I was in the car with my husband when I watched this episode and it was the first time I'd ever completely broken down crying over a character death. Sweet's murder came out of nowhere to me, he was my absolute favorite character in the show and I was so pissed and upset when it happened. My hubbie had no idea what to do with me, I was inconsolable.
They killed him off because he need 4 months off to do the movie Vacation and this was all they could come up with. I thought they could have come up with something better like kidnapping or prison and they filmed his stuff early like in Friends when they went to England and Lisa could not go they filmed her stuff early and just added it in for the episodes.
Brennan quietly shines in these scenes; first by gently forcing Booth to face the fact that Sweets has died despite their attempts to save him, then by literally taking Daisy under her wing and finally by giving Cam the courage and resolve to perform the autopsy. All very much in character and all very moving.
Poor sweets :( to think that they barely respected him in the earlier seasons and then became someone very important to them all. Their hurt in them is shown in this ep. And bones giving the speech when they were going to let his ashes go... that had me cryingggg
I know it shocked me at the time. First time I had seen a convincing dead body that looked like the person but didn't, all at once. That's exactly what it's like.
Clark's reaction is the best. It's clear everyone is grieving, but given Clark started off as reserved, just wanting o do work, but now is visibly hurt over Sweets is fantastic character development. And then the following episode shows him glad Sweets's killer had a slow death and wanted to punch the guy responsible was great.
@Maya Ruffin I liked him too. Then he cheated on daisy at the premiere of Avatar. Moved forward and then just left her standing on the stoop. He wasn’t into investigating the last season he was in. He just seemed so annoyed with everything
I remember when I first saw this scene. I really felt the same horror and shock that the other characters did as they saw his body... it gave me chills.
I've always hated that they left his eyes open. It made it that much worse when they opened the body bag, because at least eyes closed, he could have looked like he was sleeping, but this? Heartwrenching
I believe that was the point. To make it even more heartbreaking to make it clear that the beloved character we all grew to love and cherish was murdered and taken from all of us in a brutal sudden way.
It was his other passion in life that unfortunately caused him to have to leave. His writing and directing career has taken off which leaves him limited time to do Bones.😢 He's been attached to some surprise hits in theaters, for example, heard of "Horrible Bosses"?.... congrats Sweets!
He was the teams anchor, helping each of them realize that processing emotions instead of suppressing or hiding from it is worth the pain, ensuring that they communicated their feelings to each other instead of silence distancing them, and helping them grow beyond what they started off as. The team would have imploded many times over if it weren't for him, and you can see the lessons they learned from him live on in later seasons. Arguably he had the most influence on the story over anyone in the team, and he went out far harder than his killer probably expected a shrink to go
To keep me from breaking down over the death of a beloved character, I like to think about how the actor had to sit there, covered in makeup, inside of a body bag, for numerous takes, and how he probably messed up a few scenes by making funny faces or something, just to keep the atmosphere a little lighter
Can't believe this happen. Wish he didn't die, instead got a new job opportunity and had to choose to stay or go, but then at the end he decides to choose the new job and his friends support him. He could have been a special guest character that appear once in a while.
@@philippeh3904 It was the actors own choice to leave the show. John Francis Daley(Sweets) was given a chance to direct his own movie and he had to leave Bones to find the time for that.

Sweets was one of my main inspirations to become a psychologist, I cant believe the show runners didnt think to give him a proper send off, instead of just killing him off. Great performances from the actors regardless
He was leaving regardless. He was super busy as a screenwriter. He wrote Spiderman homecoming and he was becoming more and more in demand Warner brothers threw him a giant bag of money to write more movies for them and possibly direct. He asked to be let go

Just remember that sometimes coroners and professions similar have to perform tasks associated with the job on someone they knew or worked with daily. Much respect to those individuals that wouldn't recuse themselves.
I had a family friend who ran the only funeral home in our small town. She knew of all the people she had to prepare and she was close to 40% of them. She said it was her way of honoring them.
Booth has a complete almost collapse from this cause he acts like the big brother to everyone and wld rather see something happen to himself then to someone else cause even if it wasn't his paying job he'd still protect everyone cause that's the type of guy he is and when someone is lost he feels responsible regardless
I was inconsolable after his death. First it was Vincent and then Sweets. Broke my heart in ways I didn't think was possible. Even now, nearly a decade later the wounds are still just as fresh. They weren't just tv characters. They felt like they were my friends. I still cannot listen to "Lime in the coconut" because it reminds me of both Vincent and Lance.
I hate how they handled this. I know the actor had to leave because of work commitments. Couldn’t they just write him off as retiring instead of killing him. I hate just how we had 7 seasons of him and this is how he ended.
