I miss our Curly Coat! He died around 10 years ago (he died of cancer, started in his toe but spread to his lungs and other organs) but he was pretty perfect. We got him when I was around 4, and he was wonderful. He didn't care about me or my friends running around and playing (he did get my teddy's nose and a barbie arm when he was a baby). His only issues were later in life he developed epilepsy and he got a little dog aggressive (fear based and NEVER turned on a human). He got a slipped disc in his back and someone let their boxer come running across the main village road and bounced on him while he was in severe pain, and he reacted. He then, when he was in pain, was leery with other dogs, never our other one though. And would let vets and everyone poke and prod him and never made a muff or move. RIP Hoover.
my first Curly succumbed to Immune mediated hemolytic anemia (8 years old), a terrible end to the best dog I ever had, my second is a joy to have, a rescue from a shelter and never shy about sharing the love he has. By far and away the most rewarding breed I have come across.
Miss our curly coat. He was absolutely an amazingly smart dog and LOVED to swim in the summer and play in the snow in Winter. He was gentle with the kids but strangers had him on his guard and training him while frustrating at times was always rewarding. The biggest issue was making sure he was groomed properly all the time.
I have my lovely big boy curly (Toby) sleeping at my feet. Your description seems pretty accurate except for one thing....my dog is bigger at 52kg. The vet says he is not fat and he is very strong. Is this unusual?
Hello, did i missed to credit some of your photos Mattias? I know i used some of your photos from Wiki Commons, but i tried to credit them all. If you can tell me which one i missed, i can give you credit for them additionally to the video description.
I fell in love with the Curly Coated Retriever and I am going to buy one as soon as possible. I would be interested in a last question: Does the Curly smell strongly of dog like Golden Retrievers do? Many curly-haired dogs often do not smell typically like dogs. Thanks if someone answers! 🐕🐶
From my experience, they do not smell as the Golden Retrievers, but they do have some smell. Of course, this mainly dependes on their health and the fur condition.
Poodles and curlies are not related... while IWS and CCR are much closely related comparing CCR and other retrievers... GSDIIIa is almost gone, while epi is a huge problem. They are watch dogs, not guard dogs. There are some things that can be compared to a Chessie but in general they are like night and day... Distichiasis is a problem in tollers, not curlies... (not in that kind of extend at least)...
I have one. They are very loving. But they have puppy behavior until they are two to three year old. They are problem solvers. One dog I had examined every plastic bag I brought into the house. I found rubber bands and a ripped bag on the floor. The table was too wide for her. Then I saw the chair next to the table was pushed out. Another one chased a dog that growled at me.
Is the Curly Coated Retriever your favourite breed?

@@Rocadog Ok thank you very much. All is perfect 🫠
They are actually the tallest of the retrievers as well
To end of the video is that curly coated retriever with cropped ears??
No 😉 just a floppy ear due to running

I think you are right in that distinction. Our boy is a hellishly loud doorbell!
