Tracking can be difficult especially at night. One thing you may want to include in your kit is a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. It will foam when it hits the blood. Can make spotting blood tracks at night much easier.

    Just found you.. I subscribed.
I used to hunt Coyotes back in the 80's and early 90's especially.. I used a 22.250 Ruger Number 1 varmint. It was a tack driver. I also used a Critt'r hand held open reed call and I had great luck. I killed 7 coyotes at one farm about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.
Fox, etc, in my hometown in very south central Indiana.
Great video. I'm 62 and I want to get back into it since I'm about to retire and I'm going to have fun now! I think I'll either get a Ruger American or an AR such as a Colt carbine or a Windam, etc..
Thanks so much man.. Great video..
Regards from South Central Indiana. The heartland. USA
    Tim
Oh.. A couple more things.. 😛
I'm only going to be hunting during the day, but I used to camo out big time and I agree, it helps. I go prone and used a bipod and really really made sure my setup was good. I tried to setup downwind and started calling slowly with squeeks first and then howled and used puppy in distress usually with great results.. I've had fox and coyotes come in fast with mouse squeaks right away! Great tip..
I've not hunted at night and I don't even hunt during the summer or spring. I hate bugs as I'm allergic to all kinds of biting bugs.. So I like to hunt after all the fall freezes when the bugs go back to hell where they belong.. 😛
The chest rig is awesome. I used to use a belly pack that was kind of big..
I might build like an 18" or 20" upper on a PSA lower with a good drop in trigger.. That or a bolt gun. Not sure which one I'll use, but I also agree.. It's supposed to be fun and makes it good to see animals, etc.. Great times.. I get out and have a great time seeing all typse of animals. One time all camo'd up I had an owl come down and touch my head. I had a headnet on and was sitting against a bunch of tree's and such a land owner had pushed up at the edge of a field with a front end loader.
I thought you might want to add to your next video to tell everyone to always, ALWAYS get permission to hunt and to offer to pay or help with whatever the farmer might need. It helps and I"ve even got permission to deer hunt..
Thanks so much.. Sorry for all the writing, but I'm excited to get out there and put the dogs down! 😛
    Tim

Definitely agree with throwing sounds at them. Can't tell you how many coyotes would be hung up, then you switch sounds and they bomb in. Just had it happen last night. Started with some interro howls, then some cottontail distress, then some jackrabbit distress. Nothing came in. Switched sounds to coyote distress and coyote/coon fight played at the same time. This yote came burning in and stopped 20 yards in front of us

The tournament takes place at a place called Kirby saloon, it’s a 72hr non stop hunt and it’s actually really fun. I took leave from the military and went back home and ended up jumping in it. There’s a $200 entry fee for everyone and it all goes into the prize money as well. We got 8 coyotes, winner ended up getting 16 which is crazy. You can have 3 people on 1 team which is also nice. Takes place every January

Hi my name is Chad I'm in Coyote hunting for about 6 years medium success One question that I have about your video you say that if like a rabbit distress or mouse or whatever doesn't work change it up to like a bird distress I'm a night hunter I hunt mostly at night there's not a whole lot of birds that fly around I'm in Wisconsin but you say to paint a picture set the stage obviously if there's a rabbit in distress that doesn't work and you switch to a bird wouldn't it throw a red flag saying that there's two wounded animals in distress there is it better to stick with one just distress call

    • @OwnTheHunt
      @OwnTheHunt  10 місяців тому +1

I completely understand where you’re coming from with your question, interestingly enough coyotes don’t seem to reason like we do as humans. If they hear a sound that gets their interest and attention they will react accordingly. I have had rabbit not work and then switched to fawn distress and had them commit. Where you don’t want to go crazy with mixing sounds is the coyote vocals themselves.

I’m in the same boat man. 2 years now and nothing. One thing I have learned is patience even if you don’t get barks back because late last year we called for about 20 minutes and we left that spot and drove ahead about 2 min away and walked up this hill and on the other side it opened up and 3 dogs were running towards us. We called them in from probably about a mile away ish and it was taking them forever to reach us. They turned and burned before we could do anything. Other spots I’ve got barks back but never saw them. Keep hustlin!

If the law says no infrared night vision and no thermal then the only other way to night hunt would be super bright red or green lights mounted to your rifle with a normal scope. I highly recommend red light over green and the best on the market is sniper hog lights

I’m a random law student in Tulsa, but I’m looking to get out and participate in hunting to enjoy the outdoors more in my downtime.
I decided to start hunting coyotes, because not only are they vermin who seriously bother our farmers’ cattle, but also in Oklahoma they are open season all year long, with no restrictions on the bag limit. So it’s a win for the community, since they need the numbers reduced, a win for the longevity, because I can go whenever I want for the rest of my life, and good for me because now I get to go enjoy some nature and outdoors for once haha.
I’ve only a long rifle and pump shotgun. So obviously, I would be doing day hunting with my limited arsenal. Where can I get a call device? I’ve never bought one before, as a beginner.
Finally, after I have my call and firearm, is that all I need to succeed?

    • @OwnTheHunt
      @OwnTheHunt  2 роки тому +2

I would buy an Icotec caller either the outlaw or the night stalker from Logan at Fall River shooters. Link in description. It’s definitely a learning experience every time and it’s not easy to succeed. Best of luck to you!

It’s 2022 and things like the wind are easily checkable. I mean shit use your phone, or put your finger in your mouth, get it wet, and feel which way the wind is coming from. You don’t NEED all of this gear to hunt, even though this video is VERY inexpensive. Minus the AR lol. But things like a sidearm you don’t need at all. Just be prepared when you go to recover your kill. Or wait it out. But anyways keep up the content loving it!

Not really much about hunting, more about gear.

Watching hunters talk about gear is so much better than taticool people. You don't see hunters running around with illegal weapon lights in the field.

hunting should be one of the most basic tasks, all that gear is almost pathetic.

Have you ever coyote hunted intentionally? Or just got lucky while deer hunting?

I mean you can throw rocks at them if you want man but I’ll stick to my SPR build, IR NVG optics, and electronic caller.

@@mikeofmanymikes2630 Nah, I’m not much of a hunter. Have a good amount of experience behind lots of different an/pvs models, M2, M240B, M249, M107, AT4, and every variant of A4/M4. Also have experience in instructing some of those. It just so happens that I also enjoy coyote hunting as a hobby.

Kinda cool…. Tactical looking guns are disgusting IMO

The AR is the most effective rifle platform for night hunting. It’s extremely difficult to get a follow up shot on a running coyote at night so a semi auto is a must.

@@johnmahoney4841 not really. I would say if you use a bolt gun at night you had better hope they drop in their tracks.

Shot placement is key.. we don’t have CF semis here so bolt .223 is what i use for foxes.. never needed a follow up shot with it..55gr t3tactical 👌.. never been an advocate of the spray and pray method but I’m not from ‘merica 😉
