Field mechanics are the unsung heros of any operation. And they get a lot of pressure because every hour of downtime is costing the company thousands of dollars. ✌️

It's just sad to see that the really professional ones are getting more and more rare, too many people who are in the job without any actual skills. Poor welding jobs, not using grease at all for parts that need it, loosing parts and bolts in the mud, then replacing them with something they shouldn't be replaced with, or not even putting all the bolts back etc... I guess many get into field service because it pays so well as a contractor and once you leave the site you can pretty much forget about it and let someone fix your mistakes - and the market is so big that you can get away with poor workmanship for quite long.

When I first started I didn't know how good I had it with our mechanic and how much he taught me in the off season while working with him . When he left the company it was incredible how quickly things were piled up broken , other stuff barely making it through the day and they went through about 7 more before they got a mechanic who was halfway decent again !!!

A little longer frame you could add a single sleeper behind the cab...could come in real handy on one of those late night repair jobs that has the need the machine running for 7am, start time.

@@AaronWittExactly the demand far out paces the supply of these trade skills and there needs to be a push to bring the Heavy Diesel Mechanic and Welding Trade programs back to the high school level. We had these great programs when I graduated back in the mid 1980’s but unfortunately all the Trade Skills programs were all phased out in the mid nineties in order to push the 4 year college path.

Man another great show! Love the truck tour, Patrick keeps a nice rig. I would love the body but not the emissions issues from the truck😂. With Cat money I guess thats not a concern. Palfinger sure makes nice stuff, but you pay for it😬. Hey, a guy can dream, right? I cant find a body company with less than a 18 month wait list. Its crazy how many of these trucks are sold every year. At around $225,000 I cant make sense of it. Maybe one day I will figure it out, till then guess I'll just keep welding😂. Thanks for the cool videos, you guys rock!✌️

I worked at this kind of work in the seventies and eighties. What I do know is welding in that heat outdoors is brutal.... almost unbearable and for a old man in alaska, it would kill me deader than a sack full of hammer heads... nice rig, their never going to absolute but its better than a good many. Many trucks bigger have limited access to different jobs and complicate things. I do hope it is his truck and not a loaner as it takes time to learn those rigs... and they break down also

Dam that's one hell of a field service truck, here in the UK our service trucks ain't even trucks they are your average 3.5 ton vans like a Merc Sprinter or a Ford Transit but obviously the longer high roof versions.
I've never seen a service truck similar to the American one's here in the UK i don't know why companies don't spec a truck similar to the American one's over here 🤔

honest question, why not space the additional material on top of the blade a 1/4" or so? would that not save time with the arc gouging and then you can get a full pen weld? I fab stringers and ornamental railings so dont roast me to hard
