on point! and just to clarify, the Freenight hubs are still identical to the ones sold before, only difference for the current stock is the new clutch itself. driver and axle are still the same. good vid Brant!
Thank you!
Thank you Brant, top info as always 👍
Thank you for being here man!!
Really love how in depth your videos and how you explain things keep it up 🤘
Thanks man!! I do my best
Thanks for that break down Brant! I seriously can't wait to get my hands on one of these!👍
I appreciate you Russell!!
Wow thanks for the video❤️
First of 23 video in a row about this hub
Yo what's up shaggy just want to let you know I got my new hub is absolutely amazing I find it so much easier to ride fakie because I can get so much lower and so much for the back since I don't have to pedal backwards anymore last night I went out in -24 and I went fake for 47 ft and I think that's the furthest I've ever gone I am progressing very fast thank you for the updates on the hub I really enjoy looking into it more. by the way you're one of the few UA-camrs I come back to watch
That’s so awesome to hear!! It completely changed the way I ride as well and I love it! Thanks for letting me know and thanks for being here
@@Brant_Moore no problem also are you okay with me calling you shaggy I always have and never asked if you were bugged by it.
Thanks Brant :)
Thank YOU for giving me the chance to make this and continue with what I've done!!
I don't know if anyone else would have done that, and I really really appreciate it
I see you gaining some subs recently! Almost at 15k
Very exciting! Videos like this really help
Now show us how to modify a 14mm Skyway to use the internals of the free knight hub. I would love a mag with a free-coaster!!
Great video, thank you Brant!
Hey thanks man! If you haven’t tried one yet, you have to! It really is awesome
@@Brant_Moore I actually have one on my HARO DMC 26 and love it. Was watching your video to see how to disassemble and it helped a lot
@@RLOsbornBMXFreestyle Hell yes man, I'm stoked to be able to help!
so what s the vedrict on the peddal pressure with these ones?
Great video. Will the BSD axle be stronger due to the smaller hole?
Yes
Ok, so theoretically, could you do a forwards crankflip while going fakie???? That’d be gas
I mean I’ve seen people with the BSD hubs do moonwalks or pedal forwards while riding fakie so yea you could do forward errr “reverse” crank flips?
I just got one and it doesn't always freecoast, sometimes it will act like a cassette. Can you give any advice or is there a brake in period? Thanks
Ive had my BSD revo hub for a month now and I cant figure out how to make it freecoast. It seem completely random when the hub decides to let me freecoast whenever I go to Fakie. No matter what i do, it just randomly engages on me😢
Hey Brant, I’ve been loving the videos on these hubs. In your opinion is there any reason to buy one of these over the other one? Or are they similar enough that it doesn’t make much of a difference? I’d love to get the revolution because I’m a fan of their brand and their riders and it comes with hubguards, but it’s obviously sold out by now. Free night as of right now has a new batch in stock and I’m not sure if I should wait for a chance to pick up a revolution or just pull the trigger on a free night hub. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and keep up the great work!
I have been on a prototype Freenight hub for almost two years now. A little bit before Brant got his I believe and mine is still running perfect. So in that regard I don't believe you would regret the purchase of the in stock Freenight hubs.
That being said the BSD looks a little more refined with respect to materials and the inclusion of hub guards due to them having more resources to produce the hubs.
Cannot confirm yet if the materials have changed on the internals since I got on my prototype but I do know Tal from Freenight was saying there were some changes on the new ones so they could be very similar material wise now.
Thomas pretty much hit it. I think you would be very happy with either and they should function very similarly
Mantap Kak

wassup duuude!
so i want to revo hub to click a little louder. I think it’s because it’s greasy on the inside...
is it a good idea to open it up and remove some grease. I’ve been running it for like two months now.
That’d be your call man. If they put it there it’s probably for a reason, so it’s up to you. I’m sure it would be louder without
i’m not trying to CLEAN IT OUT, noooo.
butt i understand what you mean.
thanks dude!
Let me know how it goes man. I’ve thought about doing the same because the planetary hub I rode didn’t have anything in it
I just received my revolution hub. For some reason the non drive side bearing is very loose in the hub shell. If I remove the driver the bearing and axle literally fall out. When it's all assembled and on the bike there is slight play in the rear hub. Is this ok/normal????
I would send BSD a polite email
@@Brant_Moore thank you for the quick reply! You are awesome!
My revolution driver tightens and lossens. It’s nice and free and the chain is loose and then a full crank around and it’s tight like the wheel is pulled all the way back and then goes back to loose after you keep pedaling. And that would usually happen if it was crooked but it’s definitely not crooked. What could be causing it?
That can happen if your front sprocket isn’t perfectly centered on the crank spindle, which can happen
So it may be pointless to ask this, since I saw the ad about this hub with Alex Donnachie, but I'll ask anyway.Pedal pressure is 200% out of the question with this hub for things like fullcabs, right?Since Alex was rolling fakie while moonwalk style pedaling forward?
Check out my previous videos on the free night planetary. Its not entirely out of the question and I honestly think that once enough people get on this hub, a technique for it will be figured out
That's the thing, cause with conical clutch and other pawl coasters,I figured the sweet spot and I can get em 9/10 because I know exactly where it engages for me to use pedal pressure but with a coaster like the freenight or the bsd, only engaging when rolling forward,I don't know how it would work for me.I've tried fullcabs with no pedal pressure and the closest I've come is 270 and a fart
It does make sense and I think we will see as more people get on these hubs
I just got the Bsd Revolution and it’s squeaking. Any reason you would know of? I’ve only road on it for about an hour, should I keep riding maybe and see if it breaks in more and the squeak goes away ?
Search "Planetary hub maintenance" and my video that tells you what to do will come up. Super easy fix
@@Brant_Moore NOW Im having one spot where the chain tightens and it’s harder to crank any ideas on that? Maybe too tight on the cone nuts?
That happens a lot on any setup and can be in the chain or sprocket as well. Chain alignment is also a factor
Thats so cool that you got that. Should help the way you ride with all of the stalls.
I was thinking Brant if you wanted a titanium axle in the BSD you could go see that guy that made you it and take the BSD axle with and get him to make you one for the BSD Revolution Hub 👍
Just not sure if he’d be willing to do it because it takes away from machining work for his business
@@Brant_Moore Ask him to do it on his break or give him some dolla for doing it
Haha I wish machining titanium was just that easy
Looks like the Bsd revolution is well-greased, whereas the Freenight hub is dry. I wonder why that is, if the internals are for the most part identical?
i’m sure it’s just because the bsd hasn’t been used and he’s been riding the free night for months
The free night didn’t come with grease in it like the BSD did so it is an interesting thought
When are you going to give us a test on the bike?
Well I got it laced last night so as soon as the weather permits!!
@@Brant_Moore I can't wait
Free Night needs to change the tooling for the internals to accommodate a female 17mm axle, so that it will eliminate the bent axle issues. With that being said the revolution has started and the planetary clutch can be re-tooled to make it fit a 17mm axle. Then RNC could make Ti axle Options. I spoke with the guys at FreeNight, but they were not ready for that just yet. I honestly think with the level of riding that is going on today, the 14mm axle needs to jump to female 17mm like the Odyssey Clutch freecoaster, and then it's Total domination at that point.
BSD Took that technology and made it street worthy 😎😎🔑
What’s your opinion on bsd having essentially rebranded an existing hub and marketed it as a game changing new design by them?
My opinion is that people should read the info BSD has put out. They openly say they have worked directly with Free night on it and give them credit where it’s due
@@Brant_Moore I had a read through the information on the website and I understand where your saying they do give credit but in my opinion it’s a very unique hub to copy, can essentially say every hub copies every hub but the basis of all bike hubs revolve around the paw design but this is a one of a kind one off design hub just rebrand rebranded? Also they say they had tested it for over a year but why are the retesting a product already in the market?
@@joshohha5312 They updated the internals between the OG freenight and BSD hubs coming out. The freenight was still new and not ridden by many pro riders yet as its a design everyone knew they would eventually be making for themselves. Its the same reason pivitol is still used by every single company out there even though macneil designed it and owns patent rights. The people at free night made something that is going to change freecoasters forever the same way macneil changed seat posts forever.
But what do they both sound like?
Tune in in 2 hours and you’ll find out!! :)
Brant. How’d you like to see video of the 1st cassette coaster. Ever. 2005
I mean...yea!!!
@@Brant_Moore will do I’ll dig up the files and send link once it’s up Footy of Shea Nyquist riding the hub we made and licensed to Haro in 2005 ... fun stuff
Yea man! He said something about that in a comment on here but I never expected you to comment too!!
Sooo sick, I’m really excited to see more
Found the videos on old PC...Uploading to my channel now.(still have to add thumb somehow) Happy to chat or send files. Whole Story is kinda crazy
Send me a message on Instagram man. We can chat there
Something you could add to videos to make better is to have a micrometer for measurements when showing two similar items .
That’s a really good point! I did just get one from Park Tool as well. Thank you!
Yeah ada sub Indonesia nya...
This is AvE for BMX!
Is that another channel on here?
@@Brant_Moore Yeah. He does tool teardowns on some of his videos. Great commentary and sage advice. He is very Canadian and quite witty. I am an older rider. Your content has helped me find the right size frame for my needs. Mostly wall rides, hang fives and manuals.
Great video but can you tell me hoe you remove the ratchet ring.
I don’t think the hub is made to have the ratchet ring taken out.
It appears from the replacements I’ve seen on eBay that the ratchet ring has an external r/h thread so assume special tool would be needed to locate in the ratchets so it could be unscrewed.
@@Brant_Moore apparently there is a ratchet ring removal tool that you clamp in a vice. it’s shaped the same as ratchet ring and you turn the wheel anti-clockwise to unscrew it.
Once I have the ring removed I can weld a tube to it with a brake disc adaptor bolted to it and screw it back in. Sounds a bit weird but I intend using two rear wheels as a the front wheels of a quad cycle I’m building that needs 14mm axles.
@bobbo9549 Sounds super interesting!
Send some pictures when you get it finished!
@@Brant_Moore I’ve got to improve my mig welding skills 1st. I seem to have the welding penetration sorted so it structurally sound but welding in a straight line is another matter 🙂
The revolution hub and the ezra have the same internals but the ezra engage when its in a fakie the revolutions just has diffrwnt disk
Yea and that different disk can’t be put into the Ezra, making it completely different.
@@Brant_Moore yeah
Hey brant I INVENTED a one of A Kind never seen before trick that takes a vet like you to do. THINK YOUR UP FOR A CHALLENGE?
Let’s hear it! No promises though, haha
@@Brant_Moore 🤝 it's a handle bar stall whip. So you would stall on a vert ramp couping with your handle bars and while vertical you would tail whip. Make sense ?
@@Brant_Moore what do you think?!😳
Honestly I’m having a hard time picturing what you mean
@@Brant_Moore imagine your going up like a 6ft vert quarter, and when your close to the top you plant your handle bars on the couping with a endo-like motion or however. Once your there you'll be looking straight at the deck and basically in a handstand. Then from there tail whip while keeping the stall.
my one hate with freecoasters right now is bad fitting driveside gaurds
Have you tried the g sport guard that goes on the outside of the frame?
@@Brant_Moore no. lol damnit. gonna check albes.. yup 14.95. Thanks man.
@@fallenhobbit6554 luckily the BSD hub has a good fitting driveside guard, the cone is designed to hold it in place with no extra spreading of the dropouts. Also there is a notch on the outside to fit into the dropouts which aligns the guard with your chain.
@@BSDBMX1991 i missed the notch. good point. that is my biggest beef with my cinema coaster. the gaurd spins.
and the subtitles in Spanish? I do not understand English
There are Spanish subtitles on the video. Turn on CC then press the wheel to change language

Strange that the clutch mechanismn is made of plastic
Not at all, the only function is to lift the pawls to engage the driver, there are almost no forces on the clutch.
@@BSDBMX1991 ah ok then,im defo getting one ! I think you have sold out already if im right.when will they be back in stock ?

could i have the free coaster? haha need a new rear hub since mines sucks and would love to try a free coaster lol
Shout out to Park Tool!

😭
I think the BSD Revolution freecoaster hub is the better one out the two
