A full walkthrough of this excellent granular looper plugin (VST3, AUv3, CLAP, AU) by Aqeel Aadam. Note that this is a little bit crash-prone at present, at least on iOS, but it is very, very good. I currently have a giveaway for 3 Patrons to win copies of this for desktop or iOS on my Patreon. If you like walkthroughs and demos of experimental apps and plugins, why not subscribe to my channel and click the bell, you might like it here! **Edit: turns out there is in fact a manual for this, though it is not mentioned on the Gumroad or anywhere inside the iOS app. It does get sent to desktop buyers, apparently. I have asked Aqeel to give me a url link to the manual, and will post it here when I get it. I hope he adds that link inside the app itself, as well. Edit of edit: got a link now, manual is OK, bit more detail on some aspects would be good aqeelaadam.github.io/ridgewalk_manual.pdf 🟪 My Patreon www.patreon.com/Gavinski 🟧 Links and info: AUv3 for iPad / iPhone ($10): apps.apple.com/app/ridgewalk/id6502917859 Desktop version ($35 intro, $50 regular): aqeelaadam.gumroad.com/l/ridgewalk/kv0qk86 Blurb: Ridgewalk is a standalone app and AUv3 plug-in. Ridgewalk lets you explore sound in unique ways not possible before. Meander between microscopic moments in a sample to create an infinite soundscape, or stretch or compress audio in realtime, all while recording and reacting to new input instantly. Ridgewalk is both a looper and a granular engine. Output is generated by a set of independent microloopers that traverse a single buffer of audio. The audio buffer can be freely recorded to, overdubbed over, and reverted to a previous version, and the microloopers will transition smoothly and instantly. With control over the microloopers' size, behavior, and movement throughout the buffer over time, you're free to reimagine and reinterpret audio like never before - all in realtime. Ridgewalk is designed as a modular tool for flexible usage. It is equally comfortable at the heart of your composition, collaborating with you as you perform, or as a finishing touch to provide a unique complementary atmosphere to deepen your mix. Ridgewalk is fully compatible with modulators such as Ableton CV or Bitwig LFOs to broaden horizons even further. Ridgewalk has the following controls available: Recording: Record via your choice of two unique techniques. Choose between automatic recording via input volume detection and a classic latching recording technique that can record infinitely. Buffers can be up to 60 seconds or 16 bars. Overdubbing: Freely overdub on top of existing audio with two methods. Choose between a traditional feedback dub or a unique sidechain dub which compresses existing audio against new input. Playback will smoothly transition to new recordings instantly. Layers: Each overdub creates a new layer, which you can then move between smoothly and revert to previous versions of audio. Full recall: All recorded audio will be saved and reloaded when reopening a project. Sample importing: Rather than record, Ridgewalk can import samples directly. Volume controls: Independent volume trim controls for dry and wet volume. Playback: Looper playback can be played and paused independently of input and recording. Playback will instantly reflect any changes to recorded audio. Hold time: Looper playback can be automatically paused after a defined time since starting. This allows Ridgewalk to act like a strange reverb or delay. Reverse: Playback can be reversed and audio can be recorded in reverse as well. Looper size: Loopers can span from microscopic fragments of the buffer to the full size, and can be synchronized with your BPM. Looper amount: Up to 7 microloopers are available, which move together in concert with one another. Drift: Looper size and positioning can be randomly and independently desynchronized to add variations and unpredictability. Blur: A one-stop-shop for increasing ambience: this controls looper crossfading as well as introduces reverb. Repitch: Playback can be repitched from 2 octaves. Random movement (Wander): Looper positioning can be set to randomly wander the sample over time via Brownian motion. otion. voUr BPM. Sequential movement: Looper position can move linearly through a sample over a time defined in seconds or synchronized to your BPM. Manual looper positioning: Loopers can be positioned manually via tap or click, turning Ridgewalk into a performative instrument. Instant playback: Ridgewalk can start playing back from recorded audio as soon as it is able, turning its granular looping algorithm into a live effect. Transport syncing: Ridgewalk can be synced with your DAW's transport to automatically start/stop playback or recording.
This really expands on the ideas of Weeping Wall, taking it further, with more options. Really sounds great, inspiring possibilities. Hopefully the bugs get ironed out soon. Also a Midi input option to play this chromatically would be nice, but just riffing here, already great as is.
Yes, liking this very much! I got the iOS version yesterday and bought the AU today thru your link. Thanks as always for the excellent walkthru! Lots to explore here...
I think Aqeel said, fade time was simply like a blend and release tail on the sound , plus it also changes depending on blur , and what traversal mode you are on… I’m still experimenting. 👾
Very nice app. Couple questions: Can each buffer be recorded separately? If so, can each buffer be recoded in either forward or reverse? Can each buffer be recorded at a different pitch?
Also, about the buffer, it is a bit confusing. Manual keeps saying there is just one buffer, but each time you record, that is stored, up to a maximum of 10 - iirc - layers. The layers knob is used to select which layer is currently active. I explained this in the video btw
Hi, which versión of ipad are you using? I want to buy one for using plugins with my op-1 field dunno if ipad air m2 might benthe best budget choice or ipad pro m1. I want this for live perfomance. Can you help me, please. Also this is a great tutorial ridgewalk is amazing. Im using it with ableton
Thanks. I use a 5th Gen Pro. That's M1. I bought it 2nd hand 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. Generally the advice is to buy the best and latest model you can afford, if you want to future proof yourself and use it for many years, which is the boat I'm in. I hope I can hang on to it another 4 years or so. If you're the kind of person who replaces devices regularly, your needs might differ. It's a big decision though, you'll really have to dyor. Good luck!
Hita Gavinski, gr8 overview as per usual….. Using this with weeping wall is like a hybrid version of chase bliss ‘ ONWARD ‘ guitar pedal. …by the way can you recommend a solution for midi note to midi cc that will let me play the pitch shifter , so that I can chromatically play the pitch of whatever is in the audio buffer ? Cheers 👾
@@GavinskisTutorials great overview of the envelope follower, with the FAC ENVOLVER, which I’m not sure to get, as I’ve got gdsp mmm, just realised it processes audio, as I had midi in my mind 🤡, once again cheers Gav’

Oh, great idea about the midi input, yes, maybe you should email the dev to suggest that, nice one
Uhhhh - every new Plugin with Clap is soooo welcome! Thank you for bringing this to us!
Also as stated before on Patreon - maybe a touch surface is the greatest way to use
Yes, liking this very much! I got the iOS version yesterday and bought the AU today thru your link. Thanks as always for the excellent walkthru! Lots to explore here...
Nice, unfortunately I didn't have an affiliate link for this one, I will certainly make sure it is an affiliate link next time tho!
bought it immediately but havent had a minute to try it out. so excited for this
You’ll enjoy it, I reckon, really nice app to experiment with
Very nice. Congratulations 🎉🎈 to the dev & to you as well Gav.
Special.
Wonderful 🎉
Bzw. - good luck for the Patreons 😘
Always a pleasure to give you a little backup behind Gavin
Big ❤to the Patreon supporters for real, cheers brother!
Just caught the end of the premiere- but looking forward to watching the complete upload. Cheers Gav.
Enjoy Aaron!
Thank you for the walkthrough! Giving serious consideration to get this app 😊
I'm enjoying it for sure, Cory
Nice. 👍🏻 a trick I do is set the pitch to Octave and Fifths and put an LFO on it. Try it 😊
Sweet sounding trick 👍
Really dig it. I like the tap function with the waveform which is similar to Fluss.
Yes the tap function is a super nice touch
Sounds so beautiful
Yes, I really like the sound of this so much more than Bleass Granuliser, for example
This will be great for drones and pads and maybe transitions.
Genuinely really love this one

Yeah, there are a few things I'm still not 100% clear on, finally got hands on manual, but I don't think it goes into the level of detail I'd like.
Very nice app. Couple questions: Can each buffer be recorded separately? If so, can each buffer be recoded in either forward or reverse? Can each buffer be recorded at a different pitch?
Yes and yes
Oh - and for your third question, no. But yes to the first two

This is basically eurorack beads and Morphagene combined which would be about $800 so yeah 50 isn’t bad and 6 bucks I paid today on iOS is a steal!
It is definitely a false economy to compare prices of hardware and software. Clearly, tho, $6 is a bargain, for sure!

Hi! Not sure of a solution for that. Maybe ask on the ABF?

MMM will do the job!
Otra clase magistral
Gracias!
Top, I use weeping wall with bleass granulizer or UA Silo to obtain something similar 😂
Good tip!
Granular FX
Can I play guitar live through this? 🙂
Sure, as long as u get your guitar sound into your device
Great „with whatever“ you give it, it seems - vocals…
Pretty much - there are a lot of sound design possibilities with this, this vid is only scratching the surface
