  • I fished my 2nd MLF Toyota Series Tournament on Lake Champlain this past August. What a great fishery! I had so much fun catching those super strong smallmouth bass. I hope to make this an annual trip. Follow me in this video and check out how I did and how I did all I could to help my co-anglers succeed. There's also a guest appearance by Tackle Warehouse Pro Ron Nelson!
    Thanks for watching!

Good video. It sounds like you all learned a lot and in the long run it will pay off in the future. Wait and see. And also that bad mouth crap you gotten a few times about your co anglers can now be put to rest. Cause you did your part to help. My hats off to you!!!!!!!

Maybe 1 day I will be a boater.... This is my 4th season fishing MLF. Sad to say I will not be qualified to fish the Regionals this time. I have enjoyed the last 3 regionals besides the travel time alone. I love to fish and watch all your videos! Head up at all times. PMA !

Awesome job and great video! I love that you could help so many people out and kinda take one for the team once you seen it wasn’t going your way. You are the reason I fish, people like you are the reason we get better at fishing. Thank you sir for showing us the great things you do!

My son (Nicholas Goodling) was one of those co’s that you helped. He had nothing but good stuff to say about fishing with you. Thanks for taking care of him.

Jeffrey you did an outstanding job and represented North Carolina's anglers not only in your generosity to help your fellow anglers but with the nice stringers of bass that you caught! Outstanding my brother! Keep catching them on tight lines and your days are coming! Later bro, Lee

It was worth the drive. It isn't that bad if you break it down into 2 days. About 14 hours. I hope to make it an annual trip. Appreicate you watching.

I've got a lot to say.
FIrst off, I hate you didn't do as good as you'd hoped.
secondly, How do you feel about a co casting over your shoulder while you're fishing offshore?
Thirdly, it was amazing that you gave your co permission to cast over your shoulder to have an opportunity to catch some fish
fourthly, it was also amazing that you lent you boat to a fellow angler to complete the tournament,
fithley, as a co-angler thus far the last thing we hope to draw is someone that fishes offshore due livescope. In regionals last year I drew a boater that said casting over his shoulder at fish he as marking was not "ideal". I said I knew that. Then when fish started schooling behind the back of the boat and he threw over my shoulder and I said "wait I thought we wasn't gonna throw over each others shoulders? and he said "when they come up schooling its fair game."
Keep doing what you're doing and you're time will come. I look forward to all your videos.

Thanks for the comment! I'll respond to each of your questions individually.
Question: How do I feel about a co casting over my shoulder offshore?
Personally, thats a big no no unless I say go for it. If a co does it without asking I'll just politely say, "Hey man, don't cast in front of me." I've had that happen before and I've said that before and there was never any issues. I've even posted it a time or two on a video here or there. Now before you say I'm back boating or hindering my co's ability to fish... Having someone else's lure side by side with mine is distracting to me and I also feel it makes the fish less likely to bite if theres 2 "make believe" lures in his face rather than just one. The co-angler has free reign over the back of the boat. As you can see in this video, I do give my co-anglers ample opportunity to cast and I even pointed in the direct location to cast in order to help him. But until that point comes where I invite them to do so, casting in front of me is not something I like. Most boaters feel the same way as I do about this topic.
Question: Are schooling fish fair game?
If the exact situation happened as you described, you'd probably get the first cast in there then I'd follow up. Every situation out there is different so it's hard to say exactly how it would play out.
Your Comment: As a co-angler thus far the last thing we hope to draw is someone that fishes offshore with livescope.
Livescope is a major player now and almost every angler has one on his boat. Technology and electronics will continue to be a major player going forward and co-anglers will have to find a way to catch fish behind a livescoper. The weights in this Lake Champlain tournament were unreal on the co-angler side so it's obviously possible to catch them behind someone scoping for fish. However, I did hear from a couple co-anglers that their pro was literally out in 80 feet of water trying to catch 1 isolated roaming fish. That's tough on you guys but it happens.
Thanks so much for watching! Hope to see you on the water one day. :)
