I'm so glad you watched the original 1992 theatrical version of Army of Darkness with the theatrical ending. The Director's Cut contains the original ending that was seen in the European release. The original cliffhanger ending with Ash ending up in a post-apocalyptic world would only have worked if Sam Raimi had the chance to make a fourth Evil Dead movie, but Raimi and the studio wisely decided on the newer ending that provided closure knowing that the possibility of a fourth movie was uncertain, and they were proven correct. Plus, the Ash vs. Evil Dead series picks up where the theatrical version leaves off.
When I saw this as a kid, it had a different ending, where instead of reciting the words, he had to take 7 drops of a potion to sleep a century each, but got distracted and counted 6 twice, waking up further in the future to a world in ruins. It took 20 years, not until I got a DVD release where that alternative ending was included as an extra, that I saw it again. The whole time, not a single person believed me that I saw that ending :P

One thing I love about the Evil Dead series is that there's one for every mood. Straight-up horror, comedy-horror, horror-action-comedy, with the hero played slightly different ways. It's genius. I think II might be my favourite by a slim margin.
11:45 "wow, did he just seriously make himself a robotic arm?! that is,..." "Groovy" 😂i remember when i was a teen, i kept going into this shop by my house, and seeing the VHS version of this on the shelf, after the 3rd time or so i finally bought it,... and have been hooked ever since! i had voice mods for my games of Ash, and really enjoyed Ash Vs. Evil Dead the series! it's nice to see someone else starting their journey for the 1st time as well! 👍
The whole eyeball on the shoulder growing into a separate person is an homage to the 1959 horror film "The Manster" which took this wacky idea seriously.
You have such a great, and contagious laugh! That was a lot of fun. When I was in the Air Force in the 90's this movie was a staple of entertainment while we were deployed in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Never really got tired of it.
Army of Darkness has been my fav of the Evil Dead movies for soooo long. Campbell kills it with the absurd humor. He totally made the movie. Always enjoy his work, he's just so entertaining.
2:04 It was also lots more bloodier, but this movies goes more for a goofy, slapstick feel than horror. 23:34 Of course it's stop-motion. And if you want more of that, you can check out pretty much anything from Ray Harryhausen, especially Jason and the Argonauts for some spooky skeletons like these. 29:23 Indeed, but combined with live footage of Bruce Campbell shadow-fighting. Again, stuff Ray Harryhausen was all about.
You will absolutely love Ash vs Evil Dead, it's the ultimate mix of everything that was great in the movies, just condensed and intensified, has all the gore of the first 2 with all the sassy dialog, humor and Ash being Ash that the 3rd film had. Speaking of Bruce Campbell, if you get the chance, watch Jack of All Trades and The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. both series are a ton of fun with great ensemble casts and some epic guests along the way. For the more serious side but still plenty of jokes and fun, also have to recommend Burn Notice, a spy, drama series he co-stars in that was very well done and also has a great cast. And lastly, 2 other films with Bruce you have to watch at some point, Bubba Ho-Tep where he stars alongside the late great Ossie Davis, in a film that defies explanation and the incredibly meta, My Name is Bruce, which is full of Evil Dead references and perfect for every fan of the franchise.
31:24 - That's Ted Raimi, Sam's little brother. He's in most of Sam's films. He played the possessed Henrietta in Evil Dead 2 and he played J. Jonah Jameson's assistant in the first 3 Spider-man films. He also had a recurring role as Joxer in the Sam Raimi produced show Xena Warrior Princess.
That guy Ash was talking to, the one you commented on, was played by Ted Raimi, brother and regular supporting actor in Sam Raimi's movies. The car is also in pretty much every movie Sam Raimi makes. I'm KINDA disappointed it didn't have the original ending, though. The one where Ash drinks one drop too many of the liquid and wakes up a century too late.
I havent seen this movie in ages, but now that I rewatched it here it is interesting to see that the guy in this scene 31:08 played Joxer the Mighty from Xena Warrior Princess along with Bruce Campbell who played the Thief Autolycus.
I remember watching this in the theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The whole crowd cheered when the boomstick part was said. Also do you recognize the main actress in this? Her very next movie was Schindler's List. Yep that's her!
Loved your reactions to this fun movie, Laurenn. I understand why they chose this ending for the film, ( in case of a movie sequel / tv show sequel ) but my favourite part from Army Of Darkness is the alternate ending! :)
The memories, I was in middle school when this came out, love it, saw in the theater, still quote it today, gimme some sugar baby. it been 30 years and it never get old. Timeless and will never go out if style. great reaction Lauren as always
I really enjoyed your reaction! Bruce "The Chin" Campbell is a lot like Ash in real life. When I met him at ComicCon he acted like an a*hole then started joking with the fans. It was like he was always in character. Army of Darkness has a totally different tone from the other movies which just shows Sam Raimi's brilliance. Other people probably already recommended Ash Vs The Evil Dead. I second that motion.
31:24 that is Sam Raimi, him and his brother Ted Raimi created the evil dead, and all the films. i have a trilogy of this film, all the versions included are the Theatrical release, the International cut, and the Director's cut. there are different endings for each.
The guy you thought was playing a knight as well were one of the Raimis. Sam and his brothers Ted and Ivan were all involved in the movie, including cameos.
So fun fact about the Evil Dead Trilogy. A different studio made each movie, so that's why scenes like him cutting off his hand was in a different room because they couldn't use footage from any of the other movies so they had to reshoot anything they wanted to reuse.
That Dude he is talking to in the store and who played one of the villagers is Ted Raimi, director Sam Raimi's brother. Watch any Sam Raimi film and Ted is in it somewhere, often playing multiple characters.
Sam Rami was such a huge part of my childhood man; this, Hercules, Xena, and the Spider-Man movies. So much of what I find funny and cool directly comes from that dude.
I’ve seen this movie hundreds of times, it’s great. I’ve met Bruce Campbell three times now, the last time jus a year or so ago, he’s been a really cool dude each time. Glad you enjoyed the movie, it’s a cult classic. My friends and I would always quote the one liners, they never get old! I love that the skeletons sound like regular dudes getting hit, as the fall apart, and being scared there’s just something just so comical about it
There is an alternate ending that you need to see. Also, the words Ash was supposed to say over the book--"Klaatu barada nikto" are from the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still," what the alien Klaatu told Patricia Neal's character to say to the robot Gort. And the actor you recognized at the end is Ted Raimi, brother of the director of the movie, Sam Raimi.
With every show you upload, I love you more and more! I LOVE this movie! The words Ash has to say to go back may sound familiar if you've seen the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still." I thought Sam Raimi wouldn't be able to top this movie until I saw, "Drag Me To Hell." (A must watch!) Thanks for brightening my day! Best to you, LoveLaurenn!
9:11 Ackchyually, it's an IGA/Stoeger Coach Gun. 12-gauge, double-barrel, side-by-side, hammerless boxlock, vent rib. 20" barrels, bead sight, blue finish, hardwood stock, double triggers, double extractors. 9:13 Ackchyually, it's a budget-priced gun as far as double-barrels go. Top of the line would be something like a Remington Peerless. And that's if we're sticking with double-barrels. 9:18 Ackchyually, it was made in Brazil by IGA and imported by Stoeger. 11:45 "This man is an engineering genius! Why is he working at S-Mart?!" ~Rich Evans 26:30 Why do you suppose he said "21st" instead of "20th?" I think it's canon that the events of the first two movies take place in 1982, plus AoD came out in 1992, so in either case, it's still the 20th century. 31:25 "Hey, kids! It's TED Raimi!" (applause) He played the Henrietta Deadite in ED2. 32:47 (standoffish)
The 1997 DOS game Blood has several references to the Evil Dead movies. At the start of the game, your character says "I live... Again." At the end of the fourth normal episode, he says "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun." A common nuisance enemy in the game is a disembodied hand that says "I'll swallow your soul!" And there are mirrors in some levels, that if broken, will unleash a bunch of mini-versions of your character.
One of my fav movies as a kid. Bought my dad the shirt! Bruce is still adorable! I loved him Xena Warrior Princess as the "Kind of Thieves🖤" Just as from the sequel to this movie, I love that the director Sam Raimi's brother is in it whom I LOVE and plays Joxer in Xena as well *.* So hilarious!!
I saw this before the any evil dead movie and I like the larger scale feel and more comedic elements. Bruce Campbell is always throwing out iconic cheesy one-liners. Hail to the King Laurenn!
Come for the reaction stay because your cackling laugh is both cute and contagious! Army of Darkness is one of my fave Raimi movies and i'm glad you enjoyed it that much
You can tell this movie was the seed for the TV-shows Hercules and Xena. Fun trivia: Originally they were gonna film Ash and the car landing in the past again, but the crane fell over (it was placed on the side of the quarry they were shooting in) so they just used the old footage instead
The 90's Hercules series was once apart of a random rotation of sci-fi or fantasy shows. It was called "Action Pack" and one of the series was Hercules. It eventually got it's own separate series once it became popular. There were a few other series that never made it though. Xena is just a spin-off of Hercules. I don't really think there is any inspiration from Army of Darkness, just similarities that most stuff in the 90's had.
@@My-Name-Isnt-Important Bruce mentions it in the book If Chins Could Kill. Sam and Rob took the idea of Ashs talking modern and stuff, then just toned it down for when they made Hercules (and subsequently Xena)
@@mikeman2862 Sam Raimi wasn't involved in the creation or writing of Hercules. Ted Raimi was in a few episodes and even Bruce Campbell was too, but Christian Williams was the creator of the series. Also, the style or idea of Colloquial speech in a pre-modern setting wasn't original to Army of Darkness. In your original comment, which you've now edited since my first comment, you said; 'You can tell this movie was the seed for the TV-shows Hercules and Xena.' Are you sure it is confirmed in Campbell's book, or are you just convinced there is a connection?
lol, the edit was done about a minute after i first wrote it to add the trivia about the car (which is also in the book) You can read the book for yourself and check if you want. The Hercules and Xena stuff is in the last third of the book, after he explains how little money he made from working on Army
When I was a kid, one of the most entertaining, creative TV series starred Bruce Campbell. A kind of modern version of "The Wild, Wild West," it was a combination (get this) western, comedy, science-fiction. It was called "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." Created by Jeffrey Boam and Carlton Cuse, who scripted "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," the show lasted only one season, but showcased handsome Campbell in a still-campy, but more serious venue, which didn't require him to make over-the-top faces in ridiculous situations. It was so much fun, but most younger people have never heard of it. I always felt, after watching it, that Campbell really deserved more of a leading-man status enjoyed by "bigger" leading-man stars.
The guy at the end you were talking about was Ted Raimi. He is the younger brother of Sam Raimi. He achieved his most famous role by playing Joxer The Mighty in Xena The Warrior Princess.
The great thing about this trilogy is that the first movie sets up the horror aspect. The second one establishes Ash as a kick ass character and the third is just fun and solidifies Ashes character with the one liners.
WOW!!! Since I am use to just watching the movie (and quoting it through out) this video showed just how difficult it is to put one together. As silly as I have always found Army of Darkness, I guess I must have enjoyed it at least a little b/c I have used several of Ash's one liners several times throughout my life. I had forgotten how silly it was til watching it again here, but I got some enjoyment out of it vicariously through Lauren's genuine enjoyment of it. Through all of the head shaking and eye rolling, I still managed to smile and laugh through it.
Funnily enough, this was the first of the trilogy I saw, didn't know it was part of the evil dead films. Has to be my favourite one. And I absolutely love Bruce Campbell. As always laurenn incredible video and stay phenomenal
In each Evil Dead film, Ash's gf Linda is played by a distinctly different actress. In this installment, we only get a cameo of Linda, played by Bridget Fonda. The actor you mentioned, who played two roles in this film, is director Sam Raimi's brother Ted (SeaQuest, Xena). Also, you may want to check out another Bruce Campbell adventure, "Bubba Ho-Tep." It has to be seen to be believed.
Sam Rammi was the director and he and Bruce were highschool buddies. One of Sam's favorite things was to torture Bruce during filming. The guy at the end that Ash was telling the story to was Ted Rammi, Sam's brother. Bruce does a cameo in most of Sam's movies. You also need to see the alternate ending.
The Evil Dead trilogy has always sat high in my best horror films list even though the 2nd and Army of Darkness are more comedy orientated especially AOD. I watched Army of Darkness on cinema when it first released here in the UK, it is one of the films i remember having so much fun watching with a school friend, we both said if we had enough money we would have gone straight back in and watched it again. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell also became my favourite team in films, such a shame they didn't do more complete films together. Great reaction Laurenn but then i wouldn't have really expected any other type of reaction to Army of Darkness 😂👍 also loved all the nods that Raimi made to the old school Ray Harryhausen films that were also so much fun in their times.👌
Yep this whole series is a classic, love it all, Ash Vs. Evil ead would be such a fun watch with you, and also Evil Dead remake, is really, really good.

The guy you noticed in the S-Mart who also played one of the villagers was in the Henrietta suit in evil dead. 2. He also did some double work in the original evil dead that is Ted Raimi baby brother of Sam Raimi. Both Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi regularly have him show up in their projects.
I remember watching the Evil Dead Trilogy in reverse....I first watched Army Of Darkness first on the Sci-Fi channel in 1999...then rented Evil Dead Parts 1 and 2...and fell in love with the franchise ever since!!!! I love the over the top gore...and the Looney Tunes/Three Stooges type comedy!!! Awesome reaction...Hail to the King baby!!!😅😂
Hi Lauren. New subscriber here. Ash Williams is one of my all time favorite characters from film. Bruce Campbell is just awesome. He makes a cameo in nearly every Sam Raimi movie. If you want to see another great performance from Bruce you have to see BUBBA HO-TEP. He's basically playing Elvis Presley in a nursing home, fighting a mummy. If that doesn't sound like a good time, I don't know what does. And the fact that it's based on a story by my favorite author is icing on the cake for me. Another classic Raimi film is DARKMAN. It came out around the same time as this movie. It stars a young Liam Neeson as a dark antihero. Sam wanted to direct Spiderman so bad, but the studios wouldn't let him so he created his own dark superhero movie not based on a comic. I look forward to checking out your reactions. Also, your ink is awesome!
This is probably my 2nd fav movie behind Return of the Living Dead then probably #3 Evil Dead II. Just love Bruce and always wondered why he didn't become a bigger star. Bruces lines are just so damn funny and actually make the movie great leaving me cracking up the entire movie.
Thanks for watching the theatrical cut! The director’s cut has some neat stuff but overall it’s not as fun an experience. It also doesn’t line up with Ash vs Evil Dead. Even in the commentary for the director’s cut, Raimi talks about how much more boring the third act is and how they swapped out some jokes with inferior jokes.
The "Ash vs Evil Dead" series takes place 30 years after the 3 movies. It's got 3 seasons and it's a good time to watch even if it's in personal time and not for content.
I showed this film to my former girlfriend, since I knew it was her type of film. She really liked it, and that was a really good time in our relationship too. It's hard to watch it now though, since I found out she passed away in August of 2022. Too many memories of her and what we once had. Sorry to be a huge bummer. Enjoy the time you have with people, things can change quickly and you never know how long you'll have someone in your life. Apparently it was related to her having pneumonia, but it had to be more than that, since she was a trauma nurse and got plenty of exercise. She had just got out of the hospital, and passed away sometime during the night in her sleep.
the phrase Ash is supposed to recite comes from the classic sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still, it's the command given to the giant robot Gort by the alien Klaatu. there's a 2008 remake starring Keanu Reeves which isn't bad but the 1951 original is timeless.

For 1992 this movie is absolutely fantastic, didn’t do well at the beginning but is an absolute cult classic now
26:12 That was Xena cry. :D
One thing I love about the Evil Dead series is that there's one for every mood. Straight-up horror, comedy-horror, horror-action-comedy, with the hero played slightly different ways. It's genius. I think II might be my favourite by a slim margin.
"I'm the guy with the gun" cut! i /hate/ that there are versions with that line replaced, its my favorite line in the whole movie
Quote of the reaction:
"I feel like the chainsaw arm would be really handy right now." 28:44
I must absolutely recommend you watch The Boondock Saints. This phenomenal film flew under even my radar for quite a while before watching it.
Bruce Campbel has some amazing work.
Bubba Ho-Tep is hillarious!
The whole eyeball on the shoulder growing into a separate person is an homage to the 1959 horror film "The Manster" which took this wacky idea seriously.
Is there anything better than Laurenn happy, smiling and laughing!? Maybe not.
Sho Nuff? Who is the master?
This movie together with Gremlins introduced me as a kid to the the horror game, great memories. Amazing reaction as always Lauren❤️
Oh I've been looking forward to this reaction!
Hail to the king, baby! 😎
Hey Lauren! I am so happy you are reviewing these absolute classics!Army of Darkness is such a fun movie.loved the reaction! Thank you!!🥰🌝
Once again, the comedy takes center stage over the horror and it makes this such a fun watch.
Think I'll check this out 2nite. Thanks,aurenn.
The memories, I was in middle school when this came out, love it, saw in the theater, still quote it today, gimme some sugar baby. it been 30 years and it never get old. Timeless and will never go out if style. great reaction Lauren as always
I saw this in the cinema on its initial release. A true classic of comedy horror.
A QandA he did once with the audience:
Audience member: "Say groovy!"
Bruce Campbell: "Am I your little monkey?"
30:09 "Let's get the hell out of here!" is my favorite line from this battle! I laugh every time!
31:24 that is Sam Raimi, him and his brother Ted Raimi created the evil dead, and all the films. i have a trilogy of this film, all the versions included are the Theatrical release, the International cut, and the Director's cut. there are different endings for each.
The army of skeletons is inspired from the 1963 movie Jason and the Argonauts.
32:47 "off-standish" lol
The guy you thought was playing a knight as well were one of the Raimis. Sam and his brothers Ted and Ivan were all involved in the movie, including cameos.
So fun fact about the Evil Dead Trilogy. A different studio made each movie, so that's why scenes like him cutting off his hand was in a different room because they couldn't use footage from any of the other movies so they had to reshoot anything they wanted to reuse.
Your laughing is infectious, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
I love this movie, no matter if it's the original ending, or the one imposed by the studio at the last minute. This is how comedy is done!
I love that the skeletons sound like regular dudes getting hit, as the fall apart, and being scared there’s just something just so comical about it
It's always been a big mystery where this movie takes place, because practically every medieval European kingdom looked like Vasquez Rocks.
The words Ash has to say to go back may sound familiar if you've seen the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still."
I thought Sam Raimi wouldn't be able to top this movie until I saw, "Drag Me To Hell." (A must watch!)
Thanks for brightening my day!
Why is he working at S-Mart?!" ~Rich Evans
26:30 Why do you suppose he said "21st" instead of "20th?" I think it's canon that the events of the first two movies take place in 1982, plus AoD came out in 1992, so in either case, it's still the 20th century.
I loved him Xena Warrior Princess as the "Kind of Thieves🖤"
Just as from the sequel to this movie, I love that the director Sam Raimi's brother is in it whom I LOVE and plays Joxer in Xena as well *.*
So hilarious!!
I saw this before the any evil dead movie and I like the larger scale feel and more comedic elements. Bruce Campbell is always throwing out iconic cheesy one-liners. Hail to the King Laurenn!
Come for the reaction stay because your cackling laugh is both cute and contagious! Army of Darkness is one of my fave Raimi movies and i'm glad you enjoyed it that much
Great reaction! Love the Evil Dead movies and it was fun watching your reaction to it.
In your original comment, which you've now edited since my first comment, you said; 'You can tell this movie was the seed for the TV-shows Hercules and Xena.' Are you sure it is confirmed in Campbell's book, or are you just convinced there is a connection?
lol, the edit was done about a minute after i first wrote it to add the trivia about the car (which is also in the book)
You can read the book for yourself and check if you want.
Bruce Campbell was hilarious in this movie lmao
WOW!!! Since I am use to just watching the movie (and quoting it through out) this video showed just how difficult it is to put one together. You hit every one of my favorite lines (and there's a bunch of them). The pacing was great. Your reaction was so much fun. So, it was another example of why I keep coming back.🧡 Lauren, wonderful job🥰 I can't wait to see what's next. Have a beautiful evening and I'll see you on Live. As always, Peace and love Lauren.🧡✌️. I'm out
The one-liners were some of the best hands down, they had me cracking up so many times😂I'm glad you enjoyed the video Rich, that makes me happy to read😊Thank you so much for watching!
I don't think I've ever seen you laugh so much in a reaction!
Your joy when watching this is the best Laurenn :)
One of the most quotable movies ever made, so many great one liners.
Yep this whole series is a classic, love it all, Ash Vs. Evil ead would be such a fun watch with you, and also Evil Dead remake, is really, really good.
The dude at the end is Ted Raimi, who is Sam's brother. He was also Henrietta in the suit in 2. I can't wait to see your reaction to the Remake/Re-quel, it's all practical as well. Can you react to the new Evil Dead Rise trailer?
I love this movie. It's a classic and so very cheezy. Some of the best worst lines ever. "Gimmie some sugar, baby" 🤣🤣
On UA-cam is the making/documentary of the evil dead movies.
Highly recommend
