I started crying at the end of the movie, I was so sad that Chihiro had to leave Haku because they were so adorable together... This is one of my all time favorite movies, it has such a great and original story and it has a really beautiful style.
Katana mini Omg same. I was so sad at the end. I started looking things about Spirited Away, after the movie ended, and saw that supposedly in the original Japanese film there was a 30 second extra where Haku becomes Chihiro's neighbor, and classmate, at her new school. I obviously tried finding that clip but I couldn't, which made me SOOOO sad, because Spirited Away is one of my favorite movies (along with Howl's Moving Castle). I haven't watched the video yet so if I just said things that were in it I'm sorry.lol
I wish I had a friend like Haku. I totally ship them, but honestly I'm not really sure if their relationship was a romantic one but still, they have an amazing relationship no doubt about that. When I was 5 I fell in the river and I don't remember how I got out of it, I didn't even know how to swim. So every time I think of Haku I think about my past...
110% devastated that Chihiro didn't remember what happened in the spirit world. Edit: Guys, I'm just referencing what was said in the video. I also want to believe that she remembered everything but the initial comment was about one of the facts in this video.
zeniba says “once youve met someone, you never really forget them. it just takes a while for your memories to return” so its implied that chihiro will eventually remember haku and the spirit world!
Yeah, I always read her expression as wanting to go back, like she missed it already not amnesia. Makes me real glad she still has the hair band her friends made for her.
Soooo happy they didnt sell it to disney. How sad it would have been when a film that has as a theme how capitalisn consumerism takes over spiritualusm
It was NOT a dream as you hypothesised in #86 and #87. Zeniba gives Chihiro a band to tie up her hair before she leaves. In the last scene of the film when Chihiro comes out of the tunnel the purple hair band is still there and sparkles as it catches the sunlight.
They aren't saying that it was all a dream, but in the fact that Chihiro won't remember everything that happend and "think" it was a dream. When it wasn't.
Oh shush. Of you listened you would know that she THINKS it's a dream because she couldn't remember much. And it wasn't a hypothesis. She SAID that it was revealed
Another thing is the story behind Spirited Away. If you look carefully at the character design and the design of the buildings, everything from the brand of car and certain words... The parents are dressed very Western-like and come off as "ignorant". The father says something along the lines "Don't worry, I've got a four wheel drive!" and "Don't worry, I've got credits cards and cash,". Yubaba is also dressed like a Victorian queen, and the place where she resides is also very victorian styled. THe rest of the bath house is traditional Japanese architecture. The very fact that they chose something very Japanese--a bathhouse, is futher evidence for this. It is representing Westernisation and the loss of Japanese culture. It is also representative of capitalist greed. Eg. the scene where Haku tells Yubaba that she has "lost something precious" and Yubaba immediately thinks of her gold, rather than her child. There are also many other hidden meanings. For example, Chihiro's story is one of her moving into adulthood. Chihiro has to "get a job" and loses her name. This is symbolic of the fact that everyone growing up has an obsession with finding a job, and they lose their identity in the process. For example, on the train, all the other adults are greyed out and have "lost their identities" except for Chihiro. You can also easily see her development as she becomes more and more brave throughout the movie. No face is also a reflection of what happens around him. When Chihiro helps out No Face, he returns the favour and helps her back. But in the scene after the stink spirit when everyone one is rushing to pick up gold, there is a short scene of No Face appearing and pearing at the gold, seemingly "thinking". He then becomes a reflection of the greed within the bathhouse until Chihiro helps him and lures him back out. There are obviously also representations of pollution and deteriorating environment, which I'm sure you can figure out for yourself. So many of Hayao Miyazaki's films have many meanings embedded within them. For example Howl's Moving Castle represents the story of self-love. Sophie's curse can only be broken with true love, but that love includes loving herself as well. After all, "true love first begins with yourself" right? Howl's Moving Castle also covers topics like how bad and useless war is, and the Howl stepping out from his immaturity. The Witch of the Waste also goes through a change for the better. Hayao is such a genius for managing to weave so many topics within one film.
Very right, we share most of those thoghts! :) Furthermore, Yubaba and Zeniba looking identical and yet being completely different is something I like to think of as a reference for people having two faces. This adresses racism in some way, because both sisters in the sister look the same (humans having the same nationality/skin colour/religion...) and are completely different from each other at the same time, which shows that these outer things are only skin-deep and don't readily inform us of who really that person is. And while the movie itseld features creatures who hate humans, it's never explained why exactly. Yes, there are a lot of reasons to pick from, but THEIR reason is never specifically mentioned. Chihiro doesn't even ask anyone about why those beings hate human beings - which lead is to that Yubaba-Zeniba thingy again. At first I was confused why a reason for that hate is missing, but in hindsight I think of it as a deliberate message: Just how meaningless and superficial a lot of our drama is. Because while the hate toward humans is a big factor of the behaviour of the inhabitants of the spirit world, it is in the same breath absolutely inauthentic. The reason for that is that after Sen (lol) practically saves everyone by luring No-face out of the facility, everybody suddenly starts being thankful for her, which is in one way beautiful, and in the other way absolutely egoistic because they only started liking her because they didn't get eaten up. If it wasn't for her, they would've ended up as poop probably, which is what they are on the inside... as shown in the way the frog-people behave appropriately and nicely toward other people from their world, and everyone who does not fit 'into their worldview' (everyone who IS from another world → Chihiro) is neglected. A lot of people in the 'real world' today are like that which shows their inauthentic behaviour and how it is not worth living for their approval because it's highly conditional. In addition to all that, the power of Yubaba to 'steal' your name and thereby take control of you, is not only something that's occured to Chihiro. I don't mean Haku either, but for instance Lyn, Kamaji, and the little black beings which do Kamajis work (forgot their name). They all choose to drop their names (to lose their authentic identity) because of the way our society works - I was bewildered when Lyn suddenly started behaving neatly toward Chihiro as she was pretty rough to her all the previous times they came in contact. Quite a while later, Lyn again said 'unnice' things to her, but only in the presence of other people of their world. Because if she openly showed that she liked or accepted humans, she would have been criticized and ultimately be the 'weird one'. Haku, of course did that too as he said Chihiro to call him Master Haku in the elevator. Despite the fact that those folks betray their own identity by pretending to be someone else to fit into the world, they too have other sides - two or more faces - despite the fact everyone seems to think the same thing about a specific topic ('humans are bad')
"What could be more interesting than a film about a chimney painter", she said in a sarcastic tone. Bitch, it's Miyazaki. You know that would have been a masterpiece.
The part where she ends up breaking a step and runs at full speed down them and slamming into the wall is my absolute FAVORITE funny scene. It cracks me up every single time. I dont know if its because she is running at full speed with her hands up in the air or the fact she had to take a breath to continue to scream.
I was sad at the end of the movie, because, she forgot everything when she went back to the real world. It was so bullshit for me. I know it's for her best and so she can go back to her normal life with her family, but, I think she should've stayed with the spirits instead. She still has that hairband, so, she might still remember them. That fact comforts me a little... But...will they meet again..?

Silver Samurai26 Who knows, she may have but him just not telling her at all. And besides, the headband would definitely be enough to remember if her goodbye card can trigger who she is.
I personally feel like Chihiro does remember everything that happened but at the end she decided to not look back like Haku mentioned to her. She did gradually change her mind and the hardships she went through change the way she was before and then after.
About the names, actualy Yubaba is more literaly "hot water witch", and obviously, a bathhouse is all about hot water. And you forgot Haku, which means "white" or "blank", which is pretty much the color of nothingness.
You have to be careful about Kanji readings and meanings. Many Kanji have multiple ways of reading and meanings, and also many different kanji have the same sound. In the English version, Haku's real self is Kohaku River. Kohaku can be 琥珀 (amber) or 小白 (small and white) or something else. In Japanese version, it is Nigihayamikohakunushi (にぎはやみこはくぬし) and written in Kata-kana, so one cannot see its Kanji, which means that one cannot be sure for its meanings.
@@atsukorichards1675 But don't forget japanese LOVE some puns, references or simple plays with words and sound, so its VERY likely they intended to make Haku dressed in a white kimono and becoming a white dragon because his name sound like the "white" reading of Haku and Kohaku (which can be read as "white child") while he doesn't have anything "amber" in his design, since most children will immediatly pick "haku" as "white" and "yubaba" as "oil/hot water hag" as those are fairly basic words.
Just a little wish to all viewers of this movie: Please watch it with the original japanese audio and just add subtitles... This basically applies to any movie but it's even more important with movies whose original language is rather different to your own... So many aspects and elements of the films can be lost on the way of translating it and you just only get to experience the movie in its entirety with the original audio...
I knew that she didn’t remember anything after that because haku told her to not look back because he casted a spell so if she did looked back the spell wouldn’t work
As devastating as facts number 86 and 87 are, there is hope. As Zeniba said when Chihiro was having trouble remembering Haku's name; "Once you've met someone you never really forget them. It just takes a while for your memories to return." Perhaps sometime after the events of Spirited Away, Chihiro will look at her little hairband and the memories will come back to her. And Haku did promise they will meet again, afterall.
It's so sweet knowing he made this adventure movie with the 10 year old girl now because when I first watched this movie I was about 9/10 years old!! No wonder I fell in love with it almost immediately and like everyone else, it really inspires me to this day- it made me feel like I could really be the hero of my own story...
The reason why I’m watching this vid is because at school we watched spirited away we had to do a review on it it was so cool how we got to watch anime in class
Eionec All I asked was for them to do 107 facts about one of those 3 anime. I know that the channel's not about anime, but they sometimes do facts about anime like DBZ, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. I don't even know what you're talking about -_-
i was miyazaki's exact demographic for this movie and it hit me so hard as a kid. to this day it has to be one of the most influential pieces of media to me
when i was in elementary we had a similar thing to "cutting the line" where if you drink from someone else's water bottle, you have to connect your pointer finger with the water bottle's owner and "cut the line" because your saliva got connected or smth lol
Idk why I’m sharing this on here but lol, when I was six my mom was hospitalized after a drug overdose brought on by a bipolar episode. I was super distraught and the only thing that could calm me down was this movie. I watched it several times a day, daily. Now that I’m 22, I’ve recently rewatched it, and it brought me to tears. It has a completely new meaning to me.
My daughter was three when we first saw it and we easily watched this about 50 times that year. Because of that she started doing a lot of Chihiro's movements like tapping the tip of her shoe after putting them on. She's in high school now and we still watch it together sometimes.
I honestly don’t like this because she said “oh so if the film jumped of a river you will follow?oh you will.” Because if the film did something wrong he would have to start again so stop. I’m not a hater I don’t like how you said the joke it sounded mean.
she doesn't remember *anything* about her experience??? i refuse to believe this... haku, lin, the boiler man, no face, boh, and ZANEEEEBAAAAAA! im sorry i had to
Nice video but I don't fulky agree with one point. I don't think Chihiro forgets everything about that adventure, and here is why. In the last scene, when Chihiro and her parents are back at the car, she turns back towards the tunnel, and in her hair she still has the ribbon made by Zeniba (who, btw, said that all your memories will always remain inside you). Interestingly, the hair band just shines purple light before she turns to the car. Theoretically, according to the Japanese folklore, if you keep an object from the spiritual world, you keep a connection with that world. And the way the animators made the ribbon shining just before she leaves is cleary a hint of that connection (check the scene yourself) ;)

I've read some article about Miyazaki saying, that Chihiro and Haku met again, when they were old, and Chihiro remembered it all.
I personally feel like Chihiro does remember everything that happened but at the end she decided to not look back like Haku mentioned to her. She did gradually change her mind and the hardships she went through change the way she was before and then after.
"Money witch, which is what I call my landlord." XD I died
So Zeniba means Money witch, yet her Sister Yubaba has all the wealth and lives in a garish penthouse on top of the bathhouse
No face reminds of that guy from the summerween trickster from gravity fall
HyperPyra OMG!!!!!!! YES I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!

I was just about to say that. I love that movie
Stitch Is Best YES
Fact #1 It's based on a book series.
She didn't remember anything from the spirit world by the end of the movie??? That's kinda sad
When you realized no face has hair😕
Well his original design did, and he gains hair after eating some of the bathhouse people but he doesn't have hair until that point.
When he ate most things
i'm going to pretend that i never heard that chihiro forgot what happened in the spirit world
I knew that she didn’t remember anything after that because haku told her to not look back because he casted a spell so if she did looked back the spell wouldn’t work

This instantly became one of my mom's favorite movies after the first time she saw it. She echoed the exact statement from fact number 4.
I love that he made their heroism the whole main point/plot. Truly great representation for young girls
I was probably about ten when I watched spirited away and like actually understood it and all I wanted was Kohaku! I was boy crazy from the start.

Honestly spirited away and howls moving castles, dubs are better than anime dubs today 😂😂😂
Spirited Away was the first time I'd seen a Studio Ghibli film. They have since turned into somewhat of an obsession.
I bloody love this film. The characers, the world, it's so damn good. Saw it first when I was younger, ah the nostalgia.
Spirited away is by far my favorite anime. It’s just absolutely beautiful. I’ll never get over the art that is this movie.
It's so sweet knowing he made this adventure movie with the 10 year old girl now because when I first watched this movie I was about 9/10 years old!! No wonder I fell in love with it almost immediately and like everyone else, it really inspires me to this day- it made me feel like I could really be the hero of my own story...
this a very worthy 125 minutes of my life.

The Masked monster looks like the candy monster from gravity falls Summerween

when i was in elementary we had a similar thing to "cutting the line" where if you drink from someone else's water bottle, you have to connect your pointer finger with the water bottle's owner and "cut the line" because your saliva got connected or smth lol
I JUST FINISHED WATCHING SPIRITED AWAY and omg it was so guddddd
this was my favorite movie as a child and now that I'm almost 20 it still remains my favorite movie of all time
Idk why I’m sharing this on here but lol, when I was six my mom was hospitalized after a drug overdose brought on by a bipolar episode. I was super distraught and the only thing that could calm me down was this movie. I watched it several times a day, daily. Now that I’m 22, I’ve recently rewatched it, and it brought me to tears. It has a completely new meaning to me.
This movie is always be my number 1 favorite movie
My daughter was three when we first saw it and we easily watched this about 50 times that year. Because of that she started doing a lot of Chihiro's movements like tapping the tip of her shoe after putting them on. She's in high school now and we still watch it together sometimes.
This 107 list was really good! All of the facts were unique and interesting. Nice job!
This was my favorite anime movie back when I was a kid.

"Money witch, which is what i call my landlord" has to be the best thing i heard all year
I honestly don’t like this because she said “oh so if the film jumped of a river you will follow?oh you will.”

This movie is honestly just so beautiful and magical
I never realized the dub version of spirited away is one of or maybe the best dub voice acting I've ever heard
