  • Trailer Filled With Oranges Rolls Over on Freeway. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, what about 45,000lbs of oranges! The team took a break from the usual container rollovers to tackle this reefer trailer loaded with fruit. As if that doesn't sound tough enough, the passenger side wall ripped open after sliding on the guardrail, spilling thousands of pounds of oranges all across the freeway.
My dad and Alex tag teamed this job with the dynamic duo of rotators: Hulk (50ton rotator) and Big Flipper (75ton rotator). Together they used our 1' wide recovery straps to brace the front of the trailer and keep it together when uprighting. The plan worked well, and we were able to tow it all away in one shot after to our shop close by.
The cleanup itself was handled by CALTRANS, and boy are we lucky that job did not come to us. I'm not sure how long it took them to clean the mess and repair the guardrail, but hats off to them for the hard work!
Don't forget to head to www.pepestowla.com/shop after the video and grab your cool Pepe's swag to represent your favorite tow company!

You sure have this down and work so well together.
One year (WAY before either Alex's or Josh's time on the planet, most likely) it seemed as though there was a string of "produce-of-the-day" accidents in the greater Los Angeles area. One day, melons on the freeway. Another day, cabbages off a connector road and fell down onto the freeway. I imagine it took a few repeats to explain a Sig Alert due to cabbages.

I guess we give the guardrail points for keeping the truck on the road, though it looses some for tearing the trailer apart. We have a lot of curtain side trailers in the UK, luckily we seem to have less wrecks, but they really spill during the recovery when in does happen.
I guess oranges make a change from a some of your recoveries with toxic loads, etc.
