  • Within the shared fantasy, the narcissist assigns to you the role of a victim. But he sets you up for failure because he needs to devalue you, allowing him to separate-individuate from you as a maternal figure.

    This video is a masterpiece. A newer, deeper dive on shared fantasy that hit the nail on the head. A beautiful description of the confusion and haunted no-win world.

    Professor, I watch a lot of UA-cam videos, but yours are ALWAYS my first choice. I listen to learn, to laugh, to have a-ha moments, and please don't take it the wrong way, but even when I want to fall asleep. A voice like no other! Don't you ever stop making these videos, please!

    Voice as powerful anxiolytic and video talk as a master piece! It's been a routine to fall a sleep with video of yours like all the others that mentioned it!
    There was a special compulsion to push with the role change (he often said due to fear of stagnancy) which often brought narcissistic rage out at full proportion when a role wasn't satisfactory.
    At a point upon decline to follow rigid rule agenda on the rolls, the narcissist feared me terribly by saying "you are not safe to be around. You are extremely dangerous". Now I understand better, he felt abandoned by my separateness and independence, and the most of it very disturbed "he can't take me out of balance". Thank you Prof. Sam Vaknin explaining this to me, it brought a lot of release why the fear.
    I'm reading on Identity Status Theory by Marcia now...
    The ending of the talk with Exemplar theory is ingenious... You are a goldmine!

    Children of the GDR were given to the nursery by their mother after 6 weeks and were there for over 9 hours, including Saturday. Could this be a reason for a pronounced narcissism? Children were almost not breastfed.

      Children in Israeli kibbutzim had access to their parents only over the weekend and they grew up to be the most mentally healthy cohort in the population.

    Is this possible that a partner is such good a supply(giving, giving giving) that narcissism only comes out when child is born and narcissist behaves narcissisticly mainly in relation to the child?

    • @samvaknin
      @samvaknin  Рік тому +1

      Yes. But that is not the same as NPD.

    Is parentification a form of role confusion? And will a narcissistic parent punish the child for taking on the role of the parent? Even if s/he behaves like the child instead of a parent, thus forcing the 'real' child into the parental role?

    • @samvaknin
      @samvaknin  Рік тому +5

      Yes and no. The child will be punished if it REFUSES to be adultified and parentified.

      @@samvaknin ah, yes. I think I get it. The n. parent has no trouble with the role confusion because it is his/her doing. So the child can be both parent and child, or is even expected to act both roles because it serves the need of the n. parent. It is only when the child steps away that they get angry. Do I understand it correctly?
