So happy to see another test with this radio on the O-Scope. I just posted a video on this radio as well, and noticed a problem on 2M low-power with the output waveform (on 3 different radios). So far you are the only other I've seen address this. Thank you and 73!

I've seen that on other radios... Good thing it's sold as a GMRS radio and not a ham radio. It's not a loop-hole if its legal.

nice test. I got one of the newer A36+ and it tested clean. but it did come locked to GMRS only. but when un locked it was clean on harmonic's so I kept it and gave it to my girlfriend. she wanted green radio. the RX on it is great does air band and so much more. the program cable is great easy to use with CHRIP . and that program cable is better than the UV-5R program cable. it fits in the K1 plug easy. can use it on many radios that program threw K1 port. what a improvement over the first ones sent out. Josh and Hayden got some very dirty radios. Hayden got new one . did video they fixed it. nice review on Talkpod. 73's

That's a common feature on a ton of radios. It's programmable.

Thanks Jeem. Good concise test, apart from random weird radio harmonic.
Is this like the TID H8 and H3 where you can swap/unlock between GMRS and HAM?

When testing radios on SA why wouldnt someone run the radio and analyzer with antennas as opposed to using an attenuator and coax direct?

I am a student pilot and I need an inexpensive radio to listen to the airband, is the Talkpod A36 Plus a good option for me? Thank you.

Hey Jose! I am actually a pilot myself. IMO, no. For several reasons. Most importantly, it's not tied in to your headset, so it will be very hard to hear. I also think (IMO) that you have better situational awareness while flying. If you're talkin about on the ground, then if it recieves air band, sure it will be fine. Depending on where you live, it will be hard to scan tower, approach(es), ground, and/or clearance delivery. Just kind of depends on how big your local airport is. Good luck getting your ticket!

2:03 why annoying? Almost all HT from China use the same Kenwood connector, you need only one for all of your China HT.

There are actually a couple of different sizes, and not a huge difference in how they look. I can't remember which radio(s) they were with, but that style is not completely standard.

Thanks to guys like you and Ape not selling out to the gear pushers like Talkpod have to build a level playing field with us and Japan.
When I started my personal journey getting back into radio it didnt even cross my mind that guys I would talk to on the radio as brothers in the hobby would put GAS and personal self aggrandization before the good of the order.
It should have nearly imperceptable harmonics Jim, we both know this.
Talk pod wont fool me today and given their contempt of our culture and society based on selling junk not likely ever. Its an ethics issue and you solve it dispassionately with tests. Good on you!

It's kind of sus that the FCC ID could not be found.

Considering the FCC has established a legal entity in China for compliance they have only deception at front of mind and profits to gain in any subterfuge or overbroad type acceptance use across and entire breadth of models. Im pretty certain every different service frequency (class) model has to use that specific type accepted testing and results easily found under the FCC id.

Good enough for government work, but not amateur play. If it don't fail consistently can you really fail it? :)

Lol, I wish you guys would send a couple of these my way and Ill give them the testing we gave gear in Navy, and provide a dramatic award for failing devices. It would be distinctly not a Sherwood style report. Im old and in my twilight and want my legacy to be budget operator with uncompromising standards for gear and conduct in this hobby. I watched hundreds of videos to aquire an HT and after so many ambiguous reviews I came to be sceptical of motives and clearly conflicted. In the end I traded an expensive metal detector that a disabled guy like me cant use and for an unquestionably good FT-70D that survives my daily drops and has no perceptable harmonics at 2m and 70cm with full quieting into repeaters from Milwaukee to Chicago on the Elk LPA or easily 30 plus miles to other repeaters. One good used Yaesu HT is better than the proverbial 5 of these in hand because it does what we should expect of it.
