What i like most about your channel is your honesty on how long it takes to manage a skill. Fitness industry here on youtube makes me really anxious, as if i am not progressing fast enough or that i am somehow kind of weak or unable to learn. But whenever i feel this way i try to remember you saying "enjoy being a beginner" and i feel a little better/motivated ♥ :)

Agreed. Great having a REAL perspective. Video title isn't learn a hand stand in 5 minutes.

@@StephsHealthMatters yeah. i also try to remember what my context is...where "i am" when attempting to do something. for example, when i tried my first knee assisted push ups i was about a year and something without going to the gym and always have struggled with upper body strenght. i am not flexi AT ALL, also. which makes some moves kind of difficult, so it's a slow process for me. not comparing myself with people who have more free time to train or have another background in terms of strenght/flexibility or in terms of HEALTH itself has helped me to let it go a little bit. those "learn something extremely hard in 7 days" are so unrealistic, it's just not worth it.

Me too. The level of pressure to see weight loss as soon as possible literally made me stop exercising. I felt like it was too much for me. I want to have fun first. That sport seems sooo cool to me, I love the way you can simply start easy and get harder but still workout. It's not like feeling you are doing nothing

It took me two years to be able to do a regular push-up. Lol It shouldn't take that long, 6 months to a year I think is how long it should have taken me. I needed to be doing exercises that improve core strength just as much as push-ups along with my usual exercises that improve upper body strength.

One of the things that gets most people to quit their training is being overly ambitious when they start.
Dont pick a random 1 and a half hour long training plan right from the start.
Start small with 20-30 minutes and start including this routine in ur daily life as often as your able to.
Add exercises once the initial hurdle of starting your workout is gone ideally this includes everyones favourite: cardio
Also if your struggling with reaching a certain number of for example pullups count backwards instead of fowards
because this way your mind goes 3 ...2...1 so your automatically more
focused on the fact that your ALMOST at your desired number
Once your body has adapted to training wich takes between 3 to 6 month you should start to increase the intensity gradually with each workout or on a weekly basis
The more you push yourself the faster you will reach your goals but be careful to not build up so much stress that it makes hate your workouts. Push but stay within your
    own comfort zone

I started exercising last February and I had zero fitness. I took a few months off at the end of the year and my fitness went downhill. Since January I have been working so hard and at the park the other day I managed to do the monkey bars (couldn't even hold myself before 😂). It felt like such a massive achievement I was so proud! It really is such an amazing feeling when you can finally do something

You are the kind of PTs that the world urgently needs since it’s so overwhelming to be bombarded with quick fixes workouts that do nothing other than make you feel abnormal, a looser, incompetent and simply frustrated which equals to a bad mindset towards exercising. As you perfectly stated, calisthenics and exercises in general should be about small but consistent growth, positive mindset, and most of all having fun with our bodies great abilities to learn and get better. God bless you Lucy and everyone reading this!

So I'm starting out with learning the basic moves and hope to live long enough to master a perfect handstand. Yesterday I did my first pull-up. And it looks really easy (I spent only 3 weeks to do that) unless you know what a hard work stands behind it: 7 months of bodyweight training, 3 months of weight training and 3 weeks of dedicated work to do a pull-up. So, don’t let yourself give up, you will do whatever you want to achieve, just be patient and dedicated!
Thank you, Lucy for inspiration and I send you hello from Russia!

Love when you share about calestetics! I don't know anyone who does this style of training. So there's so many skills I want to learn but struggle with the progressions to get me ANYWHERE! I Also appreciate that it takes awhile! That takes some of the pressure off 🤣
Would you be intrested in making tutorials on specific movements and the progressions to get there? I.E how to use resistance bands to help get a front lever or muscle up. Things like that?
    You are incredible 💪

For me it's also been a struggle to not compare myself against my past self. Around ~10 years ago I'd gotten down to a normal weight, was running 5k 3x per week, and was up to minute long planks and head and hand stands against the wall. At the time I was still super unhappy with how my body looked and still wanted to lose more weight. Then I had a bad bout with the flu and lost two weeks of training and a bunch of weight and muscle. Between still being unhappy at my "target" weight and the loss of strength and stamina I just sort of... gave up. Which is super sad to think about now, because it seems so silly in retrospect (poor young early 20's me and her lack of wisdom and years of therapy). But it's also clearer to me now that I was in it for all the wrong reasons.
Now between pandemic and a sedentary work-from-home job I'm so much further behind in fitness than I ever have been.
I only found your channel recently, but your honesty in your personal journey has been so refreshing! The idea of moving my body out of love and passion instead of as part of some punitive and/or militant regime had been foreign to me. I feel like you've given me the final push I needed to let go of the shame over what I lost and to start feeling excited about the journey again!

Even though I’m a gymnast, I wasn’t been able to do full correct pushups. I watched many of Lucy’s vids and started with incline pushups and reducing the height of the incline. I am now able to do pushups on the ground correctly, with a full range of motion and it’s great because my strength has improved so much and the frequency of injuries has reduced so much. Thank you Lucie 💕Sending good vibes to everyone here!

This video is great, but for me as a super beginner, I don't know what all these moves mean. I obviously know what a squat or pull-up is but the other stuff went over my head, it would be great if you could add images or videos to show the movement you are referring to.

Would love it if you could talk about whether heavier people can try calisthenics. Obviously, the heavier you are, the harder the exercise, also I think, the potential for injury is much higher. At what weight is it not advised to do this? Or what adjustments can heavier people make?

    • @xXxTripleHxXx
      @xXxTripleHxXx 3 роки тому +1

Heavier people can still do calisthenics
Just resort to easier versions of exercises like knee or incline push ups instead of regular push ups
Even pull ups can be swapped for leg assisted pull ups
Core can be trained with knee tucks, planks etc
It's only the skills that are exponentially harder the heavier you are
Don't be afraid just do the stuff you can eventually you'll be able to do more and more

In bare foot martial arts, callouses are such a huge part of being able to do the art comfortably and we can be very protective of them. There's nothing worse than getting a pedicure, losing the callous and the next time you go to pivot hard, tearing off a chunk of skin on the ball of the foot. It makes the next week almost unbearable and there's a noticeable drop in performance for about a month. Embrace the callous

Generally calisthenics is not as effective in building strength and size after you reached a certain level.
There are ways to equalize it but it requires equipment like weighted wests or other kinds of external weights to increase resistance once your bodyweight isn't challenging enough
However most people will never reach this because their training quality or quantity isn't optimal for reasons

@@xXxTripleHxXx Once you reach the point (and already far before that) where your bodyweight is not challenging anymore (in any calisthenics exercise), you are already super strong, muscular and defined.
Furthermore, there are so many super challenging arm balances that I think this point cannot be reached unless you are professional with at least a decade of experience.
