On Sunday, July 3, 2022, parts of a mountain glacier collapsed in the Italian Alps. The avalanche took place on the Marmolada, which at more than 3,300 meters is the highest mountain in the Dolomites, a range in the eastern Italian Alps straddling the regions of Trento and Veneto.
Video filmed from a refuge close to the incident show a mix of snow and rock hurtling down the mountain's slopes and causing a thunderous noise. Other footage shot by tourists on their mobile phones showed the greyish avalanche sweep away everything in its path.
Helicopters were scrambled to take part in the rescue operation and to monitor the situation from the air. Rescuers in the nearby Veneto region of northeast Italy said they had deployed all their Alpine teams, including sniffer dogs.
The avalanche struck one day after a record-high temperature of 10 degrees Celsius was recorded at the glacier's summit. Experts said they feared further collapses of ice.
According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, melting ice and snow is one of 10 major threats caused by global warming, disrupting ecosystems and infrastructure.
The channel lists such natural disasters as:

@@Alfakkin yes I know, but I find rather "bizarre" (and I am using an euphemism) that a FB video on what happened on the Marmolada does not relate at all to the sadness of the human lives lost in this tragic accident.
Why would they have to mention that. If the reporters interest was in why it happened, that's fair.

The climate has been changing for 15 thousand years. Unless cavemen had cars you're going to have to come up with a better explanation. Also the CO2 in the atmosphere 200 million years ago was 10 times higher.

@@Ehkaima, perhaps I should have clarified myself in my original statement. Things like this have happened worldwide in mountainous areas since the beginning of time. You maybe are a skier or snowboarder or do those both. If you are be safe doing these winter sports with your family, grandkids, etc. Unfortunately for me my skiing days may approaching ending for me because of various medical problems. If I was more healthy and have money, I would be interested in skiing in Italy, Switzerland, Austria as a winter vacation.

However, geologically speaking glacial lake collapses are something which has happened countless times in our planet’s history. In fact, the Columbia River Gorge, which separates Oregon and Washington, was likely created by the cataclysmic collapse of an ancient glacial lake, which covered a massive portion of present day Northwest Montana.
It was not a glacial lake but the glacier itself

However, it seems that Mont Blanc [on the French side] is starting to melt its permafrost and that the so-called ''eternal'' Mont Blanc is starting to collapse...

What rubbish. Glaciers are inherently unstable. They "collapse" under all weather and temperature conditions depending on the degree of the slope, the rate at which the glacier is moving (more snow and ice in a glacier provide weight that forces a glacier to flow down hill, more weight translates to faster flow), and the support (or lack thereof) provided by the substrate over which it is traveling. This is a natural process and has nothing to do with "climate change" nonsense. "Climate change" conveniently accounts for heat and cold, more precipitation and less precipitation, receding glaciers and advancing glacier (advancing glaciers produce catastrophes such has in this instance), and every other weather phenomenon you can think of. How very convenient.
