I now work with a lot of the staff who worked at CCA Adams county when the riot happened. The inmates warned staff not to come to work, some sent anonymous letters to staff warning them and it fell on deaf ears. They failed to protect the staff who they knew were targets. He was murdered on his off day and was called in to work when upper management knew full well inmates wanted and fully intended to kill him. CCA Adams County was HORRIBLE. All of the inmates were immigrants and the language barrier prevented staff and inmates from being able to communicate. Inmates medical concerns were going untreated, the food was horrible and the Warden was a damn fool for ignoring the warnings. Lt Loftin mentioned in the video is a coworker of mine now and he still to this day has PTSD. He blames himself for his best friends murder.

Inmates generally do not want to kill the guards in these cases, they know it will just create an even worse case for them overall. They just use them as negotiation pieces, so to have an actual hit list….. there was something going on there with them. Sad story overall.

I worked in prisons 25 years knowing it is a very dangerous place, but there is no excuse for warning signs not being addressed which could have prevented the loss of this officer. Corporation’s need to be held accountable, the after action report showed the dangers of this situation and shortcuts in staffing, inexperienced staff, supervisors and lack of bi lingual staff to help with communication. I am so sorry for the victims and no one knows the danger inside those fences unless you have been there. Low risk inmates turn into animals when control is lost.

Treat them as such. Unfortunately it's a violent cycle in their. On both sides. It's a bad system and it's designed that way. They use torture on in mates. Deprivation on many levels. From touch to sight smell sound. Keys rattling to steal slamming doors. It's a very degrading system and expect them to become kind and courteous and turn into great members of society. I don't think he should have lost his life. But he probably had a beating coming because of the system. 25 years you would be very numb to the system.

You are correct in your point of view and how to avoid these prison riots but in addition to your ideas, I think CCA needs to add lethal weapons to prevent future prison riots. That officer on that rooftop should've at least been armed with a pistol in that situation. Also there should be elevated armed posts around the prisons as an added safety measure.

As a former inmate of a max security prison all correction officers should read this.
As a person who served 7 years I've seen many officers attacked. The guards who are safe from attack are the ones who have the same attitude daily, enforce your rules and never switch up letting it go one day and being an asshole the next.
It's ok to treat inmates as people, these dangerous people that your around have morals as well. I had officers I'd risk my life to protect if i seen them in danger. But these are the ones who were respectful, let small petty shit like hanging art, tying up your TV to the bed, letting you keep your extra pillow. You know them small rules that aren't hurting anyone. It's ok to enforce security threats and major infractions we know to fallow them but the picture of my son taped to a wall isn't hurting anyone and ripping them off damaging my stuff would make something so little much bigger of an issue. If it must come down ask me to do it and I'll comply but you rip or damage it in anyway we have a much bigger issue. The small things really do matter to us when we have so little we charish everything we own from my pens to my old notebook or magazines I'd be willing to fight for them.
Anyways the cool ones who are the same daily I'd stop others from attacking, treating them negative, name calling. I'd explain hey that's the cool one don't fuck with that guard and most would listen. If I thought you were in danger I'd give you the heads up risking my life for your safety even though I have to spend 24hrs a day with these people for years and thinking I'm safe on another unit think again. There's always a way to spread word to different prisons and different yards. So just u letting the little things go and being respectful I'd be risking life.
Now for the assholes who treat us like animals I'd probably sit back and.watch. I wish you the best but I won't risk my life for the person who treats me like crap on the daily. And remember the inmates who are right there in that 30 sec to 3 min it takes guards to rush in is all someone needs to do some serious damage. If ur one who deserves to be protected u don't gotta sit and take that couple min beating. Any guard who reads this set you stopwatch and sit there for just 2 min. In that time a makeshift weapon or lock can leave you severely injured.
Whichever of the two you are, stay safe.

Although criminals, they are well aware of who treats them well and who doesn't so this wasn't just a random killing. That guard finally got a taste of his own medicine........ had he treated those prisoners fairly he would have still been alive. There's a lesson to be learned here for correctional officers, it is all about 'respect' in the prison system and they all know this, some just choose to overstep the boundaries and, well, this is what happens.

They always tell me the staff there don’t give a damn about their job and let the inmates do whatever they want. Prisons are difficult to run for sure but these Private Prisons are the worst. It takes a lot for all the inmates to agree to something like a riot against staff. Inmates generally act in small groups and they know a riot is very bad for their drug business so they try to avoid them.

I worked repairing inmate phones all over the country. CoreCivic sucks. You do not want to be in their facility, wherever it is.
Story time: we were doing an install at CoreCivic in Casa Grande, AZ. They were short-staffed, of course, but we had to be escorted. They brought in a guard who usually worked outside.
The second we walked on a pod escorted by this guy, it exploded. Every inmate was screaming, "Fuck you, G___!" (place was locked down of course)
Later he told me they all hated him because he writes them up, he's not taking their shit.
Another CC guard told me, "That guy is such a hardon. He can't work inside, they'd kill him. The rest of us are just getting through the days, same as the prisoners."

I worked for CCA from 2008 until 2013. Myself and 11 other officers from Virginia went to the Adams Co. Correctional Facility in 2012 and we arrived just hours after the riot ended to help with clean up and overall security. I spent two weeks there living in a hotel when I wasn't at the facility. The amount of damage and overall carnage that was imposed was unreal. Dozens of inmates were transported to hospitals for very serious injuries. I was tasked with taking one to Adams County hospital in Fayette, Mississippi. I remember he had a pen sticking out of his left eyeball and both of his cheeks were lacerated all the way through. You could see his teeth (molars) while his mouth was closed. At that point in my career I had seen some pretty gruesome stuff so it didn't really bother me that much, I was moreso happy I didn't have to be at the facility for the time being. One thing that really amazed me and something I never understood was the amount of human feces all over the compound. It was everywhere. And the blood.

Wow, the inmates had a field day at that private prison for profit. It takes real Men not some greedy corporate bureaucrats to run a prison. Too bad people were hurt, but that is what happens when these men are disrespected, physically abused, deprived, treated like slaves and animals by the staff that is there to protect them. They are human beings. The Woman CO was a liability and a vulnerable victim of violence, too bad she had to learn a tuff lesson.

In 1990 there was a riot at MCI-H Maryland Correctional Institute-Hagerstown.
This was the second of two riots each touching off in early June two years in a row. The smaller riot came first in what we called Vietnam. The inner recreational yard area of the prison. This was enclosed completely by the building. It was a courtyard and had a stone wall waist high surrounding the walkway that was dismantled by the inmates using the weight lifting bars and the stones then used as weapons.
The second riot started in the chow hall and lasted much longer. The first riot lasted 12 to 20 hours, the second riot, almost exactly a year later, lasted 3 days. The entire prison was seized by the inmates except the out building housing areas and the back keys secured sections containing the arsenals.
The national Guard took control back with force. Over 250 inmates and dozens of officers were casualties. I would love to see a report on that riot.

😮 Dang it man. I was in prison in ACI Florida. Its considered one of the bloodiest pounds in Florida. Hell was always breaking loose. My first day they were pressure washing the outside concrete area trying to get all the blood off the walk. Saw a LT and two other officers get poked up very badly for not letting the inmates stay up for the Super bowl. 58 months. I will never ever go back. 😢

I did time in cca / la palma c.c in eloy, Arizona, north fork c.f in sayre Oklahoma , talahatchie county in Tutwiler ms. I was sentenced to 10 years state time in California 2007.. the terminator was our governor and prisons were overcrowded. Cells, gyms and dayrooms filled from southern Cali all the way up north.. well they started sending inmates “out of state” . Cca first time dealing with California prison politics. Surenos, nortenos, bloods and crips, skins and peckerwoods, the polotics within the others (Asians, usos, indians, etc.) cuz they wit it too.. this is a crazy situation here obviously but at each prison I was at out of state there were riots with the cca staff. One guard in Mississippi got his eye stabbed out in riot between surenos and staff in chow hall.. cca seen so much there has to be so much footage from their cameras.. those prisons were flooded with drugs and phones the things I seen in those facilities I seen no where else straight convicts manipulated so many weak minded guards to bring stuff for 15 to 25 hundred while they flip it for 5 to 10 k worth. Facts!! I returned to Cali 2015 and they closed down the last facility in tutwiler Mississippi in 2016..

You have been miss informed about 2 officers been killed in CCA . You need to go back 2000 in Hardeman County and South Central in Wayne County and other prisons that are run by CCA . I'm a former inmate myself. Being in private prisons is like hell and CCA will treat inmates like a animals and not like a human beings. CCA do have away of cover up things that goes on in their private prisons.
