With a 2y old at home I like to rotate toys instead of buying new ones. When it comes to clothes I only keep essentials and the most loved ones. Everything else will be donated or given away to family and friends directly 😊
I so needed this today. Starting my summer declutter and the “guilt” , the “maybe one day” and the “this was so expensive” are getting in the way. Thanks for the positive energy!
I buy good clothes even new ones from opportunity shops for a few dollars when it's worn out or I am tired of it I toss it out I only spent $3_4 dollars so I can replace it with another item for $3_4 bucks it's interesting what you find in opportunity shops I will give it away to friends we swap items too

We are so rich... this is the real reason of having too much stuff and for needing of declutter... a good thing... that will cause so much bad to our earth...
When decluttering my clothing, knickknacks, books and accessories, I give my things to friends. A couple of times a year we have a "swap" at my house. I get rid of a lot of things, I see my friends enjoying them, and occasionally I get something nice for myself... all free. This has changed my life and my friendships, leading to deeper appreciation for each other, and more fun occasions when no money is exchanged.
I wish I had friends I could trust that way, but the last time a friend gave me things she didn’t want. They were under arm, stains from deodorant, and worn out elastic. I don’t even keep things in that condition. My friends don’t put much money or thought into clothing like I do so it wouldn’t be a good match I’m afraid.. same thing for household items. Their’s are old And not likely anything I would want. As I am redoing my house, I’m a bit particular at the moment.. not everything they have is old, they have a lot of beautiful, newer things, but they won’t get rid of those.
Yes. I find clicking the “like” button really helps me to limit impulse purchases. I let the item “sit” in my mind for a few days. When I go back to review my “likes” if it’s gone, sometimes it’s a relief! If I’m super disappointed I can usually go on the hunt to find it again, especially since I almost exclusively buy used. I also discuss my potential purchases w/ my friends/family there. Hope this helps! Your channel rocks, Christina.
November 22 I decided enough is enough and that I needed to let the fantasy self go. I started posting my unused and unwanted items (clothes, shoes, bags) on second hand platforms. The goal is to have a wardrobe which fits into my life, declutter and use the sale money to pay my debts (these purchases are the reason I got into the debt) So far, I sold 80 items and even managed to pay a big chunk of my debts. Still more to be sold. I learned a lot in this process.
The one-in-one out stopped working for me when I was so detached from things that I would get rid of things and say “okay now I can go shopping and get 7 things” then I started spending more on quality items and now it’s high stress to get rid of things because I love everything which is exactly what you want. To keep what you love and to STOP shopping
So I am in my 60s and finding myself in a little bit of a crisis situation in my mind. I have a house by myself that is four bedrooms and full of treasures from my flight attendant life. I also inherited this house from my parents, so there are memories there also. I am overwhelmed and recently found myself with ADHD. It’s a fun challenge but it’s also a financial problem. I’m having a garage sale and I’m going to binge watch all your videos because I find them inspiring. Just stop by to say thank you so much! XX.
For me, taking digital pictures of "unused & not being enjoyed" sentimental items was a wonderful way to let go of them! Now, I can visit that item any time I want w/o pulling out a box. As well, I asked for a blessing upon the next owner. ♡
Yes, same for me - even for items I end up throwing out. I love to keep a memory and even though I‘ve kind of become a digital horder, imo it‘s still better than becoming an actual horder
The wish list has worked wonders for me!! I prioritize it, so when I go to add something new I can see that there are 15 things ahead of it that I actually want more. It really gives me a LOT of perspective. Eventually I end up removing most things from my wishlist because I realize I didn't want them that bad
For most of my life, I never vacationed, I always said, why go to "X" and have a "memory" when I can have "Y" that I can touch. Years later, I had so much CRAP that I never used and yearned to visit Hawaii, Europe, etc... After stopping buying stuff, I had the money to travel! Europe is awesome, the Bahamas amazing, tons of great locations at home in the USA. I travel, travel, travel because I have the money and I am a more interesting person as a consequence. People literally seek me out and "live through me", it is nice being the person at work, lunch and parties that everyone wants to talk to and I get invited to places by people because they want me around to hear my stories. LOVING having less stuff!
My whole family has pretty much switched to food gifts since once you get established most new stuff either becomes clutter or causes existing stuff to become clutter, while food gifts are fun, used up, and don't require worry about who kept/liked/hated/respects etc the gift and what to do with it if you don't use or like it.
The wishlist is a game-changer. I've been doing it for a few years and can't even tell you how many "must have this now!" items have turned into "things I kinda forgot" and ultimately felt "meh" about ;)
Been watching you for a while, and you're honestly the only minimalism (or intentional living(?)) related channel I need. Your advice is always so grounded in reality, and your openness about your own experiences and struggles makes you so relatable and trustworthy. I'm so happy that you share your tips with us. Whenever I want to declutter, I remember your advice, and I feel like it helps me not make mistakes both with keeping too many items, or getting rid of too much (which might lead to more clutter down the line, with replacing etc...). I like that you don't advocate getting rid of everything that you don't immediately love ("sparks joy"), but encourage storing and such. All in all, thanks a ton for sharing your experiences and knowledge!
In regards to curation, I just had spouse take off the doors to my closet. Was a little anxious after he took them off, but I am so much happier being able to see exactly what I have ( this closet holds my current seasonal clothes). This definitely sparks joy for me now.
Definitly going to ask myself ”what do I want to keep” instead of getting stuck thinking if I should keep or declutter a piece, so smart!! Thanks for a great video as always 😍
it works wonders! i think of it as picking out those items that as soon as the laundry is done, it's the first thing i want to wear again, that kind of energy.
My mom taught me this over time as I started working as a teen. I’m now a little older and I am thankful for everything she’s taught me in organizing and shopping. I go shopping when I need or want something but not impulsively. Like the other day, I went shopping and spent over $100 but, I saved for it. I saved and had enough to buy another want/need of mine. I still need to get rid of some old clothing now that I think about it, but I’m so proud of myself for knowing to save for something like this.
I was going to Australia for 5 months and we agreed on 2 suitcases per person. This include Christmas, new years, and a side trip to NZ. Challenging! While packing, I’d pull out something (of the correct season) and think…nah…maybe…or yes! Then it occurred to me: if I don’t want it for 5 months, why keep it at all??? Came home me to a much emptier closet! 😊
This is such a clever idea as a mental concept as well as a literal one! "If i were going away from home for an entire season and could only bring two suitcases, would I want this piece of clothing with me?"
The last tip is honestly what I live by. The only thing I can think of buying after waiting is my newest perfume; I found myself thinking about it multiple times a day for a week before I finally caved!
100%!! and when you buy something you’ve been thinking about for a while you love it even more when you do buy it, and feel less guilt for spending money!
I have 2-parts wish list. “Nice to have” and “need now/soon”. For example, I have one Mascara and when I start scratching the sides, it goes to wish list but with high priority. But new lipstick that I wanted to try was on a wishlist for over a year, because there were things with higher priority. I do this because I am a high earner, and could buy whatever I wish immediately. But I was not “born this rich” and I do not think would be healthy for me to just buy buy buy because I can. That is not a mindset I want to teach my son.
Perfect time to drop this video. Im starting a minimalist phase and my stuff really brings me anxiety in current state of mental health and I feel like becoming more minimal will help immensely
I am almost 6 years a go started giving away stuffs, and I still do. Wonderful experiences my house bigger than before, easy to clean and I have time for myself more than before I am still watching because makes me more, motivate ❤thanks
The wish list really is a winner, it's amazing how desperately we think we want something, and how quickly we forget about it! Great tips! I definitely find that you think about shopping less if you have hobbies and activities to fill your time. Great video!
For rule 7, I think it really helps to break it down to surfaces or drawers. When I started approaching my decluttering that way, it was so much more manageable. Like, while the washing machine is doing its cycle I will declutter the top of my dresser, etc.
Christina 😂. My husband is the same. I saw a story saying “there’s people who can’t relax when dishes are in the sink, and there’s people who don’t notice the dishes in the sink” - they marry each other
Yes, I agree experiences over things bring so much joy in our home/family. Buy less. Pay less. I like to go to second-hand stores sometimes for cool finds.
My biggest problems are: 1. If I can't see it, I forget about I have it. 2. I hate seeing it aka clutter all around. 3. It's hard for me to get rid of things unless I sell them. Even if I only get a few bucks. I need to feel like it wasn't a complete waste of $. On the path to minimalism is harder than I thought because I'm a visual person. I've definitely stopped shopping so much so now it's the getting rid of stuff. Loved this video. It was inspiring. Thanks !
@@Jasmine-vy8ig yes. I donate quite a bit to a small local shop or a woman's shelter. Unfortunately I don't have a car anymore 😭 because I used to do that as well. Load up the trunk and then make a donation run.

@humancapital5196 I used to do this all the time as a teen. Unfortunately it's been next to impossible to organize something like this as we've gotten older (jobs, husband's, children etc) but I'll definitely bring it up to my girlfriends again 😊
Great timing for this video. I feel primed for a big purge but fully acknowledge that I need to make some changes in the way I spend (and shop). You make it all sound very do-able, which I appreciate! Loved the Jeff cameos too!
Making decluttering a habit is a big game changer. I decluttered and thought I'd done 😂😂😂. When I decluttered more, I initially felt a bit down about it, but now I see that it needs to be a constant in all areas. Thanks for sharing your recent move and the compact storage you have. It is helping motivate me, as my plan is to declutter anything I would not move with me, to make it easier for any future potential moves x
I think "take care of your stuff" is a great tip. It also really helps understand what my stuff is (volume-wise)! I also love your more balanced, realistic approach.
Thank you for this video, I am currently trying to spend less money on clothes for the sake of saving money + the amount i already have is very overwhelming to me (and i still feel like i have nothing to wear). Every other video I watched on this topic never really resonated with me because I could sense that those people don’t really like fashion like I do and it never really mattered to them in the way it matters to me. I was feeling so torn because I didn’t want to give up on this part of myself. Im glad i clicked on your video, because you, just like me, find fashion important and that’s why your tips can actually help me change my habits for the better.
Thank you for all of your help! You intelligently explain the source of clutter and gently help us rectify it in our own capacity. Bravo! And you have a great sense of humor!
I am exactly the same - drawers and doors open, stuff just left - I used to think I just ended up with uptight men but my ADHD diagnosis late in life made me realise I’m normal for an ADHDer and so not alone, thankfully 😂
2:10 living with strict parents.. I can't even get rid of four huge sack of old clothes under my younger brother's bed (it's supposed to be mine too but I've got things on my bed, also it's a bunker bed so..)
Thank you for this video. Some really great info here. I love the idea of "what do I want to keep" and "what sparks fear". I feel inspired and empowered. 👏🖖
When it comes to donating, where it's going is important too! I like to either give items personally someone or if I don't know someone who wants it, I'll donate to a non-profit organization instead something like a goodwill. I feel much better knowing that it's either going to go to someone who needs it for free or at a very low price from a place that is actually trying to make a difference in the community!
Yes it’s really important ! In my area (in Germany) luckily our local biggest second hand store is part of a city card system poor people get with which they can get things for half the price (still it’s quite cheap either way) but it makes me feel good about donating there
@@JK-vc7ie if that’s all you have around you that’s fine. but in my opinion it’s much better to donate to local non profit charities or locally owned thrift shops. goodwill is overcrowded with products that they sell at a high price, and they severely overwork and underpay their employees. it’s just better to support your local economy and community by going through other things than goodwill of you can :)
@@elliemae9884 False. Goodwill is nonprofit. They pay the employees minimum wage or higher for low level work and most of them are troubled people that would have a hard time getting a job. Goodwill is in my community so if you donate them you are supporting you local economy in many ways. Lastly, their prices are not high. Everything you said was wrong. Why are you so misinformed?
@@JK-vc7ie yo chill lol. i never said they were for profit first of all. and second, i said it’s FINE if you only have a goodwill in your community, it’s just that there are better places to donate to if you have the choice. for example, there’s a shop near me that is non profit and is ran entirely on volunteers, and they give loads of goods away for free to people in need. try see if there are any other thrift shops or organizations in your area and look into how they operate. thirdly, goodwill employees do a lot of hard labor. and just because those people may be unable to work elsewhere, that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a better wage and working conditions. again. if you only have goodwill near you that’s okay to donate there. i’m just saying if you have a better option then consider choosing that instead :)
I can agree to all of the rules, but not to the "Avoid back-up clutter"... I think, every household should have a good storage of food and daily care products for a few weeks.
Hehe, my boyfriend is definitely the messy one. I laughed when you showed the nail clippers cuz there’s a set left on our coffee table, as I’m watching this. 😂🤦🏻♀️
I just found your videos and for the first time I feel really hopeful on this journey, I have alot of stuff and it’s difficult to organize myself- your videos are great and very encouraging
Love all of these suggestions and I’ve had some of them in place in some way but I’m inspired to be more focused on them and carry that energy into the new year 🤩❤️🥳
I'm hearing these rules for the first time but the "one in one out" one is actually something I always (tried) to do, without knowing it was a think. That's really cool!
Umm can we talk about that white satin skirt on you?? So gorgeous!! I know dresses and skirts are not in your comfort zone, but from the little bit you've posted on YT while wearing them, I think you look beautiful in both.
I tried out Tru Earth a few years ago, but it gave me contact dermatitis. I'm using Dropps now and am very satisfied! As someone with a dust mite allergy (read: endless laundry, not-so-eco-friendly doctor's orders to use hot water) who lives in an apartment, I'm so envious of your in-unit W/D! Congrats on the new place. Love the emphasis on curation and focusing on reducing inflow to reduce outflow. It's not clothing-related, but I bought Less Litter stainless steel boxes for my cats so I'd stop generating litter-related plastic waste, and I brought food that they'd rejected to a local cat rescue recently so it wasn't languishing in my apartment just in case they suddenly decided they didn't hate it. There are so many ways to pay forward with things we aren't going to use and to reduce waste!
Oh yes, the clutter catcher. I have an old shopper hanging on a hook behind my outerwear so it's out of sight. Getting rid of 7 items in july thanks to this approach. Decluttered 2 lower quality sweatshirts that i never reach for anyway because i like wearing my actually nice ones and some "just in case" items that didn't get used in 3 years.
Lmao ‘you don’t put things away & you leave doors open’ …. My husband says that too esp bout the doors! 😅 Letting go is really hard and lately I’ve been decluttering & nesting! These videos inspire me to let go easier. Thanks!
The laundry sheets are awesome. If everyone was serious about the environment, thats the only packaging should be allowed. No more jugs! Great minimalist gift for anyone!
The wish list thing is so true! Around birthdays, Christmas, etc. I’ll purge my list before sending the link to family. I always laugh at what’s in there. Do I really need this brand-name pan? Am I ever going to use a sleep mask? And don’t even get me started on the lists I’ve made for my kids!
I have been binge watching your videos since UA-cam dropped you into my queue. I love the idea of a wish list. I was that girl you talked about - the shopaholic. I am working out of it but my closet shows me the person I used to be. I have been watching all your videos on decluttering. Thanks for your offerings on UA-cam !!!!🎉🎉🎉😂😊😊😊
I decluttered my closet about 3 years ago and need to once more. The issue is I’ve regretted getting rid of some stuff. I thought “ well, I haven’t worn this in a while” but, since then, I’ve wanted to wear those gone items on multiple occasions 😅. So, what if I get rid of something and then I realize that I actually had use for it once it’s gone?
You can make a purgatory box and if you need something you can grab it out but If you forgot about everything for at least 3 months or so just donate or gift the box … hope this helps 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I have had difficulty furnishing since I moved, even though the apartment is bigger. Now I can better try to focus on what I should save and what I shouldn't. It's so difficult!
I watched your first video of the moving series not knowing me myself would moving in less than a month. A major declutering i guess. Definetely would rewatch your videos while packing ❤
Your channel holds me accountable always and I try to avoid you at all costs.😂 Everytime I think I got rid of enough, I didn't and have to go back. I want to live as sinply as possible but I still find myself having a hard time letting go.
Im stuck on rule #1 I want it all! 😂😂😂 On a serious note> Im actually gonna sell what I can, give the rest away and I have one bin for the valuable stuff I will never get rid of!
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. What I miss a lot in most of the minimalist living videos on UA-cam is people - I mean other people in your family. What about the kids? They love collecting things and making new things, creating and playing, making mess, which is ok to a certain degree. And where is the partner? What is she/he doesn't care about the minimalist ideas at all? He/she can be reasonably ok with cleaning but not liking the idea of having less. Any thoughts? Is minimalist living mostly for those living alone or having families sharing their views (and without young children)?
I paused the video half way through and cleaned a black garbage bag of clothes and jewellery out of my closet. Specifically 2 dresses that were so expensive, never fit right, I wore maybe three times and always felt awkward. Oh and a whole bunch of size 2 short shorts - that era has passed
About the wishlist! I have a credit card that gives you double points on all purchases on the first of each month, so I keep a wishlist all month and revisit it on the first
You say to think about shopping in your favorite store when considering how to organize your closet, but my favorite store is the thrift store and it’s very chaotic, but also very inspiring 😅
Thanks for the motivation Christina! I'm with Jeff. I try to put things back where they belong immediately. Your complexion is beautiful. Glad you're not one the UA-cam "tan girls/women" 😉
Saturday is decutter day. My dog knows that when the big donation bags come out to be filled, she'll be enjoying a ride in the car to the donation center
it wasn't mentioned but I put things away at the back of a closet or cabinet. If I don't miss, look for or pull out that item it most likely means that item is just taking up space and I don't truly care about it.
Love the Jeff cameos! Question- how long do you give yourself for selling your items on Poshmark etc. before you make the decision to donate? Thanks :)
I used a phrase a friend told me about…the Poop Rule! If the item had Poop on it..would you clean it and keep it still? Or is it a toss out? This simple rule clarified what really mattered to me in my wardrobe and items!
Shoutout to Jeff for tolerating my socks! 🧦 Let me know some of your rules that help you own less stuff ❤
I'm at a place where it's one in, 10 out!

I am almost 6 years a go started giving away stuffs, and I still do. Wonderful experiences my house bigger than before, easy to clean and I have time for myself more than before
I am still watching because makes me more, motivate ❤thanks
The wish list really is a winner, it's amazing how desperately we think we want something, and how quickly we forget about it! Great tips! I definitely find that you think about shopping less if you have hobbies and activities to fill your time. Great video!
For rule 7, I think it really helps to break it down to surfaces or drawers. When I started approaching my decluttering that way, it was so much more manageable. Like, while the washing machine is doing its cycle I will declutter the top of my dresser, etc.
If only a single nail clipper out of place was the clutter in my house.
😂😂🙏🙏
Christina 😂. My husband is the same. I saw a story saying “there’s people who can’t relax when dishes are in the sink, and there’s people who don’t notice the dishes in the sink” - they marry each other
😆😆😆 the yins to our yangs
@@Christinamychas I was shocked you’re ‘messy’ are you are sooo put together (not judging messiness!!) I love your channel Christina, it’s great ❤️
Yes, I agree experiences over things bring so much joy in our home/family. Buy less. Pay less. I like to go to second-hand stores sometimes for cool finds.
My biggest problems are:
Thanks !
When I see stuffs for donate. I put in my car always. When I seen out side any donation place I am giving away.❤
@@Jasmine-vy8ig yes. I donate quite a bit to a small local shop or a woman's shelter.
Unfortunately I don't have a car anymore 😭 because I used to do that as well. Load up the trunk and then make a donation run.
I give my things to friends.
I have not until this video heard rule #1 explained this way!!! Totally eye-opening. Thank you!
2:10 living with strict parents.. I can't even get rid of four huge sack of old clothes under my younger brother's bed (it's supposed to be mine too but I've got things on my bed, also it's a bunker bed so..)
I have a really hard time leaving a store empty handed. I like the tip about being more intentional. It will work for me with online shopping as well.
Thank you for this video. Some really great info here. I love the idea of "what do I want to keep" and "what sparks fear". I feel inspired and empowered. 👏🖖
I'm so here for it. I have to donate a lot of things that I own. thank you for this. Perfect timing ❤.
Happy Sunday Myrna!
Christina, excellent video! Shared it with my daughter.
Love seeing Jeff more on the channel!
In my area (in Germany) luckily our local biggest second hand store is part of a city card system poor people get with which they can get things for half the price (still it’s quite cheap either way) but it makes me feel good about donating there
What’s the matter with Goodwill?
No
@@Irori__ please explain why not
I agree.
I love when you make this type of video. My weakness is handbags and their accessories. This is a great reminder that I don't need the latest release.
Hehe, my boyfriend is definitely the messy one. I laughed when you showed the nail clippers cuz there’s a set left on our coffee table, as I’m watching this. 😂🤦🏻♀️
😂😂😂😂😂 ok so it’s not just me
I just found your videos and for the first time I feel really hopeful on this journey, I have alot of stuff and it’s difficult to organize myself- your videos are great and very encouraging
Great one! So simple-keep what you WANT.
“What would they say if I got rid of this?”… that’s a fear I have. Going to try out this one on my current declutter. ❤
This is so relatable and very practical advice. All presented with your lovely calm energy. ❤
The "clutter basket" was an eye opener for me, great idea! Thank you 😊
It’s hilarious to get to see a bit more of your personalities shining through, Jeff pointing at your nail clippers made me laugh out loud
Umm can we talk about that white satin skirt on you?? So gorgeous!! I know dresses and skirts are not in your comfort zone, but from the little bit you've posted on YT while wearing them, I think you look beautiful in both.
Thanks for this. After watching own less videos, I walk around my house and immediately add items to my donate bag♥
Very cute seeing you and Jeff! Reminds me of me (messy though minimalist at heart) and my partner (minimalist).
Great content as always...thanks for the useful & motivating content, Christina! ❤
I like the "clutter-catcher" idea - thanks!
Looking great Christina! I have been following your channel for a long time and still greatly enjoy your content. Wishing you many blessings.
Lmao ‘you don’t put things away & you leave doors open’ …. My husband says that too esp bout the doors! 😅
Letting go is really hard and lately I’ve been decluttering & nesting! These videos inspire me to let go easier. Thanks!
I am here for the wide leg jeans! They look so cute on you.
Thanks for the help and suggestions!
thank you for this video, really helped me out, love your energy!
Great information Christina, big thank you,,, have a blessed day 🙋♀️❤
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Oh and a whole bunch of size 2 short shorts - that era has passed
i learn a lot from your videos!! the 'have a closet full of closet but nothing to wear' really punched me haha
Omg I love the idea of a clutter-catcher!
I don't think I have ever commented on your videos, but they always seem to resonate with me! Thank you for sharing!💗
🥹🥹🥹 so glad you commented ❤️ thank you
I actually use the one in two out rule. It has helped me get so much stuff out of my home that I do not use or need.
I love this 😂
Having less stuff have been a gamechanger for me. For a second time. ❤
Thanks Christina for the great list and all your explanations. Your’re videos really helps. /Marie from Sweden
I love your videos!! 🫶🏼
🥹 thank you so much!
Aww always follow your videos Christina. Their so helpful and chilling. You look really well. Can't wait for your next videos. Chanelle. X
Saturday is decutter day. My dog knows that when the big donation bags come out to be filled, she'll be enjoying a ride in the car to the donation center
Love the idea of focusing on what I want vs. what I don’t want.
Omg that beginning montage is so cute ❤❤❤ you guys are so cute
I like this video very much. Thank you Christina!
really kid tips...I truly need to start using this tips!
Hi Christina, I love the idea of a museum concept for your closet! Thanks for sharing!
it wasn't mentioned but I put things away at the back of a closet or cabinet. If I don't miss, look for or pull out that item it most likely means that item is just taking up space and I don't truly care about it.
I love Tru Earth! We’ve been using the laundry strips for about 2 years now. I’m excited to try the softener strips!
Love the Jeff cameos! Question- how long do you give yourself for selling your items on Poshmark etc. before you make the decision to donate? Thanks :)
Two weeks usually! ❤️
@@Christinamychas Thanks!
I used a phrase a friend told me about…the Poop Rule! If the item had Poop on it..would you clean it and keep it still? Or is it a toss out? This simple rule clarified what really mattered to me in my wardrobe and items!
Ironic that I got an ad for SHEIN before starting this video. 💀 I love your channel and find your content very inspiring!
