Hell friggin yeah my friend. We'd hit dawn patrol and folks would be tripping out and honking going by at 80mph seeing us walk the 5 fwy at 5 am in wetsuits 🤣 Those were the days.
The things that people complain about when they are in NATURE...complaining about things that live in NATURE. Bees and squires??? Well...they can be annoying, but if you don't want to be around them, don't go outside in areas where they may be. lol
We love the San Clemente campgrounds! Ants, rabbits and of course the USMC bugles playing revile and taps are a part of our local culture. Just crack an icy cold beverage from your ICECO fridge and sit back in that comfy ICECO chair and you’re ready for the beach. Try Sonny’s Pizza next time. It’s a great local spot.
I've stayed here twice, and I had a great experience both times. No issues, quiet, the beach was just a short walk down the path, spots were spacious and separated by bushes and trees. Sleeping in typically isn't a thing to expect if you're at a developed campground in an urban area.
Stayed there last year with the Fam and friends after a day of surfing at Sano. I have been camping for decades and everywhere. This one broke me. I have no desire to ever go camping again. No bees, some squirls, and a bunch of people partying until 2am and urinating in a bush 8 feet from my tent. My 15 year old daughter's tent was next to us. I was up early the next day and made sure we made enough noise to wake those clowns up too. Forget that, I am staying in Marriott from here on out.
The prices at CA State Beaches are ridiculous and the Reserve California website is infuriating. That said, the staff at the parks in this district have gotten SO much better in the last couple years or so.

I camped there with my sons when they were young. I quickly filled up with Orange county teenagers who partied until there was a fight and the park ranger came and kicked them out. Besides that, it is so close to I-5 at times it sounded like every semi was driving through my tent. One star is generous if you are in a tent.
I've had some decent experiences at San Mateo, but I was in High School the first time so we probably were the problem but came back 20 years later with an RV and loved it, the atmosphere and weather. Signal sucks though and I like to edit and upload media while camping hahaha I know, doesn't happen often without starlink.

Also if you don’t like the sound of machine gun fire and bombs in the distance, don’t camp next to THE 2ND LARGEST MARINE BASE IN THE US. You can hear the activity from this base in 3 different counties, and they chose to camp right outside its perimeter.
Bought an ICECO refrigerator for future car camping. Love it. Would not mind having a free chair. San Onofre State Beach is further south past the nuclear power plant. Use to camp there in my youth. Hikes to the beach is more challenging. Did you mean “Trestles” instead “Trenches”?
Stayed 2 years ago- lots of loud kids, with louder parents screaming for the kids to shower. Machine gun and some explosives noise from Marines, just America being America. Felt like I was being watched by lots and lots of little beady eyes, was not the Marines, it was chipmunks. Noticed the comet tires everywhere. You are in nature but nothng to see unless going to beach. Meh review

Hapa J's used to be better when it originally opened. Now, it's on 3rd owner 😂! The only safe bet there to eat is the Kahlua Pork Nachos and any type of alcohol!

Hello, it is camping. You are in natures territory. ie, insects, animals, rodents and such. They can just go to a hotel and not worry about it. I would be more inclined to leave the same ratings if the hotels had the same problems. Bring your own toilet/shower if you dont want to deal with possible unclean area if you go on a busy/holiday weekend.
Try some nice spots dude...camp edison shaver lake it's awesome Huntington lake is nearby that may have some 1 star sites...dig what your doing keep it going best of luck.
Camped there off season with the family and it was the sketchiest anywhere we stayed in the country. Also served in the USMC and was stationed right next to those sites in the late 90’s.

13:03 Bees are seasonal so are the ants…for the ants just put down some Diatomaceous Earth around your tent, trailer and table and you will be fine.

Yeah when you go to book it on the CA parks department it’s considered part of the San Onofre State Beach.
