I wonder if they’re vessels for the lesser void entities or the absent “dead” gods with red eyes. Maybe they were once black eyed gods that found a way to pull a lurk and cross over the opposite way. Color is important to the lore and irl game developers- there’s never been a red room you can easily stealth through without the assistance of the void. Most generally inhabited by a parasitic pest if not a human that could also be considered as such. The flies create stones out of people just like the void created a stone out of the outsider. Theirs become Red like the eye you encounter in the mines, to transport billie/yourself into the void. Whales might have found a home where the void entities can’t exploit them or they were given their realm by the current mascot of the seeping hunger, so they were welcomed instead of detained like the nest guards or plague walkers. (Perhaps one of the reasons the surfacers were motivated to retrieve the whales as a reminder that the outsider isn’t the absolute source of sanctuary or amnesty they might think he is.) But the surface dwellers might not be so lucky, to be less than used as the observers see fit.
Could the red eyed gods be exiles seeking to steal back the power from the void by inhabiting men and beasts (disease causing organisms included) to search for and exploit everything that receives from the outsider? If they can’t or won’t return to the endless nothing maybe they will build the void up around them by theft until everything has been totally replaced. Fencing in the void they steal around them with every husk and corpse until the outsider is ultimately entombed entirely under the weight of his obsession without hope to return to a place that no longer exists. basically imprisoning him as a new atlas for whatever betrayal they feel has been enacted against them or the “purity” they feel had been corrupted by the outsiders manner or presence.

Had no idea bloodflys have a harmless stage 😮
I find it hard to believe they are that important for farming. And these aren't bees. I think arkane pushing it expecting us to believe they not exterminating such incredibly dangerous creatures

I love the fact that someone still is resitting us with the best game franchise that started over 12 years ago, id suggest a video which are easter eggs. For example if you sign the guest book in boyels estate in the next mission in the lord regents chaimbers theres a letter that admits that they think someone tried to use a sick joke.

Just found your channel! I love these lore videos! Might I suggest doing a couple little mini-series called something like Tales From Dunwall where you cover some of the environmental stories like the lovers turned weepers behind the bridge, and the family who died of plague in an apartment behind Clavering Boulevard. Also I dunno if you've done Dr. Galvani lore yet, but he has quite a bit across the 3 games. Also another Tales From entry covering Karnaca! The folks who killed themselves to avoid dying to bloodflies after the grand guard boarded off their apartment complex, the witch in the apartment overlooking the bay who talks about getting supplies for magic, the woman who turns to black magic to try to revive her dead husband and then kills herself when it doesn't work, the man who became crippled in a mining accident who kinda stalks a woman across the street that comes to the fish market sometimes. There are tons of little mini stories all over the games that make them so special to explore and uncover.
