Tip for gathering iron: Take longship and the mats to make a portal, leave a portal at your base unconnected and named whatever you want. Go explore your world map, drop down your portal twin when you need to repair or drop off loot at base. My brother and I did this for farming iron. We would put the workbench behind the crypts, this allows you to climb up and jump on top of the crypt and put the portal on the roof where it's safe and out of the way from enemies. We were able to dump all loot that could go through portals at home and put only the scrap iron on the longship. 30 (stack of iron) × 18 (slots on longship) = 540 iron. It was so satisfying to bring that haul home. Also the bronze pickaxe is worth upgrading to max level (4) because the durability allows you to clear a crypt with a back up antler pickaxe and a buddy doing the same, sometimes we would finish a crypt without finishing our bronze pickaxe durability. Currently I run a level 4 bronze pickaxe with a level 3 iron pickaxe. I treat the bronze pickaxe as my general purpose one and the iron for silver and obsidian exclusively. The less often you repair, the more time you save, the more you get done.

So we lost out stuff and had to create a raft from our last spawn point. We were able to raft back to where we died and get all of our stuff back including parts to make our boat. The storage in the boat was floating so that nice. When we went to the crypt. We came across a poison blob inside, I died inside and my boyfriend exited the crypt and died in front of the crypt gate. We had a spawn point near the first crypt. We went back to get our stuff, I got mine and my boyfriend lost all his stuff for some reason. Also, we found out that your friends can use your stuff. My boyfriend was able to use my stuff when I died in the crypt and because he couldn’t find his like tombstone, he was able to use my weapons, armors and so forth.

When I did the boss I was waiting on a few friends so I sat around cut some trees down and made a little defense and surprisingly enough wood holds up strong against his attacks. It's a good way of maneuvering from pillar to pillar as the roots can sometimes overwhelm your current position.
When you get to mid game, do realize there's a potential use for weaker bosses in the game. Summon the deer boss and it use to deforest the entire forests, and even lure it into other areas of the map or world maybe. You can't really get it into places it shouldn't but doesn't hurt trying.
I just got the bronze age. I prefer upgrading all my gear for the next phase. I found that the bronze age workbench and forge upgrades are need my house to be bigger, now the stone workbench and upgrades need even more room. Good thing I have a meadow where my main house is.
Using the wishbone in the swamp will alert you to muddy scrap below the surface so you don't have to go in the crypts all the time, especially if they don't spawn a lot
Idk if you found out yet but if so you could make a video about how to get the wolf armor. We killed wolves and got their fur but we can only make rugs out of it. We would love to explore the Mountains (not only with soup but something that actually lasts). I suppose we need another ingredient to learn the recipe but we didnt find it yet and it is kinda driving us crazy xD
I usually build a workbench outside each crypt so I can quickly run out and repair the pickaxes and I have a boat to store more metal, with the boat you can bypass running through the dangerous and slow swamp and sail back to base easily, at least that's what I can do with my seed.
They have never respawned for me and I have tested the heck out of it. I have had others report that theirs also did not respawn. But yes you do get a seed from it.
You can teleport surtle cores and nails but not ores and bars, so you have to relocate the forge to every black forest base you can find and ignore all swamps that don't have a black forest biome.
hey firespark81 - glad to see youre covering this game - been watching you since conan !! can i get your map seed for this video , your starting area was soooo much better than mine :( , and i didnt see it under show more up top. thanx!
Slimes have surprisingly good mobility and can be dangerous if they sneak up on you. They also seem to be harder to hit with arrows for some reason. Maybe that have an innate dodge of some kind?
@@graham1034 nah I don't think they have a dodge. You can one-shot them with frost arrows tho! Biggest damage against bone mass as well. But I feel slime are easy unless they are with draugars or in any medium size group
All I'm going to say is this. I was playing on stream the other day and was starving but I could not stop playing it to go make food. Every time I start playing it I have a hard time turning it off.
I made the mistake of beaching my boat in the swamp and got swarmed by skellies and draugr. A 2 star draugr archer actually shot out my boat from under me while i was trying to escape, when I went back after dying all my boat materials were under the water just out of reach
If you make a raft or if they aren't too far off shore, you can actually jump off land/raft and fall just deep enough in the water to grab them if you are quick.
Thanks for this guide. I found the elder very far away from my spawn point on my world seed. And the worst part is the elder is located deep into swamp area. There is no way to swim on boat. I checked very carefully. Once I tryed to run there heavy equiped and make a mistake: a night came up so ghosts appears. It took me more than eyktyr buff lasts. Worst thing is swamp are in water everywhere. Wet debuf made this journey double hard. Ghosts hunt you down till there is nothing left. Theese monsters don't joke with you. They are serious thread when they locate you and they won't stop. I died like 15 times trying to get my stuff first time lost. So I think there is a solution. Yesterday I spend literally 12 hours building safe passage trough swamp. I made half way. Today I will try to build wooden tunel second part and hopefully made out safe to this second boss. Spikes denands hard wood. A lot of it. Good that I build small base near swamp in black forest where pine trees give you lot of hard wood
are there no such thing as iron veins? I would guess that should also work. i can see where needing friends comes in handy. I found a swamp but got enemy swarm way too fast. so now I am making a new base to go into a different direction. the transitions from each new biome could be a little bit better.
So far? None. Well, okay, I almost forgot THERE ARE... but you need something called the Wishbone. It's an item that's sure-dropped by the third boss, Bonemasss, the one in the Swamp biome. In the same way the Wishbone allows you to "scan" for silver deposits in the Mountain biome, it can help you locate deposits of iron. In the Swamp. Yes, they're also in the Swamp biome. Somewhere down all that water and muck and dreariness. I haven't killed Bonemass yet in my personal server, and I wasn't in the Guild server when the guildmates murdered him. But according to the Valheim wiki, using the Wishbone is far more inefficient to source iron than simply going into a Sunken Crypt and raiding it classic D&D style to hack at those iron deposits and loot chests because iron in the ground is kind of rare right now. And in the Swamp. What you're doing is actually good, assaulting the Swamp from a different direction. That's what I ended up doing accidentally in my personal server because Io wanted to farm the Surtling spawners (which were conveniently located on the coasts of the Swamp) but needed to sail to the Swamp. But the path I originally wanted to take involved crossing a patch of weird sea where the Draugr and Skeletons could walk on but my Karve can easily sail over so it entailed risking the expensive boat. I found a way to build a land bridge - the hoe is seriously an underrated tool - to a different section of the Swamp from the Black Forest I originally jumped from. In the panic of getting attacked by Draugr, skeletons, and blobs, plus the ever-present leeches, while looking for a way to get to the Surtling spawners near the coasts, I stumbled onto one a bit inland but near my land bridge. I carved the farming setup around the Surtling spawner, found a nearby non-cutdown-able tree, and set up a small base with teleporter up that tree. Wonder of wonders, there's a Sunken Crypt near the spawner. I was just in my Troll armor setting all that up. I only used the bronze set to retrieve my stuff after I died in the other side because I ran into a Dragur spawn pit hahaha :D THREE of those piles, together, with the big red version of the blob in the bloody henge they were in. I couldn't bypass it because it was near my original target Surtling spawner and another Sunken Crypt. Plus, it was near the outpost I originally set up on that side. Troll set + sausages + carrot soup + cooked meat, anti-poison pots, minor healing pots, a bronze mace and shield, bow and lots of arrows. You're going to need the arrows for the blobs. And, oh, bring an axe to chop down Ancient Trees. And the hoe. The hoe is your best friend in the swamp. And a torch.
What they could do is incorporate "Peat Bog Iron" in the swamp in a similar way to Tin deposits. Just have little havestable lumps of bog iron ore that you can gather whilst avoiding the Swamp monsters. Can avoid the repeat of the mining mechanic too much and peat bog iron is historically accurate too.
lol 7:30 your chests. placed them in a hurry huh? actually looks good to have them kinda crooked. i seriously am going to do something like it. mine are all straight and looking too sterile.
Can somewhat cheese not being able to take the teleporters with metal. You make a "storage" world where you logout, join that world, then put the metal in the container, go back to your original world take the portal, go back to the storage world and grab your materials and go back to the original world. Takes some time, but some worlds, like mine, the closest swamp takes the entire day and some of just running, then sailing, then running to get to.
FYI you can also put a storage chest next to the portal, go into the chest, walk into the portal while your chest interface is open, and as you enter the portal CTRL+click to grab the ore. Saves you not having to hop around worlds.
@@frappel09 If you dig under and mine out the bottom of the deposit first sometimes the top half just collapses into ores, It saves alot of time of pick durability.
I found out about the underground copper parts a couple days ago, it's still kinda grindy but way better than if it were just what's above ground. Still takes like 5-7 trips to get all of the copper back to base. I'm not taking a cart through the black forest, no way. It's irritating enough to run into a bush in the meadow biomes.
@@Nehji_Hann Smelters can be destroyed with hammer and refund 100% materials. Just take them through a portal next to deposits and smelt bars while you are mining. Forge only need 6 copper to setup and kilns can be making coal at home base. just use portal to bring coal to the smelters. Once bars are crafted into items they can go through portal.

Summon the deer boss and it use to deforest the entire forests, and even lure it into other areas of the map or world maybe. You can't really get it into places it shouldn't but doesn't hurt trying.
your aims are low my fellow peasant xD
SAME BUT COPPER
You can also find the stones in burial chambers dont know if this is new or not.
Man I hope more ppl subscribe to your channel, you're so close to 100k my dude.
I had 2 crypts spawn right beside eachother, came out with ~180 iron from clearing both lol
seed?
Awsome vid firespark
I just got the bronze age. I prefer upgrading all my gear for the next phase. I found that the bronze age workbench and forge upgrades are need my house to be bigger, now the stone workbench and upgrades need even more room. Good thing I have a meadow where my main house is.
Now I am in the iron/silver age. The iron sledge hammer is AWESOME! Theres a tutorial on how to get it.
Using the wishbone in the swamp will alert you to muddy scrap below the surface so you don't have to go in the crypts all the time, especially if they don't spawn a lot
But the amount is so much less, and you don't have the wishbone until after you've beaten the swamp boss.
Supposedly you need to find Silver, which can only be found after you beat the giant slime boss.
you need wishbone to find silver nodes under the soil... all wolf armour needs silver some also need fangs
@@SEIGE381 and the cloak needs at least one wolf head trophy.
OH SLIMES HIT HARD
I usually build a workbench outside each crypt so I can quickly run out and repair the pickaxes and I have a boat to store more metal, with the boat you can bypass running through the dangerous and slow swamp and sail back to base easily, at least that's what I can do with my seed.
Finally got some iron to main base! God It takes Soo much iron to gear up!
Great video!
When fighting the elder I didn't notice there was a greydwarf spawn on a hill right beside the Elder spawn. Was not too fun. Haha
yeah, when i fought it a bloody troll turned up!! it was a close fight but I did it :)
Just build camp fires all around the alter and or you can dig under the alter where he can't hit you
I hate the Swamps, I burn through arrows like never before.
The nest responds, and also you can get the seed from the nest. Happy trails.
They have never respawned for me and I have tested the heck out of it. I have had others report that theirs also did not respawn. But yes you do get a seed from it.
You can teleport surtle cores and nails but not ores and bars, so you have to relocate the forge to every black forest base you can find and ignore all swamps that don't have a black forest biome.
...or spend some sailing time. The big boat can carry 18x30 ore
hey firespark81 - glad to see youre covering this game - been watching you since conan !! can i get your map seed for this video , your starting area was soooo much better than mine :( , and i didnt see it under show more up top. thanx!
lol nevermind just found it in another comment , keep up the good work !!
Slimes poison you AND WILL JUMP ON BOATS. their fast on water
So deadly LOL
Slimes have surprisingly good mobility and can be dangerous if they sneak up on you. They also seem to be harder to hit with arrows for some reason. Maybe that have an innate dodge of some kind?
@@graham1034 nah I don't think they have a dodge. You can one-shot them with frost arrows tho! Biggest damage against bone mass as well. But I feel slime are easy unless they are with draugars or in any medium size group
So man the truth how good is the game, if you say you recomended i will give it a go
All I'm going to say is this. I was playing on stream the other day and was starving but I could not stop playing it to go make food. Every time I start playing it I have a hard time turning it off.
@@Firespark81 True AF. I had so much work that I put off the first day I played and played for 7 hours straight.
@@Firespark81 that sounds like a recomendation i will give it a go xD
I made the mistake of beaching my boat in the swamp and got swarmed by skellies and draugr. A 2 star draugr archer actually shot out my boat from under me while i was trying to escape, when I went back after dying all my boat materials were under the water just out of reach
RIP :(
If you make a raft or if they aren't too far off shore, you can actually jump off land/raft and fall just deep enough in the water to grab them if you are quick.
the game was released 2 febuary, how did you do all this in 4 days?
Good guide, thank you!
For those of you who haven't played, you can get seeds from grey dwarf brutes at night also, they will try to break your base.
Cool, great video as always
Finding the elder was hard for me because I only found it thru clearing a dungeon or burial grounds
That’s how everyone finds it I’m pretty sure
I was waiting to kill the Elder so Im not spoiled. Now I know what to do with the key and what to look for. Thanks
Just find another elder spanner 😂
Nice vid, are you aware of how to unlock the blast furnace? I can’t progress without it and no one has covered how to
Will cover it as soon as I get to that point. I'm a little behind because UA-cam takes time.
are there no such thing as iron veins?
LMao I found plains before swamp 🤣
My swamp and even my elder is like 20min sailing xD away
@Patient 0 You can place a chest in youre portal, then drop iron into chest and run with opend inventory into portal and pick iron back into invi xD
can u tell plz, iron dont respawn agin in crypt? i need always fine new crypt for new iron?
Yes you need to find new crypts
I managed to find a Muddy Scrap Pile on a slope at the edge of a swamp. only found the 1 so far...
Does the stonecutter allow you repair stone? Some of my bases are old castles but need some love. I might risk elder to get the stonecutter. 😉
lol 7:30 your chests. placed them in a hurry huh? actually looks good to have them kinda crooked. i seriously am going to do something like it. mine are all straight and looking too sterile.
thanks for this video is was very helpful! by any chance do you know the key to get items from chests into your inventory faster?
do you mean ctrl+click?
And shift+click let’s you split stacks.
or use the "Take all"-button in the top left of the chest window

Been talking to some people and I don't think that is a thing. May have been at one time but I don't think it is any more.
Is the copper mining super grindy to others? I have to completely dig around the copper vein or else it will despawn if it’s below the ground level
just keep digging down, it doesn't despawn just looks like mud/grass until you dig more
@@85UKDan ah lol well... that’s embarrassing. 🤦♂️ thank you very much
@@frappel09 If you dig under and mine out the bottom of the deposit first sometimes the top half just collapses into ores, It saves alot of time of pick durability.
Wait does that mean u have to fight elders over and over again to get the keys and more iron?
No, once you get the key you can open all the crypts you like. Its not consumed on use.

Or you're just incredibly unlucky with the seed you get. My seed the closest swamp was over 20 minutes walking distance, took over an hour to explore fully and only had ONE crypt which I found after fully exploring the swamp. If I hadn't been convinced that the crypts actually existed, I would have just assumed they weren't out in this stage of the game yet. XD (On a side note, my singular crypt only had enough for 14 iron bars)
@@fuzzyface4515 that has literally nothing to do with what I said.
Cool game😎😍
What seed are you playing on in this video? I really like the island you're on.
thanks man!
Drink every time Firespark says "iron" XD
Do it!
Tip: Don't try to farm irons too much, just enough to make a full set of iron amor level 1 and an iron mace + shield can help you beat the 3rd boss, after that you can go farm silvers and make silver armors which is way stronger
Ahm no, you need iron for forge upgrades and other base stuff, not only armor.
What's too much? I farmed 9 crypts for 482 iron ingots yesterday and ended up with 2 iron ingots after getting most of my upgrades/gear
How do you get your signs to show up with the black letters? When I type something on my sign its just blank and has white letters when I mouse over and the Use menu shows.
Make sure your sign is facing the correct way (it should have 3 black dots)

Yeah, there are forge improvements that require bronze, you are meant to have them so you can reinforce your armor.
So, as of right now, you get iron in a crypt. Once the crypt is cleared, then what? Kill the second boss for another key and hope to find another crypt for more iron or what?
no you need to find another crypt and open it using the same key
How did you get the map markers to work? I tried and tried and couldn’t get any to place
Double click (left click), right click to remove
Alert alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fellow vikings.... you can also find muddy iron nodes in the side of the mountain in the swamp area

I found the swamp after killing the second boss.... I died a lot. Maybe consider upgrading armor and having good food?
yes you need food buff it got posion res
Make poison resistant mead with cauldron to combat slime
I do see why they gave me stone cutting abilities but I have to defeating the second boss judging by what's wandering around the medals at night now
i played 4 different maps and all the time the swamp was not far away from the elder boss
I've only played through once, but this is the case for me too
Dude use a cart to drag metals around or if your lucky enough to be near the water use your boat.
I use 2 different worlds, I setup small mining camps mine the ore and then bring everything to the 2nd world at my base, dump it all and go back tare down the camp and more onto the next ore pocket.

Yeah f you zoom out on map we had to travel half the distance from center to north by boat to find swamp and the swamps we found so far are tiny and have no dungeons. You can find muddy scrap in the outside too so, also if u delete furnace u get ur materials back so just take enough materials to build a blacksmith&portal when u go looking so u can craft using the iron pretty ez

Is this playable on a server with multiple people? Or only with 1 player being the host?
I believe it goes up to 10 with a player being the host, there’s an option for a community server but unsure what that does
You can do both. Gportal has servers with 10 players max. Just a note that even in a community server, if you play together in a clan, you need everyone to sleep in a bed to 'push' forward the time. There's no need to game sleep but it's there as a mechanic. It helps since you can skip night time where it's really dangerous since you can get constantly harassed by greylings (the shaman and the blue eyed ones)
Do you need need a key for each crypt or is one key reusable to open many crypts?
Luckily, it's reusable. Keep it with you, and you can open as many crypts as you can find
That's good to know, thanks!
