my much older cousin took me to the movies to see this one when i was 7 years old. i was so upset because as a boy i didn´t want to see a movie about "a girl traveling to a magical world". i came in grumpy and left just in awe. back then there was no internet so all those years i kept it in my heart fantasizing about seeing it again one day. when the day came 8 years later i became that little excited boy once more. such an unbelievable nostalgic and emotional movie.

    Hi I’m japanese.
The front of the house sign for the bathhouse says 油屋 it reads “YuYa” it doesn’t read “Sentó” .
“YuYa” can mean hot water house which is a bathhouse. But it doesn’t show any connection to Chihiro’s name.
The house on an island scene is homage to an 80’s anime film “A Night of Galaxy Train”.

“Only if I knew Japanese” was literally my thought every time I think about this movie, every aspect has a deeper meaning and every action in this movie had a meaning but it’s something I’ll have to do more research on.
It wasn’t until my Japanese friend told me that each character had a meaning to them as well.
The weird white fat character that was in the elevator with chihiro is actualky the god of daikon.
It’s basically saying all the characters that they were serving were a god of something.

When I was young, around 7-8 years old I didn't like Spirited Away all because the no-face scared me. I didn't touch that movie until I was 13, when it came up on Netflix. I watched it again and soon got over it, forgetting about the movie again.

This movie and many of Miyazakis films never leave me. I always go back to them through memory as if I lived them! One memorable moment was in Porco Rosso when that woman sings a French song. It was so beautiful and majestic. It felt very much alive even though... it never happened irl. It hurts to know we will never see films such as these in the future. But I understand thats simply how the market works.

No, the backing up of the car at the end, is not the reverse of the arrival. It looks like weeks have gone by since they drove up. Grass that wasn't there, is now overgrown. To keep the family from having to face serious questions on their disappearance, I imagined that the road to the theme park was always overgrown, but they saw it differently when they arrived because it was part of the spirit world. It was back to 'normal' when they began to leave.

One thing I never got was how Chihiro knew the pigs weren't her parents?

Remember the hair tie that was given to her by Yubaba's twin sister? I think she said it will protect her from any spells, before going back to save her parents. Maybe she saw the pigs as spirits in her pov. That's my take on that.

They characters you highlight at 10:44 say “Oil House” not bathhouse, and pronounced “Wuyou”.

Spirited away always stuck with me since the first time I watch it when I was 7 or 8,, I’m 14 now and it will always be my favourite. It just gives me a warm feeling mixed with nervousness at some parts of the movie. I just love it tbh!

There's a slight mistake. The voice actress who did the English voice of chihiros mom actually didn't eat KFC she ate an apple

I know the location is inspired by landscape in japan but the tea house is inspired by a tea house in location called jiufen Taiwan

Miyazaki denies this. It was inspired by the Dougo Onsen in Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture, Japan.

I LOVE Spirited Away - but number 20 -working the animators into the ground is not necessary a GOOD thing... it seems to be an issue with a lot of Anime. be good to acknowledge that at least. And I say as a Visual effects artist who is doing 60 hour weeks to make sure your Christmas adverts make your season all happy and fun. Weirdly you will ALL see my work.

Umm, not really sure they reverse the last scene... I mean, if you look at it, there are a lot of leaves and plants on the wall, while during the first scenes the wall is reddish. Also, for some reason there's a stone archway at the end that wasn't there in the beginning of the movie

Dud it's magical, the stone arch might indicate how that place should look like and they were already in spiritual realm at the beginning of the movie

The colonel is famous world wide, and there is a supposed curse because they threw and old colonel statue in a river after a long awaited victory of one of their sports teams. After that the team started to lose again, so they thought the colonel cursed them. They eventually found all of the colonel statue except one of his hands and because they couldn't put him back together the team keeps losing. That's why it's KFC the parents are eating in that scene. They talked about it on the latest channel to join the game/Film theorists family, food theory.

There is also one thing didn't mentioned.
The movie mostly happened at the right half side of the bathhouse, there is a big ass garden only shown at the left side.

The issue I have with the English dub is that the girl doing Chihiro's voice is yelling through the entire film because she's trying to keep up with the rapid pace of the lines in the original Japanese. There's no real emoting, just shouting really fast LOL bugs the heck outta me.

They probably both choose KFC because it's popular in Japan, and Americans know of it. That's my assumption!
This Ghibli movie is one of my favorites for sure, behind or next to Totoro.

"Missed" is actually wrong for most of the information. You shared background information that you can't get by just watching the movie. The Kame House can be missed, at least I didn't notice it but most the other facts need to be researched.

Couldn't it be that the lantern at 6:12 rather is a Chōchin-obake? Since the owner is a good one, the Chōchin-obake shows the way and doesn't frighten people.
