- the real ending to the evil dead 3. i prefer this ending because it stayed true to the evil dead series; which was dark and gritty. the other ending was a big fucken joke.

i love how each new Evil dead installment contradicts the one ending before it 😂
Yeah even ash vs evil dead kinda has that
Its because of rights and titles cuz evil dead 1 and 2 they werent allowed to use footage from part 1 so they had to basically sum it up and continue on and then the same thing for evil dead 2 to army of darkness
It took me three years to actually find this movie, watched it 10 years ago when i was 10 yo, didn't know the name so i searched "Man sleep to end of world movie". My life's side quest is now complete.
Same
same here
So do I
Same lol
Bless ya pal. I grew up with the first two and entered my 40’s with ‘Ash v/s Evil Dead. I hear they’re making Evil Dead 4 now.
If this ending becomes canon, the evil dead franchise wouldve been from horror, to comedy, to fantasy, and into a time travelling franchise like back to the future
Well kinda true the ending of the show also shows ash arriving tot he future with the dead ides still strong and going so it always must've being a plan to bring some futuristic shit to it
According to Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, the original ending was supposed to set up "Evil Dead IV: Ash vs. The Machines" which featured Ash facing off against... Robot Deadites!?! Which could've had a Mad Max and Terminator vibe and I would've loved to see what that could've looked like.
If this becomes canon? It is canon. When this movie released first the ending was this scene. The producers got the director to shoot another scene, the S-mart ending. That was several months after the original. They took the dystopian ending personally & tried to remove the cliffhanger leading to Evil dead 4.
We have to remember that Evil dead 2 already introduced the time wormhole so it's already that time travel is canon & it is nothing like BTTF or Terminator. No De Lorean or teleporting through technology like in terminator. Evil Dead was about evil spells & the conjuring that sent Ash Williams to the past.
Same as me i was searching for this film for 2years
It’s technically now that ending with the ending of Ash Vs Evil Dead found him in the future.
4:15 the moment you wake up and realize that you had to go to work 2 hours ago but you’re still at home on your bed...
I've always thought they should make this a random encounter in a fallout game
Oh my God, how has no-one ever thought of that? 😆 That would be awesome finding this ragged, half-mad knight wandering the Wasteland with a chainsaw and shotgun. Have him call the player "Screwhead" and make paranoid rambles about monsters he's encountered.
I swear I remember it being an encounter in Fallout 2. Although now that Bethesda owns Fallout I doubt it’ll ever happen.
@@ammazer1229 I remember there is a time travel encounter where you go to before the first game and end up breaking the Vault's water chip, causing the events of the whole series in the first place
i told my friends about this movie ending and they had no idea what I was talking about. i don't even remember the plot, just this ending. took us way too long to finally find this... thought it was all a fever dream and I was just losing my mind

OH, GOD!! NO!! NOO!! I'VE SLEPT TOO LONNNGGG!!!!
I remember watching this on TV when I was like 12 years old... This was the ending they showed and I believed was always canon. It just blew my mind when I watched the movie again, several years later, and found Ash getting back on the present telling someone the whole story on the hardware store...
real ending and much better!
The trilogy is the best series i ever watched. Cant believe a horror can turn into medieval war. Sam Reimi is a freaking gifted
I like how he took 7 drops in stead of 6
So he woke up in 2092 instead of 1992.
Yep, each drop was a century so he overslept another 100 years into 2092. That would've been a catastrophic apocalyptic movie to watch. Deadites in the future. 😱
Caught that as well.. oh, Ash! 🤣
i knew it when i was a kid i complain why he took 1 extra drop
@@DEFC0NZER01982*
I wish they could’ve somehow incorporated both endings in some weird way because I love them both
They actually could because of the show you remember when ash goes back in time to the cabin on ash vs evil dead before his younger version gets to the cabin so technically that's a different timeline now what if those 2 could actually meet up in the future while original ash drinks the potion and wakes up in the right time what if the other ash from the other timeline also had to go through all the things the original ash did but instead of drinking the potion 6 drops he messed up and took 7 like on this video that would mean that at the end of ash vs evil dead when he wakes up in the future the other ash is waking up now as well
According to Bruce Campbell if you guys watch the making of army of darkness on the new special edition, if this ending would've been chosen then the idea for Evil Dead 4 would be ash stuck in apocalyptic London building a army of robots from scraps and metal to fight against the deadites and maybe find the book of the dead again to back to his time. Ash could find the necranomicon again, open vortex from evil dead 2 and go back to his time.
Army of darkness forever comics told this
I remember this ending makes me sad when I was child :c
Same as well here !
Same energy
This ending was absolutely hilarious. I laughed so hard when I first saw it. 😂
Same. 🤣 So awesome, yet so utterly cruel. Poor bumbling Ash.
4:15 when it’s a Monday and you have school but you forgot to set your alarm
In all honesty, I'm very conflicted about this ending. On the one hand, it's COMPLETELY in character for Ash to accidentally awake late in the future after civilization has crumbled. Plus, it was supposed to set up a sequel titled "Evil Dead IV: Ash vs. The Machines" which would've shown him facing off an army of... Robot Deadites!?! It definitely would've definitely have a Mad Max and Terminator vibe and I would've loved to see what that could've looked like. But the ending they used Theatrically has some excellent lines like "Come get some." and "Hail to the King, baby." adds a really nice bow to the movie versus the downbeat original ending. Also, it more importantly allowed the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comics and Ash vs. Evil Dead series to happen.
(Huh... Funny how that show's ending has the same idea. Only iF STARS HADN'T FUCKING CANCELLED IT!!!!!!!!! 💢)
I think the comic is not canon, but i definitely prefer the theatrical ending because Ash vs. Evil Dead is amazing
This ending fits the Evil Dead movies but doesn't fit Army of Darkness the third movie is super lighthearted and goofy and not a horror movie at all so this ending feels out of place in the movie itself.
@boomstickcritique902 the original movie was goofy that only happened becuz raimi was trying to make it pg-13 so it can be in theaters but still gave it an R rating somehow you can read the original screenplay comic only(also ik this comment is old lol)
I cant believe i never saw this ending

Hello 1960s Batcave!
It's amazing how many people, like me, remember nothing but the ending from watching as a kid, and then try to find what movie it is on the internet when they are grown.
It's been five years since I first described the ending on reddit and no one gave me an answer then, today I search again and saw a post of someone asked the exact same question a year ago and got the answer.
As the top comment says, this side quest is marked complete.
I guess this is what a good ending does, you always remember it.
I like this alternate ending but it gives me the same kinda vibe as the Evil Dead 2 ending.
I never seen this ending before... I'm glad they change it.
I like how most of us here remember this ending for the movie when we were kids. Like most of us has seen the movie and this ending but never knew what the movie was until now.
What I would give for a comic book or video game or something imagining his next adventure in that world.
Army of Darkness Forever comic coming soon from Dynamite Entertainment. Funny enough this is the ending of the comic book adaptation of this film that was published in 1993 I think.
@cadmus8028 Interestingly, it sounds like the story is going to reconcile both endings as canon to itself. Ash sleeps to 2093, travels back to 1300, has a completely different adventure, then takes the juice and speaks the words as in the theatrical ending, ending up in 1993. That's my theory on it anyway. The 2093 stuff sounds the most fun.
I've read that Sam Raimi's original idea was to follow up this ending with a sequel set in the post-apocalyptic future where Ash has to command a robot army against the deadites. It would have been awesome! Too sad Army of Dakrness wasn't a hit.
That's not true I heard that idea might come back to life one day hell probably next year
I thought army of darkness made even more money than the first two?
Army of darkness forever
This is the ultimate fever dream ending. Everyone argued about it.
Man, he's gonna have a stiff neck when he wakes up!!
This ending is so much better
Saw thus film as a kid even in Russian and German, as a 25 years old now it's still one of the best movies ever
Someone noticed ? Ash had taken 7 drops instead of 6 drops.
I just noticed, too
Hence why he slept too long
duh
Ash be like: 1 2 3 4 5 ... 5 6
My guy wasnt good in Math
Thats the reason he woke up to the end of civilization
This ending is cool if they made a sequel following this ending, but the theatrical ending is cool, because I like how he’s back at S mart just price tagging items and back to his mundane life. Then the deadite comes back and he shooter her with the lever action rifle. Then takes off the uniform to show the ash uniform underneath…..in my own way, I am king….hail to the king baby.

There is also the end of season 3 in ash vs evil dead where ash fucks up the future
Pessimist
SPOILER FOR ASH BE EVIL DEAD
At the end of the series, ASH wakes up to the world thats a barren wasteland an drives of in his modded out car with a cyborg (or robot) chick.
So, IN THE EEEEEND, IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER!!!
I’m only now finding out what I originally watched wasn’t the theatrical ending. I couldn’t understand how Ash went from this to Ash vs Evil Dead. Makes so much more sense now that I’ve seen both endings.
As a melancholic Scandinavian, I very much prefer this ending.
There's no reason both endings cant be real. Ash could've had another off screen adventure in the future then travels back via another portal, sometime prior to the store ending.
thats true, except in the store ending ash says he came back by saying the words and what not. wouldnt fit perfect but its a good idea
@@williamschaeffer409 hey, the Evil Dead movies aren’t known for their outstanding continuity or anything.
@@williamschaeffer409you could always imagine he said the words to open the portal in this offscreen adventure to open a rift in time and space back to 1982, or better yet just make it so you imagine he says the words once he swallows the juice
This is the one I saw on cable TV, here in India

"I am a stranger here myself" (Ellen Ripley, Alien Resurrection ending).

Wait, thats actually good. He can find the future humans and give them what he knows.
Post apocalyptic Ash hunting deadites woud've been cool as fuck what the hell
I preferred this ending. Its stayed true to the dark comedy theme of the movie.
Probably would’ve led to a cool Mad Max style sequel too. Ah well, at least we got 3 years of the TV series.
@@rockoperajon Yes. I was thinking like a Warhammer 40,000 universe or some steampunk/atompunk theme with comedic elements of course.
@@rockoperajon According to Sam Raimi, the idea was to set up a sequel titled "Evil Dead IV: Ash vs. The Machines" which would've had Ash face off against Robot-Deadites.

No Ash…Looks like you slept through 2020…count yourself lucky…
?? just you cant go out it looks like 2020? ok Debbie Downer
I never knew this ending existed!
It took me 17 years to find this movie
This ending would have indicated that Evil Dead 4 was originally going to be an Post-Apocalyptic setting which is what they've originally planned before the executive meddling that complicated things further. Hence the "Ash vs the Evil Dead" series is a continuation of the theatrical ending that eventually lead to it's originally intended Post-Apocalyptic ending as a 'work around' sort to speak.
...onLY IF STARS HADN'T FUCKING CANCELLED IT!!!! 💢
The thing is, the wiseman knows Ash is not that bright and could have given him right away a proper 6 drops potion dose. Nice craft Mr Pitt 😅
Wasn't there plans for a sequel based on this ending?
I heard there was, and it was going to have Ash building an army of robots to fight the deadites. :o
Ash vs Evil Dead Series ending spoilers
I guess this ending kinda of syncs up with the series ending.

Comics called army of darkness forever explain this
I watched this before 7years ago in Dvd now I had complete evil dead movie collection Dvd in my room
This is the only ending I knew. This was shown in cable TV here in latin america.
I'm always amused by the uglyness of the city, especially the red building on the right.
I have all this movies on Blu-ray... Awesome.. Bruce
This was the ending i saw on tv
I hope that Sam raimi and Bruce Campbell do a 4th movie of the Evil Dead franchise with post apocalyptic theme where the deadites rule this future timeline. The TV series continued with Ash returned from his work as S Mart shop employee.
Have you seen the show untill the end? Because that's what happens.
Something tells me you haven't seen the show's final episode...
@@brandonspain12345 dude I've watched the movie army of darkness several times and there are two different endings, the post apocalyptic one and the otber Ash has returned from his job as an S mart employee where he encountered a deadite in the store one last time. The TV series Ash vs Evil Dead continued where Ash was working in the smart and not the post apocalyptic one.
@@anthonythemaster4609that’s not the point, the point is ash goes To this future as the final episode.
I slept too long
“Original ending” This is the bad ending, the alternate ending is the good ending. If it weren’t for that, we wouldn’t have gotten Ash vs Evil Dead
No joke, when the executives saw this ending, they said, "Oh hell no!" And made Sam Raimi do the other ending instead.
While yes this ending stayed true to the evil dead series it didn't have any of the iconic lines that we got in the final cut like "Lady I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the store"
Would've been hilarious to hear it addressed in another film about how he double counted 5 making himself take 7 drops adding another 100 years to his trip
Honestly, I would’ve preferred if the movies ended here with a trilogy rather than a fourth or possible fifth.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure a 4th movie would no doubt be entertaining as hell, but AoD was already such a departure from the first two that to keep going, it’s going to be weird.
If a fourth were ever made, it would be rather ridiculous looking back at previous movies. The series would’ve gone from Ash reading an evil book in a remote cabin to clashing swords with undead knights in medieval Europe to presumably fighting cyborg deadites with laser guns in a mad max-esque world.
Would it be a great watch? No question. However, to have a series go from campy horror to medieval fantasy to post apocalypse is probably too much, especially when the tone of this ending clashes with the tone of the rest of the movie.
That being said, I still love this movie and both endings.
dude, the tv series exists. And it is a direct continuation of the third film.
Actually.. It Would ve great to watch a 4 film about a post-apocalyptic "era". Specially in these "tones" and "photography"... Are not the best apocalyptic movies from the 80s or the 70s? I have not watch the TV serie do.
@@raulmontanez3528 the way the final season ended looks like it was gonna be post apocalyptic but i guess we will never know. I dunno i feel like i got what i wanted out of the series but i would definitely love to watch more
He accidentally drank 7 drops
Ripley from Alien Resurrection has joined the chat
being a young child, i remember seeing this ending on vcr tape but i also remember the supermarket ending. idk. weird.
You know of my calculations of 7 drops is correct than that means he woke up 2093 instead of 1993
I think the S-Mart ending is cool and, well… “Groovy” because that way it leads up to the game: “Evil Dead: Hail to The King”.
How the fuck did Ash vs Evil dead happened if he was stuck in the future?
The Contradictions in all the evil dead movies feels like there's Different Ash's from different Dimensions with there own unique stories and endings
The Evil Dead: Ash Dies in the end and the Evil resides in the world
Evil Dead 2: Ash Portals into the old times, and in the first scene, instead of enslaving Ash, they Accept him as his hero and the story continues as usual
Army of Darkness ending 1 : Ash goes back into his own time and continues saving people from evil
Army of Darkness ending 2 : Ash goes into the future and discovers new technology and the dedites are ruling the world

4:10 you're welcome Folks
I remember renting this movie and waited for my friends reaction instead we got crappy cop-out second version and was completely stumped by it.
The atmosphere of the scene where he's in his car sleeping is different from the rest of the movie because it's very creepy and strange. Thinking about a man sleeping for centuries, watching the different shots going very fast from the right to the left, with the sun endlessly rising and setting, the lighting of the car inside a bolted shut cave so he would not be seen, and hearing the strange mysterious and ominous music make this part very eerie.
4:09 his face is funny btw
It's a shocking and downer ending. But, the poor guy has been through enough and I feel like he deserves a break at least
Poor Ash can’t catch a break lol.
thank you myke

FFS, I just want an Army of Darkness 2 that continues from this ending instead of Ash vs Evil dead.
Mu gosh, the last time I saw this part of the movie was way back 1990's not sure what exact year, but this is the ending I knew as a kid, not that grocery store scene.
i prefer the theatrical ending, this was least satisfying but would have opened up a whole another movie
but the tv series ignored this ending so does this mean this endign was cannon?
evil dead canon is fucky
the s-mart ending is the canon one
The s mart ending is Canon, Universal Studios replaced the smart 3nding because its cheesy and replaced this alternative ending to make it more interesting and also stays true to the Ash character that he messed up everything one after another. This ending is seen only on DVD release
@@anthonythemaster4609 I may have misread but universal changed the ending TO the s-mart ending. They didn’t like this ending because they thought it was too sad or whatever.
@@Herofromthesky yep, plus it was a cliffhanger, they hated that its leading to Evil Dead 4 or Army of Darkness 2. Now another sequel would've been interesting af. The execs of that time sucked

I liked the other one better to be honest. And it's the canon one now, although that doesn't really matter because afaik, the whole movie got retconned.
@godzillarex888 Well, specifically he flashed back to the end of Evil Dead 2. The actual events in Army of Darkness were ignored as the creators of the show didn't have the rights to use anything from AoD.

I know it's a year old post, I hope you're doing fine brother.
How come they dont have rights to use it while some episodes was directed by Sam Raimi himself? I haven't watched the show yet but a super fan of the movie. Is the show good or just a cash grab? Thank you bro
@@CrucisJon I had a lot of fun watching the show. It leans much more on The Evil Dead in the first season or so but has flashes of AoD style humor.
As for the rights to AoD: As I recall it comes down to how the movie was financed. AoD had at least two companies other than Raimi's own involved and they'd all have interests in obtaining financial compensation from the show if anything in AoD was directly referenced. Which, thanks to the movie being largely set in the past, is easy to ignore without really losing much potential from the show.
@@CrucisJon They ended up mentioning him going back in past in season 2 of ash vs evil dead or 3 i forgot but they ended up getting rights to mention it or something so it is now canon of him going back to army of darkness.
