I felt Matt threw the church under the bus. He said Catholics want Jordan to convert so that it makes us feel better about what we believe. I don't need anyone to convert in order for me to be Catholic.
When Cameron Bertuzzi announced he was going to convert a lot of Catholics were super excited and did a lot of silly things, like messaging his wife on social media. Matt is good friends with Cameron and I think he learned a hard lesson with what happened. Cameron completely shut down talking about it and it caused problems in his marriage. I think because of Tammy’s joining the church it’s a very similar thing with JP…Matt was not going to come across pushy. If a someone joins us in our faith it’s always a joy, their level of fame is irrelevant…but there are a lot of people online that comment or make videos and apply a lot of unnecessary pressure and focus on “big names” joining the Church. Nobody does that to everyday converts…I think Matt is right that some, not all, see it as a win for the “team” I don’t believe Matt was trying to throw the church under the bus, I think he is just trying to understand why some people act this way and maybe soften JPs irritation at the same time. Just my thoughts, I may be wrong but offering a different view of a maybe bigger picture…God Bless ✝️🕊️🙏🏼
@@Dostoevskys_Quill If that was Matt's intent it was said unartfully. It implied our faith is so weak, we need smart converts for us to believe it. But I agree, don't ask him per se about converting.
@@christinereich6050 I respect your opinion, to me though if he had said all Catholics I would have maybe taken it as an offence. The notion that Christianity is “true” because it is useful, which Jordan espouses and Matt appears to flirt with, is what led me originally to atheism. A bunch of smart people explaining how various things were metaphorically true, more true than true, etc. It’s true because it’s true, not because it’s useful. It’s important not to get confused about this.
@@MeanBeanComedyyes but using that as a justification just invites people to point out that something not being overtly or demonstrably wrong at first glance doesn't make it true. It's a huge lack of discernment and they pick up on that
Peterson implies that Christ has not earned His bread and that He is capable of stupidity, which the devil did not believe nor seriously attempt to tempt Christ in that way. Rather, the doctors teach that he was playing off of Christs awareness of His own justice and its merits. Peterson does not have the true faith and seems not to believe in Christs divinity. You all ought to push back at his presumptuous interpretations of Scripture without any adherence to Sacred Tradition. I am always disappointed at that lack of wariness with Peterson.
Matt said in the AMA they released after the interview that he was playing the part of the athiestic skeptic. So if he sounded like he was doubting his faith that was likely intentional for the interview

I think eating has deep spiritual metaphoric living meaning. That before it was relegated to sustaining fallen flesh it was an exchange based in Love. Hence the first food we get is the bossom of our mother in total love. We start from day one consuming love. There is a place where food and love are one in the same. Yes we eat in heaven. With our mouths eyes head heart...our total being consuming and being consumed by love itself.
And I think October 7th and the JQ has a lot to do with the people struggling with the Catholic faith. Even I'm kind of going through that now myself. But in the Christian walk we all have periods of doubt
It’s because the Church is filled with mass confusion. Try watching Fr. James Mawdsley on Scripture and Tradition for a clearer explanation on predominantly misunderstood topics.
I totally agree! He is just trying to get him to open up about faith without trying to pin him down, I think he seen what happened with Cameron B and tread carefully to not push. ✝️
In the Jewish Talmud it speaks of the heavenly manna ground by the angels in heaven which comes down to the righteous on earth. For some ancient Jews the manna was bread from the beginning of the world before the fall of Adam and Eve. Existing on high in heaven before the entry of sin and death into human history. See Targum pseduo-jonathan on exodus. Brant pitre covers this in his book Jesus and the Jewish roots of the Eucharist.
The Anthony in black face maybe the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve actually been told by people that it’s not taking the Lord’s name in vain when someone says the blasphemy that begins with G because they said that’s not our blessed God’s actual name. That’s how irreverent/impious these people are. How quickly they are to make excuses for their behavior.
Speaking on the manner in which we ask for things or unanswered prayers causing a loss of faith and God not being our butler to serve us at our leisure, this is what I love about the apophatic theology emphasis of the Byzantine Churches. My priest said to me once, paraphrasing a Desert Father, that atheism is the natural conclusion of someone who has incorrectly defined God, and THAT God has failed them. If your belief in God is that he is your supernatural errand boy, here to grant you your wishes, that false God will fail you. And it will be easy to dispense of such a superficial "god."
I dont think Matt is struggling in his faith as in the core truths- I think he is struggling with feelings of impotency in the face of the things happening in and outside of the church and perhaps anger or disappointment with both the Churvh and perhaps even God. That’s a different thing because you can’t have that feeling if you don’t believe. The other thing I think he is disappointed in himself and perhaps still struggles with social media or tech addiction and that makes him feel bad about himself. Matt has been a professional Catholic his entire adult life, I don’t know exactly what that’s like but do know your professional identity can sometimes cause you to take things on or expect things of yourself you wouldn’t put on another person.
Ponder this. God is leading JP to where he best serves Him. If he can convert more without total conversion himself, why would we question God's wisdom? Have faith.

Because he kinda is. At least, he's our closest thing to a mainstream prophet. He's just not a Christian.
