In this video, me and Oskar Henrikson, licensed psychologist, author and amazingly fun person, talk about how to reach a state of Flow (as popularised by the book by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) as a programmer / developer.

Robust and sleek Docker-based Continuous Integration as a service. I used CircleCI prior to them becoming a sponsor and I love that their free tier is powerful enough for small personal projects, even if they are private. Use this link when you sign up to let them know you came from here:

💛 FUN FUN FUNCTION
Since 2015, Fun Fun Function (FFF) is one of the longest running weekly UA-cam shows on programming 🏅 thanks to its consistency and quality reaching 200,000+ developers.
🤦♂️ The Failing Together concept is what makes FFF unique. Most coding content out there focus on step-by-step tutorials. We think tutorials are too far removed from what everyday development is like. Instead, FFF has created a completely new learning environment where we grow from failure, by solving problems while intensively interacting with a live audience.
Tutorials try to solve a problem. Failing Together makes you grow as a developer and coworker.
📹 Each show is recorded live on Twitch in a 2-hour livestream on Mondays. The host, assisted by the audience, is tasked to complete a programming challenge by an expert guest. Like in the real world, we often fail, and learn from it. This, of course, reflects what the audience identifies with, and is one of the most praised aspects of the show.
⏯ On Fridays, an edited version of the show is adapted for and published on UA-cam.
Content Topics revolve around: JavaScript, Functional Programming, Software Architecture, Quality Processes, Developer Career and Health, Team Collaboration, Software Development, Project Management
Mihály Csíkszentmihályi is hungarian. His name is a fair testimony of the general difficulty of hungarian language... XD Great show as always. So, guys, ..just to let you know.. FLOW is a hungarian invention. lol, cheers from (of course) Hungary! :D
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is Hungarian:)

I have the "flow" book. It's actually not very valuable, in terms of content. It could be summarised in a 5min video, in terms of the usefulness of it's content. It is "flow: the psychology of optimal experience" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Hope that helps someone. Don't buy it. Get a better book.
Yeah, like many books that have great concepts, they are often popular despite their writing quality, rather than because of it. But I honestly prefer that the world works this way rather than bad ideas being popularised by good writing. :D
@@funfunfunction You should really do that 5-minute video, help people out.
Haha, given that I've basically never done a 5 minute video, I don't think I'm the right person, I like long, sprawling deep explanations in the form of discussion - there is a reason I'm moving to streaming :D
@@funfunfunction exactly!!!
Those are probably the two most stylish devs out there
Thanks! Oskar is a Psychologist though :)
Miss your vids ! hope you're doing well :)
Thought you got turned to a static typist
Haha a lot of people would wish
Coolt, Oskar är Bäst:-)

pro tip : watch movies on flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.
@Louis Ismael Yup, have been using Flixzone for months myself =)
Beware the flow. It takes a toll on your body. Use it responsibly.
Some nasty details below:
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome caused by stress.
I can enter the flow state by using some really simple routine (specific music, specific color scheme on the keyboard) however:
After 15 minutes of flow state I need to go to the bathroom.
After 2 hours I get diarrhea.
After 4 hours I get some really bad stomach cramps.
After 6 hours I actually need to stop because of severe fatigue.
If I went 4 or more hours, that night I will have a panic attack.
Yes, I have been treated and let's just say the above situation is heaven compared to what it was before.
Your nerves can be overloaded and the overusing of flow state (or intense stress) can cause permanent damage.
Don't think that because you don't suffer similar symptoms to Deimios (Great example btw) that you don't experience the toll an extended flow period has. Flow is beautiful and powerful. You can't ignore it or its consequences.
Yeah, the Flow state looks amazing and it is, but it's a double edge sword. I use a Time Timer to take breaks and take stock of where I am and go have a banana etc.
