- Finding rock candy / sugar crystals for cake decorating can be a challenge! The good news is, they're super easy to make yourself at home. In this tutorial, I'll be showing you guys how to grow your own rock candy and how to use them to make a gorgeous geode cake! :)
The ratio of sugar to water for the thick sugar syrup is 3 parts sugar to 1 part water. In this video I used 3 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water :)

A question: can we re-use the remaining sugar syrup in the bowl after we have waited 2 weeks by placing a new steuere?
Thank you so much! And yes you can reuse the sugar syrup, however you will need to re-heat it and add more sugar to it (perhaps another 1/3rd of the original amount) to replace the sugar that was used to create the initial rock candy. Hope that makes sense :)

Where did you place your jars for the two weeks whilst waiting for the rock candy to grow? I also would like to know if the remaining syrup can be reused?

For Geode cakes should we just put sugar into the jar? It looks like that made more than the one with the sugar on the skewer?

Hi there! I have tried with liquid food colouring but I imagine it should be fine :)
Should we check the temperature of the sugar mixture before removing from heat?
You don't need to as long as all the sugar crystals are dissolved it will be fine :)

You're welcome! Yes you can reuse it, but you will need to heat it again and add another cup or so of sugar to it to replace the sugar that was used to create the crystals :)
Hi there, when making rock candy how long do stir the water and sugar mixture and do you let it boil and if so for how long?
Hi there! You just need to mix it until the sugar is completely dissolved - it doesn't need to boil :)

LOL! This is a common way people grow crystals and I have many times with success so definitely not lying :) perhaps you do not have enough crystals on your skewer when you first place it into the jar? If you let me know your exact process then maybe I can help you out :)
