I drank for 23 years! : How to find out why you drink

  • I drank alcohol for 23 years to escape who I was, where I came from, and my childhood. I always felt a sense of abandonment and rejection, even through my adulthood. The quickest release from my emotional dysfunction was alcohol! My Alcoholism was fueled by false feelings I had about myself and a product of the experiences I had in childhood. I was only able to get sober for good when I dealt with those feelings and acknowledged that the experiences in my childhood were exactly that. If you are suffering from Alcoholism or addiction, regardless of how your upbringing was and where you came from .. You can get sober and learn to live a life that is meaningful and fulfilling.

    Thanks so much for your channel. I am struggling as you were a year ago - I am looking for professional help but don't yet know where to go. Really appreciate your stories! Well done on your recovery and I so appreciate finding your channel.

      I appreciate you watching it, and I'm happy you're able to connect with the journey! The starting place is always the desire to stop, and you are there. As for professional help, in the description of most of the videos I leave links for the VA if you're a veteran of the armed forces, links for Alcoholics Anonymous, Addiction Recovery Hotlines, and suicide prevention. The Addiction Recovery Hotline will be able to help locate psychological and therapeutic professionals near you and treatment facilities. The Alcoholics Anonymous US and global web link is a fantastic starting place to find meetings near you where you can talk to people like us who have been where you are and those who are going through it now. We recover together and you are not alone! ODAAT 💯

    Sometimes I drink when I'm just flat out bored. But the idea of drinking is becoming less and less appealing.

      Good morning, my friend! I hope things are going well. This was, in fact, true in my case. Your journey may not be the same as mine or include any of the same obstacles. However, through the experiences of whatever your story is, there is growth and wisdom. I always say this, but it's absolutely true: We are here for each other and we can recover together! Thank you for your comments and insights. ODAAT

    Thank you for sharing. This is very true and very important on the journey of recovery. After quitting you still have to sit with the underlying issues.

    The only answer I can come up with why I drink so much and so often is because I like it... I have no idea what that means

      I did too..for me that was a thought that kept me drinking and from getting help. You may not be an alcoholic, but if you are, hopefully, something here is helpful. Have a fantastic day 😀

      My best trait? At the minute determination as I’m not giving up giving up 👍
      How did you get through the first 24? My sleep is completely non existent….

    • @1Sober2Another
      @1Sober2Another  11 місяців тому +1

      @davros2023 Sleep will come with time.. it took quite a while for me to be able to sleep wholly, some impart to my PTSD.. most because my brain and body hadn't learned how to cope without the alcohol. I get through each 24 by being grateful to have it.. I know that seems silly, but it's absolutely true.

    Thank you for sharing and the support! What if you been in a relationship with a narcissist for over 12 years and you have kids with her and when you realized that you had to leave you are more stuck than ever because you want to be with your kids but she are still calling the shots and you have no where to go? How can I heal? I need to find a way but I dont see any.

    • @1Sober2Another
      @1Sober2Another  11 місяців тому +1

      It is even more critical for you to do what you have to take care of yourself first, and then you will be able to be there for the kids without having to self-destruct from the emotional and verbal assaults of a narcissistic person! The more you tolerate and feed into their behavior, the worse yours will become. I imagine you have resentments built up, and it's only a matter of time. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not giving you advice to follow.. just something to think about. Hopefully, this is helpful, my friend.
