- I've just received the new Firewire Mashup Surfboard from the coolest collaboration between two legends Rob Machado and Dan Mann.
The Firewire Mashup is supposed to work really well in weak waves and also provide great performance in good conditions.
I pre-ordered the Mashup in the beginning of this month and it just landed here in Rockaway Beach, New York. I'm really excited to share my first impression about Mashup with you.
My Height: 5’9” or 175.3 cm
My Weight: 165 lbs. or 75 kg

I think I just got lucky with the shipment and my pre-ordered board slipped through. LOL. I had low confidence after Firewire rep said that they may run out of stock boards due to high demand from the surf shops.

@@SkipperSurfReview You won't be disappointed! here is why: I got this board a week ago I am in my 40 back to shortboarding after 5 year on mid length and I was skeptic too. third session in and that is a brilliant board for smaller or bigger wave. It floats really well and you will take loads of waves. I jut had the best surf I had in years because the board is so easy to surf and does anything you want without any efforts at all. you can cruise along down the line, do turns cut backs or anything you like it just happens naturally. That board feels like it reads your mind

@@SkipperSurfReview Oh awesome! Yes it was a lil too much for me so I passed on it. The JS Sub Xero looked flatter to me and I liked it so much I bought one in PU and One in HYFI and prefer the epoxy version. Think you would love that board for your type of waves.
It's a grovler for a Socal/Norcal ripper, not an east coast surfer. It's a small wave board for us.

I think you will find it's a bit big, around 5'5 would be normal for your height. Still will be ok in winter with full suit though.
Too late lol. but you are totally right. I can't return it. I kinda need that extra volume and length to surf shitty waves out front otherwise the board will be useless. You do get the best performance out of the board when you dial the size though. It's a trade off .. more waves vs 12 o'clock turns :) Cheers!

Does your Mashup match the dimensions that were listed on the firewire website?
I just received the 5.4 Mashup and the dimensions and liters are not the same as what firewire has listed.
Hey!! Yes, it does. I just double checked it. What size is yours? My 5’8” matches perfectly. May be you can address that with Firewire and they will send you replacement or free fins😁
What was the difference in dimensions?

The 5’4” I received dimensions were: 19 9/16 x 2 7/16 @27.1 liters.
Been trying to reach firewire through email and phone, but no reply.
The width and the liters are what is slightly different. I feel like maybe I received a prior iteration. And not the final product.
I purchased the board directly from Firewire. They did package it well, however.

How would you compare the mashup to the dominator 2 or the Cymatic?
Hey Mike! I would say, Cymatic has a very specific sweet spot up front. You need to be more precise with your front foot landing. Cymatic can help to do more precise and sharper turns. The Mashup is more on a groveler type of board being more loose and fun!

They do! But you want to get full quad or better get Endorfins 5 fin set. ks-1
I’m anti tail pad too brah. I hate tail pads, they make boards look ugly!
