      What utter nonsense … Lego must pay for the whole development process … the most expensive part of the product … designing and creating a functioning brick model … the whole development process costs a lot of money … this the fake set sellers bypass as they steal it and sell for a discount as they only manufacture plastic bricks and manual based upon Lego’s development … thats not competition! Thats theft and morally disgusting! Developing a quality product costs money … you do not have to buy Lego products … you can buy no name … and their own developments that they do not steal from Lego look like absolute crap … you simply want a high end product but do not want premium prices for premium products …

      The legit competitors out there, like Funwhole and Pantasy, are already offering just what you say: original (and where appropriate, licensed) sets that are super high quality and far cheaper than Lego, typically with all prints instead of stickers, fully integrated lights in the case of Funwhole, etc. With Lego's quality issues and crazy pricing, it's good to know there are legit and awesome alternatives out there now. No reason or need to stick with Lego only.

    I bought a fake Orient Express for $48 because i wanted a train with 4 carriages and spending $600 scared me, and it is 99% there. It is so close other than the figs which I do not care about that I am highly impressed, the gold stripe printing is FAR BETTER on the fake than the real one where it is bent, the fakes printing is perfectly straight. I was a "Lego Only" purist after some awful experience 15 years ago with bricks that would not stay together, now I will buy any not Lego. Buying Not Lego when you are into trains is pretty much the norm now, it is "fitted as standard" with most train MOCers I know because trying to get certain Lego pieces is either impossible or will bankrupt you. There are some train windows and doors where you would need to take out a mortgage to buy them, or maybe Lego never did the piece in the color you want, or the track pieces with wider curves and cross points. So many pieces to do with trains you now can get, you just have to buy not Lego, and I am now cool with that. I bought another Emerald Night, $25 instead of $700 for the Lego one, and it is 99% there and looks spectacular, its so good I just bought another so my train now will have 3 carriages...and i cant wait to see it running.
    Spectacular vid! a 100% ten outa ten vid...have fun building.

Crazy part is if u buy off someone on marketplace of ebay u have to make sure they just dont switch the outside studded pieces u can see with real lego pieces then sell it as a Lego. Have to actually take random pieces apart and check underneath now when u buy something like a retired Town Hall which can sell for $400-500 used. Something that muddies the 'moral' argument is the fact Lego gives away their instructions, for free, on day one of release. So if you have a sufficiently large parts inventory at home you can build a reasonable facsimile of any lego model without needing to pay lego anything more. So in a sense these clone sets are just providing you with the required inventory to build a model - now that argument does fall down somewhat when they also include unique elements, printed tiles and stickers. However, I did recently buy the 2015 Shuttle Tyderium from Ali-Express, that was just a bag of parts; no stickers, no instructions, no minifigs. It's pretty rare to find those though.
    Personally I love the knock-off sets, but generally try to avoid anything still in production by Big L. Once it's retired though, I have no qualms about getting it.

    • @jkbuilders2000
      @jkbuilders2000  5 місяців тому +2

      That’s true but if build something from parts you aren’t doing so to turn around and make a profit. The knockoff companies are stealing the design to sell and make money. I get what you’re saying tho and I agree about the retired stuff to, that’s a different story.

    I love "official" Lego. HOWEVER, many of the "off-brand" sets today are so close in build experience, quality and representation (display-ability) that it's very difficult to justify some of the price differentials. Speaking only for myself, my Logo budget these days isn't what it used to be so, $85 vs $230 with minimal differences all the way around? That makes 'Some' off-brands a no-brainer. I've built many Lego and non-Lego sets and in most cases my friends literally cannot immediately recognize one from the other until I point out which is which and they're like, WHAT? Funwhole and Pantasy make amazing sets. Investors haven't been increasing the prices, demand has. If people weren't will to pay such crazy prices for new and retired Lego, the resellers would have nothing to do. And the huge glut of investors/resellers in the last few years has actually supressed aftermarket prices and made it easier for people to find sealed, mint, retired sets.

    • @jeffc4862
      @jeffc4862 15 днів тому

      @@SO-ym3zs I disagree. While there is certainly some tugging back and forth, as recently as 2014, Lego was still being sold on sights like Ebay for reasonable 'used' prices that rarely to never eclipsed their retail list. It was the 'investors' that began using the 'buy it now' feature and listing higher prices - when ebay began generalizing listings (you would list under an existing description instead of creating your own), that's when 'investors' bumped up their pricing again and began noting condition/packaging/new in box etc... At that time, people were still going for the lesser expensive listings/auctions, AND the investors began to aggressively pursue purchasing lesser expensive listed models themselves to in turn relist them at higher prices to 'increase value' (a very common tactic with Comic and Collectables stores).
      This tactic caused many casual/nostalgic collectors to drop out, and resellers would continue to 'relist' models repeatedly that wouldn't sell, or would drop the prices significantly to move inventory.
      Presently, I DO think their are more affluent collectors willing to pay higher prices for prized models, and the 'investors' pay attention and bump their pricing based on one or two higher purchase amounts, but many models end up sitting until the pricing goes down, or there's a listing that undercuts the investors and sells immediately. Some are willing to 'play the game', while many decide to pass, or 'keep their eyes out'. There's still a large market for older Lego no doubt, but it's still limited to fans, and now many enthusiasts that just want to build and display are beginning to jump into alt. brands.

    I decided to get into modulars when the corner garage was retired. Bought 3 of those sets when WM and BB clearanced them. For me to get the retired releases, I had to buy KO versions. Only set I can't seem to get is the fire brigade. Even the Chinese can't keep those in stock. All my modulars since are LEGO only. I won't mix them up...seems weird to do so. Only time I'll get Chinese bricks are unique modular styled builds that aren't produced by LEGO. Though I build MILs plates strictly using LEGO bricks so those are the exception when i use genuine with KO bricks.

    I bought a fake Lego Titanic icon set for around £100 delivered from China and it's indistinguishable from the real thing - other than the missing Lego logo on the studs. It is theft though. Companies like Mould King and CADA are now doing their own official designs/sets (mainly 1/8 scale supercar Technic models), so they're not really fake - but still a third of the price as the Lego equivalents.

    I get that investing in the design and the build quality does add to the cost, but given that the differential is usually at a factor of 5 or more, in no way is the price justified. Most of it is just price gouging.

    yes you feel fake lego building experience on your fingers, yes they are similar, yes they are 2-3 times cheaper, but you do not get that magic that real lego has. you pay premium for that magic. fake lego is for poor parent kids. even on this not the best quality video you can tell which is real lego at first glance. colors are much beter on a real lego. Fake lego is poor man lego.

    I can't stand these fake sets. Anyone who's buying them is literally supporting the stole designs from Lego. Don't call yourself a fan if you do this. If something is too expensive, just live without it. But using the excuse of something being too expensive is a joke, in my opinion.

      I disagree I like all the buildings but not pay $1000_$1500 on a set.. I am a Lego fan for over 40years when the prices are s##t over priced what do you expect?

      @@southwestsellerss147 Just supply and demand unfortunately but I don't blame anyone for buying the knockoffs. I should have mentioned retired sets in the video. I also should have discussed how Lego sets will go up in value where the knockoffs will drop in value, especially when they're opened.

      @southwestsellerss147 so because the set is too expensive, you're ok buying from a company that literally stole from another company? Especially one that you've been a fan of for 40 years?
