think, ‘what’s she doing? She’s doing it all wrong!’ I asked a relative who totally rolled her hair in the 40’s but she was a bit coy about it all.

@@FitfullyVintage You would think, they would be happy to show us how they did it...such a shame not to share knowledge...I am old...70 lol and I wasn't born until the late 40's, but I do get curious how things were a long time ago...even before I was thought of...lol Thanks gf!!😊💖👗👡

That last one was amazing, I'm dressing up as a zombie pin up girl so I want to try this one. I've got slightly Afro hair because I'm mixed raced so I'm interested to see how this works for me.
