The *main* side effect I've discovered, is the ability to sleep pain free for 8 hours, then waking not in any pain and being able to mainly keep the pain under control all day.
You call that a side effect? Isn't that what Tramal is about, taking away pain? I am glad you can sleep for all those hours pain free. I just typed up my story associated with it. Have you forgotten to take it? How do you feel if/when you forget?
I like many others have been on tramadol for years. I take 2 50mg, one to two times a day. I have fibromyalga, degenerative disk disease, and neuropathy caused by a cancer treatment. I function just fine on tramadol and just posted a 3.538 GPA as a full time college student. I cannot walk without tramadol because the pain gets to be too much. I am not addicted to tramadol. I am addicted to being a normal functioning human Stage 4 Cancer Surviving, Neuropathy beating, Painless college student who is almost done with her Associates in History degree at 46 years old.

I am a CRPS, severe arthritis, severe PCOS and Endometriosis, Lipoedema resilience expert who completed her Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience degree last year (my BA Hons was in History)! It may have taken me a bit longer and with need for some modified assessments that worked more safely with my needs, but I succeeded. My body does not rule me and my future, and tramadol is tool I use carefully at need, under medical supervision, that helps me to continue living a purpose-filled and contributing life when my pain flares.
Logically if your body Is in too much pain to walk do you really think taking a pill to numb your body and walking is actually going to help. Meaning your body is telling you not to walk and if you Block the pain signals in the nerves with drugs and still walk you're going to destroy your body even further. pain is a great indicator of your body's tolerance and telling you what not to do you. don't mask it with drugs. Pain is a literal tool to Preserve humans live as part of natural selection you don't block it out.
Some therapist uses this drug to help with depression. For myself, stronger drugs like vicadin do not work for me and otc could possibly work if I double the dose I’m scared to think what could happen to me. This doctor mentions slowing down nerve signals but helps with my ptsd symptoms
Many have repported that when you take opiates and actually have pain you do not get addicted, it is when they take opiates and have mild or no pain you get addicted it seems...

@@juliebryant3968 go to your family doctor for starters and tell them what problems you are having and ask to be referred to a neurologist. Sometimes the doctor will perform an MRI. I have had MS at a very young age and didn't get diagnosed till I was 42yrs old. I've taken Tramadol as needed for MS pain for about 5 yes now. I have severe almost screaming pain at times with no warning. Other medications were not working. My new APRN told me that according to the Neurological Society that I should be taking a antidepressant in combination with my muscle relaxer... that worked for about 3 months and stopped working for me. Now I have to take Tramadol along with a combination of other meds. I wished doctors would quit downplaying what real pain is !!!!
@@juliebryant3968 I know a woman who was diagnosed with MS years ago and was taking tramadol and other drugs for it. Last year they did some more tests. It seems the lesion on her brain had not changed or grown. It wasn't MS. She went through hell reducing the medication until she stopped so they could see what her actual symptoms were and could rule out the symptoms that were a result of the medication alone. A difficult journey. She seems much happier now. It was a huge shock to her to discover, after all of that time that she didn't have MS though.
I take 75 MG, generally in the morning, if I am going to go out running errands, then one 50 MG @ evening/night, I have been doing this for 5 yrs since I was diagnosed with sero-negative rheumatoid , joint, degenerative and osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia. The only " side effect " is I can function doing what I need to do without being in skin crawling, screaming pain. I hope I never have to stop taking it. I am grateful my doctor found something that works for me 👍💊

I'm on 200mg slow release at night. I can't describe how wonderful it is to sleep the whole night pain free instead of tossing and turning, waking up several times in pain and even when I'm asleep, I *dream* of the pain.
I took two tramadol 5 hours ago and recently out of nowhere felt dizzy, nauseous, confused and I got the shakes with an increased heart rate. I found this video really helpful and it put my mind at ease. I’ll be more careful with it next time.
There's nothing wrong with this medication if not abused. I've been taking it for well over 10 years for degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis pain. As well as I don't need the highly powerful anti depressants that mostly left me in a comatose state of mind. And lastly I am so sick of these doctors and groups of people that want to wage war on medications that truly help people live with a better quality of life yet these same people that complain the loudest are not going through debilitating pain and other health issues. So please stop your excessive crying and complaining.
Exactly! It’s the only med that works for me! My muscles ache from my spine .. this take the edge off and allows me to move! Gives me some energy! My dr who is great prescribes this for me! If she retires, I’m 🤷🏻♀️ why because of people that abuse!!

I have been on tramadol for ten years 50mg x 4 times per day. I suffer from psoriatic arthritis and also Lyme disease. High levels of joint and muscle pain. Much relief from this medication. I have read that the heart can be affected but at my age of 69 I’m not too worried. Tramadol has given me my life back.
@@olivier-pierredebelmont.3630 I’m normally pretty careful about meds. Almost my entire first 60 years I took nothing at all and I mean nothing. Maybe a little ibuprofen for headache or fever. But I have arthritis as I said plus lyme. Frustratingly it comes and goes but between the tramadol and CBD, I am pretty good and also physically active into my “golden years”. I count every single day as a blessing and I do not worry about how long I may live. I am ready to deal with whatever comes my way. Blessings to you and yours! 🙏🏻

I've been on Tramadol for 6 years for back pain & honestly, it works about as good as ibuprofen. Absolutely rediculous that people in real pain can't get anything stronger. So over it all. Most days I just spend in sever pain praying for it all to end.
I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. You need to go to a new doctor ASAP. Tramadol is great in certain cases but if it's not helping then patients deserve to be reevaluated and given stronger meds.
Yeah. Tramadol was pretty much useless to me. I had open heart surgery and my dad told the Dr.s that I was a drug addict. He has no idea. So I smoked pot in high-school. At the time of my surgery, I hadn't even seen an illegal drug in ten years.
That was my experience too. I have fairly severe dextroscoliosis with rotation. I was given 10mg. of tramadol and told that would be for only a short time. I will have this deformed back for a lifetime, and the dosage did nothing. Doctor need to ask which is worse for a patient's health, dependency on opiates but a reasonably active life, or becoming bedridden and non functional. I personally would rather live a useful life.
I've been taking Tramadol for years. I've had absolutely no side effects, at all. I'm also prescribed Gabapentin for pain. This is for arthritis in my spine, hip joints and knees. I get really good pain relief from these meds. I have been taking the prescribed dose for years and it still works. You don't need to take more and more!
Physician prescribed Tramadol for a mild undiagnosed neurological problem. He prescribed one pill every 4 to 6-hours. However, I discovered that 1 or only ½ pill per day worked well. I felt mildly euphoric. I read an article on Tramadol addiction ... I got concerned. I joined “Narcotics Annon” ... I was almost laughed out of the group, because I was concerned about ONE pill per day. I quit the medication anyway.
As a nurse for 17 years I’m here to tell y’all when it comes to medicine One size does not fit all. Some people are very sensitive to certain or even all medications. And they are gorked out and sedated or even get sick by small or normal doses. And some people can eat pills like they were PEZ. And still no relief. No need to doubt or laugh at someone over this. Everyone experience things differently. More things need to be accepted at face value.
I have tramadol for when my pain on rare occasions is too much. After a couple of days I start looking forward to taking it at night because of the euphoric feel I experiencel. At that point I realize, time to stop taking the tramadol, I am enjoying it too much.
I've been taking tramadol for years for restless legs. Works great for me but, as he said it's very addictive. Have weaned myself off twice because didn't want to get up to a high dose. Very hard to do. Even at a low dose of 50-100 mg a day. I couldn't imagine having to stop at a high dose. Hard to say if the trade off is worth it or not. Don't get hooked on this stuff! It's hell to get off it.

For irritating apply calamine lotion at bedtime and for body heat drink 3 cucumber blend together with its skin. Reduce by 10mg a week. It really works. Dont take any other tablets for withdrawal.
Take 5mg Valium p day for legs. You can skip any time. I took it on and off for years for my legs. It's better now. And I just stopped the Valium as I wished.
I was given this drug by a dentist. I took my first pill and took a nap. I took my second pill according to directions. I was in the emergency room the next day because I couldn't stop throwing up. I experienced every adverse side effect listed. It never did anything for the pain I was in.
I think I had the same symptoms as u this week. I took two pills and later was extremely nauseas. Throwing up shaking felt extremely exhausted. Also had trouble peeing
My side effect is that I like it too much. I suffer from bad anxiety and tramadol just leaves me nice and relaxed. Only thing is that my tolerance has gone through the roof, so I'm tapering off them. I have given them up before a couple of times cold turkey, I couldn't sleep for more than an hour for about 2 weeks but the first 3 or 4 days were the worst, just this awful feeling of wanting to jump out of my skin and praying for some proper sleep to escape it.
Yep, feeling of wanting to claw your own skin off. I found it too unbearable. If I had to come off Tramadol, I know I would end up on heroin just to avoid withdrawl. That terrifies me but I just know I can't suffer that withdrawl.

This medication is the only thing that works for my constant back and knee pain and allows me to sleep. It also allows me to work and pay bills. sounds like a win win. I am sick of many demonizing this drug when it really is a life saver.
I was prescribed it for 10 years for my joint pain. Around 2013 no doctor would prescribe it any more. Now days I don't do much because my hips, knees, and back pain keep me from moving around. It allowed me to work with a clear head and did not hurt my stomach.
I took tramadol for over 15 years for joint pain, was very active social person then. Now I’m in constant pain and any physical activity causes severe pain. Haven’t been able to find a doctor to prescribe tramadol for two years now since the “war on opiates” that Trump initiated. I voted for trump and generally agreed with most of what he did, but he sure left a lot of people with real pain unable to get medication. My quality of life is definitely not as good as it was when I was able to be active and pain free with tramadol.
My wife has been taking this for years for her MS, and if it weren’t for Tramadol, she would have a hard time walking straight. I can tell if she forgets to take it, it’s a huge change.
I've been taking tramadol for about ten years for my pain as a result of spinal stenosis. At first the prescription was one every six hours as needed. After a year my pain was still very bad so the script was increased to two every six hours as needed. This has worked for me. I usually take two with my morning coffee and later two in late afternoon or early evening. I've never taken more than two at a time. If I did some physical work during the day I might take two at bedtime. As for side effects, l tire easily and have loss of appetite. The two times that I ran out, I had strong withdrawal symptoms. I imagine like the DTs. The medicine takes effect in about thirty minutes for me. I am in my middle seventies.
I need both knee joints replaced. Bone- on- bone arthritis in the knees, fibromyalgia and CFS, multiple back and neck injuries and degeneration including spinal stenosis, bulging lumbar and cervical disks, sciatica, and advanced Lyme arthritis. I could not walk without screaming involuntarily. I have been taking tramadol about 2 years. When l take it " as needed", l take 50-100 mgs. Usually, nor more than once a day, if that. I started PT and was so physically traumatized, l took 100 mgs. 3x daily for two weeks. That was about 8 months ago. I now take 50 as needed. The only complaint l've had is that my knee pain sometimes gets worse after the tramadol. I am allergist to all opiods except tramadol, and all over-the- counter pain meds. I do take flexeril also, almost daily. If anything, l'm substantially better than when l started the meds. I do use several "naturopathic" substances: glucosamine w hyaluronic a cid, turmeric w peperine, vit.D and fish oil.
I took one pill ( prescribed tramadol) for spinal nerve damage, and went on a ‘journey.’ I will never take it again. I saw the grim reaper and probably demons. I had major ( five hours cut front and back) surgery for the Injury. I took only over the counter medication for the extreme agonizing pain. I slept, walked like Tim Conway’s little old man skit, ate, slept, walked, and in a month was walking decent, again. For any muscle spasms I encounter, I take diazepam and Tylenol or aspirin and go to bed to stop the spasm. A muscle relaxer, and over the counter only as needed is maybe something you could try. I could never imagine living on that medication. I knew after one dose, I was hallucinating and rode it out, until I fell asleep.

I've got the same as you..I was on lyrica,endone..wich also has heroin in it..as soon as I found out it had heroin in it..I got off all tablets and I take 100% thc oil and flower..
I refused codeine and tried tramadol instead, worked well on knee pain, but messed my head up, not in a fun way. I can’t tolerate pain medication well, I’m happy it works for a lot of people. 👍🏼
The word synthetic made me avoid tramadol. I am very happy with codeine for chronic severe pain . Tramadol got very popular with emergency depts. in the UK when it came out
Weird.. In the UK it’s not uncommon for people to be prescribed tramadol over a long period of time... I myself have been taking tramadol consistently for the past 7 years and many others have been too!
I just took an injection at the doctor this morning for inflamed sinuses and I feel wonderful. I’m on my cycle this month and no cramps either. It’s great
trishalynn56 I was wondering about asking my GP about an injection of Tramadol. Have tried to obtain an epidural for pain relief but it is very costly as the NHS has no time for this at this time of COVID hospitalisation etc., and if I could afford it I would go for it. To be free of pain for a couple of days or weeks would be heaven.
I don't want to argue with anyone, but when I have a migraine and I've already taken my med for it, I usually get a shot of Toradol afterwards if the peripheral pain it's caused hasn't abated. Two of those is inflamed sinuses and neck pain. It's almost impossible to exaggerate the relief I feel. Not even tramadol can touch the pain, and I've tried 2 capsules, 100mg, when I couldn't get access to a GP.
I’ve been on tramadol for over 7 yrs. Started taking it for a chronic back condition. Found out it actually helped with my sleeping (Hypersomnia) disorder too. It actually gives me enough energy to actually function. I was originally prescribed 100 mg 3 x a day, but I lowered it to 2x a day, and I haven’t had ANY of the side effects you speak of. I’ve never upped my dose, only lowered it. It doesn’t take my pain away, just makes it tolerable. I’ve had dentist try to prescribe it for a toothache, and I had to tell them that I already take 200mg a day, and it didn’t touch my toothache…🤦🏽♀️ I spoke with my dr about becoming addicted, when all these stories came out about it, and he said those who become addicted, are the ones who abuse it, and don’t take as directed. I did quit drinking ( I’ll drink once every 3 months or so now, with friends) because I take this, and adderall, and figured it wouldn’t be a good idea to mix them, plus didn’t want to damage my liver.
My story is similar; I've been on tramadol for 8 years, 100 mg slow release for pain (initially after 2 failed neck surgeries) and no side effects. Where I live, doctors are very reluctant about prescribing it, but thankfully my GP knows me real well and trusts me with it (we also always talk about things, are honest about expectations, realistic goals, I don't drink/smoke, am on a whole food plant based diet, exerice everyday etc). The moment I tell a doctor I'm on tramadol, they are in shock. I tell them I've been on the same dose for 8 years, another shock. Good doctors will then tell me I am clearly not the type of patient they'd worry about abusing it. All this said, my body has sadly gotten 'addicted' to it so it is now yearning for more (waking me up at 5 am and giving me restlessness/chills/sneezes). This is the reason why I have to stop for a while and maybe start again (or use other meds). But otherwise, having tried so many other meds, many with horrible side effects, tramadol has been a total lifesaver for me for the past 8 years.
Been on tramadol for less than 6 months it's been ok . But now seems I could have side effects. Like weakness and my nervous system feels funky. Funny head and some dizziness. Im wondering and thinking of stopping it
so i have taken this medication for about 8 years now in various doses and the only real side effect i had was constipation. now i stopped taking it cold turkey wise, and the withdrawal symptoms wasnt as severe as i hoped. just abit of restlesness combined with yawning. its now been about two weeks since i stopped taking it and the withdrawal is almost gone.
Lucky you. I once tried to stop cold turkey and the yawning is what sets in first but then I get crawling skin, an urge to keep arching my back, like twitching, brain zaps, flu symptoms, insomnia. It's absolutely awful. Not to mention the depression. It's the worst thing I've ever experienced
@@gearoftones8585 yeah it think it comes down to the amount you taken daily or weekly. if it was in large quantities then the withdrawal would likely be worse.
You’ve not mentioned the sweating any activity makes me sweat excessively the funny thing is I very rarely sweated before I took tramadol but even just walks has the sweat running down my face although I don’t feel warm
I take it when my rheumatoid arthritis gets bad.usually at night. Main problem I fall asleep hard but am wide awake a couple hours later. I try to avoid it during the week when I have to work the next day.
I was given Tram for leg pain after a heart attack. First few months it worked fantastically. Then I kept going into a semi comatose state with extreme sweating where clothes and bed sheets would be saturated. I was hospitalised several times. I changed GP and he recommended I came off it. People said I looked like a corpse.
I take about 20 different medications, so cannot prove this, but I would like you to know that when I took Tramadol and woke up, I experienced some hallucinations. It only happened within 8 hours of taking Tramadol, but sure scared the heck out of yours truly!
Me too, I do not like the side effects of tramadol it is hell. I don't know why people underestimate this pain pill it is not a weak opioid plus it causes a nodding off euphoria when you take 3 of them. I have a love hate for tramadol.

I have been on tramadol since 2007. 50 mg 3 times a day. I have tried to cut back to two pills three different times. Yes the withdrawal is not easy but for me it only lasted 7 or 8 days. Maybe you could withdraw slowly rather than all at once.

I'm shocked to see how many people say they have been on this for years, because the Dr's where I live won't prescribe tramadol long term. No matter your condition or pain level. I've never once had constipation as a side effect. Works better for me when taken with acetaminophen, but never does a good job at taking the pain completely away. However it does calm my nerves and anxiety a bit.
Took this for severe osteo Arthritis & Fibro pain it was terrible then was prescribed Amitriptyline this too was horrific, saw things that were not there, after 17 years still struggling with a good pain medication and now I have a rheumatoid diagnosis...

I was on this for over 2 years- not only did it not do a thing for my pain (DDD, Cervical), but it gave me brutal migraines (I never have headaches, let alone anything like a migraine, ever), and then started getting seizures.
@@virginiabaca7835 Hi Virginia I was having terrible migrains 3yrs ago 3-4 per week , whilst visiting a Ear Nose and Throat surgeon, (getting grommets for my daughter). He told me to get an MRI of my head and get the results to him, he found a sinus cavity in the middle of my head was full of fluid instead of air. This fluid built up pressure and pushes on the optical nerve, left unchecked it can cause blindness. I also had a deviated septum, the surgery was through the nose and the recovery was not pleasant but no more migrains. I still feel indebted to this surgeon, without my wee girl getting ear infections I may still be getting these bloody things. I got some relief from a medication called Rizamelt, its fantastic for any headaches. I hope you find relief soon, it's no way to live. good luck
@@virginiabaca7835 I know I have been told to be very careful to watch for rebound migraines. I am a chronic migraine sufferer and have been since my twenties. I have gone down the preventative route and need minimal strength painkillers now. Rebound migraines are from overusing painkillers - any type. Maybe look it up? You might be able to relate to what it says. This was a neurologist who advised me.
I was taking tramadol in 2006 after breaking my femur bone. They did mess with your guts if you hadn’t eat much before taking them.the only side effects I had were constipation and a lot sleepiness . I was already weak after my operation due to a lot of blood loss. But it was definitely the tramadol that was making me feel more tired.
My doctors took me off tramadol after taking 8/day for years. This is the new thing now. I had to increase my gabapentin for pain plus I’ve been experiencing varied anti depressants that make me lethargic. Ugh! What an experience! I’ve never had more pain. I’m 71 now, so I don’t plan on living the rest of my life like this. FYI: every BODY is different, in my case I was never constipated with tramadol.
I've been on tramadol with naproxen for a year now for arthritis in knees only side affect is constipation it helps with pain and I have a normal life at work and in van
My mother (76 years old) has been on tramadol for almost 20 years for arthritis in her back. Her dosage has never gone up nor has she needed it to. I wish MDs would pay attention to the ABUNDANT -- though not organized, journaled or peer reviewed -- evidence that Tramadol, in many people (probably not all) is something they can stay on long term without developing tolerance. Listen to what your patients are saying. Listen to what your peers patients are saying. When my mother's doctor was making plans to retire and she was TERRIFIED that a new doctor would cut her off, she started making plans to end her life if she couldn't find a new MD to listen to her. When she found a new MD, he did not stop prescribing and so she breathed a deep sigh of relief. It was a total toss up however. She could easily have gotten an MD who said, "this is too much Tramadol, I'm cutting back or eliminating it." Not an uncommon story.

When I’m not well rested, it does not work well. Very upsetting. Herniated discs pain and my ankylosis spondylitis. Also, chronic fatigue. Helps sometimes. Something is better than nothing. Mornings, oh gosh, I can’t handle the pain. I use ice packs and sometimes I sleep with ice packs wrapped in a cloth. Inflammation is incredible! I still have kids so I push myself because I have to. Tramadol has helped me since anything stronger has made me sleepy during the day.
This is like me! I have much more pain in the morning of undiagnosed hip groin pain! Cindy, you are the first person that I’ve heard of having worse pain in the AM! Has any doctors told you why yet?
I've been taking Tramadol for about 10 years now for cervical and thoracic fractures of my spine caused by a car accident 40 years ago. I've also used most of the other opioids at on time or another. I know it's considered a mid-level pain reliever but it only works well for me if I take it before the onset of pain. I generally use it 2 to 3 50mg daily, they can cause dizziness, shortness of breath during exercise and jitters but in my experience no constipation or sleepiness. But I do suspect it in a reduction sensitive during sexual intercourse. I haven't found it to be habit forming but I haven had those issues with any other pain reliever so I may not be the best judge for others. Every 3 - 4 year I have RFA (radio frequency ablation) on the parietal nerves associated with my injuries to decrease pain and thus reduce my use of Tramadol so my use of Tramadol drops to 1 or 2 50mg daily.
My Tramadol prescription is for Tramacet. Acetaminophen is included with the Tramadol. I was hoping you would mention how that effects the patient. While I do experience the side-effects mentioned, there is very little that alters my lifestyle other than the tiredness. I have had various doctors while on Tramadol due to the shortage of doctors here in Ontario, Canada. The most recent one is covering for a doctor I had for a short time while he is away. His replacement will not start work until next month. Meanwhile this one who is covering is concerned about my prescription. She has changed it to two tablets twice a day. This will not work for me and since I take it in tablet form, I’m convinced it is not time-release medication. I am wondering if I can continue to take it as I used to, one in the morning unless I wake up in severe pain, one for break-through pain and one or two at bedtime depending on my pain level. Having ascertained from other medical personnel that it is not time-release, I can’t see any advantage to taking two every morning and then having to wait until bedtime for more relief.
My 86 year old aunt was prescribed Tramadol for back and leg pain and she has been taking zoloft and Ativan for years. The past couple of weeks she's been hallucinating seeing snakes in her bedroom and hearing voices. She called her daughter and told her that she had been talking to her daddy and her daughter went to her mom's house and had to take her to the ER because her daddy passed away in 2013 and it freaked her out because she couldn't make her mom understand he had passed away. The past 2 nights she's gotten up around 3AM with her flashlight looking for snakes. I read that tramadol and Ativan taken together can cause nightmares and hallucinations. All she wants to do lately is sleep and complains of just not feeling good. I'm a nurse and researched the meds she takes and came across your video. I don't understand why these doctors prescribed the narcotic knowing she was taking 2 antidepressants then diagnosis her with progressive dementia. Any suggestions or words of advice would be appreciated. You break it down in a way everyone can relate and understand so I applaud you for caring. My mother also experienced vivid hallucinations , it didn't mention that on the pamphlet and all her doctor said was that it was an opioid and that too much would make her constipated . She saw snakes as well ...New Zealand doesn't have snakes .
Does tramadol helps alleviate severe pain due to herniated disks and neuropathy diagnosis ( suffering from neuropathy but not diabetic). Please advise. My doctor prescribed me tramadol for migraines. Had no effect that been said so many medications did not help my migraines. Now after 28 years have found a reasonable combination that helps without too many side effects.
I've been suffering from migranes for years (MVA Head injury), and tried Tramadol years ago and I don't remember it as being helpfull or side effects. The post op infection in my skull/neck is finally starting to getting better. I am wanting to wean off of the 3 norco's a day I should give it another try
@@dottilindsey5605 They prescribe anti-convulsives for migraines a lot of times, I've tried them all with little success, but Gabapentine actually works pretty good once you get used to the side effects... it's addictive too, any attempts to stop taking it don't go well
I have not just migraines, but Petit mal seizures (my type are absence seizures, I call them freeze frames because my whole body just stops moving) due to a lesion on my left side from a head trauma suffered as a kid. My neurologist that finally diagnosed it all put me on Topamax, 400mg (max dose) and both migraines and seizures are under control. I will get some breakthrough ones if I'm too tired or under too much stress, but I have had enough therapy to know how to quickly get things under control. Tramadol has no role to play in any of this.
Tramadol gave me terror, anxiety and hallucinations. Received immediately after major surgery, and tramadol was worst experience of my entire life. I became utterly terrified, things started happening that had me screaming for help. Physicians told me they were known side effects and warmed me to always have notification "allergic to tramadol" on me. Few hours and all of it wore off, but those were terror and horror filled hours immediately after major surgery were 8 hours of terrifying hell I wouldn't wish on anyone.
Entirely agree. I am allergic to Tramadol, in fact any opioids and have to wear a notification bracelet when undergoing surgery. Nevertheless when I was last operated on nearly three years ago, the anaesthetist disregarded the notification and whilst still unconscious administered morphine. As you can imagine a short while after waking I became very ill and the medical staff couldn’t understand why, until the surgeon admitted that anaesthetists like to give a shot of morphine during surgery as they believe it helps the patients obtain some pain relief when they come round. Maybe for some, but not for me. The reaction is so severe that I literally feel I’m going to die.
I have been taking Tramadol off and on for about a year. I take it because of a motorcycle accident I had in 2015 which broke all of my ribs on my right side, dislocated my right hip and numerours other injuries. My Doctor prescribed Prednisone and Tramadol. It was like a miracle. I felt almost normal again, no pain and at 68 years old that meant I still had a life to live. I wasnt stuck at home anymore because I couldn''t move because of the pain. I would also like to mention the I have COPD and have to also take breathing medications to keep my lungs open. I am not sure which one of the medications effected my breathing but it seemed the Tramadol caused my lungs to close up even more and the breathing meds I was taking weren't doing their job anymore. I began to have breathing problems and couldn't breath normally. I decided to stop the Tramadol and some of my breathing came back, but so did the pain. I still take the Prednisone but it's not enough, can you recommend an alternative to Tramadol that won't have the same side effects?
Thanks for posting this. This is very informative. I’ve been taking tramadol for my chronic back pain. I was concerned about some side effects I was experiencing but the label didn’t mention these. Basically about 30-60 minutes after I take the medicine my pain is decreased and I have an abundance of energy. I go from not being able to move around to not being able to stop. It feels great like I’m a normal person again. Unfortunately I was worried I was experiencing some sort of “high”. I haven’t been taking it long and I don’t feel like I am experiencing any addiction related problems. It sounds like the increase in energy is from the increase of serotonin. I’ll discuss it with my doctor but I was curious... should I be concerned with this feeling of increased energy? Thanks again!!
If you have no history of drug abuse, you shouldn't worry too much with feeling guilty for the mental stimulation it gives you, the fact you here worried about feeling high says pretty much that you are less likely to consume it only for the brain relief, but also anyone can become addicted to certain things once they depend on them for a long period of time so keep being safe and using it as prescribed but do not feel guilty for what stimulation it does provide if that was the case everyone should be paranoid about caffeine boosts in the morning from a cup of coffee
I have a chronic sleep disorder called Hypersomnia, which causes debilitating EXHAUSTION. A normal person would have to stay up for three days with no sleep, to understand how I feel DAILY. There is no FDA approved drug for it, they treat it like you have narcolepsy, (Adderall, or Ritalin) Which doesn’t help. I started taking tramadol over seven years ago for degenerative disc disease and one of the side effects is that it gives me energy, so I can actually function. it has literally made my life bearable. I get exhausted just from taking a shower, and experience what’s called sleep drunkenness if I don’t take my tramadol.
Due to shortage of narcotic mds now I was unable too get my usual hydrocodone prescription. My pain clinic called my pharmacy and asked when the hydrocodone would be available and was told it was on back order and would be a while . My clinic asked what was available and the only thing available was tramadol . They told me what was up and basically tramadol was my only choice so I took it. Unfortunately it’s no where near as effective as my usual hydrocodone prescription and my pain level is unfortunately up. Iam hoping next month problem will be corrected
This medication made me have shallow breathing at night (I didn't even take it at night but I had taken two separate doses earlier in the day). Like I would wake up and have to consciously fill up my lungs with air because it felt like I wasn't getting enough. I'm guessing that's bad and I should stop taking it? Is there pain medication that doesn't do that that isn't ibprofen or Tylenol? Because I've had a similar reaction with other opiates when I had oral surgery years ago, but when they asked if I had any allergies I said no because I was afraid I'd be in pain without any effective treatment. Thoughts?
I have shortness of breath as I type this and a massive headache, tramadol was given to me for pain (gastric related) by a doc and I absolutely hate it.. waiting for it to wear off. Also triggered anxiety, I also have anxiety as it is but made it worse 🤷🏽♀️
@Damien Bradley thanks for the info, omg 3 years! I was diagnosed with pancreatitis then a week later diagnosed with H.Pylori. I did the antibiotic treatment and still have symptoms 2 weeks after treatment. I was in pain so the er doc gave me tramadol.. omgosh it gave me a huge headache, shortness of breath off and on, even my body temp went up, but it did help with the stomach pain haha. I was on omeprazole but my primary doc put me off it to do more testing.. so I'm in the middle of everything smh. Thanks tho

Okay so I've taken Tramadol since it pretty much came out. It was not classified as a narcotic medicine at that time. At the time the likelihood of getting addicted to it was minimal. I still take it as needed but I rarely take it. Only side affects I get from it is sleeplessness, and it is almost impossible for me to ejaculate, I mean I can literally go for hrs and not "get off". It does a good job of blocking the pain
I’m in the uk and was given this for nearly 15 years. The specialist stopped it and told me it could make my pain worse. After coming off it my pain was a lot less. Was also on Pregabalin too which took me a long time to stop, worse than Tramadol. I had severe withdrawal from that one.
Missed out that in 2012 a study found that long term opioid use in men causes low testosterone levels leading to Osteoporosis. It's pretty common but isn't widely discussed with patients. I know first hand the damage it did to my joints and led to a pair of stress fractured hips at age 39 and further damage to the left femoral head (which had a previous injury from my early 20's in the forces) all from Tramadol I now have a prosthetic left hip joint since I was 40 I'm now 47 and receive 12 weekly injections of testosterone to counteract this plus a daily vitamin D3 supplement to repair my bones. It took 5 years to repair the lost mineral density in my bones.
I get it for a couple off years now and never had side effect, yes only you're chiller and you can't drive with this, but get it for kidney stone pain because I've cystinuria and for me in real pain I have to take it every four hours. Then when it goes better 2 times a days and 3 /4 days 1 and stop.
I’ve taken tramadol for over 20 years for pain. 200 mg 4 times a day for years then in the last 6 years 50 mg a day. It helped at first but after a few years I had break through pain. I was so afraid to stop taking it but I knew it was doing me more harm than good. I never abused the drug but was continually trying to take less and less. I have just recently stopped taking it. It has definitely made me feel horrible. The withdrawal is real. Cbd is my new way to control the pain without all the side effects from tramadol. So thankful to be done with narcotics like that.
I've been taking it under doctors prescription for 3 years , I'm taking 6 ×50mgs a day and I'm constantly trying to take less but it's very hard , I sometimes take more as I have 3 prolapse discs, nerve pain in both legs and knee arthritis it's a constant battle because after a short time they stop working and I have to take less then take my normal dose to get any benefits, I wish I'd never taken tramadol , and if someone is thinking about taking it my advice would be dont , it's very hard to stop
yeah I'm 15 and I've had it for a year with a broken back, osteoporosis, knee arthritis and skeletal dysplasia and its been great for me but if I were you I've been reducing the amount I take it to less and less making prescriptions last longer
I still remember when tramadol wasn't considered an Opioid or a controlled substance. It had "opioid-like" effects. I laughed at my doctor when he tried to switch me from morphine to tramadol. Most people who wanted pain medicine wanted nothing to do with it. Maybe I should have given it more of a chance back in the day? I see lots of people getting really great pain relief with it in the comments. Lots of people swear by it now. And apparently it's stronger than what doctors initially thought?
I take one per day and it works great! If I take more I get headaches! So no other pain meds works like this! So I’m happy with tramadol for chronic fatigue EBV.. muscle tightness pain! It enabled me to work !!
After being perscribed tramadol to replace oxycodone perscribed after my revision L5-S1 fusion surgery, my tolerance to it grew quickly, and it felt like it wasn't doing anything for me at all. Not sure how long that took, but I reluctanly didn't want to take it anymore, having heard how good it was. Well, now that I've heard it can slow breathing, I feel it is just as well, because since a move about two years ago, I have been diagnosed with asthma. I am highly reliant on Spiriva, Advair and albuteral on a daily basis. Because I have a non-operable, and non- improving left hip socket labrel tear and a spur between my c-4&5 that gives me arm weakness, neck tension and head and neck aches, I was given the choice of keeping Meloxicam or Tizanadine, and chose Meloxicam because it is an anti-inflamitory and not just a muscle relaxant. Did I make a wise decision?
Only you can decide if you made a wise decision, what is your pain like? Is it controled? Can you function without heavy pain meds? I am 61 & I say quite frankly I don't care if I become addicted to something, this pain is never going to go away. I watched a YT documentary a couple of nights ago on how the epidemic with opiates began in Oklahoma, the drug company started off with something like $57,000 profit to around $36 blllion in 2014. So many people hooked on it have OD'd. In fact the 6 people who said things like "oh now I take Oxycontin I can now go back to work & feel normal again" 3 oit of the 6 OD'd & died. I don't really know what would be a good pain reliever without addiction. I take Tapentadol & I am not addicted to that but it isn't helping my pain either. I don't know if you have tummy troubles but I had a gastroscopy on Monday & the Consultant told me there was inflammation in my esophagus & stomach & to stay clear of anti-inflammatories. Everyone is different. You can always change meds as the pain increases.
I had a non stop headache, had it for three years, awoke one morning with pain so horrendous I drove myself to ER in thick fog. After being at ER for around four hours I was finally diagnosed with TN, and after reading notes I was given regarding TN, was told it’s one of the worst pains known to humans. I was given a prescription which didn’t help so I quit taking it. During this time I was taking Tramadol. One evening I was reading a thread on FB about migraines, I mentioned that I didn’t have migraines but rather TN, and I took Tramadol for it, some woman say omg, what doctor would give you Tramadol it’s known to cause headaches. I was miffed at her for saying that because I really like my doctor. Not long after reading that thread, I ran out of Tramadol. My head didn’t hurt. Picked up the prescription the next day, headache was back. Next day I didn’t take it, no headache. I’ve not taken it since. I stopped cold turkey and had no withdrawals what so ever. I’m really sorry that so many suffer terribly trying to get off of that drug, guess I was one of the lucky ones without with withdrawals.
Are you saying you have TN as in Trigeminal Neuralgia? Because if so having a headache is uncommon as it effects the facial nerves, I would have thought you be put on a nerve blocker like Lyrica because TN pain is usually brief but severe. Did they give you an MRI? Nerve pain is terrible, I have had loads of nerve related pain thanks to my brain being cut into twice, even after my first surgery 24 years ago, pain in my legs was horrendous. You could be experiencing phantom pain, some drs like to throw words around like "one of the worst pains known to humans." It is about pain tolerance & threshold. There isn't a pain scale to go by or judge how much pain a person is in. Each individual person has their own pain scale out of 10, I know I can tolerate a lot of pain where another person might be screaming. Anyway 3 years is a long time to put up with headaches, I hope they gave you an MRI with NO contrast injection Gadolinium. Now Gadolinium is a whole different toxic story by itself. If a person had pain & the dr couldn't find the cause, a couple of MRIs with contrast later, that pain will feel like an itch. PS: Are you in the UK by any chance?
I am really pleased you discovered what was causing your pain. I get TN. I also get migraines. The neurologist's have been talking about medication overuse syndrome which is where overusing painkillers, causes migraines. So I am very careful to not use them if I don't have to. I seem to have found a happy balance. I don't ever use opiate based medication. I use a preventative for migraines. I do exercises for TN which seems to help, and just over the counter pain killers if I need to. Seems to be working. P.S I would rate migraines as the worst pain I ever experienced, then childbirth as a close second. I would much rather give birth than go through the pain of migraines, like I use to.
I realized absolutely no pain relief with tramadol, ever. However, I've been told by EMT & Nurse friends that they've found tramadol most effective when used for abdominal trauma/post-surgical pain.
I’ve been taking 100 mg 2 x a day for over seven years, and anytime I have bad pain like a toothache or a migraine or my back goes completely out. I have to have real drugs like hydrocodone etc. For me, Tramadol just takes the edge off, so I can actually function..😉
took paracetamol tramadol twice in less than 4 hr interval. got really sleepy and head is spinning, 2-3 hr later woke up stomach get sour, and vomit sour liquid out of my mouth. not sure if its my stomach acids.
I'm taking tramadol,I live in the UK and I've been suffering from pulsing heart rate all over my body,it's so annoying,and also s small sensation of depersonslisation,do you think this is down to the tramadol or could it be my thyroid.as I'm feeling so tired all the time,and I've noticed that my wounds are not healing very fast as well.i would appreciate your comments,if anyone's reading this.much love !!
f16 ryan Halford I'm in the Uk and have been on it since December and due to stop soon as the withdrawals are becoming bad like doing speed and I would highly recommend that you can stop taking it as it's dangerous in the long term and codeine phosphate 30 mg is a much safer alternative
I have been taking Tramadol for 2+ years. It is not addictive. I can stop taking it and not take another one for several weeks. It’s the only thing that gives me relief from the pain caused by my Sjogren’s Syndrome.
I Agree with Pam, I have no side effects other than constipation. I couldn't work or live a normal life without it and it does not make you feel funny at all that's what I like about it most.Plus it's a mood booster or maybe I'm happy cause I'm not hurting😀
1:25 it most certainly was in Massachusetts until about 2018. I took it for trigeminal neurglia for years. It helped me about every third time I took one. I was lucky. I have a terrific medical team.
I took it for a good amount of time for my bulging disc and I took 2 pills twice a day. Never had any side effects, no nausea, no constipation, no dizziness or shortness of breath. The only thing I felt was the pain was gone and I felt like jumping out of bed in the morning to tackle the day. I was in a great mood. Now I'm off it and can't sleep regularly and the pain is back. Doesn't help that we are in quarantine. Is it possible to never have side effects or withdrawals?
I have been taking tramadol for almost 20 years for a number of chronic pain issues. I have absolutely no side effects only relief of pain! Also got off cold turkey once without withdrawal symptoms. And my doctor told me that it is not a narcotic, but the FDA labels it as such due to the drug,s ability to intensify narcotics and other drugs. Thus a junkie can get higher combining tramadol with other substances.
You can have side effects and withdrawals from any medication. Think coffee, cola soft drinks or cocoa. Way too many people are living with chronic pain due to the government trying to fight the drug crisis!
Yes it is possible. I’ve taking it for over 7 yrs, 100 mg 2x a day, and have many times had to stop for various reasons, and I’ve never had withdrawals. I also don’t have ANY of the side effects this guy spoke of…😜

My wife died while on this medication after we separated, she did drink & I had known her not only to forget whether she had taken it & pop them again but to also stop breathing for periods at which time I woke her. The reason for death given was from some undiagnosed rare ventricular disorder which may be true or could just be a cover. Doctor never discussed the risks that I am aware of. I would be interested to know what is considered a high dose.
It's not an opioid. It was reclassified as one, but it isn't really one. It was only registered as one in the 2010's to help regulate pain medicine a bit more stricter.
Its a synthetic "opioid" due to its chemical formula and chemical bond structure. As it is attracted to the opioid receptors of the brain this is why its classified as an opioid.
@@MrSCOTTtheSCOT why did they wait to classify it as a synthetic opioid until the 2014 then? The drug has been around a long time but it hadn't been classified as one until way later.
Here in Denmark, there are very strict control with the doctors and their use of Tramadol. Too many patients got addicted. I got it for 10 years because of fibromyalgia. I had no side effects. If you get Tramadol, you have to see your doctor once a year for a conversation about your use of it. My doctor said, the longer you take it, the more you need.
Denmark is a sane country. The US has become a nation of drug addicts. The illusion of freedom in the US is making people erroneously believe they can do anything they want, and not be cautioned.

Thank you for video! I went to ER today and had severe allergic reaction. Warm feeling throughout body, swollen tongue and difficult sleeping. Not sure what to do.
I did notice when I took Tramadol 50. My mind has felt more positive as the same of a antidepressant but severe sweating I did not have constipation after the first month of taking Tramadol 50 after three months of taking Tramadol 50 I wanted to get off and it was awful for about a day and a half I felt upset stomach I felt like I wanted to sleep about all day and the next day also but after it got out of my system I felt so much better and I drink plenty of water to flush all the chemicals out which for me made the withdrawal symptoms a lot sooner to go away by drinking water plenty of water
It works with serotonin and stops reuptake ! Just works a different way to regular pain killers that do nothing for me but make me zombified and tired! I wish the pharmacies would not change the manufacturer when refilling, I’ve noticed a difference! They sometimes uses a different ingredient.. FYI
I'm so addicted to tramadol that I can't feel good or normal in my system without taking it a day, without tramadol in my system I feel sick tired, my head aches my temper is high I can't sleep or be normal and it's really affecting me cuz without tramadol I can't even communicate with people normally I become aggressive I can't even work without tramadol in my system, I don't like it please I want to be normal again, I don't want it anymore please help me
I am taking tramadol mix nsaid (skudexa) for my endomitrosis. Trying to keep my dosage a low as possible, i am worry it will cause stress to my liver, is that true ?
Interesting. I have been taking Tramadol for over 13 years after major abdominal surgery. Now take it for spinal pain. Have never taken more than 200mg per day and I restrict to 2 x 50mg in the morning and 1 at night even though I experience mind numbing pain and would like to take more. I am aware of the problem with constipation so eat my five fruit/veg every day. In my early 80s and live in the UK. I was worried about dizzy spells but this could be to do with my BP/heart. Certainly will NOT stop this medication as nothing else works for me. It’s about my quality of life.
There's no need for you to be in pain. If you are still in pain on those low doses, you need to speak to your doc. Perhaps even mix meds. I also have a tens machine for when I need extra. I find I manage best on dihydrocodeine during the day, then 200mg slow release Tramadol at night. It's the only way I can live any kind of near normal, pain free life and still be able to function. I've been on Tramadol for about 20 years.
Oxycodone gave me mega hives, hydrocodone likewise, so I was given Tramadol-itching again so I 2 or 3 a day instead of the 4 prescribed and stretched out the days. Now, I might have to have a knee replacement and I am told it is really painful afterward. Is my only relief going to be Tylenol? Why do I itch or get hives with all these medicines?

I take Tramodol for severe RLS three times a day. It is the only thing that has worked for me. The only side effect I've had from it is the constipation.
I also take Tramadol for RLS! I've been taking 100 mg- 3 times a day with 200 mg Gabapentin for spinal stenosis. The Tramadol has been the best thing I've ever had to really wipe out my RLS (restless legs syndrome). Before bed I take 0.5 mg Pramipexole for RLS while I sleep. I won't take the Pramipexole during the day instead of Tramadol because it really depresses me. It's fantastic for sleeping but not for daytime/awake. I've been on this regime for years... probably 10 or more, and have absolutely no side affects that bother me. Haven't felt the need to increase any of them. I can tell when the Tramadol is wearing off, as I start getting RLS. I say all this so that maybe someone might benefit from these medication schedules as I do. And no constipation what-so-ever.
I've been taking Tramadol (37.5+325 mg) for 15 years as a painkiller for peripheral neuropathy. Prescription says up to 4/ day. I usually take 1 and sometimes 2 per day. I haven't noticed any visible side effects.
Is that Tramadol or tramacet? Tramacet has a small dose of Tramadol (in this case, 37.5 mg) and a large dose of acetaminophen (325 mg). I take the same dose of tramacet each morning as it helps with my pain fairly quickly and helps me to get my kids off to school relatively pain free. Once they’re out of the house and I come home for my morning coffee I take 200 mg of Tramadol and I’m generally good for the rest of the day. Either way, I hope what you’re taking is working for you!

The *main* side effect I've discovered, is the ability to sleep pain free for 8 hours, then waking not in any pain and being able to mainly keep the pain under control all day.

I like many others have been on tramadol for years. I take 2 50mg, one to two times a day. I have fibromyalga, degenerative disk disease, and neuropathy caused by a cancer treatment. I function just fine on tramadol and just posted a 3.538 GPA as a full time college student. I cannot walk without tramadol because the pain gets to be too much. I am not addicted to tramadol. I am addicted to being a normal functioning human Stage 4 Cancer Surviving, Neuropathy beating, Painless college student who is almost done with her Associates in History degree at 46 years old.

I am a CRPS, severe arthritis, severe PCOS and Endometriosis, Lipoedema resilience expert who completed her Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience degree last year (my BA Hons was in History)! It may have taken me a bit longer and with need for some modified assessments that worked more safely with my needs, but I succeeded. My body does not rule me and my future, and tramadol is tool I use carefully at need, under medical supervision, that helps me to continue living a purpose-filled and contributing life when my pain flares.
Logically if your body Is in too much pain to walk do you really think taking a pill to numb your body and walking is actually going to help. Meaning your body is telling you not to walk and if you Block the pain signals in the nerves with drugs and still walk you're going to destroy your body even further. pain is a great indicator of your body's tolerance and telling you what not to do you. don't mask it with drugs. Pain is a literal tool to Preserve humans live as part of natural selection you don't block it out.
Some therapist uses this drug to help with depression. For myself, stronger drugs like vicadin do not work for me and otc could possibly work if I double the dose I’m scared to think what could happen to me. This doctor mentions slowing down nerve signals but helps with my ptsd symptoms
Many have repported that when you take opiates and actually have pain you do not get addicted, it is when they take opiates and have mild or no pain you get addicted it seems...

I have had MS at a very young age and didn't get diagnosed till I was 42yrs old. I've taken Tramadol as needed for MS pain for about 5 yes now. I have severe almost screaming pain at times with no warning. Other medications were not working. My new APRN told me that according to the Neurological Society that I should be taking a antidepressant in combination with my muscle relaxer... that worked for about 3 months and stopped working for me. Now I have to take Tramadol along with a combination of other meds. I wished doctors would quit downplaying what real pain is !!!!

@@juliebryant3968 I know a woman who was diagnosed with MS years ago and was taking tramadol and other drugs for it. Last year they did some more tests. It seems the lesion on her brain had not changed or grown. It wasn't MS. She went through hell reducing the medication until she stopped so they could see what her actual symptoms were and could rule out the symptoms that were a result of the medication alone. A difficult journey. She seems much happier now. It was a huge shock to her to discover, after all of that time that she didn't have MS though.
I take 75 MG, generally in the morning, if I am going to go out running errands, then one 50 MG @ evening/night, I have been doing this for 5 yrs since I was diagnosed with sero-negative rheumatoid , joint, degenerative and osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia. The only " side effect " is I can function doing what I need to do without being in skin crawling, screaming pain. I hope I never have to stop taking it. I am grateful my doctor found something that works for me 👍💊

I'm on 200mg slow release at night. I can't describe how wonderful it is to sleep the whole night pain free instead of tossing and turning, waking up several times in pain and even when I'm asleep, I *dream* of the pain.
I took two tramadol 5 hours ago and recently out of nowhere felt dizzy, nauseous, confused and I got the shakes with an increased heart rate. I found this video really helpful and it put my mind at ease. I’ll be more careful with it next time.

There's nothing wrong with this medication if not abused. I've been taking it for well over 10 years for degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis pain. As well as I don't need the highly powerful anti depressants that mostly left me in a comatose state of mind. And lastly I am so sick of these doctors and groups of people that want to wage war on medications that truly help people live with a better quality of life yet these same people that complain the loudest are not going through debilitating pain and other health issues. So please stop your excessive crying and complaining.
Exactly! It’s the only med that works for me! My muscles ache from my spine .. this take the edge off and allows me to move! Gives me some energy! My dr who is great prescribes this for me! If she retires, I’m 🤷🏻♀️ why because of people that abuse!!

I have been on tramadol for ten years 50mg x 4 times per day. I suffer from psoriatic arthritis and also Lyme disease. High levels of joint and muscle pain. Much relief from this medication. I have read that the heart can be affected but at my age of 69 I’m not too worried. Tramadol has given me my life back.

But I have arthritis as I said plus lyme. Frustratingly it comes and goes but between the tramadol and CBD, I am pretty good and also physically active into my “golden years”. I've been on Tramadol for 6 years for back pain & honestly, it works about as good as ibuprofen. Absolutely rediculous that people in real pain can't get anything stronger. So over it all. Most days I just spend in sever pain praying for it all to end.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. You need to go to a new doctor ASAP. Tramadol is great in certain cases but if it's not helping then patients deserve to be reevaluated and given stronger meds.
5% of Caucasians don't have the enzyme that metabolizes tramadol or other similar morphine analogs. I suspect that's why it doesn't work on me either.
Yeah. Tramadol was pretty much useless to me. I had open heart surgery and my dad told the Dr.s that I was a drug addict. He has no idea. So I smoked pot in high-school. At the time of my surgery, I hadn't even seen an illegal drug in ten years.
That was my experience too. I have fairly severe dextroscoliosis with rotation. I was given 10mg. of tramadol and told that would be for only a short time. I will have this deformed back for a lifetime, and the dosage did nothing. Doctor need to ask which is worse for a patient's health, dependency on opiates but a reasonably active life, or becoming bedridden and non functional. I personally would rather live a useful life.

I've been taking Tramadol for years. I've had absolutely no side effects, at all. I'm also prescribed Gabapentin for pain. This is for arthritis in my spine, hip joints and knees. I get really good pain relief from these meds. I have been taking the prescribed dose for years and it still works. You don't need to take more and more!

Physician prescribed Tramadol for a mild undiagnosed neurological problem. He prescribed one pill every 4 to 6-hours. However, I discovered that 1 or only ½ pill per day worked well. I felt mildly euphoric. I read an article on Tramadol addiction ... I got concerned. I joined “Narcotics Annon” ... I was almost laughed out of the group, because I was concerned about ONE pill per day. I quit the medication anyway.
4-6/day and you will have "some" withdrawal. 1/day? I would laugh too.

Some people are very sensitive to certain or even all medications. And they are gorked out and sedated or even get sick by small or normal doses. And some people can eat pills like they were PEZ. And still no relief. No need to doubt or laugh at someone over this. Everyone experience things differently.

I have tramadol for when my pain on rare occasions is too much. After a couple of days I start looking forward to taking it at night because of the euphoric feel I experiencel. At that point I realize, time to stop taking the tramadol, I am enjoying it too much.
I've been taking tramadol for years for restless legs. Works great for me but, as he said it's very addictive. Have weaned myself off twice because didn't want to get up to a high dose. Very hard to do. Even at a low dose of 50-100 mg a day. I couldn't imagine having to stop at a high dose. Hard to say if the trade off is worth it or not. Don't get hooked on this stuff! It's hell to get off it.

For irritating apply calamine lotion at bedtime and for body heat drink 3 cucumber blend together with its skin. Reduce by 10mg a week. It really works. Dont take any other tablets for withdrawal.
Take 5mg Valium p day for legs. You can skip any time. I took it on and off for years for my legs. It's better now. And I just stopped the Valium as I wished.
I was given this drug by a dentist. I took my first pill and took a nap. I took my second pill according to directions. I was in the emergency room the next day because I couldn't stop throwing up. I experienced every adverse side effect listed. It never did anything for the pain I was in.

My side effect is that I like it too much. I suffer from bad anxiety and tramadol just leaves me nice and relaxed. Only thing is that my tolerance has gone through the roof, so I'm tapering off them. I have given them up before a couple of times cold turkey, I couldn't sleep for more than an hour for about 2 weeks but the first 3 or 4 days were the worst, just this awful feeling of wanting to jump out of my skin and praying for some proper sleep to escape it.
The withdrawal with trams is horrific.... I once ran out and I felt like I was dying for 2 days

Yep, feeling of wanting to claw your own skin off. I found it too unbearable. If I had to come off Tramadol, I know I would end up on heroin just to avoid withdrawl. That terrifies me but I just know I can't suffer that withdrawl.

This medication is the only thing that works for my constant back and knee pain and allows me to sleep. It also allows me to work and pay bills. sounds like a win win. I am sick of many demonizing this drug when it really is a life saver.
I was prescribed it for 10 years for my joint pain. Around 2013 no doctor would prescribe it any more. Now days I don't do much because my hips, knees, and back pain keep me from moving around.
It allowed me to work with a clear head and did not hurt my stomach.
I took tramadol for over 15 years for joint pain, was very active social person then. Now I’m in constant pain and any physical activity causes severe pain. Haven’t been able to find a doctor to prescribe tramadol for two years now since the “war on opiates” that Trump initiated. I voted for trump and generally agreed with most of what he did, but he sure left a lot of people with real pain unable to get medication. My quality of life is definitely not as good as it was when I was able to be active and pain free with tramadol.
My wife has been taking this for years for her MS, and if it weren’t for Tramadol, she would have a hard time walking straight. I can tell if she forgets to take it, it’s a huge change.

I've been taking tramadol for about ten years for my pain as a result of spinal stenosis. At first the prescription was one every six hours as needed. After a year my pain was still very bad so the script was increased to two every six hours as needed. This has worked for me. I usually take two with my morning coffee and later two in late afternoon or early evening. I've never taken more than two at a time. If I did some physical work during the day I might take two at bedtime. As for side effects, l tire easily and have loss of appetite. The two times that I ran out, I had strong withdrawal symptoms. I imagine like the DTs. The medicine takes effect in about thirty minutes for me. I am in my middle seventies.
I need both knee joints replaced. Bone- on- bone arthritis in the knees, fibromyalgia and CFS, multiple back and neck injuries and degeneration including spinal stenosis, bulging lumbar and cervical disks, sciatica, and advanced Lyme arthritis.
I could not walk without screaming involuntarily. I have been taking tramadol about 2 years. When l take it " as needed", l take 50-100 mgs. Usually, nor more than once a day, if that. I started PT and was so physically traumatized, l took 100 mgs. 3x daily for two weeks.
That was about 8 months ago. I now take 50 as needed.
The only complaint l've had is that my knee pain sometimes gets worse after the tramadol.
I am allergist to all opiods except tramadol, and all over-the- counter pain meds. I do take flexeril also, almost daily.
If anything, l'm substantially better than when l started the meds. I do use several "naturopathic" substances: glucosamine w hyaluronic a
cid, turmeric w peperine, vit.D and fish oil.
I took one pill ( prescribed tramadol) for spinal nerve damage, and went on a ‘journey.’ I will never take it again. I saw the grim reaper and probably demons. I had major ( five hours cut front and back) surgery for the
Injury. I took only over the counter medication for the extreme agonizing pain. I slept, walked like Tim Conway’s little old man skit, ate, slept, walked, and in a month was walking decent, again. For any muscle spasms I encounter, I take diazepam and Tylenol or aspirin and go to bed to stop the spasm. A muscle relaxer, and over the counter only as needed is maybe something you could try. I could never imagine living on that medication. I knew after one dose, I was hallucinating and rode it out, until I fell asleep.

I refused codeine and tried tramadol instead, worked well on knee pain, but messed my head up, not in a fun way. I can’t tolerate pain medication well, I’m happy it works for a lot of people. 👍🏼

trishalynn56 I was wondering about asking my GP about an injection of Tramadol. Have tried to obtain an epidural for pain relief but it is very costly as the NHS has no time for this at this time of COVID hospitalisation etc., and if I could afford it I would go for it. To be free of pain for a couple of days or weeks would be heaven.
I don't want to argue with anyone, but when I have a migraine and I've already taken my med for it, I usually get a shot of Toradol afterwards if the peripheral pain it's caused hasn't abated. Two of those is inflamed sinuses and neck pain. It's almost impossible to exaggerate the relief I feel. Not even tramadol can touch the pain, and I've tried 2 capsules, 100mg, when I couldn't get access to a GP.
I’ve been on tramadol for over 7 yrs. Started taking it for a chronic back condition. Found out it actually helped with my sleeping (Hypersomnia) disorder too. It actually gives me enough energy to actually function. I was originally prescribed 100 mg 3 x a day, but I lowered it to 2x a day, and I haven’t had ANY of the side effects you speak of. I’ve never upped my dose, only lowered it. It doesn’t take my pain away, just makes it tolerable. I’ve had dentist try to prescribe it for a toothache, and I had to tell them that I already take 200mg a day, and it didn’t touch my toothache…🤦🏽♀️ I spoke with my dr about becoming addicted, when all these stories came out about it, and he said those who become addicted, are the ones who abuse it, and don’t take as directed. I did quit drinking ( I’ll drink once every 3 months or so now, with friends) because I take this, and adderall, and figured it wouldn’t be a good idea to mix them, plus didn’t want to damage my liver.

My story is similar; I've been on tramadol for 8 years, 100 mg slow release for pain (initially after 2 failed neck surgeries) and no side effects. Where I live, doctors are very reluctant about prescribing it, but thankfully my GP knows me real well and trusts me with it (we also always talk about things, are honest about expectations, realistic goals, I don't drink/smoke, am on a whole food plant based diet, exerice everyday etc). The moment I tell a doctor I'm on tramadol, they are in shock. I tell them I've been on the same dose for 8 years, another shock. Good doctors will then tell me I am clearly not the type of patient they'd worry about abusing it. All this said, my body has sadly gotten 'addicted' to it so it is now yearning for more (waking me up at 5 am and giving me restlessness/chills/sneezes). This is the reason why I have to stop for a while and maybe start again (or use other meds). But otherwise, having tried so many other meds, many with horrible side effects, tramadol has been a total lifesaver for me for the past 8 years.

Been on tramadol for less than 6 months it's been ok . But now seems I could have side effects. Like weakness and my nervous system feels funky. Funny head and some dizziness. Im wondering and thinking of stopping it
so i have taken this medication for about 8 years now in various doses and the only real side effect i had was constipation. now i stopped taking it cold turkey wise, and the withdrawal symptoms wasnt as severe as i hoped. just abit of restlesness combined with yawning. its now been about two weeks since i stopped taking it and the withdrawal is almost gone.

Lucky you. I once tried to stop cold turkey and the yawning is what sets in first but then I get crawling skin, an urge to keep arching my back, like twitching, brain zaps, flu symptoms, insomnia. It's absolutely awful. Not to mention the depression. It's the worst thing I've ever experienced

You’ve not mentioned the sweating any activity makes me sweat excessively the funny thing is I very rarely sweated before I took tramadol but even just walks has the sweat running down my face although I don’t feel warm
I take it when my rheumatoid arthritis gets bad.usually at night. Main problem I fall asleep hard but am wide awake a couple hours later. I try to avoid it during the week when I have to work the next day.

I was given Tram for leg pain after a heart attack. First few months it worked fantastically. Then I kept going into a semi comatose state with extreme sweating where clothes and bed sheets would be saturated. I was hospitalised several times. I changed GP and he recommended I came off it. People said I looked like a corpse.

I take about 20 different medications, so cannot prove this, but I would like you to know that when I took Tramadol and woke up, I experienced some hallucinations. It only happened within 8 hours of taking Tramadol, but sure scared the heck out of yours truly!

I have been on tramadol since 2007. 50 mg 3 times a day. I have tried to cut back to two pills three different times. Yes the withdrawal is not easy but for me it only lasted 7 or 8 days. Maybe you could withdraw slowly rather than all at once.

I am on gabapentin only to help sleep since TKR. My surgeon and family doctor said it is not addictive
I'm shocked to see how many people say they have been on this for years, because the Dr's where I live won't prescribe tramadol long term. No matter your condition or pain level. I've never once had constipation as a side effect. Works better for me when taken with acetaminophen, but never does a good job at taking the pain completely away. However it does calm my nerves and anxiety a bit.
Took this for severe osteo Arthritis & Fibro pain it was terrible then was prescribed Amitriptyline this too was horrific, saw things that were not there, after 17 years still struggling with a good pain medication and now I have a rheumatoid diagnosis...

I never understood how Tramadol affects the body. With serotonin and where it stands on in comparison with oth other meds/pain chart. KNOWLEDGE is extremely important in your health care.
Things to watch for if taking with a ssri,
Tremors .sudden twitching , even while asleep. Symptoms of serotonin syndrome.
Drink ALOT of water .
Anxiety was probably the worst withdrawal symptom I ever had coming off tramadol

@@virginiabaca7835 Hi Virginia I was having terrible migrains 3yrs ago 3-4 per week , whilst visiting a Ear Nose and Throat surgeon, (getting grommets for my daughter). He told me to get an MRI of my head and get the results to him, he found a sinus cavity in the middle of my head was full of fluid instead of air. This fluid built up pressure and pushes on the optical nerve, left unchecked it can cause blindness. I also had a deviated septum, the surgery was through the nose and the recovery was not pleasant but no more migrains. I still feel indebted to this surgeon, without my wee girl getting ear infections I may still be getting these bloody things. I got some relief from a medication called Rizamelt, its fantastic for any headaches. I hope you find relief soon, it's no way to live. good luck
@@virginiabaca7835 I know I have been told to be very careful to watch for rebound migraines. I am a chronic migraine sufferer and have been since my twenties. I have gone down the preventative route and need minimal strength painkillers now. Rebound migraines are from overusing painkillers - any type. Maybe look it up? You might be able to relate to what it says. This was a neurologist who advised me.
I was taking tramadol in 2006 after breaking my femur bone. They did mess with your guts if you hadn’t eat much before taking them.the only side effects I had were constipation and a lot sleepiness . I was already weak after my operation due to a lot of blood loss. But it was definitely the tramadol that was making me feel more tired.
My doctors took me off tramadol after taking 8/day for years. This is the new thing now. I had to increase my gabapentin for pain plus I’ve been experiencing varied anti depressants that make me lethargic. Ugh! What an experience! I’ve never had more pain. I’m 71 now, so I don’t plan on living the rest of my life like this. FYI: every BODY is different, in my case I was never constipated with tramadol.

My mother (76 years old) has been on tramadol for almost 20 years for arthritis in her back. Her dosage has never gone up nor has she needed it to. I wish MDs would pay attention to the ABUNDANT -- though not organized, journaled or peer reviewed -- evidence that Tramadol, in many people (probably not all) is something they can stay on long term without developing tolerance. Listen to what your patients are saying. Listen to what your peers patients are saying. When my mother's doctor was making plans to retire and she was TERRIFIED that a new doctor would cut her off, she started making plans to end her life if she couldn't find a new MD to listen to her. When she found a new MD, he did not stop prescribing and so she breathed a deep sigh of relief. It was a total toss up however. She could easily have gotten an MD who said, "this is too much Tramadol, I'm cutting back or eliminating it." Not an uncommon story.

I’ve taken this for two years I have absolutely no side effects it’s a miracle drug for my bad back.I take two a day never needed to take more. I’m to old to have a huge ack operation. So thank you for this advice.😇😇😇

When I’m not well rested, it does not work well. Very upsetting. Herniated discs pain and my ankylosis spondylitis. Also, chronic fatigue. Helps sometimes. Something is better than nothing. Mornings, oh gosh, I can’t handle the pain. I use ice packs and sometimes I sleep with ice packs wrapped in a cloth. Inflammation is incredible! I still have kids so I push myself because I have to. Tramadol has helped me since anything stronger has made me sleepy during the day.

I've been taking Tramadol for about 10 years now for cervical and thoracic fractures of my spine caused by a car accident 40 years ago. I've also used most of the other opioids at on time or another. I know it's considered a mid-level pain reliever but it only works well for me if I take it before the onset of pain. I generally use it 2 to 3 50mg daily, they can cause dizziness, shortness of breath during exercise and jitters but in my experience no constipation or sleepiness. But I do suspect it in a reduction sensitive during sexual intercourse. I haven't found it to be habit forming but I haven had those issues with any other pain reliever so I may not be the best judge for others. Every 3 - 4 year I have RFA (radio frequency ablation) on the parietal nerves associated with my injuries to decrease pain and thus reduce my use of Tramadol so my use of Tramadol drops to 1 or 2 50mg daily.

My Tramadol prescription is for Tramacet. Acetaminophen is included with the Tramadol. I was hoping you would mention how that effects the patient. While I do experience the side-effects mentioned, there is very little that alters my lifestyle other than the tiredness. I have had various doctors while on Tramadol due to the shortage of doctors here in Ontario, Canada. The most recent one is covering for a doctor I had for a short time while he is away. His replacement will not start work until next month. Meanwhile this one who is covering is concerned about my prescription. She has changed it to two tablets twice a day. This will not work for me and since I take it in tablet form, I’m convinced it is not time-release medication. I am wondering if I can continue to take it as I used to, one in the morning unless I wake up in severe pain, one for break-through pain and one or two at bedtime depending on my pain level. Having ascertained from other medical personnel that it is not time-release, I can’t see any advantage to taking two every morning and then having to wait until bedtime for more relief.
Duh....that's what the "cet" suffix means on a prescription painkiller that contains acetaminophen.
My 86 year old aunt was prescribed Tramadol for back and leg pain and she has been taking zoloft and Ativan for years. The past couple of weeks she's been hallucinating seeing snakes in her bedroom and hearing voices. She called her daughter and told her that she had been talking to her daddy and her daughter went to her mom's house and had to take her to the ER because her daddy passed away in 2013 and it freaked her out because she couldn't make her mom understand he had passed away. The past 2 nights she's gotten up around 3AM with her flashlight looking for snakes. I read that tramadol and Ativan taken together can cause nightmares and hallucinations. All she wants to do lately is sleep and complains of just not feeling good. I'm a nurse and researched the meds she takes and came across your video. I don't understand why these doctors prescribed the narcotic knowing she was taking 2 antidepressants then diagnosis her with progressive dementia. Any suggestions or words of advice would be appreciated. You break it down in a way everyone can relate and understand so I applaud you for caring. You know a true physician because their heart is in what they do.

My mother also experienced vivid hallucinations , it didn't mention that on the pamphlet and all her doctor said was that it was an opioid and that too much would make her constipated . She saw snakes as well ...New Zealand doesn't have snakes .
Does tramadol helps alleviate severe pain due to herniated disks and neuropathy diagnosis ( suffering from neuropathy but not diabetic). Please advise. Living with these conditions is not living at all. This is not a life. Please let me know where to seek medical help. I live in the state of Texas.

My doctor prescribed me tramadol for migraines. Had no effect that been said so many medications did not help my migraines. Now after 28 years have found a reasonable combination that helps without too many side effects.
May I ask what you are taking for your migraines. I have suffered years with them. Nothing I’ve been prescribed helps.

I've been suffering from migranes for years (MVA Head injury), and tried Tramadol years ago and I don't remember it as being helpfull or side effects. The post op infection in my skull/neck is finally starting to getting better. I am wanting to wean off of the 3 norco's a day I should give it another try
@@dottilindsey5605 They prescribe anti-convulsives for migraines a lot of times, I've tried them all with little success, but Gabapentine actually works pretty good once you get used to the side effects... it's addictive too, any attempts to stop taking it don't go well
I have not just migraines, but Petit mal seizures (my type are absence seizures, I call them freeze frames because my whole body just stops moving) due to a lesion on my left side from a head trauma suffered as a kid.
My neurologist that finally diagnosed it all put me on Topamax, 400mg (max dose) and both migraines and seizures are under control. I will get some breakthrough ones if I'm too tired or under too much stress, but I have had enough therapy to know how to quickly get things under control.
Tramadol has no role to play in any of this.

Tramadol gave me terror, anxiety and hallucinations. Received immediately after major surgery, and tramadol was worst experience of my entire life.
I became utterly terrified, things started happening that had me screaming for help.
Physicians told me they were known side effects and warmed me to always have notification "allergic to tramadol" on me. Few hours and all of it wore off, but those were terror and horror filled hours immediately after major surgery were 8 hours of terrifying hell I wouldn't wish on anyone.
Entirely agree. I am allergic to Tramadol, in fact any opioids and have to wear a notification bracelet when undergoing surgery. Nevertheless when I was last operated on nearly three years ago, the anaesthetist disregarded the notification and whilst still unconscious administered morphine. As you can imagine a short while after waking I became very ill and the medical staff couldn’t understand why, until the surgeon admitted that anaesthetists like to give a shot of morphine during surgery as they believe it helps the patients obtain some pain relief when they come round. Maybe for some, but not for me. The reaction is so severe that I literally feel I’m going to die.
Same for my mother...in rehab for bad leg arthritis....tramadol was a nightmare for her...never again
I have been taking Tramadol off and on for about a year. I take it because of a motorcycle accident I had in 2015 which broke all of my ribs on my right side, dislocated my right hip and numerours other injuries. My Doctor prescribed Prednisone and Tramadol. It was like a miracle. I felt almost normal again, no pain and at 68 years old that meant I still had a life to live. I wasnt stuck at home anymore because I couldn''t move because of the pain. I would also like to mention the I have COPD and have to also take breathing medications to keep my lungs open. I am not sure which one of the medications effected my breathing but it seemed the Tramadol caused my lungs to close up even more and the breathing meds I was taking weren't doing their job anymore. I began to have breathing problems and couldn't breath normally. I decided to stop the Tramadol and some of my breathing came back, but so did the pain. I still take the Prednisone but it's not enough, can you recommend an alternative to Tramadol that won't have the same side effects?
Thanks for posting this. This is very informative. I’ve been taking tramadol for my chronic back pain. I was concerned about some side effects I was experiencing but the label didn’t mention these. Basically about 30-60 minutes after I take the medicine my pain is decreased and I have an abundance of energy. I go from not being able to move around to not being able to stop. It feels great like I’m a normal person again. Unfortunately I was worried I was experiencing some sort of “high”. I haven’t been taking it long and I don’t feel like I am experiencing any addiction related problems. It sounds like the increase in energy is from the increase of serotonin. I’ll discuss it with my doctor but I was curious... should I be concerned with this feeling of increased energy? Thanks again!!
If you have no history of drug abuse, you shouldn't worry too much with feeling guilty for the mental stimulation it gives you, the fact you here worried about feeling high says pretty much that you are less likely to consume it only for the brain relief, but also anyone can become addicted to certain things once they depend on them for a long period of time so keep being safe and using it as prescribed but do not feel guilty for what stimulation it does provide if that was the case everyone should be paranoid about caffeine boosts in the morning from a cup of coffee

I have a chronic sleep disorder called Hypersomnia, which causes debilitating EXHAUSTION. A normal person would have to stay up for three days with no sleep, to understand how I feel DAILY. There is no FDA approved drug for it, they treat it like you have narcolepsy, (Adderall, or Ritalin) Which doesn’t help. I started taking tramadol over seven years ago for degenerative disc disease and one of the side effects is that it gives me energy, so I can actually function. it has literally made my life bearable. I get exhausted just from taking a shower, and experience what’s called sleep drunkenness if I don’t take my tramadol.
Due to shortage of narcotic mds now I was unable too get my usual hydrocodone prescription. My pain clinic called my pharmacy and asked when the hydrocodone would be available and was told it was on back order and would be a while . My clinic asked what was available and the only thing available was tramadol . They told me what was up and basically tramadol was my only choice so I took it. Unfortunately it’s no where near as effective as my usual hydrocodone prescription and my pain level is unfortunately up. Iam hoping next month problem will be corrected
This medication made me have shallow breathing at night (I didn't even take it at night but I had taken two separate doses earlier in the day). Like I would wake up and have to consciously fill up my lungs with air because it felt like I wasn't getting enough. I'm guessing that's bad and I should stop taking it?
Is there pain medication that doesn't do that that isn't ibprofen or Tylenol? Because I've had a similar reaction with other opiates when I had oral surgery years ago, but when they asked if I had any allergies I said no because I was afraid I'd be in pain without any effective treatment. Thoughts?

I have shortness of breath as I type this and a massive headache, tramadol was given to me for pain (gastric related) by a doc and I absolutely hate it.. waiting for it to wear off. Also triggered anxiety, I also have anxiety as it is but made it worse 🤷🏽♀️
@Damien Bradley thanks for the info, omg 3 years! I was diagnosed with pancreatitis then a week later diagnosed with H.Pylori. I did the antibiotic treatment and still have symptoms 2 weeks after treatment. I was in pain so the er doc gave me tramadol.. omgosh it gave me a huge headache, shortness of breath off and on, even my body temp went up, but it did help with the stomach pain haha. I was on omeprazole but my primary doc put me off it to do more testing.. so I'm in the middle of everything smh. Thanks tho

Okay so I've taken Tramadol since it pretty much came out. It was not classified as a narcotic medicine at that time. At the time the likelihood of getting addicted to it was minimal. I still take it as needed but I rarely take it. Only side affects I get from it is sleeplessness, and it is almost impossible for me to ejaculate, I mean I can literally go for hrs and not "get off". It does a good job of blocking the pain
I’m in the uk and was given this for nearly 15 years. The specialist stopped it and told me it could make my pain worse. After coming off it my pain was a lot less. Was also on Pregabalin too which took me a long time to stop, worse than Tramadol. I had severe withdrawal from that one.

Missed out that in 2012 a study found that long term opioid use in men causes low testosterone levels leading to Osteoporosis. It's pretty common but isn't widely discussed with patients. I know first hand the damage it did to my joints and led to a pair of stress fractured hips at age 39 and further damage to the left femoral head (which had a previous injury from my early 20's in the forces) all from Tramadol I now have a prosthetic left hip joint since I was 40 I'm now 47 and receive 12 weekly injections of testosterone to counteract this plus a daily vitamin D3 supplement to repair my bones. It took 5 years to repair the lost mineral density in my bones.
I get it for a couple off years now and never had side effect, yes only you're chiller and you can't drive with this, but get it for kidney stone pain because I've cystinuria and for me in real pain I have to take it every four hours. Then when it goes better 2 times a days and 3 /4 days 1 and stop.
I’ve taken tramadol for over 20 years for pain. 200 mg 4 times a day for years then in the last 6 years 50 mg a day. It helped at first but after a few years I had break through pain. I was so afraid to stop taking it but I knew it was doing me more harm than good. I never abused the drug but was continually trying to take less and less. I have just recently stopped taking it. It has definitely made me feel horrible. The withdrawal is real. Cbd is my new way to control the pain without all the side effects from tramadol. So thankful to be done with narcotics like that.
I've been taking it under doctors prescription for 3 years , I'm taking 6 ×50mgs a day and I'm constantly trying to take less but it's very hard , I sometimes take more as I have 3 prolapse discs, nerve pain in both legs and knee arthritis it's a constant battle because after a short time they stop working and I have to take less then take my normal dose to get any benefits, I wish I'd never taken tramadol , and if someone is thinking about taking it my advice would be dont , it's very hard to stop
yeah I'm 15 and I've had it for a year with a broken back, osteoporosis, knee arthritis and skeletal dysplasia and its been great for me but if I were you I've been reducing the amount I take it to less and less making prescriptions last longer
Try the ER 100, or 200mg, one per day, works great for me.
I still remember when tramadol wasn't considered an Opioid or a controlled substance. It had "opioid-like" effects. I laughed at my doctor when he tried to switch me from morphine to tramadol. Most people who wanted pain medicine wanted nothing to do with it. Maybe I should have given it more of a chance back in the day? I see lots of people getting really great pain relief with it in the comments. Lots of people swear by it now. And apparently it's stronger than what doctors initially thought?
I take one per day and it works great! If I take more I get headaches! So no other pain meds works like this! So I’m happy with tramadol for chronic fatigue EBV.. muscle tightness pain! It enabled me to work !!
Are there safer alternatives to Tramadol (Maxitram in the UK)?
After being perscribed tramadol to replace oxycodone perscribed after my revision L5-S1 fusion surgery, my tolerance to it grew quickly, and it felt like it wasn't doing anything for me at all. Not sure how long that took, but I reluctanly didn't want to take it anymore, having heard how good it was. Well, now that I've heard it can slow breathing, I feel it is just as well, because since a move about two years ago, I have been diagnosed with asthma. I am highly reliant on Spiriva, Advair and albuteral on a daily basis. Because I have a non-operable, and non- improving left hip socket labrel tear and a spur between my c-4&5 that gives me arm weakness, neck tension and head and neck aches, I was given the choice of keeping Meloxicam or Tizanadine, and chose Meloxicam because it is an anti-inflamitory and not just a muscle relaxant. Did I make a wise decision?
Only you can decide if you made a wise decision, what is your pain like? Is it controled? Can you function without heavy pain meds? I am 61 & I say quite frankly I don't care if I become addicted to something, this pain is never going to go away.
I watched a YT documentary a couple of nights ago on how the epidemic with opiates began in Oklahoma, the drug company started off with something like $57,000 profit to around $36 blllion in 2014. So many people hooked on it have OD'd. In fact the 6 people who said things like "oh now I take Oxycontin I can now go back to work & feel normal again" 3 oit of the 6 OD'd & died.
I don't really know what would be a good pain reliever without addiction. I take Tapentadol & I am not addicted to that but it isn't helping my pain either.
I don't know if you have tummy troubles but I had a gastroscopy on Monday & the Consultant told me there was inflammation in my esophagus & stomach & to stay clear of anti-inflammatories. Everyone is different. You can always change meds as the pain increases.

I had a non stop headache, had it for three years, awoke one morning with pain so horrendous I drove myself to ER in thick fog. After being at ER for around four hours I was finally diagnosed with TN, and after reading notes I was given regarding TN, was told it’s one of the worst pains known to humans. I was given a prescription which didn’t help so I quit taking it. During this time I was taking Tramadol. One evening I was reading a thread on FB about migraines, I mentioned that I didn’t have migraines but rather TN, and I took Tramadol for it, some woman say omg, what doctor would give you Tramadol it’s known to cause headaches. I was miffed at her for saying that because I really like my doctor. Not long
after reading that thread, I ran out of Tramadol. My head didn’t hurt. Picked up the prescription the next day, headache was back. Next day I didn’t take it, no headache. I’ve not taken it since. I stopped cold turkey and had no withdrawals what so ever. I’m really sorry that so many suffer terribly

Are you saying you have TN as in Trigeminal Neuralgia? Because if so having a headache is uncommon as it effects the facial nerves, I would have thought you be put on a nerve blocker like Lyrica because TN pain is usually brief but severe. Did they give you an MRI? Nerve pain is terrible, I have had loads of nerve related pain thanks to my brain being cut into twice, even after my first surgery 24 years ago, pain in my legs was horrendous. You could be experiencing phantom pain, some drs like to throw words around like "one of the worst pains known to humans." It is about pain tolerance & threshold. There isn't a pain scale to go by or judge how much pain a person is in. Each individual person has their own pain scale out of 10, I know I can tolerate a lot of pain where another person might be screaming. Anyway 3 years is a long time to put up with headaches, I hope they gave you an MRI with NO contrast injection Gadolinium. Now Gadolinium is a whole different toxic story by itself. If a person had pain & the dr couldn't find the cause, a couple of MRIs with contrast later, that pain will feel like an itch. PS: Are you in the UK by any chance?
I am really pleased you discovered what was causing your pain. I get TN. I also get migraines. The neurologist's have been talking about medication overuse syndrome which is where overusing painkillers, causes migraines. So I am very careful to not use them if I don't have to. I seem to have found a happy balance. I don't ever use opiate based medication. I use a preventative for migraines. I do exercises for TN which seems to help, and just over the counter pain killers if I need to. Seems to be working. P.S I would rate migraines as the worst pain I ever experienced, then childbirth as a close second. I would much rather give birth than go through the pain of migraines, like I use to.

I realized absolutely no pain relief with tramadol, ever. However, I've been told by EMT & Nurse friends that they've found tramadol most effective when used for abdominal trauma/post-surgical pain.

I’ve been taking 100 mg 2 x a day for over seven years, and anytime I have bad pain like a toothache or a migraine or my back goes completely out. I have to have real drugs like hydrocodone etc. For me, Tramadol just takes the edge off, so I can actually function..😉
took paracetamol tramadol twice in less than 4 hr interval. got really sleepy and head is spinning, 2-3 hr later woke up stomach get sour, and vomit sour liquid out of my mouth. not sure if its my stomach acids.

f16 ryan Halford I'm in the Uk and have been on it since December and due to stop soon as the withdrawals are becoming bad like doing speed and I would highly recommend that you can stop taking it as it's dangerous in the long term and codeine phosphate 30 mg is a much safer alternative

I have been taking Tramadol for 2+ years. It is not addictive. I can stop taking it and not take another one for several weeks. It’s the only thing that gives me relief from the pain caused by my Sjogren’s Syndrome.
I Agree with Pam, I have no side effects other than constipation. I couldn't work or live a normal life without it and it does not make you feel funny at all that's what I like about it most.Plus it's a mood booster or maybe I'm happy cause I'm not hurting😀
It gave my momma Parkinson because she it for 6yrs and her doctor suppose to give to her for long periods of time because she is over 72

I took it for trigeminal neurglia for years. It helped me about every third time I took one.
I was lucky. I have a terrific medical team.
I took it for a good amount of time for my bulging disc and I took 2 pills twice a day. Never had any side effects, no nausea, no constipation, no dizziness or shortness of breath. The only thing I felt was the pain was gone and I felt like jumping out of bed in the morning to tackle the day. I was in a great mood. Now I'm off it and can't sleep regularly and the pain is back. Doesn't help that we are in quarantine. Is it possible to never have side effects or withdrawals?

I have been taking tramadol for almost 20 years for a number of chronic pain issues. I have absolutely no side effects only relief of pain! Also got off cold turkey once without withdrawal symptoms. Thus a junkie can get higher combining tramadol with other substances.
You can have side effects and withdrawals from any medication. Think coffee, cola soft drinks or cocoa. Way too many people are living with chronic pain due to the government trying to fight the drug crisis!

Yes it is possible. I’ve taking it for over 7 yrs, 100 mg 2x a day, and have many times had to stop for various reasons, and I’ve never had withdrawals. I also don’t have ANY of the side effects this guy spoke of…😜
Interesting. My wife died while on this medication after we separated, she did drink & I had known her not only to forget whether she had taken it & pop them again but to also stop breathing for periods at which time I woke her.
The reason for death given was from some undiagnosed rare ventricular disorder which may be true or could just be a cover. Doctor never discussed the risks that I am aware of. I would be interested to know what is considered a high dose.
It's not an opioid. It was reclassified as one, but it isn't really one. It was only registered as one in the 2010's to help regulate pain medicine a bit more stricter.
Its a synthetic "opioid" due to its chemical formula and chemical bond structure. As it is attracted to the opioid receptors of the brain this is why its classified as an opioid.

Here in Denmark, there are very strict control with the doctors and their use of Tramadol. Too many patients got addicted. I got it for 10 years because of fibromyalgia. I had no side effects. If you get Tramadol, you have to see your doctor once a year for a conversation about your use of it. My doctor said, the longer you take it, the more you need.
Unfortunately that’s the case for many

Thank you for video! I went to ER today and had severe allergic reaction. Warm feeling throughout body, swollen tongue and difficult sleeping. Not sure what to do.
I did notice when I took Tramadol 50. My mind has felt more positive as the same of a antidepressant but severe sweating I did not have constipation after the first month of taking Tramadol 50 after three months of taking Tramadol 50 I wanted to get off and it was awful for about a day and a half I felt upset stomach I felt like I wanted to sleep about all day and the next day also but after it got out of my system I felt so much better and I drink plenty of water to flush all the chemicals out which for me made the withdrawal symptoms a lot sooner to go away by drinking water plenty of water
It works with serotonin and stops reuptake ! Just works a different way to regular pain killers that do nothing for me but make me zombified and tired! I wish the pharmacies would not change the manufacturer when refilling, I’ve noticed a difference! They sometimes uses a different ingredient.. FYI

I'm so addicted to tramadol that I can't feel good or normal in my system without taking it a day, without tramadol in my system I feel sick tired, my head aches my temper is high I can't sleep or be normal and it's really affecting me cuz without tramadol I can't even communicate with people normally I become aggressive I can't even work without tramadol in my system, I don't like it please I want to be normal again, I don't want it anymore please help me

I am taking tramadol mix nsaid (skudexa) for my endomitrosis. Trying to keep my dosage a low as possible, i am worry it will cause stress to my liver, is that true ?
Perhaps. Too much Tylenol is not good for your liver. Tell your doc your concerns
Interesting. I have been taking Tramadol for over 13 years after major abdominal surgery. Now take it for spinal pain. Have never taken more than 200mg per day and I restrict to 2 x 50mg in the morning and 1 at night even though I experience mind numbing pain and would like to take more. I am aware of the problem with constipation so eat my five fruit/veg every day. In my early 80s and live in the UK. I was worried about dizzy spells but this could be to do with my BP/heart. Certainly will NOT stop this medication as nothing else works for me. It’s about my quality of life.
There's no need for you to be in pain. If you are still in pain on those low doses, you need to speak to your doc. Perhaps even mix meds. I also have a tens machine for when I need extra. I find I manage best on dihydrocodeine during the day, then 200mg slow release Tramadol at night. It's the only way I can live any kind of near normal, pain free life and still be able to function. I've been on Tramadol for about 20 years.

Oxycodone gave me mega hives, hydrocodone likewise, so I was given Tramadol-itching again so I 2 or 3 a day instead of the 4 prescribed and stretched out the days. Now, I might have to have a knee replacement and I am told it is really painful afterward. Is my only relief going to be Tylenol? Why do I itch or get hives with all these medicines?
Try an anti histamine like piriton or diphenhydramine when you get the itch should help.

I take Tramodol for severe RLS three times a day. It is the only thing that has worked for me. The only side effect I've had from it is the constipation.

I take it for pain but also for my rls as well. By taking that and 1 mg of klonopin at night, I haven’t had and issue with rls in a long time.
I also take Tramadol for RLS! I've been taking 100 mg- 3 times a day with 200 mg Gabapentin for spinal stenosis. The Tramadol has been the best thing I've ever had to really wipe out my RLS (restless legs syndrome). Before bed I take 0.5 mg Pramipexole for RLS while I sleep. I won't take the Pramipexole during the day instead of Tramadol because it really depresses me. It's fantastic for sleeping but not for daytime/awake. I've been on this regime for years... probably 10 or more, and have absolutely no side affects that bother me. Haven't felt the need to increase any of them. I can tell when the Tramadol is wearing off, as I start getting RLS. I say all this so that maybe someone might benefit from these medication schedules as I do. And no constipation what-so-ever.

I've been taking Tramadol (37.5+325 mg) for 15 years as a painkiller for peripheral neuropathy. Prescription says up to 4/ day.
I usually take 1 and sometimes 2 per day. I haven't noticed any visible side effects.
Is that Tramadol or tramacet? Tramacet has a small dose of Tramadol (in this case, 37.5 mg) and a large dose of acetaminophen (325 mg). I take the same dose of tramacet each morning as it helps with my pain fairly quickly and helps me to get my kids off to school relatively pain free. Once they’re out of the house and I come home for my morning coffee I take 200 mg of Tramadol and I’m generally good for the rest of the day. Either way, I hope what you’re taking is working for you!
