Awesome video, thanks’ a lot.
I was wandering if it were possible to directly install windows when changing hard drive, for instance using a pen drive; or if you have to install Catilina (or any other mac ox system) first, and then use boot camp to install windows.
I'm not sure. I believe you can, but haven't tried. Might be a trick to it.
I recently got this as a backup device. I upgraded the HDD to a 1TB SSD, the RAM to 16GB & replaced the battery. I even updated the OS via Open Core Legacy Patcher to Ventura, but found it to be laggy so I removed it & use it in Catalina. It's a really good backup device for basic to medium level tasks
Yup, pretty good
@@ItsBinhRepairedhow long does should it take to format 1TB ssd. It’s been doing it for 15 hours and still not finished. “Partitioning estimated time is stuck at 14 minutes with half the drive showing to be formatted
Once new battery, new ram and new ssd is installed. Any buttons that should be pressed before the formatting? Seems like a struggle. I’m missing a step
@@AlSiguenza formatting usually takes seconds
@@AlSiguenza your hard drive cable might be faulty
Hey Bi`nh, thanks for making the video. I bought a used A1278 recently and upgraded the RAM to 16GB. I plan to upgrade the HD to SSD as well.
My question is what is the purpose of the 4 jumpers (J0, J1, J2, J3) at the upper left? They come from the display ribbon from upper right.
When I opened mine. They are left unconnected. If I connect any one of them, the screen will just flash when powered on, then nothing.
In the video, those jumpers look connected. I can't find anything about them.
I'm not sure
So is the A1278 early 2011 or mid-2012? Friend of mine just gave me his old laptop. I want to do the ram and SSD upgrades. You called out a different RAM than the one I'm seeing for A1278 which is showing PC3-10600.
Need the serial number to look it up.
I’m getting mine in a couple hours do I need to back anything up or anything I’m getting it bran new can I just swap them out or no
What are you getting?

@@ItsBinhRepaired and I was wondering do I have to start it and set it up and everything or can I just replace the drive with an ssd
@@andremosley41 make a time machine backup and then restore the backup to the SSD.
Do the resets you mentioned need to be done before anything is put on the new ssd? I recently did this upgrade to my Mac but I cloned the drive and it's working fine. Can I still do these resets after I'm up and running again. Thank you for your video.
You can do it after as well
Hi I just installed a 500gb ssd, having issues with opening some apps like iCloud, says safari can’t establish a secured connection.
Check date and time
do i need to downlod any thing on the new SSD like I do in windows
You need a time machine backup
whenever i boot up and hold option i see the cursor and thats it
nothing else loads
Might have to reinstall the OS
I have install ssd, while um going to erase the ssd on disk utility its failed and ssd didn’t show in disk utility after that error message. I have shut down the laptop and tried several times but same error happening. Is there any solution? I have tried to erase with Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Your recovery mode much be too old. Needs at least high Sierra to read the new apple apfs format.
@@ItsBinhRepaired my Mac Model is Mid 2012, and previously i have install Mac Os catalina on my HDD. Now wanted to Change HDD to SSD.
@@Vlog_Dimension connect the old hard drive with a usb adapter and hold the alt key to boot from it
Now facing new problems, after several attempt i have successfully erase ssd, then started installation of catalina, after installation my screen was white and a prohibitory sign was showing. After than i have go to the recovery mode several times but ssd not showing in disk utility. Open the back part and connect cables again but still no signs of ssd.
I hate how UA-cam doesn't notify me of replies. Were you able to figure it out?
Have you considered the silicon solder mat? I love mine (from Amazon) for organizing the tiny screws.
Nope, I used a special magnet tray I made myself. I don't like loose rolling around screws.
@@ItsBinhRepaired Same. Once one hits my grey carpet it's gone forever :)
@@JeremyBolanos I need to find a way to mass produce the magnet tray and sell them
@@ItsBinhRepaired Glowforge? 3D Printer?
@@JeremyBolanos can that print metal?
I dont know what happened but after I installed the new ssd, and tried to boot from my usb installer, holding alt only goes to recovery mode instead of boot device selection. What did I miss?
In some other times, it only blinks the folder with question mark, which I think it is saying there's no bootable device.
Hmmm very strange. What are you using to boot from? I recommend making a time machine backup from the old drive and recovering with that.
@@ItsBinhRepaired i was trying with a flash drive. I guess time to make time machine backup then.
@@YukimaruM how did you create the flash drive?
Why it showing -1007F . In Internet recovery. Installed new ssd
Because apple is an ass and wants to planned obsolescence them. You'll need an external way to do the OS install.
I just put in new hard drive and now on Home Screen it’s the hard drive logo with a question mark symbol what did I do?
How did you migrate the os to it?
@@ItsBinhRepaired I didn’t I don’t even know what that means
@The Truth everything is stored on the hard drive. If you put a blank one in there, there's nothing for it to run. Are you trying to upgrade the computer or start completely new?
@@ItsBinhRepaired I think I have to start completely new it’s the mid 2012 mac book pro . I went to Apple Store and guy ran a test on it. It came up hard drive issue so I ordered a mx500 crucial ssd now I’m just trying to put in the new one did everything you said to do
@The Truth it might not have been a bad hard drive. A lot of the time it's the hard drive cable. Try command option R on boot to do an internet recovery.

Why do you install Catalina? Why not just install high Sierra ?
Why would you want an older OS?
@@ItsBinhRepaired I didn't know it was older my bad lol now it makes more sense. I currently have mine on Sierra
