We loved the program as well. I did use the teacher guide and it was amazing. Basically I followed the flow of discussing the vocabulary words then reading the story and follow by the questions they provided (not all) and did many of the activities. We really enjoyed it. I plan to use it with my younger two kids.
I used the grade 1 reading for my daughter this year. She really enjoyed it and honestly did it completely independently. I already have grade 2 ready for next year and she’s looking forward to it.
Thank you for sharing this! I was already interested in switching to this curriculum and am feeling even more drawn to it after seeing what it looks like!
I have enjoyed seeing this and was glad to see this. I have been thinking of using BJU this next year. My oldest will be second grade and second kindergarten. I used BJU myself only in high school cuz the school i went too and been interested in their curriculum this coming year
We have the first reader because my daughter saw the pretty owl cover and RAN to it in the store. Thank you for the flip through. It looks like a great program.
It’s so cute how they only care about the cover 😅 my daughter told me when she saw them she was ONLY doing the seahorse book, then warmed up to the owl book, “but that’s all I’m doing” 😂🤣
Once they got past 1st grade and could read fluently we didn’t really use Abeka readers anymore for any of them. I used to have the Abeka readers for 2nd grade but my older 2 didn’t like them (there was nothing wrong with them they just wanted to read their own things). I will say, my daughter who is in 2nd now actually asked to do the Abeka readers for 2nd grade this year because she really loved the ones from last year, but I’m glad we went the BJU (I pulled rank on that one lol). She LOVES the reading and although she doesn’t love every page of the activity book, she still enjoys it overall and it has been good practice. I personally like the BJU readers better only for a visual standpoint…they change up what the illustrations look like to keep it feeling like you’re reading different books all of the time, whereas Abeka, they mostly all look the same. But at the end of the day, Abeka is still really solid and they both will get the job done.
I love this! We do the good and the beautiful language arts but i'd love to add this. I'm just not sure how to do that without overwhelming my daughter though.
We don’t do TGTB reading, this is her reading. And many of the comprehension pages for the BJU reading book I do orally with my daughter. She mainly does the other ones (phonics, etc) by herself. But I find that helps it feel like there is not so much on her plate
This looks great!! Now I’m torn between this one of Rod and Staff. Two very different styles. I only have one more elementary child, my 2nd grader and that’s it… so lately I’ve been so stressed out about choosing curriculum because I want to do them all but I only have one more to get it right at this age group 😢 Anyway, I appreciate this video!, thanks!
Definitely considering using this with my youngest, he is only 3 right now, but it’s in my top 3 for him. I am planning, as of now to not really focus on grammar until 3rd grade. I’ve been reading that students can easily “catch up” with grammar and I plan to make sure that the reading and comprehension is solid before introducing grammar. I would use this as a language arts for 2nd graders. Maybe have them write in a daily journal as well. And continue reading aloud many other books. Between science and history added on as well, I think this would be plenty.
We’ve always used TGAB for LA but I’m considering BJU for my third grader next year or maybe a combo of both like you did… Will you use level 3 next year? Do you just skip TGAB reading portion? This does look pretty in depth! I think it could probably work as a full curriculum for some kids.
Hi, notice this video is not showing up under your latest video. Maybe you should check that out . I found it when I was browsing your playlist section.
They have a whole grammar/language/writing curriculum for 2nd grade too. This is just the reading part and use the good and the beautiful for her main language.
@@thepracticalhomeschoolerthat’s genius. I think I will do that too for my little one. I like the selection of the readers from BJU more. Are you going to do an in-depth video of what you will do for next year for just 2nd grade? I know you have been doing bits of science and others here and there.
@@melisasantiago5420 next year she’ll be in 3rd grade. If you’re looking for 2nd, I shared those videos last spring and you can find them in my curriculum play list. Otherwise I’ll be sharing what she will be doing for 3rd in a couple months 😊

O nice! I’m sure the teacher guide was done really well too!
My daughter loved this reading program. 1st bju subject we used and it was excellent.
It’s such a good one! 😊

It’s lovely ❤ glad this helped!
@@thepracticalhomeschooler i had the grade 1 version when i was 6 years old and still have it!
This reminds me of the Abeka readers....we love them! I now have to add this for our youngest, very cute, thanks for sharing!

I have 3rd and 4th grade…would you be interested in that?
@@thepracticalhomeschooler yes I’m very interested because those are the exact levels for my girls. Thanks for asking
This was so helpful! Taking my son out of school after this year and homeschooling for 2nd grade😊
I know you’ve used Abeka reading program with several girls; how would you compare this to Abeka’s reading program.
Was going to ask the same thing!
Same question!!!

Pigging off on this question, I love your videos by the way! So do you do TGTB LA? I didn’t love LA with BJU?
@@luisamartinez-montano2116 for my 2nd grader, yes! My older ones use BJU
BJU Press has been in my mind since you mentioned it on a previous video. It’s just so expensive 😭
I get that! It depends on what you purchase. You can also try to find items like teacher keys and reading books used on eBay and facebook
Do you think you could use reading 1 as a full curriculum to teach reading or do you HAVE to use the phonics and English with it?
I haven’t don’t their reading one so I couldn’t give an honest answer to that 😕
Are you using tgtb for math?

Yes this video has been released yet publicly. I’m not even sure how you’re viewing it yet…UA-cam is strange sometimes!

What would you recommend as a grammar substitute for learning sentence structure and things like that?

Do your kids do BJU English, Spelling, and Reading?
6th grader - BJU grammar and writing
4th grader - BJU grammar writing and spelling
2nd grader - BJU reading only (TGTB for language/spelling)
