The Correct name of the town is Wimborne Minster, named after the Minster church in the centre of town and which you can see in the video above the rooftops at 2.05 on.The Minster is dedicated to St Cuthburga, sister of Ina King of Wessex. She founded a Benedictine Nunnery here around 705 AD; there may also have been a monastery. Nuns from Wimborne were sent to Germany with St Boniface of Crediton (c. 680-755) to help convert the pagan tribes. As a result, Wimborne still has a special link with the town and Benedictine nunnery of Ochsenfuhrt. In 871, Alfred the Great buried his brother Ethelred here (not the later King of England Ethelred] Wimborne Minster is on the river Allen which you drive over at 1.58.There is a renowned Folk Festival here every summer attended by around 20,000 people. Also a famous model town which is passed on the left at 2.45. The Tivoli Theatre is on your left at 3.50 and many well known stars hone their acts here before they go on a nationwide tour. The Tivoli is also a cinema. It is run mostly by volunteers. Wimborne Town FC are also a successful football team having won the FA Vase at Wembley in the past. They have just moved to a brand new stadium, New Cuthbury, on the outskirts of the team. They play in the Southern League Premier South. Wimborne Minster is near to Poole and Bournemouth and a great place to live.
