- It's been a while since doing one of these. This is a final test fire for the gun, so just showing it working and safe all gussied up.
Had one failure to fire out of over 100 rounds, and I suspect it was slightly out of battery.
This particular Mauser had lots of issues at first. To get it reliable is a major achievement. I'll have the story in a show off video soon.
I also wanted to add… oiling the ammo on this gun, was a trick Jerry Miculek showed me while we were filming the TV show when I built their Live Fire Han Solo.
We had issues with the old chambers being pretty worn and rough, and most of this ammo just doesn’t feed well. So He showed me and said to oil the ammo and it’ll help with failures to extract and feed, etc.
There’s no oil getting on the primers as the back of each round is protected by the stripper clip.
Yes it slings oil, but cleanup is easier than a bunch of cakes on powder.
I took his recommendation and still use… but only for these old Mausers that are modified with all the weight of the steel bull barrel, booster, and flash hider.
MY regular Mausers, ESB, I do not need to do this at all. They function perfectly well pretty dry.
Apparently there's plenty of people in the comments that a) didn't read your description, b) knows your own gun better than you, c) knows all about the dangers of oiling your ammo better than you (and Jerry Miculek), and d) must warn you about the danger of oil affecting the primers (despite your comment, see point a), despite the fact that you're loading and IMMEDIATELY firing the ammo with no time for the oil to seep into the primers.

As a keyboard warrior myself, and a retired member of MEAL team six.... I loved you comment. To be honest, i was perplexed by the oiling BUT I read the video description before opening my pie hole.

Plus the fact that oil wont seep into most modern gun rounds to begin with wth, neither will water.

I've never seen someone lubricate the ammo like that. I feel like you are asking for it to get caked up with residue from the firing process.
@@PolishBigfootCircle11 Actually it aids in extraction and feed on these old mechanisms. Messy, but effective. A trick Jerry Miculek taught me while I was working on his TV show and we were shooting the one I built for them.
I seen old time cops lube up ammo like this. Seen it more than once and the ammo would not function right at times due to oil getting into the primers. I just shook my head.

You are right about oil making the primers go bad, but he’s shooting these rounds on a range, not carrying them to be used in self defense.

He is making sure the action is fully closed
@@rez4958 yes, just basically making sure it’s closing up all the way. The action has to overcome a lot of extra weight. You’ll also see in the coming video talking about it that this particular gun has issues with being way too tight from being bent up. So I was trying to be sure everything was doing what it should.
When I was a kid I would have given anything for that! I used to think the 30 Mauser was the coolest damn gun. I didn't know much about them, but I don't care for them now, they're not very practical even for their time, they were revolutionary, but still not great, like the 1911, but anyway this one is badass!

@@drivingdaily582 for sighting absolutely zero. Totally useless it's just an adornment for Star wars. As a scope it's still functions 100% perfectly fine. Great optics actually.

DIY tracers what could possibly go wrong
Some Bullseye shooters put a drop of oil on the first round in a magazine if they are shooting some rimfire match ammo to help lubricate the chamber. It is an old trick. Massad even mentions it in an old issue of American Handgunner.
I am sure this fella lubing his ammo at the range is fine. Would I lube ammo and store it, no. I am sure he knows that too. It is a really cool range toy not his EDC.
Or maybe he does because nothing beats a good blaster at your side, kid.

What the _Hell_ are you doing? Don't _ever_ put that much lubrication into a firing system, you'll blow the fucking thing up.
Failing to see how oil will blow up a gun. Older mechanisms work better when lubed up.
@@benrunyan1734 Allow me to teach you then. Over lubricating can cause the fire control group to malfunction causing double feeds, failure to eject and other issues depending on the specific orientation of the bolt face, trigger mechanism and ejector. Now you know...
@@eamonia As replied and added to the description, This particular gun, and others like it when modded with extra weight, steel bull barrel, booster, and flash hider… the action has a tough time coping with the weight. The chambers, and surfaces aren’t anywhere near as smooth as modern guns at all. This was a trick Jerry Miculek used and taught me while we were shooting for the his TV show when I built their Han Solo gun. We had issues with extraction with dry rounds, and had some failures, so he pulled this trick out of the bag and it worked 100%.

Mind explaining how? Because ive seen over a dozen videos disproving that very myth, you could drop a handgun in a vat of oil and immediately pick it up and rapid fire it and nothing will happen besides oil spraying everywhere.

Looked great and seemed like it ran great. How was the accuracy?
@@PunchCatcher as accurate as you can shoot it. With no front sight it’s a learning process to find a hold but it’ll shoot straight. The thing is the extra weight and lack of easy to see marker for a target hold. But I can get decent-ish groups
