I hunt in Georgia and found your information to be on point. I have 2 hunting buddies that use OnX and they are switching after seeing your video. Thanks
I have been using Huntstand for a couple of years and like it a lot. Since I hunt in two different states (Florida and Georgia) I use Handstand Pro to get multiple state coverage. I like the fact that Huntstand Pro gives me full features for multiple states at a more affordable cost than OnX would (I think it is $30/year vs $100/year to get multiple state coverage).
I found out that OnX doesn't like to update there Florida maps that much but I looked at the spots and sure enough huntstand had all of my spots updated with the maps so I think I might try to use that more. I think I have seen you out at three lakes driving around scouting.
Never been to three lakes 🤷♂️. But yea HuntStand does usually update images monthly as long as they get clear satellite psses without cloud cover. It’s way better if you ask me. -Mark
You should look at GAIAGPS as well. Also, there are a number of areas where you need to work off line where there is no cell coverage (mountain areas), and the functions are very different. Huntstand will only allow access to one map, not all of the maps. Definitely a detriment to huntstand. If you have cell coverage, huntstand has excellent coverage, but not when you are off line. FYI
My subscription to onx is due at the end of this month I am really glad I happened upon this video. I am going to give hunt stand a go instead. Thanks.
When purchasing Huntstand, if in December 2021 is it good for 12 months from purchase date? Or, another purchase beginning January 1 throughout 2022... thanks.
Been using hunted for 4 years the biggest problem i have with it is that property that is sold takes about a year to show up. Not always up to date. Plus there billing is a joke has i have paid them for service and got new phone and then i have to pay again.
I have had HuntStand for years + the ownership over lay. I like it overall, but I don’t like when they “update” it and everything changes as far as where things are. Very annoying to get the hang of it, then it all gets moved around.
Dang imagine hunting without any device on you hhmmm how did they ever do it back in the day I use on x but might switch to bolth I also use google map there is a lot of good stuff on all of them
I think there’s a challenge video in there somewhere. Maybe one of these days well try to kill a deer in a new area we don’t know without using any digital help!
You make some nice points in the video I agree with. I had pro for a year and like hunt stand better. But when you go in the woods and don't have cell service( most of the time) hunt stand only has Satellite layer, so you lose all the trails and topo and all their other great layers. Onx keeps the trails and topos on their offline map which is way more helpful. Can't follow a trail on hunt stand when you can't save it. I would think the not downloading layers thing is a legal issue.
Realizing this video was made 2 years ago, I'm looking at OnX and see that you can build 'folders' which is basically the same a 'hunt maps' in HuntStand. Then you can share each folder with your friends. I'm still on the fence between the two. I was leaning towards Huntstand because I've used the free version for years and love the wind cone for bow hunting, but OnX has a pretty cool wind function now that I'm thinking looks pretty good. Good video, very informative.
Just canceled my membership. I learned ONX maps are OUTDATED and they can’t update them because it doesn’t work with “they’re layer system.” I asked the guy what use was an out dated map on ONX when I can just get a current updated map on google maps? He said “ good question!” DONT WAST YOUR CASH ON IT!!
There will be more detailed videos coming. I like the tracking feature on HuntStand, because it gives you more options on what to do With the track after you make it
The only thing that bothers me about all these mapping software's and with the reviews of them is no one is stressing that the property boundaries are not accurate. How do I know this? I tested them on my own hunting land and they can be 100s of yards incorrect. The reason they're not accurate is they use County Plat maps which are not accurate and not legally binding. The plat maps are estimates and most if not all will state they are an estimate and not legally accurate. The only accurate source of legally binding property lines are legal surveys. The mapping software Companies use the County Plat Maps because they are FREE. To use the survey, you have to pay the surveyor for the survey. You may wonder does this matter well in my state shooting an animal on my land without my permission is poaching no matter what software you use. I just wish these mapping software Companies and the promotors and reviewers of such would do the right thing and make it clear the property lines are not accurate and not legal.
@@buck16 I think this is a larger issue on private land since the public lands have legal surveys done when they are established and that data is used to demarcate the boundaries of public lands. But nevertheless I always check the published WMA brochure map to see if it matches what is shown on the apps map. I have found that these maps are generally pretty accurate for public lands the only time I’ve found inconsistencies is when a new piece of land has been added to a WMA and the map isn’t updated so it shows the public land ends before it actually does. -Mark
@@walmark45 I only have in depth experience with OnX and I have the cheaper paid version of it because of the need of property lines. I have just recently DL’d both HuntStand and Basemap to experiment with. First of all the latter two have a more crisp and up to date map picture in fact it’s the exact same and it’s MUCH better than OnX. It’s still 6 months old at best however. HuntStand allows you to zoom in slightly closer than Basemap. HuntStand has the least amount of waypoint markers of all the free versions, but you have the option to label them and make notes on them so that’s helpful. I honestly won’t be renewing my OnX come January next I’m going to be sending all my waypoints over to the other two and see which one I want to upgrade come January.
@@markharris783 ONX is useless it needs to be recalled and not released until it's fully functioning. The trial is 7 days of free premium which doesn't actually have much to it. they literally need to make the app worth $30 because as of this message, it barely has anything you can do with it. You cannot even use it to plan anything.
I use the best hunting app in the world.my brain.i go on foot & scout.then i remember where i am & i never in my life had a problem with finding my trees.i use only a climbing stand.been hu ting for 42 years & never got lost.got turned around once or twice but never lost.i like all this tecnology though.keeps the younger generations on there phones pushing buttons while im hunting.

I made the switch from OnX Maps to Hunt stand based on your video and Hunt stand is definitely the way to go.
Just watched your video on the hunting apps. Very helpful! Thanks for the honest info.
Aunt Stan weather is not compatible with the iPhone 7 due to iso requirements

Good review of the differences. I did not know about most of those differences (since I have never actually purchased or used OnX).
I’m new to hunting and this really helped me with all the info you shared. Hopefully the promo code still works.
Do u know how both apps preform in Canada? I am in Alberta
I’ve never used them there so I can’t comment on it but it’s so cheap, you might as well give it a whirl! -Mark
I need the lot lines and landowner info, contacts, etc. I will be researching both

@@SwampNStomp only satellite. No trail or other info.

How do you delete track on HuntStand app
Just tap on it, hit edit and scroll to the bottom and hit delete. -Mark

I think youre mistaken. All of those features remain available in huntstand in offline mode. -Mark
Is there a way to transfer your stuff off of ONx over to Huntstand?
Not that I know of
Yes you can export waypoints from one app to another. Basemap just sent me an email on this you can find their video describing how here on YT
Onx interface is just too busy. I got the app, saw a map flooded with a bunch of blinking shit, and deleted it soon after.
Great information

OnX Basemap and HuntStand all have free versions, they also have upgrades for a price
