A family stumbles into the spirit world, the parents eat food they have no right to and get turned into pigs by their greed. The daughter goes to the bath house and the basement man tells her to beg for a job so that she'll have a place to stay and earn food. The old lady who owns the bathhouse gives her a job but steals her name so that she can't leave. She wishes a stink spirit that turns out to be a river spirit that got filled with garbage. It repays her with a medicine ball and leaves. She lets another spirit into the bathhouse that turns out to feed off greed, but wants to simply repay her kindness. Meanwhile, a dragon that has been attacked drops into the bathhouse. She tries to get help for it. The greed spirit has gone nuts and starts trying to eat people until she forced it to eat medicine and puke up corruption. She feeds the rest of the medicine to the river dragon. She runs into the bath owner's baby, and it's guarden, a huge bird with a lady face. The bath owner's witch twin sister (who snuck in) curses it into being a mouse. The girl has to take noh face and the baby mouse all the way to the sister's house to get the curses lifted. It turns out the dragon was a river spirit that remembers her from when she was a baby and almost drowned in his river. That's why he kept trying to help her in the spirit world. This makes the bath owner so happy she offers to free the parents if she can work out which pigs they are. The daughter sees the trick and says none of the pigs in front of her are the parents. This makes everyone happy and her parents are freed, unable to remember anything. The daughter is given her name back and runs through the tunnel to find her parent waiting for her. They drive away.
One of the greatest films ever made in my opinion. Not just animated movies, film. It's magical, engrossing, gripping, emotional, beautiful to no end, and filled with such wonder. This movie is an absolute must watch, even for non-anime fans.
this movie gave that weird sensation of nostalgia, not because of quality but something else, the scenery was so majestic yet captures simplicity at the same time and also gave the feeling of being in a place you’ve felt like you’ve been have never even seen nor appeared.
I feel like that nostalgia represents the worlds we went into as kids in our imaginations while playing and Ghibli movies bring back that feeling of imagination peace and fun
I love that even though this is a parody, there is so much love and care put into this video! I was admittedly nervous to watch because I wasn't sure how you'd introduce your iconic gore (especially with No-Face) but you did a lovely job respecting the movie while also making a legitimately fun parody of it! Wonderful job as always!
It's amazing how you get the vibes of the scenes so perfectly. Idk how to explain, but this is so ghibli and at the same so YOU, it's honestly a delight to watch not only bc your brand of humor cracks me up, but also it's kinda nice how you reference the original work so well.
Fun fact: Spirited Away (2001) earned ¥30.4 billion, and was the highest grossing film in Japanese history before being surpassed by Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train (2020).
Interesting fact: in the original, at the end of the film, the main character does not remember everything that happened to her in the spirit world. Because of what, the ending remains open, whether all this happened true or not; For American viewers, the ending was redone, saying that all this happened in reality. For some reason, the variant with a redone ending was more common.
I think they did that same sort of thing with Kiki’s, in the original release she still couldn’t understand Jiji at the ending scene, but in the same fashion for American viewers, there was an implication with Jiji mewing in his talking voice instead of his cat voice
@@firmak2 I don't think the original version confirmed or denied whether Chihiro remembered what happened, it was supposed to be left to the imagination
@@nanashi2146 i like when games and movies and things leave stuff to the imagination, it can make stuff more interesting or make horror games much more terrifying
well, at the end of the movie the hair bow that Zeniba gave her, shines and you can clearly see it in her hair, I like to think that this is a little wink to the viewer that everything happened.
I remember seeing Spirited Away, and I know it’s one part of many things, but immediately what struck me was Chihiro’s character design. Not conventionally pretty, what media would call ‘homely’ but really she was exactly what she was - a young teenage girl going through that awkward phase in life we’ve all been through. Her features are realistic and down to earth, and it’s so funny that she still stands out even now because every other female anime protagonist just seems generic next to Chihiro, who was deliberately designed to be an average girl! But it was perfect, because her character design grounded her as being ‘real’, and helped her stay contrasted against the fantastic elements and characters who actually have more of the usual anime style exaggerated features.
Well said! I love how they deal with her character development. She goes from a scared, whiney crybaby who wants to stay in her bubble to being more bold, an active participant in the world around her, taking initiative. And they do this gradually, not just "poof" instant fix like some shows/movies do
Warning: At the end of the movie of spirit away she doesn’t actually hug her parents she just runs to them, he added it to make it a little more wholesome.
I love how cas managed to keep this cartoon in a ghibli resembling style- like all jokes and spoofs aside- this was actually really beautiful and nostalgic with all the backgrounds and attention to detail
You’re so right. Just the opening where they’re driving up the hill, the stone wall and greenery has a truly Ghibli watercolour background feel, I knew this would be a good one just from that.
I love how limited the NSFW is because it’s truly a gorgeous film with a fascinating world. The jokes do fit in most of the time because the movie can be a little silly at best. Big thanks and love to the team who worked on this animation with you!

Huh, you ending is actually more wholesome then the original ending. You had Chihiro embrace with her parents, and end it there. Thats actually more heart warming then the movie ending where she jsut meets back up with them, and they just leave. Great video, look forward to more from you.
I think I can explain why Chihiro's parents just say something something and three of them leave the spirit world. That's because: 1) They're typical Asian parents, and Asian parents at that time (1990-2000s) just think simple that their child/children too playful and they're sure that their child/children will comeback in time. 2) They've turn into pigs by the magic of Yubaba, they won't remember anything just like the original movie said.
What a perfect moment to release this piece of masterpiece since I rewatched it a few weeks ago. It's still one of the best anime I had ever watched. Such nostalgia. ❤️

I remember how this movie TRAUMATIZED 2nd-3rd grade me. I went to this gymnastic class after school, and I was surrounded by middle and high schoolers. One day, it was movie night, and I was one of the only elementary grade kids who had shown up, and most of the kids that had shown up were about 13-16. The main leader let them argue over movies, and they finally concluded that Spirited Away would be cool. But, I was a child. A sheltered IPad kid, to be exact. With a one of the worst gag reflexes imaginable. As all of the teenagers I looked up to remembered this fact, they sighed and said they could pick something else. Not wanting to be the reason they couldn’t watch the cool movie they spent 5 minutes fighting over, I quickly said “Oh, it’s fine! My parents let me watch all sorts of things like that anyways, I don’t mind.” My parents, in fact, did not let me watch that type of stuff. But, somehow, through a miracle of luck, they believed me. So we watched it. And it was HORRIFYING (to 2nd grade me, at least). But I never said anything about it to anyone, and it started my obsession with character design, ghosts, symbolism, and anime, so at least that part worked out. (It’s also probably is the thing which gave me the guts to sit through a “FNaF 1 but in Minecraft” gameplay video* without getting freaked out, which ALSO kickstarted my FNaF obsession, so, y’know.) *it was just FNAF 1, but with the models remade for Minecraft, and given worse AI.
I don't know where to begin on how genius this recap was. Definitely some of your finest work. I wonder how many people think that No Face eating someone was an exaggeration.
So nostalgic and yet, it remember me of how studios ghibli made the movie, with the idea of "let's make what seems cool" or something like that. And it came out so perfectly.
Interesting how this one was toned down and was more heartfelt than the other videos. Love it; but this video felt like someone is definitely a Ghibli film fan. Possible this video was kinda a tribute to them starting this channel?
I think it's awesome how you addapted little details and aspects and stuff from the original movie while keeping your style, like how Chihiro's hair spikes up, the way yubaba runs and smokes, or that gentle swirl when haku and chihiro are landing before he smacks her into the floor Also I love the way you showed the fact that noface just goes on a chill trip with chihiro after trying to kill her in an even more awkward way, this is amazing as always
I just watched this movie like 2 weeks ago, this recap is extremely accurate, even with the baby. I love what you guys did on the train scene, it captured the ambience from the movie just right.
Same here. Watched it again about a week ago. I grew up watching this movie as a kid, and the way it abruptly cuts from No-Face chasing Chihiro to the Train is so funny to me personally. Growing up I only ever seemed to remember No-Face being terrifying because it used to give me nightmares XD That's probably why I watched Kiki's Delivery Service more often.
I literally just watched this movie for the first time with my brothers. I can’t wait to see their reactions to this because if I have to suffer from the unwholesome crime against wholesomeness you committed by making this video, then they do too… well done. 👍 Still, the movie alone is scary enough for a child if you ask them to imagine being put in a situation like that, so it’s not that wholesome to begin with until the end, but that’s usually how real life works anyway… it’s about as good as it is bad and vice versa.
I am ecstatic every time I see you made a studio ghibli recap. Having these movies be such an important part of me growing up and then seeing that people care enough to animate something about it, it’s honestly beautiful. If I have one request for the the future it’s that you make a ponyo recap cartoon. I feel like you would have a field day with it, I would probably faint…
This was so good! Usually this channel doesn't really.... give a lot of respect to the characters but I absolutely loved how the lead wasn't messed with a ton. Like the whole driving scenes being exactly that was kinda amazing in how they stayed true to the actual movie, no gimmicks, just love for a beautiful piece of art
1:18 I don't know the original story and for some reason I cannot stop laughing at that scene. "Dad turned to pig. Mom turned to pig. Many pig?" *Girls starts crying*
It's always interesting to see the action moments of a movie turned into your 'unbiased camera' framing. Within these still cameras you do a lot of really good composition within the frame, always very balanced. Putting these kind of constraints brings a lot of creativity but also keeps the projects within scope because you have to be so efficient with every scene.

@@pickles4613 Yes, I translated it into Russian and it turned out there .. the flag of Russia!
日本人居て嬉しくなったよ
Aw man, that was such a beautiful ending with no twist : D
I know!
I thought this was sarcasm, got worried for a sec lol
I love how in spite of the memes and slapstick, you can tell Cas loves this movie and lets scenes breathe like they do in the real movie.
またもやジブリをテーマにした動画にしてくれて嬉しいです!
Cas van de Polさん動画編集お疲れ様です!
これからも応援してます!
I'm glad you made the video with the theme of Ghibli again!
Thank you for editing the video of Mr.Cas van de Pol! I will continue to support you!

3:00 that scene was just flawless
Seeing that he didn’t put a horrible twist to kill Chihiro at the end made me realise how much Cas must love this movie 😊
My parents let me watch all sorts of things like that anyways, I don’t mind.”
My parents, in fact, did not let me watch that type of stuff.
But, somehow, through a miracle of luck,
they believed me.
2:46 moment of silence...
2:43 before silence...
1:57 this scene had me rolling on the ground

I don't know where to begin on how genius this recap was. Definitely some of your finest work. I wonder how many people think that No Face eating someone was an exaggeration.
So nostalgic and yet, it remember me of how studios ghibli made the movie, with the idea of "let's make what seems cool" or something like that.
And it came out so perfectly.
Interesting how this one was toned down and was more heartfelt than the other videos. Love it; but this video felt like someone is definitely a Ghibli film fan. Possible this video was kinda a tribute to them starting this channel?
I love how Haku looks like a Mii character.
I love how pretty this looks, there’s obviously a lot of effort put into this, but you guys also keep me cracking up in every scene.
I think it's awesome how you addapted little details and aspects and stuff from the original movie while keeping your style, like how Chihiro's hair spikes up, the way yubaba runs and smokes, or that gentle swirl when haku and chihiro are landing before he smacks her into the floor
Also I love the way you showed the fact that noface just goes on a chill trip with chihiro after trying to kill her in an even more awkward way, this is amazing as always
I can’t get over how great the backgrounds are in these!
Growing up I only ever seemed to remember No-Face being terrifying because it used to give me nightmares XD
That's probably why I watched Kiki's Delivery Service more often.
I did watch this movie 2 weeks ago also. Such an extremely accurate recap
This is so cool! I sure do hope no one speeds it up, flips it, ups the saturation, and reposts it to twitter without credit!
I think it’s perfect how the ending to this cartoon feels so bittersweet like the ending of the movie. Well done.
I literally just watched this movie for the first time with my brothers. I can’t wait to see their reactions to this because if I have to suffer from the unwholesome crime against wholesomeness you committed by making this video, then they do too… well done. 👍
Still, the movie alone is scary enough for a child if you ask them to imagine being put in a situation like that, so it’s not that wholesome to begin with until the end, but that’s usually how real life works anyway… it’s about as good as it is bad and vice versa.
1:40 that Uuuh got me 🤣

I am ecstatic every time I see you made a studio ghibli recap. Having these movies be such an important part of me growing up and then seeing that people care enough to animate something about it, it’s honestly beautiful. If I have one request for the the future it’s that you make a ponyo recap cartoon. I feel like you would have a field day with it, I would probably faint…
My favourite film ever, well done man!
Me too
Same
This was so good!
I love how cozy Cas's artstyle is compared to what happens in their animations
You can tell he was raised by Ghibli movie, given the latter usually make slice of life movie
4:07 Ok now I want that as my pc wallpaper
It's always interesting to see the action moments of a movie turned into your 'unbiased camera' framing.
Within these still cameras you do a lot of really good composition within the frame, always very balanced.
Putting these kind of constraints brings a lot of creativity but also keeps the projects within scope because you have to be so efficient with every scene.
What a coincidence, I recently finished Sprited Away for the first time. Definitely really imaginative and charming movie.
Spirited away is my fav movie I’m so glad u made it as a mini recap
2:35 and on.....y,yeah that nailed it. One moment of chaos then suddenly just sitting.
0:32 Did nobody mention that Haku looks like a Mii with arms now?
At this point I’m excited for a “Howl’s moving castle” version, because that movie was really good too.
I can't stop laughing at big baby's appearance. 😆 That brought back memories of early UA-cam.
This was more… calm and accurate than your normal stuff.
this movie is absolutely god-tier and i couldn't be happier that you made a cartoon on it
Ok lust letter guy
I did not walk I RAN to see this. I love studio Ghibli and especially your work! So good! ♡
Parents: *barely remember anything from the events*
Chihiro: I need therapy after this
Whoa! The ending was wholesome( except for the witch)! This was great! Can't wait to see your take on Mononoke or Castle of Cagliostro!
I absolutely love studio Ghibli movies. They are probably some of the greatest movies of all time.
Haku being a mii.... I have no clue why I find it hilarious.
Even the recap parody had the same energy as I have watched it years and years ago
This movie holds such a special place in my heart. One of my first memories was watching it with my dad
Could be that this is one of the most soft Cas' animations but was really beautiful. And i love it.
This is the funniest one yet. Especially No face moaninf out of no where at 1:42 😭
これは最高ですし、好きですし、千と千尋の神隠しのキャラクターも最高ですし、好きです。
This has to be the best recap so far I stg. Outstanding work, the visuals are so good and the humor hits so hard
