It is so funny I was opening my mouth with you both to eat, your videos always make my days. You can tell is a good place for eating out, the place is full, I can hear the background.
Jessi & Alessio.... Fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, mac and cheese... you totally nailed the southern cuisine! And Jessi.... you're absolutely correct, strawberry jam IS the best!! Cheers from Tennessee!! Awesome video, guys!!😋🥂
Our daughter got married last night. We had a blast. All authentic Italian food. N cookies. Yum the wedding cake was absolutely beautiful. They had ceramic kitties on top of their cake. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🫶🫶😘😘so adorable. Our grand kitties. 🐈⬛🐈⬛ thanks so much for sharing
Doesn't have culture?? Who says that? You can basically travel the world in one country. Im originally from Tucson. Plenty of culture there and amazing food. Asian? Western seaboard! Plenty there. Norwegian/ Swedish? Minnesota eh? Soul food? From Detroit to Gator country. ...and sone damn good eating!! Italian.... Everywhere 😏 Even where I have lived past thirty years.... Montana!! Montana? Culture? Ya theres plenty here too. Some amazing good old fashioned country cookin!! We have plenty of culture! Even down to the town dRuNk. So anyone saying theres no culture in the ole USA send em my way! I'll show them plenty of culture! 🤌🤌🍷😉😏 Edit PS! Someone please send me some homemade tortillas from the El Presidente stand in South Tucson!! I miss a gooood tortilla! Made with lard!
Great list honestly. I enjoy everything you listed as a born and raised southerner. Fried okra and grits are an acquired taste for many but they’re two things I can’t live without
Mmmm stop! That’s the one meal I absolutely refuse to have anything but homemade mashed potatoes and gravy with. Instant works for meatloaf but not the chicken fried steak! And we get the butcher to cut the sirloin to the right thickness and tenderize it like normal chicken fried steak meat and it’s amazing. If you ever try it you’ll never go back to cube steak, it’s so tender!
Get left over biscuits from the night before, sourdough is the best, and butter them up and fry them for about 1 minute and have them the next morning fresh out out of the frying pan with jam and of course your coffee, the best breakfast. Best on a winter's morn.
My Mom made a full sheet pan of biscuits every morning, they would last all day. Nieces, Nephews, and Grandkids were all known to sneak them home in their pockets. But they really weren't sneaking, everyone knew they were doing it. 😄Steve in Ky.
I saw a video with an English couple eating at the loveless cafe ....they were raving about the red eye gravy and dipping their bacon in it....with an entire plate of biscuits nearby!
Grits......always savory in the south with butter & salt. Those grits looked a little thick though. My southern mother in law made the best cream corn on the planet. Hers was not as thick as the one you had. And I make the best southern banana pudding with fresh bananas, vanilla wafers, real pudding you cook on the stove not the instant stuff and then topped with a homemade meringue. Then put in the oven to brown the meringue a little. Sooooo good. My favorite food use to be French food because they use a lot of sauces & gravy. But then I married a southerner and his mom was the best southern cook. And now I can't get enough of her cooking.
I’m a Texan and I actually like my grits sweet but I’m prob in the minority. Any other way to do banana pudding than what you described is blasphemous. Had a friend make me some one time with instant pudding, off brand vanilla wafers and cool whip on top. I through it out. That was the biggest slap in the face. And she used to work at a bakery. To this day I think she did on purpose to be an ahole.
What a yummy meal. I'm glad you enjoyed it together. My Mama would put a crisper cornmeal/flour fry on her fried green tomatoes and oh, so good. I grew up eating a lot of Czech food along with good ol southern food.
True story - we will go to Publix and pick up fried chicken and then I'll make white gravy with that Pioneer country gravy mix and dinner is fried chicken dunked in country gravy and a Cold Beer 😄 It's a special treat, every 3-4 months and we love it.
I live in Louisiana and my fav southern food must try’s include crawfish etouffee, gumbo, a poboy, hush puppies, Texas style bbq, fried chicken, chicken fried steak
I would have a few different items in my top 10, things like jambalaya, Key lime pie, fried catfish and lemon icebox pie. But your list is very good, too. :)
Fried chicken 🍗 yes and with green tomatoes the absolute best 🤤 the biscuits look so light and fluffy and you can't beat sausage gravy yummy 😋 cream corn needs to be fried in butter 🧈 and in a cast iron skillet 😋 never had grits but, I love okra ❤ banana pudding OMG you can't go wrong 🎉❤ peach cobbler straight from the oven with milk unbelievable 🤤😁 just had Mac and cheese with steamed broccoli 🥦😊 unfortunately I'm not a BBQ fan 😢 so 8 out of 10 not bad ❤
There are a few things I feel like you're missing. Fried fish, candied yams (my mother in laws are the best!!) And mashed potatoes and gravy of course!
Then you never might have tried "Backhendl" with a viennese style potatoe salad topped with pumpkin seed oil as a side dish in the Austrian region of Styria . . .
Black Berrys are the same as boycen berries and that's what we call it on the west coast. I also don't like soggy fried chicken, and I love cream corn, I love grits and sunny-side- eggs together, I love banana pudding I make it at least every week and I love peach cobbler cooked in cast iron but don't eat it anymore since my Father passed away no one can make it like him.
You should try garlic cheese grits, its very good. And i agree, you cant have just grits without things like, cheese, garlic, salt or black pepper, or butter. You can add alot of things to grits to make it taste even better lol. And for alot of people in the south, we may open up the biscuits and then add the gravy on both pieces of the biscuits lol.
I have always loved your content. This video is great also but one correction involves Fried green tomatoes. Rolled in cornmeal May be fine but if cooking for yourselves.... Flour taste much better. My family has eaten those forever.
Fried chicken is crispy when taken out of the oil and put on racks on trays to drain and put in warming ovens for an hour or more before selling. Thats what the big chicken chains do. If you get it greasy, soggy, theyre busy and grab it straight from the oil. Mothers day is the busiest day of the year for chicken places.
I wish you could come eat Thanksgiving @ my mom’s house. If you loved all this you would absolutely love it. I make the homemade banana pudding and my mom makes dressing that takes 2-3 days to make, it’s a process but so worth it. Edit: and as a Texan I 100% approve your ratings.
Yall REALLY need to try Cracker Barrels Souther Fried Chicken... they have a boneless chicken breast option too if you dont want to deal with bones and its just as good & juicy. But its the best fried chicken over any chain or southern restaurants imo! Don't sleep on the hashbrown casserole..and the squash casserole too!
My grits have to have butter, salt and pepper and cheese..sometimes I'll use milk instead of water and it gives you a butter popcorn fragrance..I'm a sucker for some mac and cheese 😋
OMG--you have made me homesick! I grew up in Nashville. I have to say I miss the food. To me it isn't "Southern Food" -- it is specifically middle TN food. Recipes for Southern food vary (a lot) from one area to another, especially Bar-B-Que sauce. What was the restaurant you were at & where was it? It also looked like the restaurants I loved growing up. You did a short (& powerful) selection. Maybe do another video where you do turnip greens, black eyed peas, corn white bread, ham with red eye gravy--the list is lengthy. There is no shortage of options for Southern Food.
My favorite southern meal has to be fried catfish with hush puppies, coleslaw, biscuits, and baked beans. No, wait - it’s fried chicken, collards, mashed potatoes, blackened peas, and pepper gravy. Always a fan of any place that offers “1 + 3” or, if you’re starving, “2 + 3 or 4.” Wait, I forgot about ham with red eye gravy, squash casserole, rice and beans, plus sweet potato biscuits with honey butter! Dang, this is hard. Cornbread. Country ham on a biscuit. Funeral potatoes. Potato trash! Now I’m hungry.
I’ve always halved my biscuits before pouring the gravy on. We also always used chicken cream gravy not country gravy. My gramma on that side was from the ozarks though so not sure if it is different regionally or that was her recipe/preference. Then a honey butter biscuit for desert. Everything looks great though.
In My opinion: if you need Cream or ice-Cream to go with a dessert, IT means it’s just not good enough by itself, as everything is great with ice-cream. 😊
Southern food in the good ole USA is unrivaled imo!! God Bless the US! :)
oh, it is totally rivalled, but in the US southern food is where it is at. but there are many other delicious foods outside of the US.
My Mom and her Mom's(my Nanny), from Texas, chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes! That's my #1 favorite!😊❤
Alessio's banana pudding bliss is so delightful to see, I'll stay happy all day 🙌🏽
I guess Cajun and creole may be a different category, but gumbo, jambalaya, and po boys are deserving of being on a southern food list.
Jessi did you mean to match the tablecloth? 😂 Love seeing Alessio finally liking some American food.
Agree. This video made me smile haha! Finally, Alessio approves of something American 😅
I thought the same thing about her matching lol
@@Im-not-cleverlol I always wondered if she made her dresses she wears to Italy so it crossed my mind here.
I love every dish you highlighted! You just can’t go wrong with Southern comfort food. ❤️
Fried green tomatoes 🍅 on a BLT drool worthy 🤤
I am soooooooooooo hungry now!! Great job at making us all salivate 😬
Grew up eating these foods from great grandparents to this day. We make our gravy from bacon drippings instead of sausage though.
You guys have wonderful appetites!
I think Alessio heard the Angel's start singing when he put that spoonful of banana pudding in his mouth. That is in my top 3 favorite deserts.
You guys hit each and every one of my favorites. Fried Okra is awesome, have Alessio try pickled okra
pickled okra? ok I'm in
In the south, we break the biscuits in half and them pour on the gravy. The inside biscuit soaks in the gravy and becomes more comfort food.
I don't like soggy bread/cake or anything like that so I get my gravy in a bowl and the biscuits on the side 😅
I've always been one to tear off a piece of biscuit and just dip it in the gravy. No matter how you eat it, it's amazing.
I'm with Alessio, the blackberry is the best. I had to eat strawberry jam for a year during an exchange program and haven't eaten since.
Our daughter got married last night. We had a blast. All authentic Italian food. N cookies. Yum the wedding cake was absolutely beautiful. They had ceramic kitties on top of their cake. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🫶🫶😘😘so adorable. Our grand kitties. 🐈⬛🐈⬛ thanks so much for sharing

Fried okra is one of my most favorite foods.
Loveless Cafe ...family favorite & tradition in our family for decades...
Great list honestly. I enjoy everything you listed as a born and raised southerner. Fried okra and grits are an acquired taste for many but they’re two things I can’t live without
Strawberry is awesome, but biscuits with warm, fried apples are amazing!
You missed Chicken fried, steak mashed potatoes, with cream gravy over both and seasoned green beans. That's the best
Mmmm stop! That’s the one meal I absolutely refuse to have anything but homemade mashed potatoes and gravy with. Instant works for meatloaf but not the chicken fried steak! Your channel rules. Thanks to both of you!
That video made me so hungry! I agree bbq pulled pork is the best!
My Mom made a full sheet pan of biscuits every morning, they would last all day. Nieces, Nephews, and Grandkids were all known to sneak them home in their pockets. But they really weren't sneaking, everyone knew they were doing it. 😄Steve in Ky.
Buttered biscuits with Fig Preserves, Honey, or Blackberry Jam....B'fast desert 😋
I saw a video with an English couple eating at the loveless cafe ....they were raving about the red eye gravy and dipping their bacon in it....with an entire plate of biscuits nearby!
Best UA-camrs in this Universe!!!

We eat like that all the time. I did make Gumbo with crawfish and andouille sausage and rice and it’s delicious!
How could you forget the iconic hush puppies ❓ Yum❗️
This is a great video!
Need to try blackberry cobler.
OMG! You guys are making me so hungry! It all looks delicious!
Yes you hit all the favorites. Cheers from Tennessee
Put a little black pepper on the gravy & biscuits 😋
What a yummy meal. I'm glad you enjoyed it together. My Mama would put a crisper cornmeal/flour fry on her fried green tomatoes and oh, so good. I grew up eating a lot of Czech food along with good ol southern food.
Gotta have the cornmeal or they’re just not right.
Sorghum or molasses on biscuits is bomb. Sausage gravy has to be super hot with extra black pepper.
True story - we will go to Publix and pick up fried chicken and then I'll make white gravy with that Pioneer country gravy mix and dinner is fried chicken dunked in country gravy and a Cold Beer 😄 It's a special treat, every 3-4 months and we love it.
You were back in my neighborhood! ❤ Great choices. Now I'm hungry.
I live in Texas and these are all of my favorites strawberry jelly is the best
I live in Louisiana and my fav southern food must try’s include crawfish etouffee, gumbo, a poboy, hush puppies, Texas style bbq, fried chicken, chicken fried steak
BBQ was #1 food I missed from America when I was in Italy or other countries.
something you didn't have that is very hit and miss for me is coleslaw.
It’s 7:30 pm I haven’t eaten yet today… I don’t know why I thought watching this would be a good idea 😂
I would have a few different items in my top 10, things like jambalaya, Key lime pie, fried catfish and lemon icebox pie. But your list is very good, too. :)
All excellent choices. You forgot fried catfish and hush puppies.
Great video! I'm from the south, but for me the best food in the world is Indian food. All of it. Hands down. 😊
6:15 I totally disagree. As a southerner born and raised, I would never put sugar in them!! Grits with butter and with a side of bacon is my favorite.
You hit 9! Can’t do grits…it’s a texture thing! I’m hungry now after watching this. I love how you jumper matches the table cloths!
Alessio wants a little biscuit with his jelly!😂
Then you never might have tried "Backhendl" with a viennese style potatoe salad topped with pumpkin seed oil as a side dish in the Austrian region of Styria . . .

Flour sauce on flour puffs. Struggle food elevated 10/10
Never heard of that. Can you describe it?
Agreed, strawberry preserves are the best 👌
You should try garlic cheese grits, its very good. And i agree, you cant have just grits without things like, cheese, garlic, salt or black pepper, or butter. not to confuse with oca..lol.... Gr8 reviews! how the heck not @ 2million subscibers Blows my mind!
Hot sauce on those fried green tomatoes ❤
First
Yum! Fried Green Tomatoes! Although I like my fried green tomatoes crispier than those!😊❤
I'm a southerner born and raised and for some odd reason bbq is at the bottom of my list
Yummy 🤤
The two things I would add would be turnip greens, with vinegar on top, and pecan pie
Jessi's dress is matched to table cloth 😊
Where is this restaurant?! It looks soooo good!
Biscuits and gravy is my all time favorites but here in NJ very hard to find. Also love grits with lots of salt pepper and tons of butter.
I prefer raspberry
Try your fried green tomatoes with romalaude sauce. So much better. And I think you’ve tried a buttermilk pie but if you haven’t you should!
would love to know where they are, especially since everything looks perfect
The Loveless Cafe in Nashville
My grits have to have butter, salt and pepper and cheese..sometimes I'll use milk instead of water and it gives you a butter popcorn fragrance..I'm a sucker for some mac and cheese 😋
Try Korean fried chicken...breading is lighter and crispier than ours in the US...when done right
Also try Korean bbq,,,
Wow this is the cuisine my toddler needs to gain weight! ❤ Yum yum yum 🤤 hopefully I can find some dairy free recipes ( she's allergic to dairy &eggs)
Jess your top matches the table cloths!😂
Southern made food is the best food ever.

Shrimp and grits or fish and grits is delicious. Fried okra taste better with ketchup or hot sauce

I love apricot and honey🤤
Alessio was drunk off that banana 🍌 pudding 🍮 😂😂😂😂
2 items are always a must in the south..1. Drawstring pants 2. Antacids. 😂🤣😂
That's my favorite........which one?......yes, the ones on the list.
Fin.
Grits with butter & a dippy eggs
In My opinion: if you need Cream or ice-Cream to go with a dessert, IT means it’s just not good enough by itself, as everything is great with ice-cream. 😊
Rudy's BBQ has the best creamed corn!
And their recipe is posted online (so Google it) and give it a try! It's amazeballs! 😂
Next introduce Allesio to midnight Moon distillery in Gatlinburg Tennessee.
7:43 I don't like okra or bananas but everything else looks yummy
I love fried green tomatoes; those were some sad examples of them lol
Restaurant name? Location? Looks so yummy.
