- There are two living persons who are always prayed for by name during Holy Mass: The present pope and the local bishop. This week On the Road to Emmaus, Bishop Earl Boyea explains the necessity of praying for the local bishop using, he suggests, the prayer for a bishop contained within the Roman Missal. The text below. He also introduces a reflection upon this week's challenge featuring Bishop Jerry Vincke of Salina in Kansas who was previously a priest of the Diocese of Lansing. Enjoy!
Prayer for a bishop from the Roman Missal:
O God, eternal shepherd of the faithful,
who tend your Church in countless ways
and rule over her in love,
grant, we pray, that Earl, your servant,
whom you have set over your people,
may preside in the place of Christ
over the flock whose shepherd he is,
and be faithful as a teacher of doctrine,
a Priest of sacred worship
and as one who serves them by governing.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
I am always so very grateful for the blessing of Bishop Boyea and the great love he pours out to us all in this diocese. He has undertaken many great initiatives and I for one have grown from them. I have said to siblings in other places "We have this great bishop who is really for and about our diocese and does so many cool things!" I am grateful to God for him and Bishoo Vinke too and will make it my honor to be more mindful to be praying daily for them and all pur great priests!

How many priests have been made bishop from the Lansing Diocese under the reign of Bishop Boyea 3-4. We as a family pray daily for our Bishop and all Bishop 's that they be Holy and good shepherds, leading us in truth.
