I used a diesel heater in my utility trailer. A three gallon fuel tank mounted outside provides 5 days of heat all night. A solar panel maintains the battery. Like your wood stove, it's a dry heat so clothes drying is a snap. Makes taking a shower in the middle of winter possible as well. A 5 gallon bucket and a live well pump is the shower. Love the build.
Same for me. I have a arktronic diesel heater in the truck camper I built from scratch to bring up here to alaska 2 years ago. And that thing is great quick no fuss dry heat. I insulated my camper with 3" of rigid foam and sprayed all the seams on it so it's over insulated. 3 gallons in a rotopak runs mine at night for close to a month in the spring and fall and about 10 days of continuous run in -30°f. But it is over insulated and not that big... plus I drywalled my camper so it has mass and very little thermal bridging.
@kylemacdonell1450 what "smell", the only time I ever smell diesel is at the fuel pump when I fill the tank and my truck 🤔🤷♂️. It exhausts outside and if you smell the diesel heater inside its not installed right. Wood heat is great, but I'd rater set a timer for 10 minutes before I get up and let it warm the camper without any effort, plus fire restrictions are a thing out west during hunting season for wood stoves.
I did a conversion on a 12 utility trailer. Kitchen up front, fold down bunks and table, two windows and I went with a Dwarf wood stove. The Dwarf stove is an Idaho company and I love the stove, it's worked great in the trailer. I can haul either my ATV or my snowmobile and then have a super comfortable camp setup. Trailer still pulls okay with my Tacoma. Keep up the good work and great content.
Looks great Brian. I see the guys pulled up on public land hunts that have trailers converted , I'm like those guys have their act together. I'm in my pup kit and sleeping bag. It's all good. Makes me want it more!! Keep us posted on the conversation. looking great!!🫎🚚
A lot of my hunts, I sleep in a wall tent but I want to build out a cargo trailer to haul all my gear to camp and then use it as a cook trailer. That way I can lock out the critters, mice, squirrels and bears. I also haul quads for my hunts and I typically travel several days to get to my hunt locations. With the cargo trailer, I can pull over to some gravel pit, pull the quads out and sleep for the night on the way out. Your video come at the right time.
Tuning in to follow!!!! I am freaking stocked to see how this turns out. I have all the same concerns with toy haulers and rvs. It’s nice to have something I’m not constantly worried about.
Solid Build. I like the wood stove. I converted my 2014 7x16 Cargo Trailer into my mobile hunting rig. One thing I did was build out a small kitchen in the nose of the trailer. Completed it with a small pantry (Cabinets) I bolted them up top and installed a counter space (width of the nose) to cook on. Underneath, I have additional storage for kitchen items. One thing that has been a game changer is running a power strip (24 inch) along the kitchen wall. I'm able to power radios, charge phones, anything electrical. I drilled a 3 inch diameter hole in the left corner and run my extension cord out the bottom to my Honda 2000 watt Generator that I have outside away from the trailer. Its worked very for all my power needs and lighting up the trailer. Another item that is a must have for early season hunts is a Magnetic Velcro Mesh Screen to cover your door when its warm outside and you want circulation inside the trailer. The Magnetic Velcro Mesh Door enables you to walk in and out with ease and keeps all the bugs out, but allowing the fresh air in. Super easy to install and super cheap!
I have a 9x16 shed insulated walls and ceiling, lumber bunks, 9' wall table, fridge, space heater, tv/dvd 4 slider cheap windows, .75" marine ply for the floor and a window mounted a/c. Tight as a tick, make you sweat in the winter, cool AF in the summer. I call it my Hooch. Landowner gave me the shed instead of hauling a camper down for turkey and whitetail season. Barn next to the Hooch has a barn full bath with shitter, sink and shower. All the creature comforts of home. My home away from home. Look forward to the completion of your build. It always makes it better when you do it yourself.
FOLLOWING. I listened to the podcast while training this morning and had to come check out the video. I did the same. The nice thing is it can be adapted to each hunt, sort of a work in progress. Up here in Canada I definitely second the diesel heater. They pump out incredible heat and can keep everything from freezing while you’re out hunting, especially your drinking water. I am going to change mine a bit this spring. I will frame a wall at the back of the trailer that will have a door and window. It will be the main door. It will allow for a 2’ “porch” that I can leave Jerry cans, flammables and anything that can stay outside. It will be wide enough for a small quad but not a s*s. then when I head out for the day I close the trailer doors and it’s immediately secure.
Pretty cool build so far. I look forward to seeing more of this project in the future. We have heard of Sam Soholt and the Public Land Bus 🚌 and Van 🚐 now we have Brian Call with the Public Land Trailer. Pretty sweet indeed 😎
Right on 👍, I love that ur doing ur own build . We are ordering our cubic mini for our coach bus build , and for our sons RV as we embark in off grid living. Love ur channel , can't wait to see how it all transforms . Cheers to making it ur own 👍
Disco beds work great. I have 2 bunk sets for my trailer. I put a Williams direct vent propane wall heater in the front v. It’s a great base camp set up for my family or friends. And it will still empty out nice to use the trailer for trailer things.
I converted a 16 foot v-nose Cargo Craft trailer. Windows are a must. Just a little advice, every little thing you add to the trailer, adds weight just keep that in mind especially depending upon what you are going to pull it with. I've got a diesel heater and plan on buying that wood stove for it soon.
We lived in a 5th wheel trailer for a few years. They really our cheap/crappy made. I’ve been wanting to build my own enclosed trailer. I find the bed systems to be the coolest to watch how others build theirs.
Looks good so far. I did spray foam around the edges before I pushed my foam boards in to get good tight seals. If you get some of the thin 1/8th foam tape to put over the metal ribs before you put the plywood back on it helps with thermal bridging more than you would think. The good german diesel heaters like webasto and arktronic are super efficient on fuel and super convient nice dry heat. Do not do a gas furnace they are super inefficient on fuel, finicky, dangerous, and propane is more of a pain to get fuel than just pumping a rotopak with diesel. Just my 2 cents but there is a reason diesel heaters are all the rage for van life, camper life, truckhouses, ect. especially here in AK. They are simply worth the thousand bucks.
I put flip up bunk beds in mine so I can drive my quad in. LED lights in the roof with usb outlets in a few spots for charging and fans to blow the heat around.
i installed a cubic grizzly in my trailer a few years ago i used a thimble for a sailboat used it for a year as a hunting cabin in northern ontario and it worked well for most of the night be prepared to feed it in the night it would take 7 inch pieces of hardwood max just like the wife🤣🤣
I built a refrigerated trailer for hanging the game I take (I'm in the HVAC/R field). My next project trailer will be something similar to what you just built but larger. I want my refer unit up front, a toilet, shower and room for my side by side and gear. Your trailer is looking nice so far!!
I also use the $100 chinese diesel heaters off Amazon. I live in Canada-30 --40 degrees and the keep you warm.yiu don't have to get up to keep putting in wood so you get a better sleep.
Everyone needs a basecamp! And we’re often hauling the Polaris Ranger to get us to a late season trailhead. Might as well turn the trailer into a home away from home! 😊
man i did something simiular 2 years ago.except the wood fireplace, its basiclly a dry campter, mine is a v front and the whole front is shelfs a ac unit, battery and changers and mini fridge, and the door i also cut in a handel and wow it wasn't fun, in the back i have a raised queen bed and storage underneath, and along a wall i have a over head cabnets for plates and bread and stuff and a long hanging rack for jackets and a shelf above. above the counter top in the front i put a powered fan that can work as a exsaust if i'm cooking in the front.
Love the show guys and am diggin the trailer build so far. I own a power systems business in Colorado and would love to help out on the power setup for it. Let me know if you want to talk thru some ideas
Any reason why you didn’t use the backpacking stove for the peaks teepee setup? We have that stove already, so I was thinking maybe we could rig a setup to utilize that stove in the trailer as well.
The light Titanium stoves are great in a tipi, but they do not hold heat for a long time. A cast iron stove is just much more efficient especially with insulated walls and ceiling in the trailer. It is also designed to not get super hot for safety reasons.
You really should insulate the floor I stayed in my enclosed trailer this 2023 season for 4th rifle Colorado and you could really feel the cold radiating off the floor water bottles would freeze to the wood I would like to do a build like this and I would definitely insulate the floor with 1 inch of foam

Could you do a total cost out video on the build when you’re done too by chance? I did this to my 6x10 and have been thinking about selling it to get a bigger one but I’d be interested to see what this all ran ya (roughly) when you’re wrapped up. Thanks!
Yo big dog. What happened to the bear hunt where someone got a cougar? Been waiting since the summer. What happened on that trip.? Stay safe God bless you and your families.
I don’t think I would have cut the stove hole in the roof, that material is so thin and moves so much with the sun I think you’ll have problems keeping it from leaking. When you do the next trailer ( which you will 😂) get a trailer with extra 6” or 12” of ceiling height, adds lots of overhead space and is a cheap upgrade.

The smell and mess are Too nasty for this guy.... Wood ALL the way.. You need a chainsaw for most of this kinda shit anyhow

Drop a trailer if you can.
Good luck this season.

Great build I also built one for enclosed trailer I have
Moble command center lol, would spray foamimg the whole trailer have been an option? Then using a vehicle sound deadening mat over top been an option?
I built a refrigerated trailer for hanging the game I take (I'm in the HVAC/R field). My next project trailer will be something similar to what you just built but larger. I want my refer unit up front, a toilet, shower and room for my side by side and gear. Your trailer is looking nice so far!!

Everyone needs a basecamp! And we’re often hauling the Polaris Ranger to get us to a late season trailhead. Might as well turn the trailer into a home away from home! 😊
What is the base trailer brand? Ceiling 16” on center?

Bear Hunting Magazine has a article on do it yourself cargo trailer bear camp for solo hunter. Good read. Keep cost down. 8x16 cargo is big.
If you plan on using in the cold, insulate it, makes a world of difference!
Love the show guys and am diggin the trailer build so far. I own a power systems business in Colorado and would love to help out on the power setup for it. Let me know if you want to talk thru some ideas
"In construction for decades" and yet hacked that door install to pieces. 😂😂
LOL! I don’t give a damn how the door jam looks-I only care that it works and I didn’t have to spend any money on new tools.
Any reason why you didn’t use the backpacking stove for the peaks teepee setup? We have that stove already, so I was thinking maybe we could rig a setup to utilize that stove in the trailer as well.

Great start to a cool project although at 16' I wouldn't call it small.
Nate
Did you insulate the ramp door?
I have not yet, but I plan to in the future. Everything just has a double layer of 1" plywood.
You really should insulate the floor I stayed in my enclosed trailer this 2023 season for 4th rifle Colorado and you could really feel the cold radiating off the floor water bottles would freeze to the wood I would like to do a build like this and I would definitely insulate the floor with 1 inch of foam
Sweet set up, should make late hunts more comfortable.
Was wondering when there would be an update on the trailer build?
We just recorded some updates and those will be coming out next week. 👍
I've been wanting to do something similar for quite some time now. Your setup looks really great , good job! 2 questions here.
1. Do you know what the overall weight is on the trailer all finished out like that, and what kind of tongue weight does it have?
2, What are you using to tow it?
Thank you. I have not weighed it yet to see. I pull it with a 3500HD Duramax.
Copy that, thank you.
Nice little stove! Do you have a fresh air inlet for it?
I bought a ice fishing hut propane stove. Works great!
Yes, I do have a fresh air inlet.
I met a guy this year that did the same thing aside from having the stove
Could you do a total cost out video on the build when you’re done too by chance? I did this to my 6x10 and have been thinking about selling it to get a bigger one but I’d be interested to see what this all ran ya (roughly) when you’re wrapped up. Thanks!
We will do a price total in one of the next trailer build videos in the future.
What hoodie is that that you're wearing at the beginning? Looks like a thick merino/acrylic material. Pretty sure Lampers is always wearing it too
Yo big dog. What happened to the bear hunt where someone got a cougar? Been waiting since the summer. What happened on that trip.? Stay safe God bless you and your families.
The cougar was never caught on film and the hunting wasn't too exciting the last few days of the hunt. Thanks for reaching out.
Thanx
Do you hunt bear for the meat only or can it be used for other purposes
Throw some solar panels on top with a battery setup and you’ll be good to go! I’m sure you could get sponsored by someone to do it!
Thanks! The hole in the roof has been bombproof-no leaking whatsoever. The vent is meant to take a lot of heat.
I’m just curious why do this instead just purchase a mini rv for hunting ?
Well, a few reasons. I needed a trailer than can accommodate my Polaris Ranger. So I either needed to get a toy hauler or build my own utility trailer/toy hauler conversion. Building my own trailer is far less expensive. Modern Toy Haulers and Trailers are garbage and fall apart--my trailer is built with the high quality components I want and the trailer is custom built and laid out to my liking. And it's fun to build my own trailer. My trailer is built to last--it's very durable. My trailer increases in value with each upgrade while a mini RV will continue to lose value every year. RVs are a money pit. Anyway, I hope that answers your question. Thanks!
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast thank you for response, I’m really thinking about building something similar to this myself pretty cool set up just didn’t know which direction to go with it. Looks like a lot of fun tbh
Some thought about the wiring should have been done before you insulated and recovered everything.
Why not put the stove in the Vnose?
We have bunk beds setup in the front of the trailer. I wouldn’t be able to pull the side by side in if I have them on the side of the trailer.
Go with a diesel heater, not a propane heater
I’m still trying to figure out what mAyysuring means…. Kinda scratching my head…
How many Llamas can you fit in there? 😂
Enough if I want to 😂
should film yourself doing more of the work
"promosm"
