  • Some helpful tips 👇🏼
    🌿 alocasias contain calcium oxalate crystals so wear gloves 🧤 when handling as some people can be sensitive to them
    🌿 corms have a top and bottom, make sure the top is up where the growth will emerge
    🌿 not all corms are the same, not all will grow and not all will grow at the same pace
    🌿 keep the fluval moist, I top mine off 2 x a week
    🌿 after you have a leaf or 2 and a good root system you can transfer to your growing substrate
    🌿 make sure they’re kept warm + humid and they’re under a grow light to have the most success
    Happy growing ☺️🫶🏻

    This is the longest month ever! Maybe if I stop looking for growth every 30 mins, it wouldn't feel so long😂

      for most plants, once their roots grow roots on them, secondary roots that are an inch or so long, it’s rooted enough. But you actually dont have to as long as you fertilize it

    Does anyone know why my corms would get moldy while trying to root/grow in fluval? I have a lot of issues with propagations molding and dying as well in water and sphagnum moss. Is it due to no air flow while being covered? Should I put holes in my plastic containers and cups?
    Thanks!!!

      i’ve only had problem with a corm molding and dying once, basically just have it as normal covered with no holes for humidity, but like once a day let it air out for an hour (so give it fresh air for an hour) and that helps a bit. i’ve personally never tried fluval but this is how it works for me with a little bit of water

    Where do you get the corms from? (Scared to ask, but I really don’t know)

      From the alocasias I have. I find them when repotting. They grow off the roots usually under the soil 😊

    • @islandsicedtea
      @islandsicedtea 5 місяців тому

      if you have it in a non-soil medium like her, you keep it mostly full. Corms are small and delicate with no plant to store moisture in, so you want to keep it moist

    I accidentally broke my baby alocasia off of its corm when i was potting it up 😭 It only has two tiny leaves, it does have some roots though, will it still survive?

    Please drop the link of which fluval you use? Is it in your page product store?

      This is a late reply but petco sells it and I think petsmart too. It’s in the aquarium section. I learned that it is not cheap… so I’m very conservative. I mix fluval stratum and perlite together and works really good.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому +1

      I fill it up to the top but not so it's soupy looking lol but once it gets about halfway or so I'll fill up again.
