    Hey, this video is not for me because I speak dutch. But I too homeschool my kids and I just want to say that I listened a lot of your podcasts and watched alot of your videos. I love that you always put God first. That's what I try to do also. You look great and I'm happy you're back. Lots of love from Belgium 🌹

    Hi it’s wonderful to have you back! Pray God continue to strengthen you.🙏🏽
    Question: How feasible is it to utilize the BJU reading without the teacher’s manual?

    • @JanelleKnutson
      @JanelleKnutson  6 місяців тому

      It's certainly possible to use the newer editions of the BJU Press reading curriculum without a teacher's manual but I think you would miss some aspects of the teaching/instruction. The newer editions have the literature/reading concepts in with the readers along with reading comprehension questions. Older editions of the readers only include the stories so you would have to have the teacher edition to know what concepts to teach. I hope that makes sense. Please ask a follow up question if I wasn't clear. :) And thank you for your prayers! It's good to be back and feeling a little better.

      I recommend one of these two:

      Logic of English

    Thank you for the video! I did BJU reading 1 with my daughter this past year. She enjoyed it, but I was kind of questioning how much it really helped her. Listening to your review and your take on teaching your kids to read, really encouraged me that it is building those 'extra' reading skills beyond just how to read. We will continue on to reading 2 next year:)

      Great questions! I am currently using AAR and AAS for phonics, spelling, and learning to read (with my 2nd and 4th grader). I use BJU Reading for the reading comprehension, literature concepts and analyzing/critical thinking skills. There is defiantly some overlap with AAR and BJU Reading. For example, AAR does cover some reading comprehension and teach some basic literature concepts and BJU Press does review phonics and reading skills. I find that using both AAR and BJU Reading helps my struggling readers grow in their reading/decoding skills (with AAR) while still being able to move forward with literature concepts and critical thinking/analyzing skills (with BJU Reading). I know many kids complete all 4 of the AAR levels sooner than my boys and would do great just using AAS and AAR and then when finished with AAR, move to BJU Press Reading or another reading/literature program. Using both has been a great fit for my boys but it certainly isn't the way to go for everyone. :)

      Thank you so much!! I have been torn between the two and was wondering if it would be to much to do both at the same time.

    Very helpful video. Thank you! How long does reading take each day with the distance learning program? Also, what subjects do you use bju for? Our state will be implementing an ESA program that requires testing, so I feel I need to improve my daughter's reading comprehension. I'm unsure of how to do that. She is in 3rd/4th and I feel lost. She knows how to read, but I'm unsure of what direction to go now.

      BJU Press Reading would be a great option for improving reading comprehension. If you use the video lessons then you are looking at around 20-30 minutes a day (video lessons are up to 20 minutes in length and then you have the time to read the passages and do the worksheet). If you do teacher led, then it would take less time.
      I use different BJU subjects with different kids. My 2nd and 4th grader use almost all BJU Press curriculum. Older kids use it for a few subjects. You can find my curriculum choices on my blog for a more detailed list of what each child uses. Here's a link to my blog... just scroll down a bit to find the curriculum choice posts. www.janelleknutson.com/category/curriculum/
      Hope that helps!
