When learning to drive a manual car, the first exercise is to locate the biting point in the clutch. The biting point is when the engine begins to engage the transmission and move the vehicle forward. To learn the location of the biting point, put the transmission in first gear, apply the parking brake, and bring the clutch out just far enough to have the tachometer dip. When the tachometer dips, hold the clutch without stalling the engine, and then push the clutch back in.
Good luck on your road test.

love having a low biting point on the clutch
a high biting point can be a pain
if i knew this when i started driving it would've gone a lot smoother
It always helps when you have the correct information. All the very best, Cheers Rick
Thank you so much for this, I wish knew this earlier. Would have saved me a lot of time to learn to drive.
Hi Denica Govender - you are most welcome my friend. Drop us a note if we can help further my friend. All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest Thanks, I most certainly will.
Hello. I have a new clutch fitted. The biting point is very close to the floor. Is it normal or should I take it back to adjust it? Kind regards
Yes, I would suggest you get it adjusted my friend. Cheers Rick
Thank you
My clutch on new used car is working fine in every gear but it clutch comes about all the way up. Do you have any idea how long the clutch will still work before i have to change it?
Wouldnt this burn the clutch though ?
No, that won't burn the clutch my friend. You're only doing it for a bit while you're learning to drive. All the best, Cheers Rick
Is it burning the clutch whenever you hold it buddy…That’s reality…
@@BearThatSwingsso ur not gonna drive ur car because it burns gas, clutch and brakes? u sound sped asf lmao
I didnt know Michael Keaton was doing these educational videos.
Bro my biting point just makes car shake that it
By clutch in do you mean clutch down?🤦🏽♀️is this an American video, motor? tachometer? This didn't help me at all back to the UK videos😂😂😂
See this video my friend: ua-cam.com/video/iW2Q7lIxrRo/v-deo.html Do you not have a tachometer in your vehicle? The tachometer is the gauge left of the speedometer that tells you how fast the engine is spinning. Yes, clutch in means push it down - if that's better language. Drop us a note if you have further questions. Cheers Rick
