Heat Pump Outdoor Fan Not Coming On EP171

In this episode while doing a preventative maintenance I came across this Trane heat pump and noticed the outdoor fan was not running while the compressor was indeed running. I confirmed it wasn't in defrost mode. There could be multiple reasons the fan motor doesn't come on so I'll have to make sure to pin point the problem. I'll show you my process of fining the problem.

First things first = try to spin the fan with a screwdriver poking through the top grill. if it does not spin - You Have Your answer pretty quick !!! Good video !

It's normally closed due to the defrost board going into defrost or not, it'll open the contact and stop the fan when defrost has been initiated. That's a Trane and Trane likes to use demand defrost. It's looking for a differential between coil temp and outdoor ambient.
