It IS a shame they apparently skipped over left 4 dead. It was a milestone and masterpiece.
Especially for 4-Player Co-op, online versus and minor level randomization. Whilst it didn't invent the ideas of either, it really refined and brought them to the forefront and a lot of games afterwards followed suit . Small things compared to the big players but the ripples are still felt far and wide. A small passing comment about L4D and L4D2 would have been nice.
yeah, Wasted Potential for the movie, L4d itself can make it's topic for a hour or 2
True, but they covered so much. Maybe we will get a part 2, lol.
I'm guessing Serious Sam was skipped?
As someone who can plow through a 10 hour video essay about iCarly.
You had me at the runtime
Is that an actual video essay you watched? If so, link?
@@julianobarbisan4193 quinton reviews. cant miss it. thank me later
I'm pretty sure they're referencing Quinton Reviews's video series
@@EnvyOmicron I just want to thank you for introducing me to one of my favorite videos ever
Right? Between that and Tim Roger's stuff, Billiam talking about scooby doo and Lost, I can handle a 4 hour doc about one of my favorite topics. Especially if it's got interviews with my boy Romero.
I have dozens of hours in Godus. You should’ve seen the slow realization of misery dawn on me as every hour passed. I’ve never really recovered.
Even mistakes are meaningful to teach us lessons...
I know this feeling. You are not alone.
We never should have trusted Molyneux. 😢
If you want a REALLY in-depth retrospective on FPS games from proto Dooms on, I'd recommend Errant Signal's Children of DOOM series. Its only on the year 1998 but it's already over 4 hours of content and I can really attest to the level of detail of the timeline.
Came to the comments to mention Children of Doom, great series so far
Nice review, Power! A well-written and edited video. :) You've earned yourself a subscriber! :D
Please, allow me to state some corrections here regarding release years shown in the video.
Thief II was released in 2000, not 2016;
DOOM 3 was released in 2004, not 2003;
Left 4 Dead 2 was released in 2009, not 2010;
Blood was released in 1997, not 1998.
Everything else is correct though.
Thanks for the corrections. This is why it's bad for me to rush a video out before a thing literally disappears from view.
How did I miss the blatant Thief typo though, damn...
Masters of Doom is my favourite book! I'm so happy you brought it up
I hope Randy Pitchford was included exclusively to grill him about his crimes
Bro this is dope. Always nice to see the artistry behind game design.
One of the cool phenomena in the medium of gaming is how revolutionary mechanics can become standard. One dev team has the brilliant idea to add an Aim Down Sights feature, and now this is a typical feature of FPS.
Look, you don't need an _entire_ section on Dick Marcinko's _Rogue Warrior._ All you need is the swear-filled spoken-word rap-poem from the ending credits.
Digital copies now available, and for a much more reasonable $24.99!

I really wonder who told them $50 was going to fly in the first place
You should do a full video on No Players Online, as it is a delightfully horrifying game with lots of hidden details and lore and one hell of a vibe/aesthetic
Brilliant review video! thankyou!
What I think a cool documentary would be is one on valve and the source engine
the moment you pause repeatedly the video for each name in list of the cast, seeing some of your favorite faces then suddenly, at 1:52 you screech in horror as you behold the horror that is Randy's face, your reflexes kicks in, you grab your shotgun and you shoot at your screen, crawl under your bed and lay in a ball for two days.... then you pick up your phone and write a dumb comment about it. Good times ...
im gonna watch this doc the DAY it comes out
Reminds me a lot of the fantastic documentaries by the channel Ahoy.
too pricey for me but ill def try this doc when i can. id also love a fighting game one
this was a fun watch, thx
I know it's a fan project, but at $50, there's a much better way to get it for cheap.
13:27 , I'm literally playing Street Fighter while watching this!
imo power pack is the best reviewer in the whole platform
true and real
Pyrocynical
thanks for posting this:)
So, when is your review of Tunnel B1 coming out?
This seems great but im not paying 50$ for a bunch of bytes. 50$ for something that includes physical items that need to be moved and shipped, sure, but digital only? Nahh, i can buy 4-5 games for that price
at the end I wish it was more than 4 hours
Hey Maze War....
I wonder if it mentions the Terminator game, not Future Shock.
Well, some streaming service might pick it up someday or maybe it'll wash up on the shores of the P!rate Bay sooner or later...
I can wait - at my age it doesn't matter if I watch this now or in twenty years or in 2077...
But thanks for the heads-up. Great _'before you buy'_ review of a very interesting documentation. ❤
Is marathon in this?
I literally just read Masters of Doom for the first time in a decade. That's funny timing.
15:18 holy shit, i played the ever living shit out of this game on a PS1 demo disc way back in the day. have been trying to remember what it was called for forever now and it just randomly falls in my lap here haha
I had no idea this was even a thing
was STALKER covered in this at all?
does it mention Ultima Underworld ? It's not an FPS of course but ...
It does!
Idk what Godus is but not knowing about it tells me how bad it went
Alanah friggin Pearce is a patron, jfc powerpak!
you should play outer wilds
4hrs?!
Bl2 is in it so it has to be good
Unless they slander my boy and bl1
$30 in Australia... I'll pass until someone uploads a torrent.
50$ bucks? I know it is a huge project but thats a fuck ton of money, piracy once again saving the day
best video ever
a
No mention of Timesplitters 2. Shame on you!
That first rainbow 6 was trash. The ai was so shit, it was always better to just run in and do it yourself.
hello power back can you please talk about don't escipe 4 it on of the best (if not the best) point click games it talk about a person in the ender of the world and every day a diasaster happen but also every day the broken moon look bigger and bigger that the game i want you to talk about please
If they didn't talk about Borderlands i'm not watching that. Just sayin.
40$ is not bad if they had released it as a 4 part mini-series for 10$ a piece. if you think about it as a 10$/hr for a passion project then it seems more reasonable
I've watched your MyHouse.WAD review 6 times, I can't imagine they could have made it as good as that :)
All i can say is, they better spend 3+ hours of that run time discussing the pivotal importance of Faceball. If not, then it'll have to be you, Pak.
funny how the fps history goes from doom to doom
