    This is from the audacity website about dither:
    If dither is set to "none", then conversions from one bit depth to a lower bit depth will be done by simple rounding.
    If dither is enabled, pseudo random variations are applied to inexact conversions so that the rounding does not always occur in the same direction. The rounded number will be statistically more likely to be converted to the closest value at the lower bit-depth. The closer the sample value is to an exact number, the greater the probability that it will be converted to that number. This has a smoothing effect on converted values, producing a result that sounds closer to the intended audio signal than would occur by simple rounding. At very low amplitude levels, this randomization can be heard as very low level noise, but this can be minimized by shaping the probability curves, and hence the frequency content of the noise.
    Shaped dither (the Audacity default) has a higher peak amplitude than other forms of dither, but the noise is concentrated in the very high frequency range where it is less audible.
    Triangle dither produces a lower peak amplitude of noise than Shaped, but the noise is concentrated less in the higher frequencies. There is marginally less degrading of the sound quality if you apply Triangle dither twice than if you apply Shaped dither twice.
    Rectangle dither produces a similar noise amplitude as Triangle, but with very small amounts of randomization (in the order of +/- 1 bit). The frequency distribution is fairly even, such that it approximates white noise. Unlike the other two forms of dither, rectangle does not add noise to absolute silence.

    Finally made the switch to CW by Bandlab. I was one of the long time hold outs from Sonar Platinum days and Win7. Hopefully, the learning curve will start to level out but have to learn so many things new. So far, I'm having a lot of fun with Cake. Calling is Cakewalk again takes me back to the old days of Twelve Tone Systems and Greg Hendershot. Wow that's been a while.

    Nice video... I really like the export... I think it will help alot of people export faster with different options all in one go instead of in and out and sitting there when you have multiple bounces that need to be done it's a great time saver and don't forget that you can save presets in the export so if you have tags that you like to use you can save it and use it on different projects.. it's so good...😀

    The Cakewalk destruction manual kind of explains the dithering, it's mainly used when mixing down to a lesser quality, such as mp3, or like Mike said "16 bit" wav... The manual does a decent job explaining the difference in the types of dithering also👍

    Hack: An easy way to set the song length for export is to use the Arranger to make one long selection. Also if you're supplying production music for TV etc. then mastering within the project is a must due to the sheer number of track versions needed for deliverables, and subsequent edit requests.

  • @cornbone
    @cornbone 2 роки тому

    i think the export menu is super useful! the only thing i wish is that it had an option to export with things like reverb tails and delays included in the project length, cause i find it kind of difficult to get cakewalk to export empty regions that are still generating sound. i also saw that FL Studio has an option to "wrap" reverb tails from the end to the beginning of a track so that it loops perfectly and i think that would be really cool to add. does anyone know if there's a way to do that currently in cakewalk? its a really interesting feature to me.

      This was a real aggravation for me as I produce TV and radio commercials and found that my 60 second spots were being exported with an additional 90 seconds of silence at the end. The solution? There was an automation node that somehow found its way into the track 90 seconds after the commercial ended. Deleting that single node solved the problem.
