Not only is that not the northernmost hotel in the world, it's not even the northermost hotel on Svalbard. Grab yourself a room at the Hotel Pyramiden next time you're on Svalbard.
Hi from S.E/Stockholm !! Is that wearing outdoor shoes forbidden all over Svalbard ? Why is it even in malls that only socks are allowed !?
trömm sö knött tösmöh -.- 1´10 double ´jäckett ^??^
tröss mö´ ´cözmöz ^??^
This reminds me: To anyone travelling to Scandinavia (or Svalbard), never buy water, you can drink excellent water straight from the tap everywhere.
Agree
And Norwegians still buy water even though we have places all over the country where you refill your bottle with fresh filtered water go figure.
All water is the same on Svalbard glacier water
You can still buy it wether it comes out of the taps or not
Also Svalbard is part of Scandinavia as its Norwegian territory
@@thatnorwegianguy1986
Yeah people buy water if they are out and about and forgot their water bottle at home.
This is my absolute #1 bucket list trip! I know I'll never be able to go, but I am so glad that you took us with you! Thanks again 😊
its not expensive as you can see in the video!
I may give it a try one day. Just looks like a normal everyday Raddison in the UK.
Only think thats different to the uk one are the polar bears and taking off of the shoes
@@WalkWithMeTim I wish it was about the cost. Unfortunately, I made some dumb decisions and ended up with a couple of felony convictions a few decades ago. Those are the things you don't think ahead about when doing stupid crap. Lol. A lot of countries won't allow felons a visa, and since the North Pole isn't in any particular country, looks like I'm gonna have to live vicariously. Trust me I did some research to try to find a loophole
I went in my wheelchair in September. Manchester to Oslo, Oslo to Longyearbyen. Integrating frontier Town with interesting access
Easier for you than someone like me from Australia
Putting milk in with the teabag still in the cup? Absolute madman.
I was thinking the same thing. He's having a little tea with his milk. 😂
It always cracks me up how particular Brits are about their teas. I personally like mine iced and sweet!
Eating a burger with a knife and fork too. Simply not good enough.
True englishman!
@@joannem6878really British thing to do!
In music there is a category "easy listening" , Tims channel is the video version "easy viewing" to me. Love it.
lol
Wow, I loved that. I do prefer the snowy places to the hot ones ❄️
Me too!!!
I worked at the airport in Svalbard for two months - it was a super fun experience living in Svalbard. It is a special place with lots of history and interesting knicks and knacks. This video was a fun throwback 🫶🏼
My absolute dream trip, I even had it booked until covid cancelled the trip, so thanks for finally getting me here! Only 10 mins in so far but loving it mate!
Thanks Steve
I'm a subscriber with you on YT too! Love your travel vlogs. I've just suggested to Tim that you two should do a collaboration together at some point, the intrepid explorers you both are! Would be great to see Tim come up to Scotland so you could show him around! Just a thought!
Should have kept it dude you are missing out
Get yourself there asap
Hi Tim, love your videos! What I love most when watching your content is that you’re very relatable, and don’t exaggerate everything, or too high energy like a lot of other youtubers, and you’re so easy to watch. Me and my fiancée love watching your videos, and it’s pretty obvious that your channels going to be huge one day, just keep being you.
Wow, thank you!
Funny I more or less said the same thing before I read your comment! I totally agree!
One day you'll need to land and take off during a blizzard and minus 30° f from Minneapolis St. Paul International.
It's an everyday thing; just as it is in the Scandinavian countries.
I visited Longyearbyen/Svalbard earlier this year. It was absolutely amazing. I loved my 3 days stay there.
Interesting experience. Landing on a snowy runway! 🌨🌨❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
Hats off to the pilot, for landing that plane like a boss 👏 🙌 👍🏼 😎
I will probably never make it to Svalbard, but I'm so fascinated by the remote-yet-warm feel of the town at night. What a modern miracle that I can get an idea of the feeling through your videos! Thanks for taking us with you, Tim.
So glad I started watching you back in March! Got to be honest this year and particularly the last 3 months have been tough for me but your videos never fail to make me smile and it’s great to see all these places I would perhaps never usually see thanks to you. Hope you, Gaby, Holly and Thumps have a great Christmas 🎄☃️
Hope all is OK, I appreciate the support
I know the feeling, travel videos always seem to help with those kinda issues
❤❤❤
Another very interesting video thanks amazing to see places that you probably will never see in person glad you didn’t encounter any real polar bears, hope you all have wonderful Xmas❤️👍🏻
I absolutely hate the cold but this place looks so intriguing I want to go here!
You may want to go during the warmer months. Like June, july, and August. But you will need to book accomodations in advance. I bet the hotels and other rooms fill up quickly in the summer.
I hate the cold as well but I've found that I actually dont mind the cold and snow when it's at my destination and not at my home so I'm definitely doing this as well!
150 quid for the room, breakfast, hot tub and sauna? That's hugely reasonable. Getting there looks a bit daunting but definitely worth it.
I think there are easier ways to get there than the route Tim took. I went London Heathrow to Oslo, then Oslo to Longyearbyen (though like for Tim the flight stopped in Tromso). Quite possible in a day, I think it was about 6 or 7 hours end to end.
Hotels cost more than £150 on Svalbard especially in Radisson blu
Trust me I know this as I holiday there every year
@@tshelby5212no they don't. I've just checked, a week in November is currently 1123€ so 160€ per night (£137).
Room looks very cosy indeed, and brekkie looks alright!
yes breakfast wasn't that great
Wonderful to see this again. I went there in 2018 and stayed in the same hotel. The rooms, bar and breakfast room look the same, but the reception looks like it has been refurbished. The buildings were actually built for the Lillehammer Winter olympics in 1994 and moved here to make this hotel after the games. I was quite surprised when I stayed there that if you book a room in the suites (I didn't) they were actually in a separate building opposite so you had to go outside to get to the hotel facilities which I thought was odd.
Your journey seemed convoluted. When I did it you could do it both ways in a day which is what I did. I did Heathrow to Oslo then Oslo to Longyearbyen (both on SAS) and the same in reverse. Like on your trip the flight stopped in Tromso on the way too. The reason for this is Svalbard is actually outside Schengen (in fact I think technically there is no immigration there at all and anyone can go there without even a passport, if you can find a way to get there). Hence you have to go through customs at Tromso to leave Norway again I believe.
As to the no gun sign in the shop, in Svalbard it is a legal requirement to have a gun with you (and various other equipment such as a locator beacon) if you go outside of the towns or at least one person in your party has to (hence tour guides will have a gun if you go on any tours). Hence most residents have guns. The Radisson Blu there used to have a gone cabinet near the shoe racks for that reason, not sure if it still does. The town looks much as I remember it but not sure if that big CoOp was there.
I went in the summer, so had 24 hour daylight, but the snow was still on the tops of the mountains there. I shall be interested in seeing if you go on any excursions. I took a trip to Ny Alesund. I think this is actually the most northerly town in the world and it's where most expeditions to the North Pole set off from. There is a statue of Roald Amundsen there, who set off from there, as well a shop. Though it's mostly a research town. I had to go there by boat (it's about 3 hours each way I seem to remember) because there are no roads, but I think the sea ice would make it impossible in the winter.
Also went Barentsburg and on a walking trip (but that is a Russian settlement, so it may not be possible now) and up to the mountains behind Longyearbyen (even in the summer, crampons and snow shoes required). Didn't see any polar bears though but did see the reindeer wandering in the town as you did , as well as Walruses.
I would love to go back and hope to do so.l I had an amazing time there, it is quite literally like nowhere else on earth. Also the tour guide to Ny Alesund was excellent and very friendly so learnt a lot from her.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It is wonderful to see it there again and to see what it is like in winter!
Thank you for sharing your memories of your visit. Very enlightening.
Thank you for taking us along!! Soo beautiful!!
Just wanted to say I love your narration, it's so professional and smooth sounding!
Thank you! 😊
As a long time watcher of both you and Cecilia Blomdahl it was very surreal to see you in Longyearbyen 😯 The hotel wasn't bad at all. To be honest I would have gone in October or April, that way you get both day and night so you can fully appreciate the stunning scenery as well as the Northern lights ✨ 😊
By the way Tromso is pronounced Trom-ser
Yes and I did reach out to her .. she said and I quote .. I'll pass 😱
@WalkWithMeTim I sent her photos of her cabin which I took from my wildlife cruise in my wheelchair. Totally blanked by her. Sadly.
@@WalkWithMeTim No way 😳 I will see her in a different light now 😡 Oh well, she's obviously nuts, who would miss out on the chance of meeting you!
@@DougPaulley That's a shame Doug 😔
@@MargaretUK Me too. What a fitta!
Why don't you believe in hats or scarfs?
🤔 me thinks are you in Svalbard.. Lots of Northern Lights on show as, Polar Night
Yes that’s where he is if you actually watched the video you’d know that
Hmmm my comment landed here from replying to a community post previous day of seeing Northern lights out of plane window when actual destination was not mentioned.
Yes I watched veido and yes my guess of destination from community page was correct.
Please think before you play keyboard warrior there maybe a reason you are unaware of....
I sat with someone while they died yesterday and life is to short to presume and be petty maybe think before you waste part of your life being snippy for no reason.
I wish you a good day/night/evening
Hi guys,merry Christmas,all of you,all the best 🎅🌲🎅
Awesome, and such a unique place to visit. Thank you for showing us these amazing locations, you've worked so hard, I hope you get to enjoy some time off over the Christmas period x
thanks Lucy
I have to add that we very much enjoy your videos because of your peronality and how respectful you are for all places you stay in or go to. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful wife and son!! Happy Holidays to the world and Peace comes to all!!
3 flights from the UK to get to Tromso ? Nice for the adventure, but there is also a direct Norwegian flight from Gatwick to Tromso in 3.5 hours.
Or is it Trosmo? 😆🤣
You can aslo go from Heathrow to Tromso with 1 stop in Oslo in 5.5 hours or with 1 stop in Helsinko in just under 6 hours... Going to Stockholm to go to Oslo is just crazy
This video popped up on my suggestions, so I watched and I must say, I truly liked it. You're very informative, always good to learn new things and I love to learn about travel and different ways around the world and places. Your speaking voice is calm and good, keeps you listening. I will subscribe to your channel now. Oh and...It looked like the lady at 12:08 had shoes on!! Lol
What a great relaxing trip. Christopher seemed to really enjoy himself. Laughing and smiling.
Oslo always reminds me of Onslow from Keeping up Appearances lol.. great video 👍
Love the hotel room, yes a little more simple probably modules build elsewhere and just put together.
Nice luggage area, Nice big TV, Nice luggage rack, nice little desk, idea idea to embed in the desk, nice chair, nice desk here, very nice comfy chair, nice place to relax, nice little leather tray (very nice!), nice little kettle, really nice suede headboard, nice little bit of historic information, underfloor heating….nice!
😂
did make me laugh Tim - I think you found lots nice about the room!
Love the fact that he did the hugggge hot tub person count! 😂 👌🏼
Ŵhere is your back pack. You didnt have it when you walked. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
Ritz - Shait. Radisson Blue Polar Bear - Cozy. 😂
Amazing. Very interesting. Thanks! Love the polar bear at the breakfast! He looks like he’s been there all night and is hung over….😂😂😂
Was the whole village built within the last 5 years…everything looks so fresh and lovely
love the travel day vlog bits! also this video warmed my heart and gave me hope to hold onto on these cold and dull days. it’s not the daylight that makes somewhere cosy, it’s the whole vibe i guess. keep more wintery travel videos coming
There’s “snow” doubt that the polar bear is their mascot for their football team! 🐻❄️ ⚽️ 😂
Even for me as a Norwegian, this is pretty exotic. I love your vlogs from hotels everywhere, and it makes me want to travel more 🙂 I should definitely take a trip to Svalbard!
Thanks for sharing Tim!
Very Scandinavian for value, lol, would love to see you got Iceland. X❤
I visited Svalbard on a cruise in June 2022, so it was nice to revisit some familiar sights. It’s well worth the effort to get there.
Looks like an amazing trip, Tim. Great hotel as well. This has to be on my bucket list. I don’t think £146 per night is bad with breakfast and jacuzzi etc especially where it is!
Thank you for sharing your trip. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!😊😊😊
Happy holidays!
Hi Tim. I love the cosy feel of the room and the reception area.
What an awesome trip! Thanks for posting this!
yap as I worked for Radisson Blu , they have the same standards of course! England, Uk for sure, Austria, Germany , etc
Thanks for the tour. Really enjoyed it.
Cant wait 😂
Looks like you had such amazing time there Tim with an adventure, really love the sound how the hot tub and the sauna was included in your hotel.
Oh this is one of the places I’d love to go during the Polar night to experience darkness 24/7. Lol
Great video Tim. Thanks for taking the time to share some information on the place, makes it more interesting 👌🏻
I’m so glad you showed the flights, how you get to Svalbard… love it!
I stayed there in end of November 23, booked a standard room (same like yours) but upon check in the hotel upgraded me to superior room. A few minor changes from the standard room..It got nespreso coffee machine and the toilet definitely better. Newly renovated with modern and neat style. Breakfast was amazing and I hope you tried the outdoor hot tub.
It was a very good travel day blog today chilling out and staying in
thanks
Wonderful stuff, I love it when you do these sort of places most of us are very unlikely to ever be able to go to, that hotel looked wonderful as well, the hot tub just topped it off!
I recommend you visit the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. It is a beautiful hotel and a favorite of my family. I recommend a suite with an atrium view room.
Wow never seen a vlog of the most northern hotel in the world I had to Google about polar bears I cannot believe the size of them I'm just saying that reindeer casually going about it's business it was amazing thank you Tim
Omg what an amazing adventure...jealous. thanks for sharing your journeys.. u do inspire
Hi Tim, so good that you share experience from visiting such a cold world´s end. I´d not bother going there but thank to you I can visit it wile sitting in my warm living room. Great thanks!
Love the bag! I almost always travel with just a backpack. It’s not always an option, but it’s so freeing when it is. Such an interesting trip! Thank you for taking us along with you,
WOW Tim that's some commitment mate taking all those flights to get to this hotel €35 euro 😮 lovely place! Would love to visit one day. Until then thanks Tim
That coziness you like is called hygge
just found your channel and I love it. Thank you. I subscribed.
love the vid man, keep it up snowy
Very very nice little trip. thanks 💐💐
Walks into front reception Immediately sees a woman wearing her shoes lol
you don't have to its customary
Tim, your videos take me to places I’ve always wanted to go, but will never have the opportunity. So thank you and stay safe on your journeys.
Really enjoyed that video Tim. Thank you!
Loved this Vlog..darkness all day wow! What an experience Tim.
Excellent video! This is fascinating. I've heard of "polar routes" or the "great circle route" for flights but I have never thought about actually flying close enough to the North Pole and something as every day as hotels there. Happy, safe travels and Happy Holidays!🥂
Good Evening Tim 😊
I LOVE all your vlogs !!!!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this Tim, thanks. Interesting journey/travel day coverage, and then such an interesting and unusual location. Really gave a sense of joining you on the adventure, without having to even leave the sofa! I hope you get some time off from making videos and travelling all over the place over the festive period at least. And maybe then you can take it a bit easier for a while and do some more of your UK hotel videos (my absolute favourites) for a while!🙂
Fab hot tub..great stream..ty for sharing Tim🎉
Enjoying the walk.
Great travel vlog looked amazing 👌
One of my fave videos of yours Tim. I've always been intrigued and wanted to visit. I like that your videos are down to earth and show everything realistically. Anyway, can't wait to watch the next part! X
Wow, thanks!
ONE OF THE MOST COOL VIDEOS I HAVE EVER WATCHED. THANKS A LOT
Loved this. Fascinating place and pretty epic journey too.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Tim, Happy Holidays!
great video Tim, very enjoyable, well done Sir.
Thanks for showing this, I sell trips to Svalbard & they stay at the Radisson Blu hotel, for the summer time though, good to see how it is and in wintertime !
What a majestic place! The Main Street there with all the businesses is so beautiful. Thinking of taking my dad somewhere like this as he’s getting older and we’ve always enjoyed doing guy trips to places. He loves places like Norway, Sweden, Iceland and all those countries. This seems like a solid option!
Cool. Really cool!
Amazing video. It brings back memories of my visit there in November 2022, also during the polar night. The skies were purple at 10am. I also dined at the pub at the Radisson and had a reindeer steak if I remember correctly which was nice. I stayed uptown in the hostel in Nybyen. I would love to be back for the midnight sun.
I would LOVE to visit there, it looks fantastic! the reindeer! what a bucket list place.
Tromso is a beautiful city. During the summer they have the Midnight Sun marathon.
thanks for the tour, very cosy looking pub, love Scandinavian tours, especially wintery ones, not so appealing during the summer season i fear... Love the Winter Scowy locations
WOW! Looks comfortable and fascinating-hot tub, sauna, plush linen, breakfast, and all!
One thing you didn't mention, there is no tax on beer in Spitsbergen so beer is around the same price as the UK. We went there around 0 years ago, from Southampton on the QE2. We ended up at the hotel you stayed in. It's a wonderful place. Thanks for the video, cant wait for the next one.
Loved this! I hope to visit also. SAS is one of my favorite airlines.
I have stayed at the Radison Blue in Hamburg and in Zurich. Both were very pleasant experiences. The rooms were comfy and cozy and the staff were very helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Absolutely fantastic video, but you should be arrested for putting the milk in while the teabag is still in the cup haha
I’m amazed at how nice this town is. Nice looking and well-stocked grocery store, nice restaurants, nice shops. It’s very clean. This is the polar opposite of what you see in Alaska, where it looks grimy.
Watching for the first time. Really very good. Well done. Very informative.
Awesome, thank you!
I’m so happy I’m found your channel. You show the amazing sights and sounds of places I’ll probably never go. Keep doing it 😂❤❤❤
Wow Tim, thank you so much for sharing this with us all! ⭐ Merry Christmas to you and you're family xxx
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too
What a cool place, one for the bucket list!
