Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit was the biggest star of nu-metal, despite being so widely hated. Here's what I cover:
* How he used MTV's TRL, the VMAs, and the rest of the media
* His collabs with mainstream stars like Christina Augilera, Method Man, and other artists like Jonathan Davis of Korn (and the rumors of his hookup with Britney Spears)
* Their cover of "Faith," their Woodstock 99 performance and the video for "Break Stuff"
* His career as a film director: The Fanatic with John Travolta and The Longshots with Ice Cube
* Why recruiting Wes Borland, John Otto and Sam Rivers to Limp Bizkit was so important

people don't like Fred Durst because he killed Woodstock and caused a riot but you shit on bands like Rage Against the Machine for their political driven music!!!! let people know you're a right winger might lose that cool punk image though🤣
Hey Finn, you mentioned 100 gecs in your advice video, are you a fan?

Hate to state the obvious here, but Fred and the band were heavily influenced by Primus...Especially that first album...

Fred Durst has been trolling people for 20 years. He is the John Cena of Nu Metal.
LMAOOOO for real tho. He's an inspiration to anyone who receives massive hate. Gotta respect the fact that he hasnt k1lled himself after all these years.
I like him and his band a hell of a lot better than all the dreary self loathing nu metal around them. It's easy to enjoy dumb mosh music when it doesn't take itself seriously.
No. Cena is the Durst/Eminem of wrestling.
20 years? More like he trolled people for a couple of years. No one has given a crap about him for....almost 20 years.
Maybe he has been trolling people. Sort of like Daniel Bregoli the cash me outside zoomer. I mean, she makes more money than most people because she acted like a little shit. Genius? Luck? An example of the state of the world?
The dude chocolate starfish suit in 5:35 has a fun story. When LB came to Mexico to promote Chocolate Starfish, the local PR staff created a suit for the press conference. Fred Durst liked it so much he wanted it to appear on stage for the Mexico dates. He liked it on stage so much he wanted to buy the suit so it could appear throughout the whole european tour. The suit however was custom made and it only fit the mexican dude who was wearing it. So Fred Durst said, to hell with it, we’re taking the guy as well. So the mexican employee who wore the suit ended up touring with LB during the whole european tour.
Órale qué chingón, no me sabía esa historia
Hey, that’s awesome! I bet he had a hell of a good time on tour with them!

I manage a shoe store and Fred came in with his wife last year. I didn’t recognize him at first though. He was wearing a Limp Bizkit hoodie and I complimented it. That’s when he said “thanks. It’s my band!” And I was like... what?? I did a quick google search to see what he looked like currently and found out it was him. He was nice as heck the entire time. Most of my staff are metal heads/emo kids so we were listening heavier stuff compared to what the rest of the mall played. He complimented my staff and said he loved our alternative vibe. Really nice dude and we blasted LB the rest of the day haha
A shoe store playing anything other than AC... unthinkable in Germany.
Whats the name of the store? I’d love to check it out :D
I totally believe you. Chris Fronzak who is like the Deathcore Fred Durst is a nice guy too.

Dude, this crosses my mind daily. Your behavior might not officially exist, but you need this. If you don't have it then it impacts you. I'm living in your head and will continue until you die. You think it's one-sided, but you have to keep me in mind to try or succeed at making me keep you in mind. I won and will win going forward because I'm surrounded by people who have been so upset by another that they sold their souls for crumbs of justice. Fred has actually talked about how much he hated that his band attracted the “dude bro” crowd that bullied him in high school, but as you said, he banked on his parody of it all.
Limp bizkit has always hated that their parodies are biggest hits. I
That is actually incredibly sad

That aside Fred Dust is a great business man and producer which many people seem to fail to realize. He isn't a musician he isn't a singer but can put together music.
Some say the band should split and do solo work, well guess what idiots it happened plenty of times and their solo works were far worse then whatever LB ever put out, even the worst LB thing is platinum material compared to those.
Fred Durst once again produced LB albums and it shown very well that not only he picked talented enough musicians but also can squeeze the talent out of them since alone they can't utilize it, again evident from their solo works. While what Fred produced outside of LB was great.
He produced for people like Britney Spears they worked together which resulted into the rumor they fu ked or dated briefly same thing, since Britney anyway was dating lots of people that is close to her. Mind you not anyone can produce for such people tells you he was picked up for a good reason.
@@minmogrovingstrongandhealthy Wes's Black Light Burns is actually dope tho. I think it just certifies the fact that he's the number one musical talent in the band. But all the guys are talented in their own way.
Fred Durst is a genius. Got famous as hell, was everywhere, made enough money, and also connections. And PROBABLY engineered his own downfall so that he wouldn't have to deal with the fame-monster.
Guy is playing behind the scenes with a puppet you hate now. You loved that puppet when he wanted you to.
I suspect he wanted fame at one time but once he got there was smart enough to know that it was not a good way to live a regular life so torpedoed the whole thing with a smirk.
Great point, I bet you’re 100% right
I kinda agree with you at a certain point. However I'm not sure that he did it on purpose. I mean, if you look at one of his famous staples, he used to say "We ain't never gonna change ya'll" so I don't think he crashed LBs career nor engineered his own demise 100% conscious of what he was doing. My humble opinion is that once he got to the absolute tier top of mainstream music along side Eminem, Nsync, Britney, Christina, etc he was planning to stay there for a long time basically being himself and continue to pursue the path of success with Limp Bizkit (not changing, ad he always said). But 2 critical things happened. For once the music industry did change around the mid 2000s and also the fans of the band grew up and started to deviate a bit from LB after Wes departure. And also, he's just a human being and like all of us he makes good choices (that led him and the band to be one of the greatest bands in the whole planet) and bad choices (who eventually led them to their downfall in the mid 2000s). He went through a lot of shit after Wes left the band, on a personal side he was dealing with emotional issues of his own and it naturally reflected in the lyrics of the 2003 RMV album (just like it did in a different way on the previous albums when he was conquering the world and had that aggressive atitude). He was in a hard place emotionally in 2003 and also done with the music industry, so he took another path and put out an album that lacked that aggressiveness that characterized the band and fans loved the most! That paired with more than 2 years of changes in the world as planet since they were the absolute kings and also a huge amount of pressure on the business side to release another mega commercial success (album), set the stage for the beginning of the end as far as mainstream success. Still RMV went platinum and launched a couple more big LB international hits (nevertheless it was a shame Fred took out one song that could've been one of their biggest singles and surely it'd have helped that record to sell more, I'm talking about "Crack Addict" which was a testorene fully loaded track resembling the good old LB). I still listen Limp Bizkit every single day and I'm always searching for Fred Durst content for that nostalgic feeling of the last great era of music in general and I kept asking myself what would it be if LB and Fred Durst would've kept their success throughout the mid 2000s and beyond? That is something I'll have to guess for eternity xD But I do know that they had their time, when they were the biggest band in the world, they've conquered almost everything and then they gradually fade away like time does every single day. I don't think it was consciously or part of bigger plot or something like that, I think it was more due to poor choices taken back then. And like Fred says in Take A Look Around "Everything happens for a reason".
Also Finn, I'm a huge fan of your channel and I'm always watching your content. Congrats, you're doing a great work 👏 Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
@@Nu.Metal.Kid.99 When he was coming out naked on stage and acted like a crack addict it was all acting, he was all done with fame by then.
The comeback was weird still but he was welcomed back, then he vanished again.
He is a business man he doesn't need to jump around the stage and make an idiot out of himself anymore he realized it long ago.
He loved to go to Russia and Europe more then US and his shows were down to earth compared to before. He toured a little then stopped.
I wouldn't say he "engineered" his own downfall, but he knew that his time to shine would be limited, and exited gracefully without ruining his life.
He's such a solid dude. Genuinely humble and thankful for his success and honestly cares about his fans. Wish more celebs were like him

OK. I actually have some first hand experience with Fred Durst. I was a PA on 'The Education of Charlie Banks' which is the first movie Fred Durst directed. I didn't really have any one on one talks with him but I was around him very frequently for a month. All I can tell you is he was very quiet, very calm, never raised his voice and never even remotely acted like a rock star. Being around him most definitely changed my opinion of the guy.

Fred Durst with the backwards cap reminds me of an older version of Kevin from Ed, Edd, N Eddy.
Holy shit you’re right
Ed, Fred, N' Freddy!
A red cap with critics reminds me of MAGA.
Never thought of that
Or rather Kevin is made to be reminiscent of that 90s demographic of outdoor loving, metal banging skater/biker kids. Uncle was born in 80 and he grew up with wall the associated traits one could expect of a 90s teen.
Genuinely sitting here in cargo shorts waiting for DJ Lethal to Bring it on!!
I basically cannot watch anything to do with Limp Bizkit without being struck by what a massive stage presence Wes Borland is. Even without the crazy ass costumes, and his undeniable tallent, that dude just fills a whole stage with energy. He's this perpetual hyperactive background that just doesnt quit, and it somehow never looks contrived or borrowed, its just Wes being Wes.
Im almost 30. People my age like to pretend they didn't used to jam the hell out to these guys.
They were awesome
LOL I'm 38 boiler still one of my favorite songs
I thought he was pretty lame even at the time, I think people talk about him now because he was last true Rockstar frontman, and he embraced the pop stage with no shame, and gleefully crashed it. Unfortunately euphoria junkies embrace this guy because he tapped into a zeitgeist that hit high and fast. But he wasn't good, he wasn't innovative, he just made just the right amount of decisions to elevate himself, and than fucked himself by being kind of a douche. I know on paper he's your kind of wet dream (spotlight embracer, entrepreneur, self branding), but he bottomed out in nearly all those ventures, also at least bands like Korn didn't embrace any of these cheep shallow star getting moves, and flourished in spite of it, and continue to this day
I'm about the same age, and I've always thought Limp Bizkit was awful, but I was the weird kid.
THIS. I still pump out my way or rollin when I'm drunk just to sleaze it up a bit. No regrets.

He wasn't taking a shot at Anthony Fantano though.
I actually think Limp Bizkit wrote some fuckin kick ass songs ! Never really understood the hate.
There first album is great
I think the hate was jealousy towards Fred for slaying all those honeys and some of the lyrics being cringe. Overall, they’re a great band tho
He just hit a really perfect time in the music industry. Grunge was dying pop princesses were aging out and the youngsters were looking for something new to latch on to.
Unpopular opinion: Limp Bizkit is an extremely talented band with great musicianship. Step away from "Break Stuff" and "Rollin" and get into some of their other tracks. They have amazing drums and bass, and their guitar is very unique. They can hold a groove, and the drum accents and intricate baselines are really impressive.
Sure, Fred Durst is a douche, but he's a great frontman. People shouldn't piss on Limp Bizkit just because it's popular and they don't like the singer.
Once upon a time I could not listen to koRn simply because of JD. Then Limp got me into them and I got them right away. They try to do something different every time and I fucking love them for it.
Limp Bizkit, as you said, has magnificent albums I can listen to over and over again without a hitch. They are for my generation what for others would be The Doors or Deep Purple. Nu Metal was our thing, and Limp Bizkit was at the forefront more often than not along with Korn.
Limp bizkit is one of the best bands to exist but somehow it went from literally everyone loving the band to one day suddenly all I hear is no one likes them. Seemed weird to me. Just like nickelback was played at every bar everyone loves nhi nickelback then outta nowhere somehow it became everyone hates them. Weird bands you know were loved by many history got rewrote to they suckes no one like them. Strange they were number 1 on trl and top billboard artists
Break stuff and rolling are amazing though
Limp Bizkit just became the thing that was cool to hate, prob cuz they blew up so quickly.
We should talk about Wes Borland too honestly
For real!
So many metalcore bands who are going more nu-metal owe a lot to Wes. They all pretty much play Bizkit riffs but with a bit more of a djent vibe.
Yup everyone unerminds wes
Can you mention some of those bands? I miss nu metal and i love djent.
@@EingefrorenesEisen same here man.
As a 90s kid, I never thought of Fred Durst as being talentless or the least talented member of Limp Bizkit.
Surely Borland, Rivers, Otto, and Lethal deserve the credit in what they do best, which is playing their respective instruments and work together to create the "Limp Bizkit sound" but Fred is a crucial part of it too. LB wouldn't be LB without him.
To all that say that Fred can't sing, well, he is no opera singer of course. I don't think he has the technical skills to be able to sing majestically and angelically like Andrea Bocelli (he can prove me wrong on this anytime) but the same can be said to pretty much all other bands' vocalists out there, including the most well-known ones you can think of.
His singing, rapping, and screaming are pretty darn good to me. I always like his voice. It fits LB perfectly just like Jonathan Davis is the perfect voice for Korn.
I can honestly name other bands whose singers are even less talented than Fred when it comes to singing. Their singing skills are so underwhelming to me but they're still successful and even considered legendary because rock, punk, metal, and pop music in general aren't always about showing off technical perfection. Personal creativity and expressions are what make those genres what they are and people who listen to those type of music love them because of it.
And talking about talents, other than singing and sharp business instinct, Fred Durst is a great, charismatic frontman who knows very well how to work a crowd and make his band's shows truly fun and unforgettable experiences, and I can say this because I've seen numerous times just because someone can sing well doesn't mean they can then manage to captivate their audience and as a result, even though their performance is actually good technically speaking, the atmosphere of the show is almost dull the entire time.
So to all who still insist that LB is terrible and their frontman Fred Durst cannot sing - can you yourself sing, rap, and perform better than him if you were currently in a band?, and would your band be able to sell 40 million copies of albums like LB did?.
I haven't watched the video yet but I got nothing but respect for Fred Durst. He gets tons of hate but has done his own thing and held his head high. The music is super nostalgic and everyone from the time knows it. Probably one of the biggest bands to come out of Nu Metal.
The video is bullshit but yeah Fred Durst is a good business man and producer, not a musician nor a singer, he knows how to put together a gig and still let some freedom flow from each band member.
Met Fred before they broke in the late 90's, he was a cool guy.
@Pretty fly for a WiFi They look pretty cool honestly... unless you are on gang shit...
Met him in 2014 as a teen he was just so nice and friendly
Pretty fly for a WiFi totally ! I met him randomly as he was just enjoying some free time before a show in Zurich. He could’ve just said he hadn’t time to chat but he surely didn’t
I skated with him at Kona in like '01. He was a really nice dude when I met him.
I played some Xbox with Fred back in the mid 2000s. He showed me how to unlock his character in a wrestling game so that was lit.
I love the old school Limp Bizkit. Their first album "Three Dollar Bill Ya'll" is a kickass album and it's one of my favorite albums in the Nu metal scene. LB was very popular back in the day for a reason, just look at their live concerts in the late 90's, Fred Durst knows how to hype up the crowd and that's the job of a good frontman. Let the rest of the band do the musicianship.
They wrote 9 out of the 13 songs on 3dby in less than 2 weeks.
@@american_alien_1583 That is super impressive, because those songs sound like they were cooking for a long time tbh.
That first record was the only one worth anything.
Agree
The first Album is fuckin good I'll admit..but the rest is pretty much Garbage.
I love Limp Bizkit, always have and always will. Iconic band. PERIOD.
When Fred Durst came to Russia for his promotion in 2015, he gave several interviews and was on a local late show. And to my surprise, he made the impression of a modest, gallant person who, among other things, showed his interest in culture and even knew the background. This is the last thing you expect from someone who fucked up woodstock99. He is the reason why it is very important to separate personality and creative image😩
It's 2020 and people still pretend to not like LB.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED DURST!
Damn he really uploaded on his birthday. Nice!
People can disrespect Fred Durst & LB all they want, but they had that period of time on lock. Listen to the musicians in the band too, all of them can play their a-double snakes off.
Go to a Limp concert next time you can, you will have fun & the music is still hard live.
Great vid Finn 🤙🏾
Going to a LB concert is on my bucket list. I'd love to take a 7 string guitar to Wes Borland and have him sign it. Tell him how big of an influence he was in making me play 7 string guitars. The only other guitarists beside him that made me interested in extended range guitars are mostly from tech death and prog metal bands, and Wes is the odd one out of the list but that doesn't make him any less of a musician than the others.
People who are adamant about hating on Bizkit can keep doing so, I'm not here to argue with them because more than likely, you're not gonna change your mind. But I think it's unfair to the guys at Limp Bizkit if your hate for Durst's character blinds you from the fact that they were all more than capable musicians. Even Fred Durst. There are some hidden gem tracks of theirs where his lyrics are a little more serious and those tracks are great. Their more popular songs where Fred really played up that obnoxious character are the only ones most people who hate them seem to know and that's all they judge them on.
K G Bailey i saw limp Bizkit live when they played at a festival I was going too. At first, i put their songs on the playlist as a joke with me and my friends, but I always thought it would be fun to watch them even if I didn’t take their music seriously. But their concert was seriously amazing and I’ve been a fan ever since! Good luck, hope you get a chance to catch them live!
Sam Rivers and John Otto are such a tight rhythm section it’s absurd
@@johnmarcdegaard6589 This is an underrated comment. I mean John Otto is so wildly overlooked its absurd.
John Marc Degaard for real just listen to "Stuck" on their debut 3 dollar bill yall. Rhythm slaps ass
oh and also. Limp Bizkit actually got a few great songs. I would even call them deep, from both lyrical and musical standpoint. Re-arranged is one of them, I always have chills on that moment where Wes starts playing acoustic
Met Durst and the band during Warsaw Orange Festival. Worked as a technician onstage. They ordered like 40 beers, haven't drank any of them, just put away them into fridge to chill.
During festival he was the only one person that went off stage and sang duets with fans, also they stayed until end of the night and gave away all of the beer they were chilling in the fridge to the stage crew. Also he wasn't acting like a superstar backstage, just like your typical "bro" from the hood. They (limp bizkit) did not drink at all though. They were totally sober.
I look at him in pro wrestling terms. He’s a perfect heel
They're music still sounds better than the mainstream crap that gets released today, gosh I miss this music being mainstream
I see people comment all the time saying good music still exist you just gotta search for it. I really don't think that's true
@1 2 I said good music. Not underground shit no one's heard of
@@grapeboi9256 I mean underground shit no one's heard of can be pretty good
@@enjoyerofsilence Spotify algorithms are based off what you listen too just listen too better music man😊😊
Limp Bizkit is absolutely my favorite band of all time. Limp Bizkit was a perfect name for the band it works so well. they have such a unique sound and they're still out touring hopefully a new album comes. and people have been doing a lot of reaction videos of them lately and not one bad thing to say about the band this form of music is still more relevant than anything new being put out today.
I met and hung out with Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit after a show, before they made it big. The bill was Powerman 5000, Limp Bizkit, and Primus was the headliner. I was with a friend who knew Fred and after Bizkit’s set we dipped out. Fred met us in the back by the tour buses. He hung out and talked to us for over an hour outside. This was in November and it was cold out. Fred was cool and down to earth. Really nice guy. I was into Bizkit before that, but after that, I was a fan for life.
Fred Durst the man and Fred Durst the musician seem like very different people.
Fred, the man actually seems to know and acknowledge that he is a deeply insecure, lifelong bullied person, struggling with anxiety and trying to make it through the day, but channeling it into his music in ways that either seem like deflecting or “acknowledging” it in just the most bizarre ways.
4D chess? Probably not, but way more calculated and deliberate than most people probably realize or want to give him credit for.
It’s more of becoming confident and being cocky about yourself. That’s what most people don’t understand about the song nookie. It’s a break up song about how a guy acts when he’s been really hurt but doesn’t want to show his pain. I did it all for the nookie is a line that reflects what a guy usually says about his ex to try to hurt her feelings as much as she did him. People really don’t understand his lyrics sometimes.
I think he's much smarter than what people give him credit for. His onstage persona is an act, which worked well for him. Unfortunately his intentions weren't always well received. His music was meant to be a rallying cry of sorts for people that were bullied like himself, but it was often taken up by jocks, and he got a reputation as a bully. I do hear he is much nicer in person than the way he portrays himself in his music.
A Del Taco ad played just after you said “Blood Fart”
drewbee86 😂😂😂😂😂
After he listed off those names I got "hey google play my whales mating playlist"
haha.. I got an ad about drop shipping
lol
lol I got a camping ad. then the next ad was the complete Tom Macdonald song "people so stupid".
I got speeding tickets listening to these CDs back in the day. These guys were awesome!
😂
He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. I used to work for this venue in AZ that LP headlined. This dude walked all around the lower concourse high fiving and fist bumping all employees and thanking us. I was a fan of the band but became a fan of him after that.
When you've said Limp Bizkit, UA-cam's close captions wrote Lint Biscuit lol.
JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA 💯
Well, it was a close caption🤷🏻♂️
Hehehehe. . .ew.
Lint Biscuit sounds cooler
Beast Merc lint biscuit sounds like a parody/cover band of limp bizkit 😂
I listened to 3 Dollar Bill Y’all the other day after like 2 decades. Shit still bangs.
ok.... im going to play that on my way home. I might live to regret this
Metal Novak hey man, just MELLOW OUT!!! (You’ll know when it happens)
Looking forward to this, I know I'll be stuck in traffic for an hour. 3 dollar bill yall from start to finish!

13:03: You say Fred Durst is not a great musician himself but in terms of singing he can really do it. I've seen Limp Bizkit live five times between 2011 and 2016 and unlike some singers he really can hit all the notes he's supposed to live. I've seen videos of Blink 182 live at their peak and the same cannot be said for Tom DeLonge.
Another thing that i think is worth mentioning is that getting the right connections and befriending the right people is everything in showbiz. I recall reading somewhere that Durst used to be kind of mediocre/average tattoo artist in Jacksonville, but managed to get Jonathan Davis and Korn to come in and get some ink from him. In-between doing so, he befriended dudes from Korn, and gave Davis LB's demo-tape. JD liked it, and helped Durst and the rest of Limp Bizkit to be heard, and later included them into their Family Values tour.
I don't really care what the music snobs think, I have loved Limp Bizkit since I was 12 and still do to this day. I think you did a really good job explaining why, aside from Nu-Metal music, the band and Fred himself were so successful - they didn't take themselves seriously, there was an intelligence to what they were doing and knew how to fit in with the pop culture at the time.
Agreed, limp bizkit gets the blood pumping, and has been the craziest mosh pit I've ever been apart of👍
@NESHMETAL r/angrykidsonyoutube
@@IlBalivoDiUzhitz he missed the point that its her opinion, and the people hating what she likes is also their opinion. To get upset about her opinion is equally the same as her not liking other people's opinions. So its two sides of the same coin and nesh doesnt even know that.
Did I say you were a snob if you didn't like Limp Bizkit? No I didn't, I said I don't care what music snobs think. And you sir smell suspiciously like a music snob. Some advice though, I wouldn't go round calling people dumb when you spend your day leaving fallacious comments on UA-cam, it's a tad hypocritical.
People who go out of their way to make fun of others for liking a particular band or genre because they feel their taste is superior, despite it all coming down to personal preference. Sound familiar?
I wish he named the band “Blood Fart.”
me too, me too :)
especially his hat is red so...,,,,
I would of seconded that name at voting time
Ooohoohoo good one
i wish he would beat up the toughest guy in the hardcore scene having a cam with him to prove his my generation song with being absolute bad ass
Never thought I would have my eyes open to Fred Durst being a great business man. Thanks for doing what you do!
Was 24 when I went to Woodstock 99. Was part of the crowd looting and breaking shit. I broke my right finger that night. Wrapped it up and went to work the next day lol
*bows before Mike the Mechanic*
You sir, deserve a cold beer.
Dope
Ladies and gentlemen.... We got him
I just noticed something, Fred Durst was born the day after my dad was born. To think my dad could have been the vocalist of a nu metal band. 🤣
How do you know he wasn't?
My dad was born a day before King Diamond, I’d love to see him in King’s get up 😂
I have never understood the hatred against Limp Bizkit. I just enjoyed their music and still do.
people with low self esteem are offended by fred dursts success and confidence cause he was popular and bangin hot chicks, then the pretentious elitists tried to define themselves by hating LB and listening to unknown underground bands no one gives a fuck about
I had a hate on for them as a teenager because i was an up and coming metal purist however at this point i find limp bizkit amusing and charming. Rollin' makes me laugh because it reminds me of the Undertaker riding into the ring on a motorcycle.
Maybe people that hate Limp bizkit also hate Crazy town. I enjoy both.
It’s very simple. When a band makes shitty music people with working eardrums are going to hate it.
Same reason when I was like 11 y/o I went into a fast food restaurants bathroom and saw "Guns and Roses Sucks! Metallica Rules!" scribed into the bathroom stale. Why girls in high school hate the pretty girl who gets all the attention. Etc.
I mean I hate The Grateful Dead/The Who/Dave Matthews Band/etc but if you want to listen to them then I'm not gonna go out of my way to think of reasons why they're lame.
Yeah it's basically elitist mentality mixed with insecurity. Someone who liked Limp Bizkit pee'd in their Cheerios and now they hate the band for 112 reasons.
Really insightful analysis, Finn, and it makes sense. I finally started listening to LB just this past week and I LOVE their music. (The Borland riffs, the Otto drumming, the heaviness, combined with rap. What a combo!). I was one of those out-of-touch people who happily missed out on the nu metal scene when it was current. I was still focused on U2, The Police, Zep, The Who, STP, RHCP, Bob Marley, Thievery Corporation, etc. I find LB fascinating and I now think it's due in part to what you pointed out about them.
ive actually started listening to limp again. and diggin the newer stuff i never heard
Fans grew out LB fast it seemed, then pretended they never liked him lol.
You either love him or hate him or secretly like him
I always liked his music since his first album and still do
I agree !!! And I admit it, I loved it back in highschool and I now I’m coming out as a fan now as an almost full 20 yrs later lol
Lol. 3 Dollar Bill Ya'll came out when I was 16, and my friends and I wore that one out. Their second album came out when I was 18, and we played that one even more (family values tour '98 is STILL one of the craziest shows I've ever been to). THEN Chocolate Starfish came out and I dropped LB altogether. Have not listened to them in like 20 years (fuck I'm getting old), and honestly don't care to. Loved them back then, but my musical tastes have changed significantly. I won't deny loving LB once upon a time, but now? Eh.
True. Limp Bizkit could do no wrong 20 years ago. Now, people want to act like they were the worst thing to ever happened to music.
Limp Bizkit had WAY too many bangers and it's almost illegal how HARD they went
Fred Durst is such an underrated person.
Funnily enough, I learned about Limp Bizkit while waiting for the school bus in 6th grade. There was a girl in 7th grade named Kristen whom I'd always overhear music through her headphones - asked her what she was listening to, and the rest is history.
“If you hated Fred Durst, the late 90’s and early 2000’s were not a good time for you.” Yep - you summarized my college years in a nutshell.
I pretended like I hated him from everything I’d heard about him. I know poser shit.
But then I started listening to limp bizkit and I discovered I really liked it. I play limp bizkit very time I’m in the gym now. Limp Bizkit is a good band and no they’re not for everyone but they have their strengths and I like them
Eh... there was so much else going on that I didn’t notice. I mean, pop punk, indie and emo were everywhere too. The hardcore scene was strong in my area at the time too. It really seemed like a time when the everything was happening all at once. Warp tour and a bunch of other festivals were happening. New labels were everywhere. I thought it was a great time.
Actually... even a lot of the biggest movies were stupid back then. ...but the indie scene was getting pretty cool.
It’s Wes. He’s the ingredient. The reason. Why it’s so cool. Do u see his costumes? Watch Woodstock. Nuff said. He gets me so hype with his air skateboarding jumps
My buddies and I met Fred and DJ Lethal at Warped Tour 97’ while watching Sugar Ray, haha. This was about 15 minutes before they blew up. Couldn’t have been nicer folks!
Fred likes covering 80s pop songs, specifically. They got big in the beginning because in addition to the "Faith" cover, they covered "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul (which was novel back then because 80s nostalgia hadn't kicked in yet). They also do their own version of "Thieves" by Ministry which came out in '89 (I heard Primus cover it first opening for Rush in '91). Even on their new album "Don't Change" is an INXS cover (1983?) It's the nostalgia factor. DJ's will often throw classic tracks into a set to get a crowd hype (watch in 20 years when some 45yo drops Skrillex "Scary Monsters" at a wedding).
That Tom Hardy clip: "You ripped somebody's head off?..." I see what you did there, Finn 😄
Well spotted 🤣👊🏻
Ha! I didn't catch it
ITS JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS !!
The Ultimate Chad but one of the best nu metal bands. The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) is underrated
Yes, but after that it jsut didnt hit the real "snare" any more.
The Priest is my favorite LB song
Very true
The Unquestionable Truth Pt. 1 is their serious and most heaviest record to date.
Best album musically
I was 11 or so when I found limp bizkit. I Limped with the Bizkit for a few years and absolutely loved it. I got older and forgot about them basically and thought back in shame and figured I’d never tell anybody I was ever a fan lol. I recently listened again as an adult and a musician and realized it’s actually really good musically. And as much of a meme Fred durst is, I actually really really like him. I’m coming out as a Bizkit fan and I’m proud. Lol
My Dad always found him funny. Seeing as he wasnt much younger than him but acted like a teenage boy for success with his sons loving his work. I guess he just respected his hussel
Another solid mini-doc from Finn, as we've grown accustomed to.
That guy simply knows how shit works
Yeah man, he really do be spoiling us with all of this quality content.
*THE MAN THAT DID IT ALL FOR THE NOOKIE...*
I never thought a video about Fred Durst would have such excellent commentary and analysis
You have such good insight. Thank you
as an evolutionary biology student, this video is 100% legit
Premium stuff! Made my day
@Punk Shark so sorry mate
I agree that Fred wasn't the most musically gifted IN THE BAND, but he had all of the tools he needed to sound interesting in Nu Metal:
1. Rapping
2. Melodic singing
3. Screams
I love limp bizkit and im proud of it
As always, very informative, esp. as I really liked LB back in '98-'00. Love this video for all the analysis Finn put into the topic!
The universal bro that exists everywhere. I loved that
Behind nearly every LB hater is a guy who would be bobbing his head when that sick LB beat comes on
People don't hate LB. They hate Fred.
@@currychips Yeah, Durst trolled away every last ounce of LB's reputation. Love the dudes on stage behind him.
I liked them better than Linkin Park. Bizkit blew up first and got so big they opened up the door for bands like P.O.D., Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Staind and other Nu Metal bands to ride the wave. Once they were the biggest thing out MTV went looking for similar bands who looked like and sounded like them. When Linkin Park first hit absolutely everyone compared them to Limp Bizkit
Curry Chips YES!!! Always liked the drummer and bass player. Wes is overrated but I dig his riff style but CANT STAND Fred’s voice, style or really anything about him.
Brilliant analysis
I absolutely love Limp Bizkit music, still listen to them every day, especially when in the gym 💪
I was thinking "Man, I'm gonna post 'Don't hate the player, hate the game'. That sums up Fred Durst perfectly". But then you said it. So now I'm posting this.
Your perspective is always so on point man, big ups from South Africa!
