I remember being in the University bar and the fire alarm went off. Naturally, we ignored it, right up until the firemen came in and politely asked us to evacuate. 😄

My Mum was once in Morrisons once when the fire alarm went off and this is literally a perfect description of what happened, except it was a false alarm

This ! It happened in university - building actually had a fire and we didn’t leave until security came and told us to evacuate

My Primary school fire alarm sounded like a Chicago tornado warning. Everyone had a heart attack XD

Here in America everyone leaves because the alarms are normally around 100 decibels. In England they make that alternating tone that’s annoying but not loud. In America they make screeching yelps and strobe lights flash. (Commenting this as I’m standing outside of my school due to a fire alarm)

The smoke alarms in our house will nearly shatter glass. One fine evening, the wife scorched something in the oven, and we opened the doors and took the poor shivering dog outside (he was terrified). What was hilarious was the next time the wife was cooking in the kitchen, the dog ran for the door. Burnt offerings, anyone?

I heard a fire alarm once, and thought I was getting fired.

American here: something I always thought was funny as a child:
When I would hear the alarm, walk to the door, and then a teacher would correct me like, “no no we need to make a line please and follow suit.” I thought they had gone mental.

    • @LadyAnuB
      @LadyAnuB Рік тому +1

Nope, this is not mental. It helps keep your class calm and organized and allows for the teacher to account for you when you arrive at your class' evacuation spot.

I have a GENT Viglion fire alarm panel/system snd and system test 1 will hopefully come out in the following week I don't now but stay tuned also in the UK where I live when the fire alarm goes off I immediately walk to the nearest exit and exit the building

You can do a second or two of looking around when a fire alarm goes off but then GET YOUR ASS OUT OF THE BUILDING, aka, evacuate the building, following the evacuation signage to the nearest exit. I've had to evacuate due to a fire alarm @ 2 am in the morning. I've even heard a fire alarm over the radio. (It was Talk of the Nation when it was on the air and they were in the field doing the show and they didn't evacuate everybody. Nothing like a chewing out from firefighters to evacuate the building.)
I've also had the fire alarm go off for my building for an actual fire 3 condos down from me. I did evacuate but then I did a cursory investigation to find out what was going on and noticed the smoke from this condo which was coming out the front and back.

This... Explains exactly why I don't move when mine goes off. I'm not suicidal, I'm just having a deeply ingrained cellular memory (born stateside, but apparently still very much a Brit).

When I was in my first university accommodation, there were a couple of fire alarms that happened fairly early in the morning. I volunteer at a charity shop on Saturdays and would have a shower early in the morning. I was terrified that there would be a fire alarm while I was in the shower.

Meanwhile in New Zealand teachers at school be like “leave what you are doing and quickly AND calmly follow me out onto the field(what some might call a pitch). Then we’re told to line up in order of the attendance roll.

Maybe it's my ADHD or one of my various anxiety disorders, but when a fire alarm starts--internally--it's like a starters pistol going off and I _need_ to leave...ASAP.
It's pretty excessive considering I've never been present when an actual fire has happened; they've all, thankfully, been false/test alarms 🤷‍♀😬

This is not how we do it. As soon as we here a fire alarm 🚨 we quickly evacuate and then go to our assembly point to be registered
