I think swapping mclaren with type R is not bad.. we all know they are in different genre, supercar vs sport car (hot hatch). but there are more advantages of the civic type R than the mclaren.
advantages of civic type R:
1. easy to drive in town and out of town.
2. Don't worry about speed bumps.
3. can fit 5 people and spacious luggage.
4. the name Type R has more Pride than the usual mclaren.
5. more fuel efficient.
the advantages of the McLaren 765Lt:
1. the only reason you have a mclaren is because it's a mclaren. only supercars. ha ha ha ha
Exactly, idk if you know who john cena is but he stated what you just said pretty much. He has a lambo but he rather drive his typeR everyday cuz he can beat on it, still manual, drives great, and fits people/luggage

Another person who's out of touch with reality. Anyone who has the privilege of owning a McLaren would not in the faintest, most remote chance, be concerned with fuel economy.

Owning a FK8 and having taken delivery of a FL5 my feelings are mixed: one sees and feels the various upgrades, but the perception is one of respect for increased competency. My FK8, however, I love: the dashboard is more sportscar-like, the falling hood and the overall profile, slightly rising and less sedan-like, as well. One sees the hood scoop and the wing from the drivers seat which always gives some sense of drama. The 19 inch wheels on the FL5 do not quite fill the wheel-arches, and the compensating longer final drive compromises in-gear acceleration in 6th (maybe a run-in issue, I'll see). In comfort, the FK8 is the more civilized road-car.
I shall keep both for now as I would not be surprised if, over time, the FK8 were regarded as the more iconic car, despite its relative ubiquity.
All gears are the same - its the final drive going to a 3.8 that makes it slower - it's the accord manual final drive which is longer - you can change it back to the FK8 4.1 final drive if you want and regain the accel
The beauty of the FL5 is you have more room under the hood for a full frame turbo capable of over 1000hp
My FK8 has 640hp and a full frame turbo could get me to 800-850ish but the radiator spacing is tight. For a larger turbine you would have to push the radiator forward several inches which isn't ideal.
The FL5 however has more than enough spacing as is to support a very large turbo and not have the heat issues the FK8 does with the turbo so close to the radiator
Plus it's wider, longer with a vented hood right where you need to get the heat out.
I'll be picking one up for sure as my plans are to go 1000+hp with it.
Keep in mind the new turbo on the FL5 is smaller and will not make the top end the old one does. But a turbo change rectifies that 😂

@@Bbc418 I won't argue with you as you probably represent a majority view. But the aesthetic dispute should focus on the base cars: Hondas are never pretty, but the 2017 Civic was quite special, to put it mildly. The 2022 one is bland. Their respective Type R incarnations, however, I find 100% spot on (I say the same also about the FK2; again, the base-car is the debatable question). They execute the necessary performance-features perfectly in line with the base-car design. The FK 8 fenders had to be stuck-on, the FL 5 ones couldn't. Neither would the slim wing stands of the FL 5 have been thinkable on the FK 8, etc. So both statements can be true: the 2017 Civic is ugly and the Type R FK 8 is a beautiful performance derivative.
Good point , ppl are so caught up in the numbers and figures that most ppl won’t ever utilize driving a supercar on the road , and in many cases it might be dangerous

The smart man’s thinking money would ask why pay for an extra 300bhp -plus for something you rarely if ever use…. If you get caught on the road, is it really worth it.
You know markups are horrendously outrageous on the Type R when you need to be able to own a McLaren to be able to buy one.

Regarding the ride - even in comfort mode the dampers are adaptive, so the harder you drive it, the firmer they'll get. Cruise at mundane speeds and they will back off for more compliance - always firm, but less so.

In order to compare the new type R to the 765LT, first you must compare it to the old type R……..What? You are have as much fun in the hot hatch, because your using more of the performance, I suggest you try a 1980’s mini metro, you’ll have a hoot and save around £48k.
Blah this review was garbage comparing. It really how much you want to drive at your limits. Driving at your limit is the fun.
I'd have heaps more fun sitting still in the McLaren than I would going full send in the Civic Type R. What a ridiculous proposition pitting these two together in any kind of meaningful comparison. Anyone who can afford a McLaren would not consider getting a Type R, I promise you. They are driving Range Rovers for the ships and McLaren for the weekends, outliers not withstanding.
Traded a Sports car for a grocery getter that will get gapped by any other performance car.🤷🏻♂️ Have fun keeping up with soccer mom in their their TRD Camry😂
