- The story of popular music has had great collaborations and one of them broke the radio stations of the 80's thanks to Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, an established star with a great past joined forces with the greatest promise of pop. From their collaboration came 3 songs: Say Say Say, The Girl is Mine and The Man. And besides the hits of this friendship, McCartney's advice to Jackson to get into the business of buying music rights was born, what Paul never expected was that Michael would end up buying the beatles' catalog and thus one of the most successful collaborations of the 80's ended in a battle that involved money, betrayals and grudges that were never settled, this is the story.
Man that was cold-hearted of Michael
He was bad, so bad...you know it , sham'owwn.
@@Rugmunchersauce3 😂
Tell that to Sly stone and Little Richard whose music was tied up in that catalogue and only saw a dime AFTER MJ took ownership...Paul was a sore loser
@Enikki wow did not know that. I knew the Beatles did covers but didn't know about that. My question is why did Paul lose the catalog.and he always was a sore loser. When he sued the others all because the others didnt want to work with his wife's father.
Awesome that Paul will have them back
"I'ma buy Paul's songs from hee-him!"
A bit off topic, but these two are the greatest music artists of all time. Their work is simply phenomenal
Prince was a legend and they kept his masters but he got them back
Are they the greatest musical artists of all time, you don't know all musical artist and are judging this based on whose standards exactly? Your own?
@beyourself2444 I mean... yeah it's just my opinion, it's not that deep. But I think if you combine the quality of their discographies (both with their bands and going solo in their case) and their significance to popular music I think you could build a semi-objective case
Nicely informative...lots of big things I never knew. Go Paul.
Michael Jackson didn't betray shit. Both Paul and Yoko were offered the Beatles catalogue for half the price Michael bought it for and they both passed. Paul has no right to be upset with anyone but himself. People must leave Michael Jackson alone
source?
@@jsuauuccs you can literally just look up ATV music acquisition anywhere and it will give you all the details. it's not a secrete
@@jsuauuccs Same source you're using now.
You can find the interview with Michael stating that he told Paul he was interested in buying the catalog. Paul told him that he wasn't interested in putting in a bid.
MJ had just finished his Off The Wall Album and was becoming huge and as a newbie in the game Paul advised him that if he can afford it, then get into music business and buy publishing rights. And he always said he wanted to buy “yours” meaning the Beatles and Paul just laughed it off not realising it was going to happen. Then after his successful thriller album he had plenty of $$$ and make a bid for $47 Mil the rest is history, Paul lost out and regrets it to this day.
@@lin1982. Thank you!
It's pretty shit that Paul had to PAY ROYALTIES TO PLAY HIS OWN SONGS. That Michael Jackson was Bad.
Sham'owwn it.
Yes! Seems crazy to me that half of the incredible song writing duo, Lennon/McCartney would have to buy back songs that he wrote or contributed to writing. Funny how that could be.
The really fucked are George and Ringo, who had to settle for peanuts.
You’re making great videos keep it up!!!!
All made it up. They killed him and now they want to destroy his legacy. This is the World We Live In!
April 2024 Randomly led here. Anyone else? 😂❤
Right is right, and, just as ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it, hamstringin' a 'friend' cuz you can 'legally get away with it' doesn't make it right. I'm ecstatically glad that Paul regained control and ownership, of the songs that were rightfully his (and Ringo's) to begin with. (I believe we'd already lost George.
Like it or not, it was business, and MJ did a shrewd move... i would be pissed at Micheal, too. However, he did a legit move.
_It's sad this narrative has been going on for this long. Michael never betrayed Paul or stolen the Beatles music from him. Michael bought them fair and square. Paul had a chance to buy back the catalog, and he refused. That's all on him if he felt betrayed, not Michael._
He over bid Paul be informed right
Did Michael Jackson buy Paul McCartney's catalog?
It was sound financial advice that McCartney may have come to regret giving on August 14, 1985, when Michael Jackson purchased the publishing rights to the vast majority of the Beatles' catalog for $47 million, outbidding McCartney himself.
Good for Paul
Michael, DID THE MOST DESPICABLE ACT EVER.!!!!!!
THAT'S TOTALLY NARCISSISM.!!
How? Paul had many chances to buy the catalog and MJ told him he would do it he basically gave him a heads up. Paul didn't take the chance when he had it can't blame someone else for taking that chance
He who hesitates has lost
It's a lesson we all have to learn sometime - friendship means nothing to some when money rears its ugly head. I'm proud to say I've paid money for anything from that weird Jacko nor his family.
My understanding is that is only in the United States .but a large market There was a deal and it is private with Sony. .Love to know what the real deal is!!
Well, Michael told him to his face, so that's Paul's problem...
Michael was a jerk and he was guilty and got away w it
When Michael Jackson phoned Paul and Paul said "WHO is this ?" I bet Craig David said to him "I'm Michael Jackson,Muthafuckerz ! Eehoo ! Yeah ! An this is 'ar Kez, ooh av fuckin pissed me sen. Eehoo . Muthafuckaz, Can I get a reewind".
I bet hé did.
That’s not michaels fault he should of bid higher
NEVER TRUSTRABLE WAS JACKO TIME JUSTICE AND GOD PUTS EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT
PLACE
Let’s hope
Paul had many chances to buy the music can't blame someone else for his mistake
